Synching email from MBA to MBP

I'm thinking of getting a MacBook Air for some extensive travelling. My email address is POP3 not IMAP, and when I return from traveling I'd like to get all the emails I've sent and received off the MBA and onto my main computer (MBP). What's the easiest way to do this?

Take a look at Synchronize X Plus or Pro. I am evaluating it this week and find it quite good.
Before you leave, you can transfer your email to the AIR, and in the other direction when you are back. The process is quite fast, just a few minutes.
To efficiently connect the two computers to do the transfer, you may create a wifi network on the MBP (see preferences -> sharing -> internet). That way you have a fast and secure connection.

  • I would like to copy an "Event" from MBA to MBP Retina.  How?

    I took a MB Air on vacation.   Uploaded pictures from several cameras and phones from family & friends.   Edited them in iphoto and created an event.  Now I'm home and would like to view and edit the photos on my MBP Retina, and save them there.   How do I copy this event to the MBP/Retina?  I don't want to merge libraries, just copy the contents of this particular event.   Thanks in advance!

    The only way to move the Event from one Library to another including all the metadata and version history is to use iPhoto Library Manager.

    If you only want to move the photos but don't mond about Faces and version history you can export the images to a folder and the copy that to the other machine and then import them.

  • HT204350 Migrating from MBA to MBP

    Migration assistant is hanging before selecting a backup (my time machine drive), with a note: "Looking for other resource", for nearly 20 minutes now.
    I may try to shut off the wi fi, so there are no other 'resources' to look for.

  • Sent email from my iPhone not synching with my desktop Mac

    I am stumped. When I send email from my iPhone (using my POP account) the email is sent, shows up in my iPhone sent folder but does not show up in the sent folder in the Mail application on my desktop plus the little icon showing that I responded is not there. I guess it is not synching. This is a problem because I often don't recall if I responded to an email from my iPhone and I end up responding again to the email when I see it on my Mac desktop. My synch is working great with contacts and calendars, both push and fetch. I am also receiving emails, push and fetch, just fine. Can anyone offer advice or insight? Thanks!

    I am having the same problem. When I send from my iPhone (old version), the messages are not shown in my send folder on my desktop Mac. They are showing up in MobileMe, however. I have checked settings on my Mac and on the phone and still can't figure out what has happened. This all started with the new syncing system.

  • Synching sent emails from iPhone 4 to Outlook

    I have a netspace email address in Australia and have changed it to an imap incoming mail server address as other discussion topics have indicated you need an imap account to synch emails across all devices. My incoming emails synch no problems but when I send emails from my iPhone 4, they do not appear either on the netspace webmail account or in my outlook. The outgoing server address is mail.iinet.net.au. Similarly, the iPhone 4 does not show the file structure that I have set up on Outlook. I have spoken to Netspace and visited the Apple store and no one has been able to help me.

    After setting your email account on your iPhone to be an IMAP account, you may also want to go into the Account settings and check the folders there. I do not remember if the default folders for inbox, sent items, and trash are all ones that are stored locally on the iPhone, or if it points to the corresponding folders on your server. I seem to recall that the sent messages, and trash needed to be changed if I wanted those to be saved to folders on the server and not local ones in the iPhone.

  • Can not send email from corporate account when out of office

    I have a 3G+wifi ipad, my sending via corp email works when I'm in the office (connected via wifi) but doesn't send when I'm on 3G and other wifi network (my home wifi). When I send from the other locations I can send from yahoo account only. I have tried to change the server port a couple of times but still no luck. Anyone has any idea how solve this problem?

    You have already read my thread. Yesterday was a good day, I got every single email I received on my iPhone and main Mac computer on my iPad.
    I powered the Pad down last night, turned it on this morning and only got 2 of the 4 I was sent during the night, 2 of them being from my US HO but yesterday I got emails from my US HO on my iPad early in the evening.
    I have learnt that ntl world emails cannot be received with 'Push' so that cancels out that being anything to do with it.
    There is only one difference in my settings so don't know if this is making any difference:-
    On my iPad the smtp authentication is MD5 Challenge-Response.
    On my iPhone the authentication is Password, I have tried changing it but it won't let me. Can't think that this is the problem as this is on the Outgoing Server of which I have no problems.
    Another odd thing is that when I got my iPhone last year I synched the account settings through iTunes. I did this 3 weeks ago when I got my iPad. I then unselected synching the accounts in iTunes when the Pad was connected as I wanted to set them up manually. Now I cannot access this part of iTunes for the phone or pad, it's ticked but greyed out and doesn't show any of my 4 accounts.
    One of the main reasons I bought a Pad is to do emails on it as I find the iPhone a little small to use all day. I am gutted that the Pad is not getting all mails and can't trust it.
    Could it be that when I power down it affects the settings as that's the only thing different I did yesterday. I will keep the pad on all day and night but this should not be the problem can it? Don;t want to waste power having it on all evening.

