Synching Bookmarks Fails & Corrupts Safari ?

The first time I manually synched my Safari bookmarks it was successful, however since then whenever I manually synch my bookmarks (several hundred ) to my iPod touch, the synching in not successful. Usually I am unable to open the bookmarks or none are there and Safari becomes almost nonfunctional; the Home button doesn't work, it becomes very difficult to exit and switch to another application. The only way to rectify this is to do a restore.
I have tried several complete restores including restoring the software but the issue continues.
Any ideas how to fix this ?

Yes. If the bookmarks still do not sync after Resetting the Sync History, choose the advanced option to replace bookmarks on the iPhone.
This will erase any bookmarks on the iPod touch and sync the bookmarks to the iPod.

  • Safari - bookmarks - plist - corruption

At least once a day and sometimes more Safari replaces my bookmarks with an old version. I recognize it immediately because my bookmark bar will show a version i used a long time ago. Also all of my bookmarks are now messed up.
Luckily i have a good backup and now I create a backup of my plist every morning so when i see this happen I delete all my plist and replace that backup that i know is good.
Does anyone know why does this happens? I can't find a particular "event" that triggers it.
I've even gone so far as to write an automator script to delete the old version and replace with a backup version because it happens so often.
    Thanks,

Did you deselect the box next to Safari in System Preferences > iCloud
And turn off Safari in Settings > iCloud  (for iOS devices)
Might be corrupted Safari preferences ...
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • Synching bookmarks with iPhone

When I synched my iPhone for the second time, I ended up with double bookmarks on both the iPhone and Safari. I clearly don't want this. So I deleted the doubles, and unchecked the synch bookmarks.
At the Apple store they had no idea why this happened. So I tried to synch again this time with the synch bookmarks checked. Now it says it will delete 55 items from bookmarks on my computer. I don't want it to do this either since now the bookmarks on my iPhone match my computer. So I don't know why it is going to delete the bookmarks on my computer.
While this is not a huge problem, I would like to be able to keep the iPhone up to date with my bookmarks as I add them to my computer.
Anyone else having problems with synching and bookmarks.
    Thanks in advance.
    Russell

I just started having this happen this morning. On the Mac I had "Bookmarks Bar" and "Bookmarks Menu" with spaces between the words. These had my functioning URLs. There were also "BookmarksBar" and "BookmarksMenu" with no spaces. These were empty.
On the iPhone side, it was the opposite. "BookmarksBar" and "BookmarksMenu" had the URLs in them while "Bookmarks Bar" and "Bookmarks Menu" did not.
So, I re-synced, then deleted the non-space on both Mac & iPhone, and then synced again, but under Advanced, I checked "Bookmarks" to replace the bookmarks on the phone with the bookmarks from the computer.
All looks well at the moment.

  • RSS - Live bookmark failed to load - Firefox, RSS feeds not updating

I am new to this forum, and I figure this has been covered before. However, I'm not finding an answer.
I have a Beehive workspace and go to Recent Activity to subscribe to the RSS feed. When using Firefox, I am prompted for my username and password. The RSS feed works until I quit Firefox. After restarting Firefox, I get the "Live bookmark failed to load" message.
If I try to access the feed with Safari, I have the option to enter my username and password, and then save that info in my keychain. I'm trying to determine if the reason the RSS feed isn't updating because of some authentication problem.
People using Internet Explorer have also reported problems with Beehive workspace RSS feeds not updating, so I'm trying to find a solution.
Not providing reliable RSS feeds is slowing down adoption of our workspace, and people aren't wanting to use the workspace until I've resolved the RSS issue.
Can you point me to a solution or to information on how to resolve the RSS updating issues.
    Thanks.

    HI,
The RSS feed is password protected as you have to be an authenticated user to access the complete system. The issue seems to be in the browser - if it does not trigger a check for username/password and then prompt if not set there is a li9mited amount we can do.
We are working on getting the subscriptions inside beehive working which will generate notifications but that will not be available for a week or so.

