Synching between ipod and itumes

So I have a bunch of music on my ipod and a bunch on my computer. I want to synch the two so they both have the same music.
Everytime I tell itunes to synch the two it comes up with a warning that if I proceed it will erase all the music no the ipod and replace it with the music on itunes. This is not good. There is some music on the ipod that I want transfered to itunes and vice versa. If it simply erases the stuff on the ipod, it is going to destroy everything that is not in itunes. What am I doing wrong. I've looked everywhere in itunes and can't figure out how to get a true synch.
This is weird.
Help!

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
Senuti Mac Only
PodView Mac Only
PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
iRepo Mac & Windows
iPodRip Mac & Windows
YamiPod Mac & Windows
Music Rescue Mac & Windows
iPodCopy Mac & Windows
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

After replacing the hard drive on my G4 Powerbook and reinstalling Tiger I am no longer able to synch between itunes and my ipod (Classic 160gb) it would seem that the software on the ipod is of later date than itunes and I am unable to update itunes to the state prior to the original harddrive's failure for Tiger OSX 10.4.11
Any ideas on the subject would be most helpful
    Thanks in advance
    Dingoh

The last security update released for Tiger users was the 2009-005 update. The latest version of QuickTime is 7.6.4. The last version of iTunes that can run on Tiger is 9.2.1, because 10.0 only supports Mac OS X Leopard and later.
So, are you on version 9.2.1?
Was it Tiger or Leopard you had on the drive before?

  • What do I do to get  notes to synch to my Windows 7 outlook.  Before I use ICloud and synched my IPod and IPhone by cable to my PC, it worked fine.  On the ICloud control panel there is no mention of notes but on Notes on Outlook, the cloud is selected

What do I do to get Notes to synch to my Windows 7 Outlook.  Before I began synching my IPod and IPhone to my PC with the ICloud and synched by cable, the synching was fine.  There is no mention of notes on the ICloud control panel but the ICloud is selected on Outlook notes.

Make sure you don't have any notes that have no content or subject or this can prevent syncing with Outlook.  If you do, delete them.
If you don't, try unchecking "Mail,Contacts,Calendars & Tasks with Outlook" on the iCloud control panel for Windows, choose Delete at the prompt (the data will still be in iCloud), restart your PC, then go back and check this setting again.  (Your iCloud data will reappear in Outlook after a brief delay as it redownloads.)
Then create a new note on one of your iOS devices and see if it appears in the Notes folder in Outlook mail after a few minutes.

Unfortunately many posts of people who claim to have no issues with their 3G iPhones sound pretty much the same.

Please note, this is not aimed at you, but a general observation.
If their Iphone 3Gs work great then all of them have to work great and those of us who have a really bad iPhone 3G experience are just too dense to use them, are one the wrong network, clueless about 3G or generally just technologically challenged dimwits who don't understand neither the wonderful world of 3G nor how beautifully the iPhone 3G works, even when it doesn't.
Again, I had more dropped and failed calls with the iPhone 3G in four hours than I had with My Nokia 6280 on the same 3G network in almost two years. The network is also very clearly not overloaded, since I never had another another dropped or failed call after yanking SIM card out of the IDoorStop 3G and putting it back into the Nokia.

  • TS4062 prevent syncing between ipod and iphone

I  don't want my contact list to sync between my iphone and my daughter's ipod touch.  I checked the "don't synch automatically" option, but this don't seem to correct the problem.  Any ideas anyone?

As long as you sync before you start to listen then the iPod and iTunes will always start playback from the same point.

  • Transfer between iPod and iTunes - mission impossible !

