• Synching contact with Gmail adding contacts not in Gmail address book

I am using Gmail as default email. When I synch my iPhone 3G to update the contacts, I am getting addresses that are not on my calendar list in Gmail. These phantom emails appearing are addresses that I sent email to but typed in their addresses manually. They are not coming from Gmail's contact list directly.
Is there a way to stop this strange behavior and only synch the info in my Gmail contacts list?
Thanks in advance.

When new contacts are added, they are added to whatever account is set to the default.
To add a contact to another group:
Select Contacts
Select Groups.
Turn off contacts for all but the account desired to add the contact to.
Select Done.
Add the new contact.
Select Groups.
Turn on all contact groups.
Annoying, but it works.

• When I click "configure" in Synch Contacts with Google, I enter my google ID and PW, but it doesn't seem to take. I tried the same thing with Yahoo, and nothing happens. What is the problem?

This issue is similar to a question that was asked in Dec 2010, but was not answered, and has not been archived.
I'm hoping someone might have an idea.

Problem with iPhone contacts synchronization settings
I am having problems with iPhone contacts synchronization settings in iTunes 10. I have: - iPhone 4 - OS 4.2.1 - Windows Vista PC When I view the device in iTunes and click on "Info" at the top of the screen, I see a box to "Synch contacts with"...in iTunes for Windows,by lindsacl,Dec 4, 2010

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
• Synching contacts with Outlook does not work

I have a Mac (with the contacts application), an iPhone and an iPad as well as an iCloud account. Synching contacts between all 4 of them works perfectly. However, synching contacts with Outlook 2011 does not work anymore. It used to, then I had some trouble with the synching with the iCloud (due to the fact that I had to change the Apple ID from the one I use for iTunes to the one I use for the Cloud), and since then contacts do not replicate with Outlook anymore. I can deactivate and reactivate the synching in Outlook as much as I want, no change.
Any ideas? Thanks!

So it sounds like you have contacts from multiple mail accounts syncing to/from your iPhone. They will all appear there as long as their respective accounts are checked under contacts/groups(upper left of contact screen).
As far as contacts created on the iPhone, if you select Outlook as your default account for contacts, all contacts created on the iPhone will sync with Outlook. I'm assuming your Outlook syncs with an Exchange Server.
You could connect the iPhone to iTunes and sync all of your contacts to say, a desktop version of Outlook. You could then import that set of contacts into the Exchange version of Outlook.

• HT1296 When synching Outlook Contacts and calendars with iTunes for Windows, I do not get the option to "Synch Contacts with". It says, and cannot be changed, that it is synching with iCloud. How do I get iTunes to give me an option other than iCloud?

Using iTunes for Windows to synch my Outlook Contacts and Calendars into my iPhone 5, with the iPhone Device designated and in the Info tab, I do not have the option to "Synch Contacts with", but have an unchangeable message that it is synching with iCloud. How do I create that option to synch with Outlook?

Hi there,
I would recommend taking a look at some of the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.

• Syncronize groups of contacts with gmail

There's a way to syncronize groups of contacts with gmail ?
I can syncronize only my contacts but syncronizing groups seems impossible ....

It would be beneficial to be able to make groups within your contacts for group messaging I believe
You can make contact groups through iCloud. Keep in mind, however, that the Messages app only supports up to 10 recipients at a time. If you do a lot of group messaging, you may want to look at a dedicated group messaging such as GroupMe. It's cross platform and handles group messaging much better than the native client.

• Can't sync my local contact with gmail, help please.

Hi all,
I originally had my contact on BB Bold, then when i bought Z10 i transferred the contact using bb Link, now i have another phone (Samsung Galaxy S4) and i want my contact to by synced between both using gmail, so i configured my gmail on both devices, the configuration is 100% correct because in Z10 if i open Contacts then select Gmail category, and create a new contact i find it after a while in my Samsung,
but the problem is all my contacts available in the (All) which i believe its saved locally
Best Regards,
Alaa Bayer.

