Synching audio/video malfunction

When I synch audio/video I get either a file with audio only or a graphic representing a compound clip.  Anyone have any thoughts?
It would be great if I could choose two clips and let FCP X synch them with a click, but that's not my experience at all...

I am sorry to hear about your troubles. It seems clear that you have issues with your setup, and before you blame FCP X for it it is worth figuring out what is wrong. Otherwise you may end up spending money for nothing.
To begin with: which model, how much ram, os version, fcp x version? Which hard drive and how is it connected to your mac? How much free space in the system drive?
You say "practically nothing works properly for me". Your problems are real, but you probably know that FCP X works extremely well for a lot of people. No two setups are equal, and that can make troubleshooting hard. But we have a great community of people here that can help!
Please give us the information above.
Also, I suggest you try out FCP X running from a new user account. If it works well there, as it might, this will suggest that some settings in your own user account are involved in the problem.

  • Synching audio/video across AirPlay & other devices

I have a AppleTV-equipped television ("TV") as well as a separate audio system that uses a MacMini as a dedicated processor ("Sound System").  The Sound System has a separate DAC, amplifier, etc. as well as an Airport Express for streaming audio.
My goal:  watch Internet content (audio and video) on the TV while also hearing the audio through my Sound System.
My options:  (1) use the MacMini to play the audio content directly through the Sound System while at the same time beaming the audio/video from the MacMini to the TV via AirPlay/AppleTV; or (2) use a separate Mac device (e.g. my iPhone, MacBook, etc.) to beam audio/video to the TV via Airplay while at the same time streaming the audio to the Sound System via the Airport Express.
The problem:  nothing works, even using a third-party app that allows streaming to multiple devices (e.g. Porthole or Airfoil) because of the audio and visual delays with Airplay/Apple TV.  Thus, even using Airfoil to sync the audio between the TV and Sound System (which it was able to achieve), I'm still left with the video being out of sync.
Any good suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Vazandrew, your solution works to send video to my TV and audio to my Sound System (via AirPlay setting on Apple TV), but it does not allow me to play the audio on my Sound System and TV simultaneously, which is what I'd like to do.

  • Using Markers to Synch Audio & Video?

    Hi,
I am new to GB. I have been using FCP to work on the audio. I went to a mac store event about podcasting and how you can use GB as a scoring tool.
I'm using GarageB to do the audio on my reel but having a few problems ...
My situation is that I have a point in one song that I would like to precisely cue up to a point in the video. I can't seem to find any marker tool under the editor window to add a marker to where my playhead is in the audio track.
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

Actually I have a video that I want to add audio to. I could find the marker button for the video track but nothing for the audio tracks. Say I have video of a shuttle launching and I want to cue my music track to where it builds in intensity with the liftoff. I would mark the liftoff on the video but can find no may to mark the music track with the swell. What I ended up doing was just to split the audio tracks as an ad hoc marker and line them up with the marker on the video. Once in synch, I reunited the tracks. Any easier way?

  • InstantOn DVD - Audio out of Synch with Video

    Hi
I have a MegaPC 865 Pro.  I am having problems with the InstantOn DVD Player.  The Audio is out of synch with the video. (the Audio is slower than the Video).  It happens on both analog and digital spdif out modes.
    CPU: Celeron 2.66
    RAM: 1G
    Optical Drive: LG GSA-4081B
    HDD: 40G Seagate
Audio and Video are the inbuilt ones that came with the MegaPC 865.
In Windows XP Media centre, it works fine (the audio/video synch works fine, the 5.1/7.1 audio mix mode has problems, but thats a different topic!!)
Can anyone offer any suggestions??  Thank you.

  • Vado audio out of synch with video when I transfer it out of Vado Central

Vado audio out of synch with video when I transfer it out of Vado Centralk I have a very important video I took that runs fine in Vado Central. However, when I try transferring it anywhere else (Facebook, Photobucket, iMovie) the audio speeds up and makes my son sound like a chipmunk.
My computer is a MacBook OS 0.5.8, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 processor, 2GB memory, which should meet the system requirements.
I've been going back and forth with customer-no-service and their last suggestion was that there's nothing wrong with the camera or Vado Central and that Facebook, Photobucket and iMovie must all be independently having the exact same problem
I'm very frustrated and unhappy. This camera is only 2 months old, but it's too late for me to return it and right now it's worthless to me. Worst of all, my very important video is ruined. Anybody have any suggestions

Yes, it sounds the same (too fast) no matter what computer we try it from. I've tried burning a DVD every way I can think of and when we try to play it on our DVD player we still have chipmunk audio.
I am BEYOND frustrated with Vado's customer-no-service. They keep insisting that since it will play in Vado Central I don't have a problem. I bought this camera so that I could share video with my family that's across the country. What am I supposed to do now, mail them the camera?! It's absurd!