  • Firefox bookmarks to replace Safari bookmarks, complete instructions

For all of us dummies out there : ]
Here are the complete instructions to get your Firefox bookmarks into Safari, and to get them to replace the ones you have in Safari. This is useful for people who, on their computer, do not use Safari, and only use Firefox, but need their Firefox bookmarks easily accessible on their phone (without having to use the Firefox Home App). This will allow your Firefox bookmarks to get synched onto your iPhone's Safari App. Only thing I haven't figured out is how to automatically make this happen, so Safari bookmarks continuously update with changes in the Firefox bookmarks.
Here's a link on how to export Firefox bookmarks to your computer, and then import them into Safari:
    http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/export-bookmarks-safari
The only thing missing in that link is: How do we now get our bookmarks from Firefox to replace the ones in Safari? We want our Bookmark Toolbar in Safari to be the same as the one in Firefox, and the Bookmarks Menu as well.
The answer is straightforward, a slight pain in the butt, but simple. In Safari:
    1. click Bookmarks/Show All Bookmarks
    2. In Sidebar in Safari window, click on Bookmarks Bar. All bookmarks in Bookmarks Bar will be listed to the right.
    3. Select all of the bookmarks shown, and then hit Delete on your keyboard.
    4. In Sidebar, click on Bookmarks Menu. All Bookmark Menu items will be listed to the right.
    5. Select all of the bookmarks shown, then Delete.
    6. In Sidebar, click on your just-imported-from-Firefox imported bookmarks. It should be listed as "Import" with a date.
    7. In window, find Bookmark Toolbar (you will need to scroll way down the list past regular bookmarks), and click its arrow to open the list of bookmarks below it.
    8. Select all those bookmarks below the arrow, and drag them into the sidebar, and drop them on top of the Bookmarks Bar item.
    9. In Sidebar, again click on your just-imported-from-Firefox imported bookmarks.
    10. In window, you will see all the other bookmarks.
    11. Select all those bookmarks, and drag them into the sidebar, on top of the Bookmarks Bar item.
Now all your Firefox bookmarks are in Safari in the same places. When you sync your iPhone, all those bookmarks will be available in the Safari App.

Anyone with assistance for this question?  It would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • Will it synch bookmarks to my other devices?

I am currently synching bookmarks from Safari on my Mac to my iPhone and I just started dong it with my new iPad. If I add a bookmark on my iPad, how does it synch to my other devices? Can I now add a bookmark on any device and have them all synch to the other devices?
    Thanks.

    Hello:
If you use iCloud.  I don't use it for a variety of reasons, but that is the purpose of iClod.
    Barry

  • We have a new iPad Mini.  I cannot save a new Bookmark.  In Safari, I go to "Share" and select "Add a Bookmark" yet when I click on the Bookmarks icon, my saved Bookmark is not there.  Am I doing something wrong?

We have a new iPad Mini, and I'm having inconsistent results using Bookmarks in the Safari icon.
For a long time, on the iPad, I could only see five items under the Bookmark icons and the Bookmarks Bar was empty.
Occasionally, in Safari, the iPad would pick up and display all of the Bookmarks from the Safari browser on my iMac.
Other times, there are only a bare few Bookmarks available on the iPad, the Bookmarks Bar goes away and I cannot save a new Bookmark.  It looks like I can save one, but I cannot find it after allegedly saving.
Then, all of the Bookmarks will come back and I can save a new Bookmark again. We can't figure out why all of the Bookmarks will show and then they won't.
I want to think this involves iCloud some way, but for right now, I'm stumped.  Perhaps we're just too inexperienced and haven't come around the learning curve yet.
    Thanks for any help.
    Steve

No, I see the three areas at the bottom of the Bookmark area that you refer to, but that also highlights an issue.  When I want to save a story to my Reading List and click on Share then "Add to Reading List" then go back to look at what is stored in the Reading List, my recently-saved item is not there.
I looked thru the History tab and the Reading List tab and have been in the Bookmark tab.  But even when I Save a Bookmark, that newly-saved Bookmark does not show up in the Bookmark area.
But then again, the next day (and actually just in the last half-hour) all of the functionality came back.  When I look at the Bookmarks, suddenly, again, all of the Bookmarks that are on my Safari browser on my iMac are now there, and I can now Save a Bookmark.
It keeps coming in and out and that is what is driving me a little nuts.
    Thanks.

