Synching between machine using Tiger OS and machine using Leopard.

I have a MacBook, (os Tiger), and an IMac (os Leopard.) I have a Maxtor One Touch mini drive. I want to synch the "Documents" folder between the two, (I'm a writer and work from one to the other computer.) The client agent software that came with the Maxtor doesn't seem to work on the IMac. It does not see the Maxtor drive at all. I wonder if it's because Time Machine grabs the external device and greedily holds on to it?

I have the EXACT same situation. Same computer setup and same external drive. I also have a .Me account and that perhaps that might be the trick (is that possible?). Has anyone had any success syncing using any application to sync doc folders? (I already use Time Machine to backup my iMac).

  • How can i get icloud to synch between outlook on my pc and my iphone 5?

I have loaded icloud on my PC and it's on my i5 phone.  However, I can't get my calendar and contacts to synch between my PC and phone.  Any suggestions?

Make sure to go into your icloud panel on your PC (in control panel) and on your phone (settings) and check everything you want to synch.  Curious to know if this works for you as mine was working perfectly until last week.

  • Can you share photos between machines that use the same wifi network? Thanks for your help.

Can you share photos on i-photo between machines that use the same network or even between different accounts on the same machine? I know you can share music on i-tunes but can you do the same on i-photo? Thanks for your help.

    Yes.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
You can figure out using it with another machine from that too

  • ITunes not syncing properly between machines and devices

My setup used to work just fine before the updates to syncing, now it is just a big mess.
    Before:
iTunes install on my Mac tied to my iPad used primarily for video content and video podcasts.
iTunes install on my Windows machine tied to iPod/iPhone used primarly for audio content and audio podcasts.
Each one was in it's own little world and everything just worked.
    Now:
Both iTunes installs are getting the full list of podcasts from each other and their devices, so my audio podcasts are now showing up on the Mac and video podcasts are showin up in Windows.  I don't really care that is happening, but the watched/played status is not updating properly across the board.  For example, if I watch or listen to a podcast that status is not updating everywhere.  Worst case is that on some occasions, items that I have already watched/played are reverting back to unwatched/unplayed status.
Is there a way to get syncing working properly, or do I just need to turn all of those options off and go back to just direct syncing between machine and device?

    Jason,
Thanks for your response. I am using Exchange and syncing over-the-air, not using iTunes. As you suggested, I deleted the Exchange account and then set it up again - but that did not work. HOWEVER - observations that I made while doing what you suggested led me down another path, and I was able to solve my problem! So - thanks!
In case anyone else has this problem, here is what my problem was and I how I figured it out (I hope someone finds it useful).
My problem was not an iPhone-to-Exchange sync problem, rather it turned out to be an Entourage-to-Exchange sync problem with the calendar. Turns my entourage calendar folder cache was messed up and had to be "emptied". I found this article that helped me do that: http://www.helpdesk.ilstu.edu/kb/index.phtml?kbid=1453
    How I discovered the solution:
As I said, my problem was that calendar items edited or created on the iPhone were not showing up in my calendar when viewed from Entourage. When I deleted the exchange account from my iPhone, the calendar items that were (as far as I knew) ONLY on the iPhone and had not been sync-ed to exchange should have been lost forever. When I put exchange back on the iPhone - those item showed up again. So either the database on the iPhone didn't get erased when I deleted the account or those items REALLY WERE in exchange all along. So, I used Outlook Web Access to view my calendar items in exchange by bypassing entourage - and sure enough, they WERE there all along. That isolated the problem to Entourage and once I figured that out the solution was pretty easy to find.

After replacing the hard drive on my G4 Powerbook and reinstalling Tiger I am no longer able to synch between itunes and my ipod (Classic 160gb) it would seem that the software on the ipod is of later date than itunes and I am unable to update itunes to the state prior to the original harddrive's failure for Tiger OSX 10.4.11
Any ideas on the subject would be most helpful
    Thanks in advance

The last security update released for Tiger users was the 2009-005 update. The latest version of QuickTime is 7.6.4. The last version of iTunes that can run on Tiger is 9.2.1, because 10.0 only supports Mac OS X Leopard and later.
So, are you on version 9.2.1?
Was it Tiger or Leopard you had on the drive before?

  • Synching between three macs WITHOUT using .mac

Is there a way to synch between three different computers? I have two at home (a main one, and a laptop), and I need to be able to make one the 'master' and have it mirrored to the laptop occaisionally. I can connect them via the network.
Same question for the remote (work) mac - can I ftp or email the synch files? Can this be done? .mac would probably be best, but since Apple charges a 40% surcharge simply because I live in Canada, I refuse to buy it.(As of now, we should be getting a 'discount'. Would be easiest if they just charged everything in US dollars, and let the finance companies do the conversion.)
Same question for mail as well as address book.