  • Audio/video synch issues

    Hi-
I *Just* got a new Mac Pro last night and installed FCS with FCP 7.  Updated everything.
I captured NTSC Dv video in ns 48K from my Sony HVR-m25U via firewire. The audio/video are a little out of synch.
It's been a few years since I've upgraded FCP.  My last version was 5.1.  Is there soemthing in preferences I should or should NOT check?  I vaguely remember this issue from years ago but can't remember what it was.
Also, I currently only have 3gb of the installed memory int eh amchine.  16 gb are arriving on Wednesday.  Could this be a problem?
    thanks!!

    Thanks for clarifying!
I am monitoring the audio through Bose speakers that are connected to the audio output of the compute
If you go to the menu View > Audio Playback, what is selected?
"Default"  Audio follows video is grayed out.

  • Solution to Audio-Video out-of-sync

For a good 3 full weeks by using videora to convert files, i've realised that it has been giving me such non-synching rate between the audio and its video (try scrolling to the later part of the movie, viewing from the ipod)
Trying to solve the problems, from my research of frame rates in wikipedia to reconverting thouroughly again but to no avail until i realised this simple method reason why.
I have been using Videora with using its "input" frame rate - do not use that - it is not reliable - i am presuming that it uses a same number of frame rates for all data conversion which is why the difference in audio-video differences. Solution is simple.
    1. Just right click on any .avi files
    2. Check their frame rate.
    3. Input the exact number for your videora presets. (do save a number of presets eg. 23 fps (frames per second),
25 fps and 29 fps - you'll find them useful when you see their respective frame rates to match your respective profiles.
Since then, i have no problems with the out-of-sync syndrome from videora, enjoy.
Other problems like videora doesn't convert .mov files,
you'll just have to download the latest itunes and use its "convert selection" option in there.

I have made slight progress in my problem, but still have not fixed it. I have imported my footage through IMovie and everything is IN sync, if i move that same footage to final cut pro, everything is still in sync. However, capturing on final cut pro yields different results because everything captured on FCP is out of sync. So i know that my problem is a setting with the capture process having to do with final cut pro, Please help because i have so much work to do!

  • Netflix Audio/Video Out of Sync

My new AppleTV arrived today (yay!) and I quickly set-up and configured it. While generally impressed I'm observing that the audio and video for Netflix streaming are not synching up properly. I've got the ATV hardwired to my network and am not connecting via wireless.
I have both the HDMI and optical cables plugged in I've tried audio over both interfaces and with the ATV setting for "Digital Out" set to on and off and all variations have the same synch issue.
I've tested the same show with the Netflix app on my iPhone (over wifi) and using the OSX Silverlight player (hardwired) which both synch the audio/video properly.
Anyone else experiencing this? Did you find a solution?

I haven't seen any audio sync issues but I would like to drop a suggestion for those affected by this. I believe most televisions now now have a setting to compensate for this. (Well at least I know my Vizio 37" does.) My television has a setting (unique for each input) called lip sync and it's for correcting exactly this issue. Initially it's a feature for correcting out of sync problems between the television and satellite receivers which is actually a common problem. Most modern televisions should have a similar feature for fixing audio sync features. Doesn't hurt to dive into your televisions settings to see if you can correct your audio sync issue.

  • How can I display & split the audio & video from the same digitized clip?

I digitized a scene into iMovie that I edited on a professional system which I don't have access to anymore. The whole scene is 1 clip. Now I see a few tweaks that I want to make, so I was hoping to do them in iMovie.
I want to "pull up" the audio in one section - meaning I want to take cut about 20 frames of audio from the end of a shot, and then move all the other audio up to fill the hole. To compensate for the missing 20 frames, I'll cut video off the head of the next shot. Some call this prelapping. Some call it an L-cut. Some call it asymmetrical trimming. Either way, I can't figure out how to do it in iMovie.
My clip appears in the timeline as one track - a single track that contains the video and 2 audio tracks. How can I display the audio that's tied to the video on its own track? Then I think I could split audio & video wherever I wanted and trim things up - but I can't figure out how to do it.
Am I asking too much of this software?
BTW, I never see the option to "Split audio clip at playhead". I'm not displaying clip volume or waveforms. Choosing to display waveforms doesn't show me anything. Maybe iMovie thinks I'd only want to see waveforms of audio that isn't tied to my video-and-audio clips?
Thanks in advance for any help...