Thanks alot elessar,
The problem that i moved my contact from my bold to Z10 using Link, and my contacts was saved localy in the Bold and the same in Z10, so i never used Gmail or so what ever to sync the contacts.
but now to transfer my contacts from Z10 to Samsung Galaxy S4 i wanted to sync these local contacts with Gmail, but when i configured Gmail on Z10 it creates like a different container which is ofcourse empty, so if i go to All, i see my contacts, but if i go to Gmail contacts i have nothing.
if i create a new contact in Gmail container it copied immidetly to the Samsung so sync and configurations is OK.
So my problem to move the contacts on my Z10 from Local container to Gmail container.
actully after alooooot of searches i found a solution and it worked perfectly, i installed on my Z10 a software name (IntouchApp) which can see the local container on Z10 and sync them to IntouchApp servers then install the same softwar in my Galaxy and sync the contacts, then on the galaxy i exported the contacts to SD Card, then import it to Gmail, and finally i got my contacts on Gmail.
i don't know why Blackberry completly separate the contacts as containers and there is no option to transfer from one to another.
in any way i just sold out my Z10 yesterday and bye bye blackberry for every.

• Sync iPhone contacts with Gmail contacts whille having Outlook contacts

Hi,
I am currently syncing my iPhone's contacts with itunes ->Outlook.
Which means that all my contacts being saved on my Outlook account.
I also have many people/contacts on my Gmail accound that I wish to get in to my iPhone.
BUT:
The problem is that I am afraid to sync and get many many duplicates.
There is a way to merge both without making a MASS?
Plus:
It could be really nice to have all the contacts from my iPhone backed up on my Gmail account.
Thanks!!

Do you want to sync with Outlook.com or Windows PC Outlook? I'm guessing the latter since it sounds like you prefer to protect your privacy by not synching with the cloud. Try http://www.akruto.com. I've been using it with my iPhone and iPad without any problems. Website doesn't mention iOS, but I found out from a friend that it works with iOS and it does.

• How do I STOP synching contacts with FB?

I accidently answered yes at the initial setup - but I no longer want to synch FB with my contacts. Does anyone know how to change that setting?
I have the iPhone 4 (not S)
TIA!

It's Settings > Facebook > turn off Contacts.
And if you do not want all the Facebook birthdays and events on your Calendar turn off Calendar in the same location.

• Synching Contacts with Outlook 2010

I am running Outlook 2010 on a brand new computer. I am running iTunes version 9.2.0.61 and iPhone version 4.0.1. I have had no problem synching my contacts with my phone until today. There are 3 "contact" folders in Outlook: all called "contact" but 1 is associated with my e-mail address on microsoft's MAPI server; one is associated with my wife's e-mail address on microsoft's MAPI server; and one resides on the desktop in an "outlook" folder. As of yesterday the two MAPI folders were empty and all of the contact information was stored in the outlook folder. But today I entered a new e-mail address in the "to" field of an e-mail. When I synched my iPhone it erased all of the contact information on the iPhone and replaced it with the single e-mail address I had entered. When I checked the computer I saw that the new address had been placed in my e-mail MAPI contact folder. I removed it from the MAPI folder and put it in the "outlook" folder but the iPhone will not synch with the outlook folder. I have tried synching it several times and it just produces an empty contacts file. But it had been synching successfully with the outlook folder for the previous several days until an entry was made in the MAPI folder. What do I do now to get all of my contact information back on the iPhone?

Why isn't Apple addressing the Outlook 2010 64 bit Sync problems?
I had a computer crash & had to replace it. I didn't have copies of some of my software including Office 2007 and just bought all the new version and now nothing is working together...

• Duplicating contacts with Gmail

Hi All,
On my 4s in the contacts settings I have Gmail and Iphone ticked to show contacts. This duplicates a lot of contacts so I need to delete the duplicates.
I need both Gmail and Iphone settings ticked as the Gmail is my work contacts with our full worldwide email distribution list and when I add a new number to the phone it saves it to the iphone contacts therefore needing that open too.
So what I want to do is delete one of the two contacts but I dont know which is the iphone one or the gmail one as it doesnt say anywhere.
Is there anyway to check this so I dont delete from my gmail or can I sync any added detail to my gmail so it shows up by just having gmail only ticked in the groups.
Sorry this sounds a bit daft but I like to keep things neat and tidy on my phone!!!
Thanks very much