  • Flash Player keeps failing in safari

I am using mac OS X Yosemite.
For some unknown reason flash keeps failing in safari, but works in chrome. I can't seem to resolve this issue, This is what I tried so far from answers I received in the apple support forums:
If you can't install or update Flash, follow these instructions.
If you have installed the latest version of Flash, please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.
    Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced ▹ Delete All...
In the sheet that opens, check the box marked
Delete All Site Data and Settings
then click Delete Data. Close the preference pane.
    Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    Step 4
    a. If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then select the Security tab in the Safari preferences window. In the list of plugins on the left, there should be one—and only one—entry for "Adobe Flash Player," showing the same version number that you installed. Select that entry. On the right there will be a list of websites for which you have specifically allowed Flash, if any. It's normal for the list to be empty. Below that is a menu labeled
              When visiting other websites
From that menu, select either Allow or Ask.
    b. If you still get the alerts, then go back to the Flash Player preference pane and select the Advanced tab. Click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
    c. If the alerts still persist, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
              Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
              Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
              Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
    Then click the button marked
              Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
    Step 9
    Select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
We have also run diagnostics on my mac but could not resolve this and eventually I was told the only thing left to do is seek support from adobe.
    Please help!

alright, also, I saw that in those instructions it tells me to delete these:
    <home directory>/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash\ Player
    <home directory>/Library/Caches/Adobe/Flash\ Player
now I can't find any of that stuff but I did find two files called com.macromedia.Flash Player.plugin.sb
in the library sub folders. should I delete them?

  • Safari 4 will not import bookmarks saved with Safari 3.2.3!

Safari 4.0 (Build 530.17) for Windows DOES NOT correctly import bookmarks saved with Safari 3.2.3 for Windows!! There are no links!! But it does import the folders.
For example if I open the bookmarks in Safari, it looks like an HTML file. It says this:
    Games
    http://www.romnation.net/srv/emulators/mame.html
    http://www.romnation.net/srv/download/rom/25758/mame/Tron-set-1.html
    and many more folder categories....
But when I go to the File Menu and choose "Import bookmarks..." it will only import the Folder names, such as "Games" but NOT the web links.
    It does not import these:
    http://www.romnation.net/srv/emulators/mame.html
    http://www.romnation.net/srv/download/rom/25758/mame/Tron-set-1.html

    its fixed now

How do I get iPad to stop synching bookmarks to my PC?

    Do you have iTunes Match?
If so, when does your subscription expire?  There have recently been a fair number of problems with the early adopters of iTunes Match having problems as iTM attempts to auto-renew the subscription.  Fixing this requires actual involvement of an Apple Tech Support person.
What you're describing was exactly the behavior I experienced when Apple mistakenly cut off my iTM account last weekend.

the problem is not that i dont have a backup of tha date within this 7GIG imagefile. the problem is now that i dont trust this format anymore. i do have a couple of AES-secured sparesimages FOR backup-reason (including one on my iPod) and if something happens to them i might be in serious trouble.
so now my question: is it possible to rescue this AES-secured spareseimage or is this kind of methos unsafe for important data?
    thanks
    klaus

Regular tools like Disk Utility and DiskWarrior
didn't solve anything. I was wondering if it is
possible to rescue some files by manually decrypting
the image with some low-level tool.
Did you have any succes? Given all reports on the
web, it seems a bit hopeless, but I like to give it a
    chance.
    no success at all, sorry.
i dumped the images now and also went back to some backups.
but i definitly don't use filevault anymore
