Synching gone nuts

I've been synching my iPhone with my new powrbook for a month. Even doen it a few times since upgrading to ML. Then I discovered yesterday that I had no music despite having audio books and podcasts all right. So I checked it and discovered that somehow the music was set not to synch. Why? Then I checked other tabs. The App's tab brought up a window saying that synching the apps would wipte the data from my phone. What was that about? It was treating it as if it had never been synched or something. I thought, what's a person to do. The only app with data was Trip cubby so I had the App send the data via email. Needed to do that anyway. Sooooo then I synched. BIg problem is my Apps are now no longer organized. The Trip Cubby data was not destroyed. But what's up with all these problems?

Apologies for the double post, but it seems the problem has been fixed. Using the Windows installer cleanup...thingy (it has the .exe msicuu, if that helps), and somehow an (all users) 7.0.2 has appeared. How that relates to iTunes 6.5.1 and/or 7.0.4.80, I'm not quite sure. But for some reason, getting rid made the standalone installer work.
Maybe this will work for other people, too? I tried all the deleting all Quicktime-related files ways too, and they never worked for me, so perhaps this will also help people who had the same problem as me.

Safari display has gone nuts

Yesterday my Safari display has gone nuts. Just displays a long list of items on the website....no graphics and the links don't work. Every site is the same.
I did a restart.....I did a shutdown....still the same.
Firefox works fine.
I tried to find a download to reinstall Safari but no luck.
How can I get Safari working again?

Well, I only have one extension: AdBlock. I disable that and now it works fine...everything is loading.
But it used to work fine with adblock enabled. What has changed?
Without Adblock I find Safari difficult to use.

Apple Voice Control Gone Nuts

I thought I had this under control before, but my ipod touch 5 just updated, and now the Voice Control has gone insane. I just have to leave it sitting on a desk, and voice control will pop up, and just do all sorts of random things. The last little bit, it's usually gone straight to shuffle, followed by the random pauses and fast-forwards. And if I shut voice control off (hitting the home button), it doesn't matter, because it pops right back up again. I thought voice control was only supposed to activate if you pressed on the home button long enough, and then shut off when you tap the home button once. Why does it instead randomly keep on coming up like this? Basically, Apple has given me a useless device. I don't understand why this sort of thing doesn't ever get fixed. Or, if I'm doing something wrong, what is it?

If you are using headphones try with no headphones or different headphones.
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Adjustment Layer gone nuts

For some reason I am having savage problems with adjustment layers in premiere. I have a sequence with a few video layers, one of them has a track matte applied, one of them is has an alpha, and a AL on top. At the start of the sequence, an effect applied to the AL causes one of the video layers to not be visible as it track matte stops working. Disabling the effect makes it work again.
In the same sequence, I have a photoJPG.mov video and a AL on the layer above. I am trying to create a simple bloom effect with a fast blur, noise, and procamp. I use keyframes to ramp the effect down at the beginning of the clip. The AL seems to work with fast blur and procamp, but as soon as I apply noise it goes nuts. It disregards noise keyframes all together and has a constant noise applied. Resetting the effect, deleting keyframes, and re-ordering the effects does nothing. Or sometimes adding noise just causes the AL to disregard all the keyframes of the all the effects.
This is super frustrating. Can one of you point me in the right direction?

HELP wirth PhotoSmart 3210 printer gone nuts

This printer was sold to me at a tag sale. Then the lady never cashed my check. THEN she told me if it didn't work, I could give it back to her. Well, I had a few problems in the beginning which I thought I had worked out. Then, last week, colors went nuts on it. An RGB tonal scale of photography's Zone System that was in purple -- with areas of texture in each square -- printed out with some of the squares in a green, almost teal color. The texture was missing from one green square and one purple square that were right next to each other while the remainder had preserved the texture.
I did a diagnostic print and magenta was hardly printing. I fixed that by holding down the OK, Cancel, Color and B/W buttons all at once while powering off the machine, then powering it on again normally. This sends the printer into a 5 or 6 minutes cleaning cycle of some kind. Magenta then printed out normally on the diagnostic sheet. I went to the calibration menu and not one of either of the squares printed normally after restoring factory defaults. Instead, all the squares in the big rectangle printed a shade of light teal while the ones in the bottom square printed out blue shades. Therefore, there was no way to enter any of the letter/number combinations.
I figured it needed servicing, but the Service Locator phone numbers are all redirecting to me to the same, constantly busy, phone number.
Can anyone give me detailed directions on how to correct this problem?

The printheads on the Photosmart 3210 are not removable. From the description of your issue it would appear you may have an issue with the ink tubing that connects the ink supplies to the printhead. In that case your printer would require service.

Synch gone wrong/restore?

after just recently restoring my ipod (because of an unrelated problem) I went to put some songs on my ipod but I didn't realize that it had defaulted back to "synch ipod" so itunes attempted to load on 20gb of music to my 20gb colour/photo ipod (windows computer) all at once. So itunes froze and I got a message in the bottom of my screen from windows saying something like "writing to E drive failed", the ipod started making weird noises. I closed itunes and tried to safely remove the storage device but windows said it couldn't stop the generic volume whatever... So eventually I just unplugged the ipod and now mostly I get the sad ipod icon and occasionally the folder icon. Every once in awhile I can force it into disk mode. but once it's in disk mode and I plug it into my computer it says "do not disconnect" only for about 30 seconds, it doesn't show up in my computer and itunes doesn't open.
Any ideas? (so far no luck getting it into diagnostic mode)

Handbrake gone nuts... or is it me? Help required!