Get a copy of Folderssynchronizer for each Mac. Choose which folders you want to keep synced - Documents, presumably, and any others. You can do this with Address Book but Mail might be problematic - certainly if you are using different versions. If they are the same you could probably sync the ~/Library/Mail folder, but it could be pretty large. See below for another method.
Get a large capacity USB drive - you can get them up to 4MB. Create an empty folder with the same name for each of the folders you want to sync. Now you can carry out a sync from you main Mac to the USB stick, and from the USB stick to the other computers in the same way
You need to sync each computer at the beginning and end of a session, and operate a rule which is that the computer which is currently between these syncs is the only one to have files modified (if you modify the same file on two computers one of them will get overwritten).
You could do this over the network, but for the work computer it might prove too difficult and slow to be worth it.
Syncing Mail may be better done by setting each machine to leave messages on the server for one week (or whatever): then each message gets downloaded to each machine (which can be a bit confusing). You could Bcc replies to yourself and use Rules to route these to the 'Sent' folder. Of course the best way to sync mail is to use IMAP.

  • Disk image moved between machines--shouldn't this work?

Hello, I am having a problem making a functional DVD. Here's the scenario:
I have a MacBook Pro (2009) with iMovie '09 installed, and I have a project I want to burn. The optical drive is broken, and the smart folks at Apple decided that they'd make it impossible for my shiny new external superdrive to work with my MacBook Pro. BUT, I also have a MacBook Air 2012 which can use the superdrive just fine. I can't transfer the iMovie project between machines--iMovie '11 has some terrible bugs when you try to import still photographs. So my solution was this:
--on the MBP, export the movie from iMovie as a quicktime .mov,
--open the .mov in iDVD (after experimentation, this gives MUCH better results than choosing "export to iDVD" in iMovie)
--in iDVD, save as a disk image
--copy the .img file (using a thumb drive) to the MBA
--Use Disk Utility on the MBA to burn the disk image just transferred onto a DVD using the external superdrive
Could someone tell me where this elaborate chain is likely to go wrong? The first disc I tried creating like this could be played on a computer using VLC (and the menu was operational, it wasn't just reading the video file), but it didn't work on either of the regular DVD players I tried.
Any help troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated. Here are the details of all the settings:iMovie 09 -> export using quicktime -> file type .mov -> compression type H.264, Frame rate current, Key frames automatic, compressor quality Best, encoding Best Quality, Data Rate automatic. In iDVD Preferences I chose NTSC (I'm in North America), encoding Professional Quality, and the correct DVD type (dual layer). In Disk Utility on the MBP I just dragged the transferred .img file into the left-hand pane, selected it and hit Burn.
When I transferred the .img file, that was all I transferred between machines.
    Thank you!

the .img file was only ~700 MB (it's a short film). Should it have worked, in this case?
    Don't know - May be ?
How can I find out whether it (the ext Hard Disk) is formatted as Mac OS extended?
    • Select it on DeskTop/Finder (one Click)
    • then go to File and down to Show Info - or - [cmd+I]
    • read formatted as : nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
And lastly I read elsewhere that DVD-R would be more reliable than DVD+R.
DVD+R are a more modern format and by so more reliable - BUT OLD DVD-Players can not read them so I chose them due to not knowing what player it will be played on.
And I think that if the DVD was able to be read on another computer, then it could not have had burn errors right?
No - but different devices has better or worse Error Correcting Functions - so keeping the amount of Burn Errors dowm = More devices can play them.
    Good Luck.

  • Why doesn't iChat synch between my iPhone and iPad and iMac ?

I am using iChat on my iMac but the messages won't synch between my iPhone and iPad even though I am signed into my iCloud account on all three devices

    HI,
It seems that in Messages Beta you could create a "Start Date" if all old messages were removed from the iOS devices.
It seems no different in Messages.  (I used this Method during the Beta period)
Others have reported that turning the Phone Off and On again also creates a "Start Point"
(The two methods are mutually exclusive if you do the above first).

  • I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard and foolishly upgraded to Yosemite.  Is it possible to go back in time with Time Machine and reinstall Snow Leopard.  Then upgrade to Lion or Mavericks?  Any other ideas on how I can exit Yosemite?

I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard and foolishly upgraded to Yosemite. Now have numerous problems.  Is it possible to go back in time with Time Machine and reinstall Snow Leopard?  Then upgrade to Lion or Mavericks?  Any other ideas on how I can exit Yosemite?

Once you get yourself back to Snow Leopard, if you still want to upgrade somewhat, I would suggest the following:
    1. Get an external hard drive that you can use for experiments with new OS versions. You could partition it into 2 or 3 partitions. You could then clone your existing Snow Leopard system to one partition using Carbon Copy Cloner (well worth $40) or SuperDuper ($25).
    2. Buy OS X Mountain Lion for $20, through the Apple online store (I don't think it's available through the App Store). Apple has decided to make it very difficult for anyone to get Mavericks unless they have already downloaded it.
You will receive two e-mails from Apple, one containing a PDF with a redemption code, and one with the password you will need to unlock the PDF. Using the code, you will download Mountain Lion from the App Store, where it will appear among your Purchased items.
After ML finishes downloading, its installer app will launch itself. When you see this launch screen, QUIT the install app immediately! Go to your applications folder, find the Install OS X Mountain Lion app, and copy it to a safe location outside of your Applications folder. Keeping one or more copies will allow you to reinstall without unnecessary aggravation if you later need or want to do that. At this point, you can re-launch the Installer in the Applications folder and let it run. You can install it on a clean partition on your external HD, or you can allow it to upgrade the Snow Leopard clone you created on your external drive, or you can do both. This should allow you to test how everything works for as long as you like.
    3. If you left yourself a free partition on your test drive, try a clean install of Yosemite and set everything up from scratch (do not migrate anything). This will allow you to see whether your problems with it were related to something in your Snow Leopard system.

