Synching has resulted in exclamation marks beside most of my i-tunes songs

After buying some new songs on i-tunes I then synched with my i-phone. There was some problem with the synch so I agreed to some message that mentioned erasing stuff (!!) Since doing that I have most of my songs on my iphone but virtually all the songs in my i-tunes library have an exclamation mark beside them and when I try to play them I get a message saying' the song could not be used because the file cannot be located'.  It gives the option of locating it but when I click on that it takes me to a folder that only has the new songs I purchased today.
I figure I need to get the songs that are on my i-phone back onto my computer i-tunes folder but I'm nervous about doing anything else that may muck things up even more - any advice?

    Hello Pork Chop 2,
Congratulations on your new Mac!  It sounds like your purchased songs are not playing completely after you downloaded them.  I recommend to following steps for an issue like this:
    Symptoms
Occasionally, if a song purchased from the iTunes Store on a Mac or PC was not downloaded completely, the song may not play back fully. The song may abruptly stop during playback, and iTunes may start playing the next song in your library or playlist.
    Resolution
If iTunes in the Cloud is available in your country, try the following steps to resolve the issue:
Delete the purchased song that is exhibiting the problem from your iTunes library.
Click on the Purchased link in the iTunes Store to view your previously purchased music.
Download your previously purchased song from this list.

  • Driver "Intel(R) HM76 Express Chipset LPC Controller - 1E59" has a yellow exclamation mark.

The Driver "Intel(R) HM76 Express Chipset LPC Controller - 1E59"  has a yellow exclamation in Divice Manager. How do I remove it? I just completed clean install of Windows 8 and this driver seems to be for windows 7.

    Hello Filipe.
Did you perform the clean installation of the Windows 8 Operating System in your computer? If yes, perform a complete system recovery using the recovery discs to restore your computer to the factory setting in order to troubleshoot the issue.
Follow all the steps mentioned here to perform the system recovery using the recovery discs: http://esupport.sony.com/docs/pc/SVE14A2_series/EN/contents/04/18/14/14.html#l1_recovering from reco...
Note: It is required to take backup of all the data before performing the system recovery, as it erases everything from the computer.
Note: If my post answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution."

  • Hi people i am so frustrated, i have downloaded 449 songs and when i try to put them on my i pod it gives me only 150 and the rest have exclamation marks beside them ***

    Hi Mark
I have downloaded 449 songs and i can not seem to get them all on my i pod it will only download 150 and the rest all have exclamation marks against them, could this be from my old i pod and how can i get to them

The exclamation mark means the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. This can happen if you or some other software moves, renames or deletes the files. Select an affected file and press CTRL-I to Get Info. Look at the summary tab and the entry near the bottom that says Where: This will start file://... and gives the last known/expected location of the file. The last part of that path will be of the form <filename>.<ext> where the <filename> is typically <track no.> <track name>. Search your computer for the specific filename to see if you can find where the file has been moved to. Ideally just move it back to where iTunes wants it to be. With luck you'll find that a bunch of folders has just been moved to the wrong place and you can move them back as a job lot.

  • LAN on SysTray has a Yellow Exclamation Mark

So I read through most of the articles on this forum about this topic with no luck...tried installing latest drivers, registry settings, oh and my favorite reboot (really), but seriously this is an issue dating backing to Vista with no "REAL"
solution..Microsoft get off your butts and fix the issue...even though I have connectivity it says no Internet Access...which is false, because I do. The problem is it affects our internal SharePoint sites...all the computers with out the issue work fine and
all the ones that do fail...so I am looking for a solution to eliminating the random exclamation mark once and for all...we use the same image on thousands of machine and the issue is random...any thoughts or want to share in the frustration??
    Chris

    Hi,
More information about Yellow Exclamation Mark can be found in this link below:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/networking/archive/2012/12/20/the-network-connection-status-icon.aspx
And the second link explains how system determines the network locaion, if the network profile is incorrectly identified to a public profile, then it might cause problems to access the internal sites such as SharePoint sites.
Network Location Awareness (NLA) and how it relates to Windows Firewall Profiles
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/networking/archive/2010/09/08/network-location-awareness-nla-and-how-it-relates-to-windows-firewall-profiles.aspx
Meanhwile, if you have multiple network adapters\profiles in the system, then I suggest remove unused one if possible, test this issue again.
Temporarily turn off firewall and anti-vius software, test this issue.

Use your remote and under menu, find 'check/fix set top box errors'. (or something like that).
       Good luck!

