Synching Gmail thru Mail on 2 Macs

I can't seem to do it?

Read status works fine; I've been doing this for years with Gmail and IMAP.
Moving items is tricker: Again Gmail is TOTALLY nonstandard with IMAP and they don't actually support folders.  They do support labels, and exporting those labels as folders, but given you can have multiple labels on one email, it means the same email can appear in multiple folders.  You must also configure Gmail on the server side to export specific folders into IMAP.
Note I mentioned Macworld, you can read an article on it here:
http://www.macworld.com/article/1157846/mailgmail.html
They may have one that tells how to do the same with the iPhone; try Googling "gmail imap iphone site:macworld.com" ;-)

  • Syncing Gmail and Mail (iOS and Mac OSX

I receive Gmail through Mail on my iPad, iMac. and MacBook Pro. Opening an email on one device and discarding it has no effect on other devices. The mail will appear there also and wait for me to review and discard all over again. This stopped being fun on the iPad a few thousand emails ago, since there is no gang-delete function. (What was Apple thinking?)
Fortunately, I just learned of the Move button workaround for mass mail extinction. But the underlying problem remains. I'd like Mail to understand if I have already tossed an email downloaded from Gmail onto another Apple device. I want to stay in Mail for all my email management and avoid processing any mail on Google.
My Gmail accounts are set to iMAP, incidentally (the appropriate choice, according to Google, for allowing this kind of syncing).
Is there some setting in Gmail I need to tweak? Or do Google and Apple actually exist in separate and mutually repellant universes?
    TIA

  • How do I transfer gmail e-mails from a Mac to a pc?

How can I transfer e-mails from Mail in Mac to Outlook in a PC that is in a different city?

If all those emails are still on the Google Gmail system, IE they show when you log on to Gmail withb a web browser, then all you have to do is setup IMAP in Outlook and all of them will be downloaded to Outlook in the folder structure that appears on Gmail.

not able to open mail from my mac, gmail repeatedly asking for password. but using same password able to open gmail on safari

okay well they got me to take out some .plist files to see if that would help it didn't. I'm not sure what ones that they deleted for my self maybe someone here would be abel to tell you what ones to take out but didn't work the one that came close to working was this going into keychain and deleting the account(s) then reading them again.
if you are to do this please back up first with Time Machine. You can do this with a usb drive.
Okay so go back to where you had internet accounts and make sure mail is shut. click the - on the account your having problems with then quit system preferences.
Okay so then press cmd and space bar at the same time then type 'keychain access' into the search then click on 'keychain access'
once it is open go to the top of the window and put your email address that you are having problems with.
once you have put in your full email, have a look at what comes up i deleted things in the kind colome with 'internet password' and anything with under name that had smtp.gmail.com or imap.gmail.com so it would look like this, map.gmail.com - internet password.
right click and delete them. make sure not to touch any other files that dont say them things on them.
Once you have done this quit keychain access and then restart the computer, once the computer is restarted go back to system preferences and internet accounts and re-add the account.
Hope this helps. if something is not clear just ask.

  • Can't see some letters from my Gmail box in Mail.app in MAC OS 10.8.5.

Hello, can't see some letters from my Gmail box in Mail.app in MAC OS 10.8.5.

The solution was to remove all versions of Acrobat Pro and reinstall Acrobat Pro XI. I still had the download file in my Time Machine backup. That's a good thing, since the download link from the order listing on the Adobe website under my account would not work.
The problems don't occur with version 11.0.0. I got the work done, now I'm updating to 11.1.0 and will report if they came back.

  • Apple Mail not synching Gmail

I'm running 10.9.4 with no virus software running and for some reason in the last week my gmail stopped synching to my laptop, but it still synchs to my iphone and ipad. I've tried deleting and reloading the account, quiting mail, restarting my computer, etc. nothing seems to work. I know I'm not the only person with this problem does anyone have a solution?
    Thanks.

    Hello Paul.
The thing is, Mail wouldn’t be able to remove your mail from Gmail’s server even if you told it to do so. Gmail POP access doesn’t work like a normal POP mail server would, and one of its idiosyncrasies is precisely that Gmail ignores any requests to delete messages from the server made by a POP client such as Mail.
Your Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings have absolutely no effect on the messages stored on Gmail’s server. What happens to the messages on the server after a POP client has downloaded them is determined by Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP > When messages are accessed with POP setting alone. If your messages are being removed from the server after Mail has downloaded them, it has to be because you’ve configured Gmail (not Mail) that way...

  • Gmail Facebook Mail Comes to my iPhone, But Not My Mac

For a few days now messages from people in a couple Facebook groups (and there are a lot of them) come to my iPhone, but not to my Mac or iPad. And they are all using the same router to get to the internet. And all other mail, before and after these messages gets to all three devices.
Sometimes mail to my Mac (in both the Mail application and using Safari to access gmail) is delayed. I'll be sitting at my Mac with gmail showing I haven't got a message in hours, and notice on my iPhone I've gotten a dozen messages. I'll try to refresh on the Mac and no luck. Then maybe 15 minutes later they'll appear. Don't know whether this is related.

    Hi neil43,
If you are not able to send or receive mail on your MacBook because you are being prompted for a password that is then rejected, I recommend trying steps in this article:
OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3276
Tip: If you see a sheet or dialog that states 'Enter the password for user "email address'", this indicates that the email service provider is having an issue with the password being sent by Mail, or there is an issue with the email account. Contact the email service provider for support. Choose Window > Connection Doctor click "Show Detail" then click "Check Again". The information displayed in the "Show Detail" drawer may include details from the email service provider about what the issue is. Look for headers that start with "[ALERT]".
The article continues on to walk you through using Connection Doctor, and based on the results, how to troubleshoot further.
    Cheers!