    Jordon,
"Am I asking too much of this software?"
    No, you're not.
You first want to select your clip(s) and choose Advanced>Extract Audio.
This will copy the audio from the video clip and place it on one of the two separate audio tracks while lowering the audio level to zero in the original video track.
You can now edit and move the audio independently of the video.
With the audio clip selected, you'll find you now have access to Edit>Split Selected Audio Clip at Playhead.

  • IDVD 08 audio/video sync drift toward end of DVD movie - fix/workaround?

Anyone know how I can fix this issue? It's driving me crazy.
I've just spent a few evenings in iMovie 08, editing together the video of my son's birth. All looked & amazingly good in iMovie. The "Large" .m4v file output by iMovie - Shared with the Media Browser - plays perfectly in Quicktime too.
However, after adding that shared movie to iDVD 08, and burning a DVD, I noticed that the audio sync drifts toward the end of the Movie when plated back. At the start of the DVD all seems well, but by the end of the ~1hr 20 minute movie the audio is unbearably out of sync with the video. Completely unwatchable.
After a little Googling I came across some reports that iDVD might not deal well with video that's been recorded with 12-bit audio. I've confirmed that my camcorder is (was!) set to 12-bit rather than 16-bit (the default, I'm sure). So if that's the problem I'm hosed... it's not like I can get a retake on that footage
Is there a reasonable workaround for this issue? I'm obviously unable to re-take the video (or the other 10 hours of DV video tape I've yet to use in an iMovie project). Ideally I'd like Apple to release a patch for this. Shouldn't it be possible for iDVD to account for audio that was originally recorded in 12-bit... even if it's just a checkbox you have to select to tip it off?
Then again, perhaps this is totally unrelated to the 12-bit issue, and this is just a run of the mill bug?
As I said... iMovie generates a MPEG4 video file of the Movie that looks/sounds perfect, so it seems this sync issue's being created somewhere in iDVD as it's rendering the audio/video to burn to the DVD...
    Thanks in advance.

I've tried most of the options I can think of, and the audio sync drift issue continues on this ~1hr 12 minute iMovie/iDVD 08 project.
A couple of promising ideas tried used QT Pro, to export the audio track from the iMovie generated MPEG-4 file - as a WAV file, resampling to 48kHz and 16-bit... then Adding this back to the video track in the MPEG-4 file (having deleted the original audio track). In another test I also tried the Add to Selection and Scale option. Oddly enough I think the Add to Selection and Scale attempt generated more sync issues than before in the final DVD movie... so I stuck with the MPEG-4 file containing the video track and the added, resampled at 48kHz & 16 bit, WAV audio track.
This was saved as a self contained Movie file, producing a QT .mov file. I moved this .mov file into the iDVD projects directory structure so that it was avalable in iDVD's Media Browser. I then reworked the iDVD project to use this QT large.mov file, instead of the original iMovie large.m4v file.
As a reminder... the original large.m4v file has the following properties:
    29.97 FPS H.264 Decoder, 960 x 540, Millions
    AAC, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz
    0:01:12:07.16 duration
The resampled and saved QT MOV file has the following properties:
    29.97 FPS H.264 Decoder, 960 x 540, Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
    0:01:12:07.16 duration
BOTH versions of this Movie file play flawlessly within QT Pro... there's no audio sync drift evident toward the end of the movie unless I use iDVD 08 to burn either movie file to a Physical DVD (or DVD Disk Image). In both cases the resultant DVD Movie exhibits significant audio sync drift as the ~1hr 12 minute movie progresses. The sync goes out by ~ <= 1 second based on a rough visual assessment.
I've not yet tried to burn either the original iMovie produced MPEG-4 video file or my QT Pro tweaked audio track .MOV file version to a DVD on my PC...
... But I have used an application called Burn (referenced in this earlier/archived iDVD sync drift forum post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1332100 by user F Shippey - http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/) to take the QT Pro tweaked .mov file version of the original MPEG-4 file and burn it to a DVD...
    Results:
The Burn app burnt DVD plays with NO audio sync issues!... Even though it was generated from the same audio tweaked (48kHz/16-bit resampled) QT Pro .mov file.
However, whenever I burn a DVD using iDVD 08 the audio sync gradually drifts. It matters not whether I use the original iMovie 08 generated MPEG-4 movie file, or the QT Pro version of that file with the resampled audio track (the same one that works fine with Burn).
It sure looks to me like iDVD has a problem... Again, refer to http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1332100 for someone else who seems to have run into similar challenges.
    Am I overlooking something?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Audio / video sync issue in playback