  • I am getting an exclamation mark when I try to play a song or drag a song

in ITUNES----after I double click to play a song, or try to drag a song to a different playlist,a box pops up telling me that the music could not be found, would you like to search for it? An Apple "expert" from phone support told me to delete all 15,000 songs and another expert didnt have a clue, and yet another one hung up on me. Does anyone have any ideas? I know my music didnt just disappear. Someone please help me. Would be forever indebted to them. Tired of talking to "experts" on the phone. Jeff

Shadow--hey thanks for the reply. No all the songs are in C drive on my computer. I do have an external drive as backup (Sync-Toy) but all my songs are on C. I was thinking of trying to delete ITUNES and Quiktime and reinstall. Do you think that would work? Jeff

  • ITunes has recently began corrupting my music library and my Podcasts. An exclamation mark has appeared at the beginning of a random number of songs and against some Podcasts with the result that they will not play on iTunes. Message is that iTunes cannot

iTunes has recently began corrupting my Music  and some of the Podcasts.  An exclamation mark appears at a random selection of songs - about a thoussanad of them - and they will not play as iTunes says that it cannot locate the file.  This also has happened on a number of Podcasts.  Any one else encountered this?

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, if you are running Windows (you've posted in iTunes for Windows, but your sig mentions Mac OS X...), and as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.

  • I recently removed duplicate songs in iTunes. Now my library has a bunch of songs with exclamation marks by them.  How do I get all my iTunes working again, but remove all the duplicate files?

I had manually deleted a number of duplicate iTunes that I originally have as mp3s.  I want to only have one iTune of each song, but they do need to be working copies.  However now, I have a bunch of iTunes that will not play now and they have an exclamation mark beside them.  How do I get these working again and still only have one copy of them?

I suspect you might have been suffering from logical duplicates. See this  thread for a discussion of the topic. Restore any files that are in your recycle bin, import any disconnected media either by adding the media folder to your library or using a tool such as iTunes Folder Watch. Once the files are back in your libray you can use the methods I outline in that thread or my DeDuper script to tidy up.

  • Can't access songs in iTunes. There are exclamation marks on about half of my library. When I try to play them I get: "Can't find the file" notice and iTunes asks me to locate each song. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

I had not opened my iTunes in weeks. When I opened it today, most of the songs in my library had exclamation marks beside them and when I clicked on them got the message: "the song could not be used because the original file cannot be found", then asks me if I want to locate it. When I press "locate" tab I am led to iTunes folders and have to hunt around for the song. Some songs I can't find in the folders. Any ideas as to why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?
    Help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

The problem of tracks becoming de-linked between iTunes and the music files in your iTunes music folder happens for different reasons - this seems to come up fairly commonly in this forum.
The solution can be to locate each song in the iTunes library, as you mentioned - or, but wait, before I get to that...
trouble finding the original track in your iTunes music folder? maybe look for it under compilations, or if not using the 'group compilations preference' then look in the folder under the songs artist name, but what song artist name iTunes uses depends on what you have in the metedata tag spot for album artist or song artist. Any varyation in artist name spelling, in the menu item 'get info' metadata for any selected individual track will cause iTunes to create that as a separate artist folder in the library, even names like 'various' or any difference at all (even the word 'the' can change where in your iTunes music folder a track gets placed by iTunes). You can try to use the finder function of find file (finder munu item outside of iTunes) to locate hard to find items.
Back to how to re-link any de-linked tracks .
There may be scripts that can help re-link de-linked music files - or, at least provide you a list of such files, Scripts are easy to install and use...
at Dougs Scripts, there is one called iTunes Track CPR that might work
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=itunestrackcpr
or, if you just want a list of de-linked tracks, go to
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/
and find the script called List MIA's, this will create a text file listing all de-linked tracks
if you review the thread at
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3633708
    also the thread at
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17513078#17513078
you may find more insight into dealing with this kind of issue there, although some of that thread may not apply to your case, aspects of it might help.
    Good luck.

  • Ringtones & exclamation mark iTunes 7.7

Some of my purchases can't be played since updating to 7.7. There is an exclamation mark beside them that indicates the song can't be used b/c the original file can't be found (I've not moved the location). Any ideas how to solve that problem?
Also, many songs that were ringtone eligible prior to the update are now not reflecting this possibility in the ringtone column. Regardless, if I right click on a few songs, I can make a ringtone for them. For most songs, it says that the song "can no longer be made into a ringtone." These are recent purchases (within a few months). Is there some sort of time limit for making purchased songs into ringtones or is there something going on with 7.7? Any ideas as to how to fix this?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Songs w/exclamation marks that won't play "file can't be found" Why??

I am getting inundated with more and more songs daily, with exclamation marks beside them, stating "the original file can't be located". It asks if I want to recover the file,I answer yes, but nothing seems to happen! I am a DJ and rely heavily on iTunes and will be extremely disabling for me if I can't get this figured out. Unfortunately, I am not a computer whiz, and would really appreciate all help I could get. I have weddings scheduled for this coming week end and really don't know what to do!
    THANK YOU

It's lengthy, but not too complicated. When you tell it that you want to restore, make sure to show it where to look to find the file. Double click the file and move on to the next exclamation file. One after another, Takes time, but can be fixed. Another problem that continues to make iTunes difficult and lame.