  • HT1277 I can not configure my major mail account at Mac Mфail - other accounts such as Hotmail and Gmail are working great. Also, I am using that major account at iPhone and iPad with no problem

hello. I can not configure my major mail account at Mac Mфail - other accounts such as Hotmail and Gmail are working great. Also, I am using that major account at iPhone and iPad with no problem. I had contacted mail provider - we had followed step by step all the settings,, they are correct, and I was suggested to use another mail program. Why, for God's sake I should use different programs for different mail accounts? Anyone, had the same problem?

it says - IMAP - Trying to log into this IMAP account is failed - Verify that username and password are correct
    same for SMTP

  • My gmail is forwarded to my "mail" on my Mac.  I now have over 14000 emails in my "all mail" in gmail on my mac.  When I try to delete them, they keep coming back.  They are not on the gmail server any longer either.

My gmail is forwarded to my Mail on my Mac.  I now have over 14000 emails in the gmail "mailbox" because I can not delete them.  When I do, they just come back.  Frustrated ...

    This is a Gmail issue.
It is not possible to delete something from Gmail over IMAP: Gmail doesn't let you do this.  When you "delete" something from Mail, it "deletes" it from the Mac.  However, if you show the "All Mail" folder, you will see ALL your email in Gmail.
There are 2 solutions to this:
    1)  If you go to your Gmail web account, you can select which Gmail labels are shown over IMAP.  You should disable "All Mail" so you won't see the folder in Mail.
    2)  From the Gmail web interface, you can actually permanently delete emails.  Go ahead and delete them there and they will be gone forever from Gmail, and from Mail.
This is not something Apple can address.  It's how Gmail implements IMAP, which is totally nonstandard.

  • How do I stop sent email from Gmail from appearing in my Mac Mail?

I use my Mac Mail to send my personal emails... However I also use it to monitor my work email. However, when I use my work Gmail account to send multiple messages either on my phone or on my computer through Gmail, whenever I go into mac Mail I have 40+ copies of the emails I sent. I tried to look in the setting if there's something that disables this... Can anyone help? It's so annoying. I send more than 40 emails a day... I don't wanna have to sort through what I sent and what I received in my email. Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Have you clicked the arrowhead to the left of the Inbox?
It reveals each account you've set up with Mail.
Just click on the individual account you want to view, and only those messages will be displayed.
To return to viewing all received messages, click back on Inbox at the top.
Same for Drafts, Sent, Trash, and Junk.

  • Convert Gmail POP to IMAP in Mac Mail

    Hi--
I have been living in the dark ages using Mac "Mail" to get my gmail email as a Pop account. I've set it so that the messages are left on gmail's server as well as being downloaded to my Mac. But now I'd really like to switch over to using gmail and Mail through an IMAP account. I've read lots of potential scenarios as to how to do this, but most people have NOT left their message on gmail's server.
I know I can set up another IMAP account in mail and disable my current POP account. But many people have then said to drag my "On My Mac" folders/mailboxes that I've created over the years to the new IMAP mailbox....my concern is that because gmail's server has all the messages, I will actually be duplicating ALL my mail on both the server and my mac.
So....is there any way to switch my gmail over to IMAP and preserve or recreate my "On My Mac" folder/mailbox system given that all the messages are still on the gmail server.
Thanks for any and all help
    dp

I found this great set of mail AppleScripts:
    http://homepage.mac.com/aamann/Mail_Scripts.html
It includes one script to delete duplicate messages. So if we can't find a way to do this right, then I'll just download all the duplicates then delete them. Of course I don't want to actually do that, lets call this the nuclear option.
So can anyone think of a way to make an IMAP account for my gmail without it downloading all the messages again that I have already downloaded?

  • I don't use my mac email.  I view my webmail thru mail though  Do I still need to move to icloud?

If I am viewing my webmail thru Mail and not using my Mac Mail acct, do I still need to move to iCloud?

iCloud is free providing you require no more than 5 GB of storage, which for a mail account only is more than ample.
You do not actually need to update from OS X 10.5.8 in order to use iCloud for mail only. You could simply migrate from your MobileMe account at Move
If you did wish to update your operating system you would need to purchase a copy of Snow Leopard on disk and install it on your computer, update it to the latest version of Snow Leopard, then purchase lion from the Mac App Store (The Mac App Store is installed when you update to OS X 10.6.8)
Whilst I am aware that you wish to read your mail through a web browser interface, there is no reason that you cannot read iCloud mail from the mail application on OS X 10.5.8.

  • Mail with multiple macs.

Lets say you own 2 macs...
Lets say you have 6 or so email addresses... yahoo, gmail, .mac etc.
How do you get both mac's mail apps and mailboxes to mirror one another? Is this possible?
I don't mean mirror the same keychains and folder structure that synching does. I mean if I send a pdf from 1 mac and then I happen to be using the other mac and I want to find that pdf in my sent mailbox... I can find it! Is this doable? I thought synch would take care of this? I also thought synch would ALSO do this on .mac so I could ultimately have a web based version of my mailboxes and multiple machine based mailboxes ALL seeing the same stuff. Thanks for any help. Maybe I'm missing something?

I've done that but there are a few issues:
    1. When I send an email in Apple Mail on my laptop... when I go to my tower Apple Mail that email does not show up in my sent folder.
    2. Apple Mail retrievs Inbox messages but it doesn't seem to import Sent messages
    3. .mac is totally in the dark with all of this activity and I can't log on at a friends computer and be up to date.
As much as I like Apple Mail it doesn't seem practical UNLESS you only use Mail from 1 computer and you're not dependent on retrieving mail from any other computer. With multiple computers today, multiple email addresses and pda, phones etc it seems like this needs to be nailed so someone can see everything wherever they happen to be.