This is what i did
I opened my phone browser from my computer--- memory card---contacts and copied all the contacts on my pc as a VCF File and then with the help of Nokia Communication Center i re-checked them and simply connected my new E90 and copied the same on the memory card.... and the job was done......(My phone was connected in Nokia PC Suite Mode)
Another way is to use the application that nokia gifts its communicators users. Its called the Data Mover or Transfer...
This application transfers contacts, calender entries and some other data from some another nokia mobile phone free of cost. It requires installation of nokia data transfer application on both the devices.

• Syncing iphone contacts with Gmail contacts through itunes

is there a way to sync my iphone contacts and calendar with Gmail contacts and calendar directly through itunes?
when i am on itunes and i open teh drop menu next to contacts, i only get teh option of windowns contacts or outlook. i saw in some blogs this same drop menu having google contacts as well.
i jsut have a gmail account. does it ieed a google plus account or something? why isn't it appearing in the itunes menu?
i have iphone 4 running ios 6.1.3 and the latest version of itunes.

hi ArtisticGeek
i am more concerned with syncing contacts and calendar (just the same way i sync them now with outlook)
i am refering to the attached picture and the dtop menu in it and wondering why i don't have the same.
reason being that i have a samsung tablet and an iphone and i just want to be able to have the same contact list and calendar notes on both and the only common platform to do that is Google contacts.

• How do i sync my contacts with gmail without using cloud?

I want to sync my contacts to Gmail, but iTunes tells me that I'm already syncing via the cloud, which is impossible because my Gmail account says I have alot more contacts than my phone does. So my question is, how do i sync manually without creating duplicates. Thanks

Im sorry, I left out one important detail:
I went through that a long time ago. My phone has actually synced with google before, it just refuses to do it automatically. So what I was trying to ask: is there a way to manually sync my contact to google..There are two things i suspect might be causing the problem but I dont know how to correct these issues:
1) I have multiple Gmail accounts linked to my phone so maybe there is a priority issue.
2) The cloud is taking priority over gmail, because when i check my iCloud it has all my contacts there.
So, if i just needed a backup somewhere of my contacts in case i lost/replaced my iPhone then the cloud would be just fine. However, I need them backed up in google because Im switching to a Windows phone, and google seems to be the best contact backup to use across multiple branded devices. Everyone loves Google.
An update to my situation:
Windows app store had an app that uses bluetooth to retrieve all my contacts from my iPhone. It worked wonderfully. So any insight from here on out will only benefit others with this problem that happen to read this discussion, because my issue has been resolved. Thanks for your intended help nonetheless.

• IPhonne stopped synching contacts with Outlook

I had somehow synched my outlook contacts with the iPod. After that I deleted all my contacts from Outlook. Then, to take a backup of my iPhone contacts, I added just 1 dummy entry into my Outlook contacts. I am using the latest iTunes and also have updated the SW on the iPhone. I make all the right selections in iTunes to sync iPhone contacts with outlook. When I sync contacts are not synced. Neither the Outlook contacts nor the iPhone contacts are changed.
All I want is to create a backup copy of my iPhone contacts. Is this an impossible task?
Thanks,
Bulent Dervisoglu

It is now 2008 and I assume Apple decided to support the most popular versions of Outlook and I guess if Microslop didn't have significant changes between Outlook 2002 and 2003 - with 2003 released the very next year which is unusual and speaks volumes, Outlook 2002 would also be supported but I venture to say there is a reason.
Nothing special or additional purchase is required with a Mac and rightfully so and I don't blame Apple one bit for not wasting resources to support every Outlook version or Windows version. The minimum system requirements and other requirements is published and easily available before making this purchase.
I think Apple designers need to go for a training session @ Motorola. I had no backup issues with my Motorola Razr using the Motorola Phone Tools SW.
And Motorola designers need to go for a training session or two @ Apple since the Motorola Phone Tools SW is Windows compatible only which I believe requires an additional purchase.
Which Windows version are you running since there might be another option depending on your answer.