  • Will Time Machine with Leopard Sync With New Hard Drive and Snow Leopard?

My computer is a 20" iMac that I bought in late 2008. The hard drive had trouble so Apple repaired with disk utility. Week later, more trouble so they did full hard drive erase. Data was backed up on Time Machine, 500GB also bought in 2008. After full hard drive erase, and reinstall of basic software, upon reboot, computer would power on then immediately off. It doesn't get past white screen. They advised a new hard drive install is needed.
A computer friend can install a hard drive just fine for me. However, I do not have the Leopard install disc. He could do it with Snow Leopard but I am scared. I'm afraid because my Time Machine last backup was with Leopard, not snow Leopard. I do not have my application discs with me, they are in storage in another state. Thus, if upon adding replacing hard drive and installing Snow Leopard my computer won't be able to sync FILES and APPLICATIONS from Time Machine because its on Leopard I will have a problem.
How can I either 1)Get a Leopard install disc and do that with the new hard drive install OR 2)make sure that a Snow Leopard install with new hard drive won't prevent my Time Machine from being able to install the saved FILES and APPLICATIONS if I don't have original APPLICATION (ie Aperture, Photoshop) with me? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
That Mac should have come with Leopard. If so, call AppleCare. They'll send you replacement discs for a nominal fee.
Once this is sorted out, make a 8-10 GB partition on an external HD or your internal HD, and use the Restore tab of Disk Utility to copy the Install disc to that partition. Then you can boot and run from it instead of the physical disc. It will boot and run much faster, too.
He could do it with Snow Leopard but I am scared.
If he does, and doesn't provide a retail Snow Leopard disc, you must buy one ($29). It's a violation of the license to share software, and you'll need a SL disc to do things like restore a Snow Leopard backup, or the Snow Leopard Apple apps, or repair the internal HD.
Your best bet is to stay with Leopard, at least until you have access to your 3rd-party software discs.
What you can do, however, is borrow his Snow Leopard Install disc (assuming it's a white Retail disc, not a gray one that came with his Mac), and use it to do a full system restore from your backups. That's not a violation of the license, since you don't install or use OSX from that disc; you just use the Installer utility on it to restore the Leopard OSX and all your data from your backups.

Please note, this is not aimed at you, but a general observation.
If their Iphone 3Gs work great then all of them have to work great and those of us who have a really bad iPhone 3G experience are just too dense to use them, are one the wrong network, clueless about 3G or generally just technologically challenged dimwits who don't understand neither the wonderful world of 3G nor how beautifully the iPhone 3G works, even when it doesn't.
Again, I had more dropped and failed calls with the iPhone 3G in four hours than I had with My Nokia 6280 on the same 3G network in almost two years. The network is also very clearly not overloaded, since I never had another another dropped or failed call after yanking SIM card out of the IDoorStop 3G and putting it back into the Nokia.

Anybody know how to get subscribed podcasts synchronized between machines? Like bookmarks in Safari that are synchronized between machines? I don't care if each machine pulls down it's own local copy of the pod cast, I just don't want to repeat administration on my laptop and G5 separately.

  • Using the Open Catalog Interface (OCI) between SAP-ECC 6.0 and SAP-MDM

    Hello ASUG Community.
I'm working on an SAP-MDM project where we will configure the OCI interface between SAP-ECC 6.0 and SAP-MDM.  The business requirement will be to punch out to SAP-MDM's catalog from SAP-ECC for expensed items (e.g., no material master record exists in SAP-ECC).
The data that will be returned to SAP-ECC will be purchase price info, material group, short text, & our global SAP-MDM item number.
The question I've been trying to design around is "where to store the SAP-MDM item number"?
I've looked into creating a custom filed on EKPO but now feel that a configured text field will be the best solution from an SAP-ECC point of view (less effort on the SAP-ECC side from a development perspective, no need to regenerate the EKPO table, etc.).
The question I'd like to pose to ASUG is.... Does anyone have experience or an opinion to offer using this functionality?  It seems that I will have to code in a user exit or BAdi to insure that the SAP-MDM item numbers are returned to the appropriate text field on my POu2019s.  Or can this be done using the standard OCI functionality?
I found OSS note 1347656 which references BADI "ME_CATALOG_INTERFACE" but I'm not sure if this right path to go down or if this would be the correct place to code non-conforming OCI mapping requiremetns.
Any insight would be most appreciated.
    Thanks.  Sincerely,
    Rich Wortmann

I would suggest you create a new field for this as you may require thois going forward for reporting as well. Text fields are difficult to report.
Sorry not sure about the BADI to use.