I have completed with great success ripping of small 20min episodes from DVD's but when I tried a full movie I get a message saying "ac3 error". It is bugging me because I must be doing it right to get the 20min episodes to work.
I am setting it to 400kbps, mpeg4, ffmeg, 2 pass encoding, cropped to 320. Selected the English AC3 audio. I have tried it on three films of a well known Sci-Fi Film series. Has Wars in it's title....... so anyone have any help for me? Are those discs the issue?

My CPU Has Gone Nuts

Observing either iStat or Activity Monitor my two CPU windows usually show about the same amount of activity. In iStat this looks like a blue, wave line across the bottom of the squares representing the CPUs. (Core 2 Duo) Usually the windows seem to be pretty much in sync.
There were some Apple updates waiting for me last night, one was a Mac OS X update but I didn't really pay close attention. I installed the three that were there.
This morning when I booted my MacBook I noticed one of the CPU windows was maxed out and the fan was running. The fan never runs when I boot. Then the one CPU window would show the activity go down to nothing and the other CPU window would max out. I've never seen this before.
The CPU temp varies from 65 to 73, doing nothing. I removed all auto launched apps at startup, shut down the computer, then restarted it. No diff.
Any ideas?
BTW, I realize my fan is always running, what I meant was it's not usually working hard enough to hear it.

Uninstalled and reinstalled the latest driver. But that wasn't the problem.
I had sent a print job to the printer the day before, but nothing happened so I assumed it was a wi-fi issue and didn't feel like dealing with it then. No print dialog or error message had come up. Turns out the printer decided it was out of ink even though there is still a little ink left in the cartridge. (At what works out to about $1000.00 a gallon for the stuff I'd like the choice to run it dry) So I guess the driver was saying "Print!" and the printer was saying "No!" and neither displayed an error message or dialog box of any kind. Once the MacBook was restarted the argument would continue.
The most annoying aspect of the whole situation is that it seems to be a bug in that part of Lexmark's software that tells you it's time to replace your ink cartridge. God forbid you should get a few extra pages out of a cartridge.

Time Machine has Gone Nuts

I hope somebody can help with this. I have an aluminum Macbook Pro with a 160 GB internal drive and an external Seagate 300 GB drive. There's about 50 GB of miscellaneous stuff on the external drive alongside a Time Machine backup -- in the same partition.
Lately every backup takes forever -- a half hour or more. And the time is increasing. It seems like soon Time Machine will have to run continuously to back up once an hour. During the backup it churns the drive mercilessly -- the head chatters and chatters throughout the backup. If I select the Backups.backupdb and get info on it, I get the same sounds -- and it takes forever, many minutes, to determine the size of that folder. I usually lose patience before it's finished.
However, the backups seem fine. I can open Time Machine and restore from a backup without problems. In all other ways, the drive seems to be functioning fine. I have no reason to believe it's failing.
So -- could drive fragmentation be the culprit? Do I not have enough free space on the drive? (just 15 GB). Can I degrag the drive with Drive Genius 2? Any other suggestions?

Below are a few more console items from that time period. (I'm downloading Time Machine buddy but I assume it'll show the same stuff.) I have no idea whether any of this is relevant, but they're the only items that seem to imply errors. (Except the one in the previous post "Unable to rebuild path cache")
I should add that the backup this morning took well over an hour, at which point I stopped it. It was backing up roughly one day of changes -- not a whole lot of stuff. If I left it on all the time it would never stop working. And throughout the entire process the disk is making a constant churning noise with the head moving all over the place. Just doing a get info on backups.backupdb creates the same noise.
I've read the D2 section in the TM troubleshooting doc and I'm afraid I don't see anything relevant there. I'd long ago removed the TM disk from Spotlight indexing and I don't run an antivirus ap. I will run disk utility on the disk shortly.
My next step is to give up and switch disks. I've got a new 1.5T that I'm going to partition -- one for TM, one for everything else. And I'll start with a fresh backup. But this old backup has stuff going back nearly a year. If needed, can I unplug the new drive, plug in the old one and go back in time with it?

Help! My optical drive has gone nuts!

I ejected a CD this morning and since then the optical drive has been making eject noises every 30 seconds or so, even though there's nothing in the slot. I tried rebooting the computer but that did nothing. I also tried restarting it and pressing on the trackpad to see if there was another CD stuck in it but nothing came out. Can someone please help?

Hold button gone nuts

Well, I was trying to put my ipod mini on hold this weekend and it won't stay on hold. the lock button stays on for about 20-30 seconds, and then goes off. without me doing anything. I have tried the 5 R's, but this has not solved my problem. It is annoying and won't let me turn off (and keep off) my ipod mini while it's charging. any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

There are numerous businesses out there for iPod repair. Just do a simple Google search for "iPod repairs" and you will receive a plethora of them.
Another alternative solution is to buy the replacement part and repair it yourself. www.ifixit.com has cheap iPod parts as well as detailed step-by-step guides on how to repair it yourself.

My newIpad back camera has gone nuts.

The back camera of my new Ipad worked fine recently. No shocks, or water or other reason, but not it looks as if some kind of effect is on. Very weird. Other cam fine. Shut off all apps, shut down ipad and resterted. Still wonky.

IBook G4 display gone nuts

My Ibook display is failing, or so it seems, the colors change from the slightest touch to the display and will even flash. In this state the system seems frozen, but returns to normal when the display clears. I'm assuming something hardware wise is failing is it the display itself, the video or the video connector? The problem comes and goes but seems to be accuring more frequently.

Seems to be the season for mechanical problems. Seems like your video board has failed. I suggest taking the machine to a nearby Apple Store, or a certified Apple technician.