I recently got iPod Touch (latest model with latest iOS) - just to use it in my car. I simply wanted to add and remove few songs. In a normal world, there would be just 2 columns (ipod/computer and simple managing both parts within files and folders management - let us be sincere, can anything be more natural and straightforward ? Sure not). But Apple wants it to make super complicated and highly frustrating. OK, what to do,
Since I already have a different computer (newer version of MBP Retina, with the latest OSX) , I needed to get the iPod content to the iTunes on the new computer somehow. This is impossible as such - since iTunes keep telling that if I want to associate this iPod with this iTunes library , I have to erase the iPod (this is something I really don't want). I try "full backup" - as offered by iTunes ... I do it few times, the process starts, but always lasts quite short (considering 1700 songs with 24 GB on my iPod). The result is - nothing is backuped to this computer ... very nice ...
In further search, I discover some third party apps, that supposedly could help with this terrible process. I bought AnyTrans and started transferring the content to iTunes. in 9 hours, it was just 4 GB transferred ... (overnight) ... obviously not the way ... On another advice , I bought iExplorer, it should be supposedly better. I tried to transfer the iPod content to iTunes ("start automatic transfer). I tried it 5 times. As a result, the app always froze and for quit was the only solution. NIce. Then I got an advice that it is good not to transfer to iTunes but just to some folder on a computer. That finally worked. Good
Then I added all these songs to iTunes Library (finally some first result after many hours of effort). Then I agreed that this iPod can be associated with this iTunes Library (that already contained those 1700 songs) and let it synced with this iPod.  After some time the iPod was indeed erased. No music in it any more. As much as I tried again and again to sync it with iTunes Library, the process went in three short steps and finished. The result - no music on iPod, whatever I do ... Full music Library in iTunes on MBP
What shall I say and still keep my expressions decent ? (difficult) This iTunes and this system of working with files on iPod or iPhones is for me the most stupid invention ever. How could someone ever create such a terrible nonsense that make simple things impossible and highly frustrating ? Instead of simple file transfer between devices ... I have no words for that ... It is also possible that it is me who is stupid, in that case, please let me know how can I transfer songs from iPod to iTunes and how can I how some songs on iPod (that are already in iTunes Library). Not to waste computer space by having iPod library copied there, is another thing, but let us not go to details now

Yes, all played in iTunes in the computer, right boxes checked (see the printscreens) ...  In the end , I restored to restarting iPod and MBP. After that it started working (synchronisation). But only up to some extent. In iTunes Library I have about 1700 tracks, but only 660 were transferred to iPod. Now I made: "add to library" - adding to library all the song I already have in Library: and the iTunes started working hard to add the rest in the Library (but they were already there ...)
So finally I spend nice whole day to add/remove songs in my iPod ...
Another thing is - when in iTunes Library I want to add/change genre to some songs, the process takes so long, it is like each song is freshly copied just to add the tag "classical" etc to each ... I thought I have the "fastest Mac ever" ... Waiting so long for such trivial process is unbelievable ... (with rainbow circle making a nice decoration now and then)

  • Why there isnt direct cable or Bluetooth sync link between iPod and iPhone?

I own both the iPod and the iPhone, both linked to iTunes. It is only possible to sync between the iPod to iTunes or between the iPhone to iTunes.
Why there is no possibility to directly link and sync between the iPod and iPhone ?
I will explain why this is bothering me so much. While on vacation I bought some songs from iTunes directly from my iPhone.
When i needed these songs on my iPod, it was inpossible, becouse my PC was left at home.
Because of this I am wondering don't you think irrational the impossibility to have a direct link and sync between the iPod and iPhone via white cable or via Bluetooth connections meant only for the link sync with PC ?
I mean even Nintendo DS and SONY PSP have this kind of sync links.
Message was edited by: Arkam Knight

Rationally this means that if I can download the same things on both my devices
form the same PC based iTunes software, there must be some way to link the
same both devices directly by cable or radio frequency.
Sorry, but I do not see the logic here at all. The statement simply means iTunes can connect with multiple devices. It does not say iPods (or iPhones) can connect with each other at all. It simply doesn't work that way. I can pull a trailer with my car. You can pull a trailer with your car. Therefore my trailer should be able to pull your trailer? I don't think so.

  • Some mail not syncing between iPod and MacBook

    Hello
I have an iPod Touch, 4th gen running the latest version of iOS and a MacBook Pro running OS 10.7.5.  Until Friday I had two e-mail accounts that I used every day, and got my messages on both the iPod and the MacBook.  I have iCloud set up with an icloud.com address, plus another address not related to iCloud.  All my icloud.com message would sync perfectly between my iPod and my MacBook.
On Friday I deleted my other address (the non-icloud one).  Now all the messages I received to my icloud address *before or after* Friday sync to my MacBook, but there are three messages that I received on Friday that only appear on my iPod.  I would like to see these on my MacBook because that's where I keep old messages for future reference.
Any idea how to fix this?  I can forward them to myself, but then the recipient will be me and not the original person. Not a tragic thing, but will be confusing when I try to find them in the future.
Any help will be appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

Just to be sure I understand your question:
This is with an Apple email account (@iCloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com)?
When this happens, is the mail visible through webmail on iCloud.com (on the desktop browser)?