  • Can no longer send email from my accounts but can receive

    I have 5 email accounts set up on my imac. 3 are mine 2 are my partners. I can no longer send emails from my accounts but my partner still can. They all still receive mail but when I attempt to send mail I get:-
    Cannot Send Message Using Server
    Then i'm asked to select a different server from a list. I have tried all but to no avail.
    I first of all deleted my partners sky.com account because it appeared to me that this was maybe overiding all other accounts and it was no longer needed on imac.
    I then deleted one of my accounts - hotmail, to see if i added it again maybe it would work but now I cant even re add the mail account as everytime i go to mail, preferences account to set it up again the initial screen comes up with my partners details including the sky.com username and when i overwrite these and try to install hotmail acount I get told that logging in failed check user name and password is correct. Which they are.
    All used to work fine but now I have these problems, they appeared to have started when my partner set up an icloud account and is synching with this - could this be the cause?
    I can send email from my accounts from iphone still but no longer from imac.

    First,
    I'd run all availiable software updates. After that, I would try removing all of the accounts from "Mail", and then re-adding them. Be aware that if your folders and such are located on your mac, and not on the mail servers, you may risk lose some information (always have a back-up).
    Sometimes, when you have a number of e-mail account there can be server issues abound. I would go into the server lists and make sure that they are set properly. If you see the "use only this server" box, check it for each of them.

    I can't "unsynch" my hotmail emails from my iPhone 4.
    I had this previously set up on my phone so that I only had my main inbox (no subfolders) and if I deleted an email then it only deleted it from my phone, not from the desktop email.
    However, due to having to reset my whole hotmail account today, I had to delete my account from my Iphone and reactivate it, but when I did so it synched everything and now I have all my subfolders etc... and when I delete an email from my phone, it deletes the message from my whole account.
    Does anyone know how to re-set this?

    The only way to do that is to use a mail server with IMAP access, such as iCloud or Gmail. What you have is a POP account, which is the type provided by most ISP's.

    In Gmail if you click the 'cog' button under your username you can choose "Settings" from the drop down menu. From Settings you choose the accounts and import tab and can enter other email addresses. This is useful to me because I have an email address [email protected] and while foobar.com host a server, the is no actual mail server but it can forward emails to aliases on that domain to some other another email address setup by admin.
    When I compose a message in Gmail in the browser I can choose [email protected] or [email protected] as my send address. I almost exclusively use my gmail account through Mac Mail on my MBP as an IMAP account.
    My question is, can I set up Mac mail in some way to send an email from the gmail server but using the alastair@foobar alias(es) as the send address?

  • When I delete an email from my hotmail account in the 'mail' application on my MacBook Pro, it is not deleted from the same 'mail' application on my iPhone 4s which my hotmail account has also been added. I thought my emails were synced over iCloud?

    It is so frustrating because I cannot understand what is wrong. When I add an event to my calender on my iPhone it appears in my calender on my MacBook which is perfect and very convenient. The same thing occurs with reminders; everything syncs perfectly here. However when I delete an email from my MacBook from the 'mail' appliaction it doesn't delete from the same built-in application on my iPhone. This is extremely frustrating as I have to delete the same email twice on two different devices. I'd appreciate any feedback that would help resolve this problem!

    Calendars (and contacts) can "sync" between your MBP and your iPhone through iCloud because they really live on the iCloud servers and the two devices are clients. iCloud can accomplish much the same trick for email messages because the email really resides on iCloud email servers.
    If the email resides on some other server, that server is responsible for whatever syncing will be done. IMAP servers like the iCloud servers are built for such syncing; other mail servers may or may not be. iCloud would not be involved with email other than iCloud email.
    I understand Hotmail has been changing how their email servers are accessed. Check with Hotmail support for any changes you may need to make to keep up.