for every recording i've made, when i play back the archive there is noticable lack of sync between the audio and the person's mouth.   the video seems to lag behind by almost a second.  the good news at least is that the delta is constant.
has anyone else experienced this?  it's happening in any scendario i try, even if i'm just recording myself.
is the LCCS dev team aware of this?  since audio and video streams are recorded separately, is there any way for me to programatically 'nudge' the streams into sync?
it's currently a show stopper, it looks really bad when the sync is so obviously absent.

    finally getting back to this..
i did as you suggested and recorded a video of myself using the recording and playback examples provided with the SDK (the 2.2 newest version btw).
the de-syncing of audio and video is definitely there.  it seems especially bad for longer recordings.  however, an interesting thing i discovered in playback:
    - sometimes, if i drag the playhead somewhere in the recording, pause, and then hit play, video and audio fall into sync.
    - if i start playback from the beginning of the recording, audio/video is always out of sync.
i understand that the video and audio streams are recorded separately and thus played back separately.  my guess is that when those streams are retrieved and playback begins, one starts before/after the other because they're not retrieved at exactly the same time.  it seems some extra work is required to ensure that their playback commences at exactly the same timestamp within each stream.
i can provide my recordings as an example if required.
this is a total showstopper for me.  it renders the entire recording service useless if the playback can't have sync between audio and video.  i would be happy to help with testing this more.  can someone from the LCCS team comment on this issue?
    thanks

  • I am using ALSA and Icecat. When I play any html5 audio/video it works, but the next time i click on another audio/video link I lose sound.

I am using Parabola (a fork of archlinux), Icecat 31.4 and ALSA
Icecat and firefox seem to hold onto the soundcard when I click on a new html5 audio/video link in the same tab. The next video/audio element loses sound. If I wait 10 seconds and click back to the start of the audio/video, the audio returns. I often get cpu spikes for icecat when it happens.
I have tried this with both motherboard and usb sound and I get the same problem. I have disabled extensions (addons) in Icecat, deleted profiles, reinstalled the browser and even installed firefox from the AUR and it still occurs.
I have disable gstreamer in about:config and restarted and it still occurs.
    My .asoundrc is this:
    pcm.!default {
    type plug
    slave.pcm "hw:0,0"
All my other audio applications work. I have noticed that if I use pulseaudio it fixes it, but it should work without anyway, like it used to. I think something happened after an update, but I'm not sure.
Any help would be appreciated. I know it's not a big problem, but it's really frustrating and I've had it for ages. I even switched browsers to get away from it.

  • I just moved my itunes library from a win 7 computer to a win 8.1 computer. Getting an error message "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. Can't play CDs or get audio file from web!

Help! I just moved my itunes library from a Win 7 computer to a new Win 8.1 computer following the instructions on the itunes website. Everything is good except I'm getting an error message on the Win 8 computer if I try to play a CD or get an audio file off of the internet. I get an error message that says "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. I don't know where to look for or fix the audio configuration on the win 8 computer. As far as I can tell the iTunes configuration looks the same as on the other computers in the house. At this point I don't dare plug my ipod touch into the Win 8 computer for fear it will get messed up.

I have the same problem and I know that it is due to my PCI Audio driver not being compatible with WIndows 8.1.
iTunes isn't the only program that can't direct sound to the built-in speakers anymore. The obvious solution would be to update the drivers, but unfortunately Dell does not provide an updated driver for my model, so I am stuck with that.
However, saying that, only my laptop speakers are affected by this. I can use sound fine on applications where I can choose the output device and direct sound to the head phones, but for some reason iTunes does not let you choose the audio device manually.
To listen to music I imported the iTunes Library in Windows Media Player and changed the audio output using the following instructions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/c00d11ba
However, I would also like to rent movie's from iTunes,
Would be great if iTunes would let you choose the output device, too, like most other applications using sound  from Skype to Windows Media Player,...