  • Can you sync calendar between iPod and iPad

Is it possible to sync Calendar, Contacts and Notes between an iPod and iPad, without having to use a third party method?
I have both and would like to be able to keep these synced as there are times when it is more useful to use the alternative device.

Use iCloud with the same Apple ID.

  • How to connect ratings between iPod and iTunes

Hey I just got an iPod and I want the ratings I set on the pod to update onto my computer. When I connect the iPod I can see the songs on the iPod have the ratings I set when I was using the iPod, but the original songs on the computer aren't updated.
    Any advice?
Or do the ratings only flow one way? Thanks a lot guys,
    Josh

It works for me; i.e. when I set ratings on the iPod, and then I sync the iPod, the ratings in the iTunes Library change to what I set on the iPod.
Maybe it depends on the iPod model?

  • Syncing between iPod and computer messed up!

My dad was trying to sync an album onto his nano, but when the songs are imported they come out shuffled in alphabetical order. How can he fix this?

  • 7.0.2 crashes when click between iPod and music library

I just upgraded to 7.0.2. iTunes recognizes my iPod and will even play the music, but if I click on the music library after having clicked on anything in my connected iPod, iTunes quits without even an error message. I just wiped my 1.6 Ghz PowerPC G5 and reinstalled 10.4, then upgraded to iTunes 7.0.2. I have a 5G iPod video. 7.0.1 works just fine with my iPod on my iBook.
    Help!
    Thanks.
    1.8 Ghz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4)

I think it's fixed. I followed the instructions on this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=717600&tstart=0
and reinstalled 7.0. First I put iTunesX.pkg and iTunes 7.0.2 in the trash, then I ran the installer. iTunes still behaved badly until I emptied the trash. Now iTunes and my iPod play nicely together unless I click on the iPod while it's still loading, in which case iTunes crashes again.

  • Conflict between iPod and external hard drive

I just got a 250GB external hard drive made by SimpleTech so that I could store all my music and video off my computer hard drive. However, when it's running, it disconnects my iPod and won't let me transfer files to it through iTunes. Seeing as how I want to sync all the files on my external with my iPod, this kind of defeats the whole purpose of the external. It doesn't matter what USB port I try it in, every time Is tart it up, it stops my iPod from communicating. Anyone have any ideas what this is about or how to fix it?
    HP   Windows XP

Try changing the drive letter of either the ext hd or your iPod.
Click on control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management/right click on the iPod to re-assign the drive letter.
Choose something lower down the alphabet, say 'M' or something similar.
The iPod can be confused by any other storage devices assigned a similar drive letter even though they may not connected at the same time.

  • Lost connection between ipod and laptop

    Hi there,
Not sure if this is a question for ipod or itunes, but here goes.
I recently purchased a 5th gen ipod and installed itunes on my 2 PC's and a PC based laptop. All worked fine.
Now when I connect the USB cable to the laptop, I hear three quick beeps, (not the usual 2 beeps) my ipod starts charging, but I can't see the ipod in itunes.
When I check device manager, there is an entry with a yellow question mark (labelled ipod) which says the driver is not installed. However when I load the itunes CD, the wizard says no drivers found.
My ipod works fine on the 2 other PC's.
I tried system restore but for some reason it fails to go back to any restore points. whether that's part of the problem or a red herring, I haven't a clue.
    Can anyone help?
    Many thanks

  • Synching between Outlook and my Storm via Desktop Software

So, I have a bunch of contacts on my Storm and a few in my Outlook.  I have the synching set up so that it is a two-way sync between the two.  However, when I run the sync, all of the contacts on my Storm are downloaded onto my computer/Outlook and the ones in my Outlook are now deleted and didn't get transferred to my Storm
What's the deal?!  I thought it was a two-way sync?  Any ideas as to why this is happening or how I can control this?
    Thanks!
    Mike

Welcome to the Apple Community diannebc.
First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.