  • APPLE MAIL is sending emails from wrong address

    This question has probably been asked before, but I haven't been able to find it. Feel free to send me there with a link if it's helpful.
    Here's my plight:
    I use gmail IMAP and manage 2 email accounts through Apple Mail (5.2). One is the domain catch-all email, [email protected], and the other is my main personal account, [email protected] Usually, whichever mailbox I click on is the address from which my mail is sent. But recently, whenever I've sent mail from [email protected], the recipient has been seeing my personal address ([email protected]), rather than the Info address. But the address line still says "Info" and not my name, if that makes sense. Example:
    NORMAL: FirstName LastName "<[email protected]>"; Info "<[email protected]">
    NOW (PROBLEM): Info "<[email protected]>"
    The replies to the mail I sent from Info are then sent to my personal account. I checked the mail preferences and the Info settings are the same as they've always been. It says the name is Info and the address is [email protected] I'm not sure why Apple Mail is suddenly thinking that the Info emails are coming from my personal account. Is this an Apple Mail issue, or a Gmail issue? Help! I don't want people to be receiving emails from my personal account when it should be from the Info account. Do I need to delete the entire Info mailbox from Apple Mail and start all over?

    Agreed.  I had three gmail accounts, 2 business, one personal, but lately all my attempts to send mail from my personal account wound up being sent from Business instead, even after selecting which account to send it from.
    I went into Preferences, Account info, then found all outgoing smtp servers simply called gmail but there were three in the list. It turned out that all my accounts were being directed to one server address.
    If you drop down the Edit SMTP Server list, then select each account under Account Information you can see which server is dedicated to which account. Then you can edit the name of the related gmail server to the related account. So you can have gmail personal, gmail business 1, gmail business 2 etc.
    Once you have the servers renamed (all the same actually but tells mail which account credentials to use), you can then select the appropriate server to match the right account under Preferences>Account Info front page.
    Worked for me.

  • I can no longer receive me emails from my .mac account on my iMac even though I have been able to receive it for the past number of years, I have an iCloud account and it is sending my mail to my phone but not my desktop. What gives...

    I can no longer receive my emails from the icloud to my mac even though it has been doing it fine since I moved to the icloud a number of weeks now. I only get my mail if I log into icloud or I get it on my phone, it is not synching to my iMac. Can someone assist please.

    I tried something similar by adding a new mail account doing the apple id etc but it worked in that it would look for mail but no mail would come even though mail still goes to my phone I was loath to delete my original account just in case the new one did not work as well. So I guess I am a little stuck now.. I hope you can help me to sort it out.

  • How can I delete bulk emails from my iPhone?

    I have an iMac, an iPhone and iPad, all running latest software.  My Mail accounts are with Gmail and Hotmail.  My problem is that I have a huge number of emails on my devices which I cannot delete.  The methods I have read about don't seem to work, everything reappears.  Is this because of synching acroos the devices?  How can I keep my iMac as the main repository for Mail, and from time to time delete all the copies on my devices knowing they wil be safe on my iMac?  I'd really appreciate guidance on this.  Many thanks!

  • 2013, Resources do not synch if from MS Project to SharePoint task list

    SharePoint and Project Professional 2013.  I am synching MS Project with a SharePoint task list.  Tasks synch just fine, but I continually get the synch error "We can't synch resource 'resourcename' to the tasks list because the resource
    does not exist on the SharePoint server.  This resource, and any other resource that doesn't exist in SharePoint, will remain assigned to the tasks in your project plan.".  If I then select one of the tasks in SharePoint, add the same
    resource (same spelling), then the resource gets synched to that and all other tasks in the plan (after I choose to use the SharePoint revisions in the popup window).
    I am connected to Project Server and this happens for both a simple site synch to MS Project as well as if I use Project in visibility mode.  I am posting to this forum because if I can solve the simple synch to SharePoint resources that will solve
    both issues.  We will have lots of PMs managing lots of projects and I would like to be able to synch resources from MS Project if possible.

    I am also getting this issue, but for few resources, I observed that these resources had a special character in their email address / name in active directory.
    When I assign a resource from SharePoint it all works fine as mentioned by you.
    Even I am not able to find a solution for this.
    It would be great if anybody can guide us through this.

  • Email from *one sender* shows up twice (but isn't delivered twice)

    Today the emails from one particular sender started showing up twice in the view pane of Mac Mail. They aren't delivered twice - just show up as though two copies have come in. If I delete one copy then both disappear.
    There is nothing special about this particular sender - she is not a "VIP". We have been corresponding for several weeks without anything odd happening.
    I'm running 10.9.5 on my MBP and use POP accounts in Mail. The account to which she is using to contact me is via my personally-owned domain. I receive hundreds of emails on a daily basis to that email address and have no issues with other senders. She is using her personally-owned domain for email as well.
    Any ideas on what is happening?
    For what it's worth, since upgrading to this OS Google Chrome - particularly when using Facebook or performing Google searches - has slowed dramatically. I'll address that in a separate post but thought it was worth mentioning here in case it's related.

    Alternatively there may have been a syncing issue which left orhpaned entries in the iPods database. Try swiping across the album and deleting both copies, then resyncing.
