Synching iPad 2 to a new MacBook Pro, November 2012.

Bought iPad 2 in September 2011 and also installed iTunes on an old PC at that time.
I now wish to 'retire' the PC as soon as I can verify that all important data is safely transferred to my new MB Pro acquired in September 2012.
The PC's iTunes contains a small amount of music, and a lot of 'unlistened' radio program podcasts, which I'd like to transfer to the MBP, if that can be done without having to invest a lot of time becoming technically expert.
How do I get the new MBP to synch with the iPad (a) ignoring the music & podcasts, and (b) after transferring the music and podcasts ?
Does an issue-specific Apple kb article exist ? My searching found only a 'Lifehacker' article which is technically challenging for me !
Thanks in advance.

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPad but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPad with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.
also, there are PhoneView and iRip.

  • HT1296 How can I transfer all my photos from my Ipad Mini to my new MacBook Pro

How can I transfer all my photos from my Ipad Mini to my new MacBook Pro
I am facing problem while I connect to my iPad mini with MacBook Pro , it only sync photo from its taken by and from it camera roll only. It doesn't sync all the images... Like my all albums. All photos in library....

To copy photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.
You should also be able to copy albums that you've created directly on the iPad via apps such as Simple Transfer (though I haven't tried it)

  • Synch music from iPod to new MacBook Pro .. can't find my music in iTunes

    Hello, this is Bryan ....
I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro because my old MacBook was 7 years old. All of my data was saved on external hard drive (time machine) files and apps transferred fine. ... one thing which did transfer to my new computer is my music... Perhaps I don't know how to access iTunes properly ?
I have an iPod which I use with my stereo all the time   ... it has never been synched to the New MacBook Pro.
The iPod has 4,530 songs and some playlists ... I don't want to lose this data.
    Can someone help me ???

  • Syncing ipad and iphone to new macbook pro

I have a pre-intel tower mac that the iphone and ipad are currently synced to.
I want to sync them both now to my new macbook pro. I am unsure about syncing in general as I haven't done it myself yet.
I'm a little worried about loosing data, and wondering what happens to the old tower they are currently synced with.. can I not longer sync them to it once they are synced to the MAcbook pro?
    any tips will be helpful.

Connect to the MacBook. It will ask you if you want to sync with the MacBook. It should then ask if you want to save what is on the iPad. Tell it yes, and it should do so. You should have your iPad apps backed up anyway, but I am pretty sure that you do not lose anything by transferring to another machine. The iPad does not care if it was a Mac or PC that it is synced with, it is not in either format. You do need to go and authorize your Macbook on your iTunes account.
Besides there is a step by step instruction on [How to transfer or sync iPad contents to Mac|http://www.softwarebbs.com/wiki/Howto_transfer_or_sync_iPad_contents_toMac].
Hope it can do you a favor.

  • I have a new MacBook Pro Mid 2012 and it goes into deep sleep when I disconnect if from AC power.

I have a new 13" MacBook Pro mid 2012 and it goes into deep sleep when it is disconnected from AC power.  I have to press the power button to wake it up.  Is this a known issue or is there something wrong with the MacBook Pro?

There are a few threads about this around. Its a known issue for 2012 non retina users, not sure about Apple. It should not work this way and Apple has not put out an update to fix it yet. Check out these threads for some workarounds. I think I saw if you reinstall and don't update one of the updates you get normal functionality back. Otherwise there are some terminal changes you can make to make it operate mostly normally. I made some changes in terminal.

  • Any known ID CS5.5 issues with new MacBook Pro (mid 2012)?

    ID CS 5.5 Version 7.5.3
    Mac OS X Version 10.7.4
MacBook Pro 13 in (mid 2012)
    ID crashes while deleting pages.
No such issues with my previous MacBook Pro (mid 2009) or a 27 in IMAC (mid 2010). Same software versions. Any ideas?

Yeah, I was kinda worried since it is new. I thought maybe I could somehow adjust the brightness on the screen to make the bottom and corners brighter. And perhaps it was a software issue that was causing the keyboard to malfunction. And definitely have no clue about the headphone jack noises. And the bent display. Hmmm. I guess I will call AppleCare.

  • No low battery warning on new Macbook Pro (Mid 2012)

    Hello!
I just purchased my macbook pro this saturday and it's my first mac. I've noticed that I do not receive a low battery warning at all. What can I do about this?

Thanks for the battery info, but the steps for calibrating the battery don't apply to current laptop models.

Current Apple portable computer batteries are pre-calibrated and do not require the calibration procedure outlined in this article.

  • My puppy got water all on my NEW macbook pro

So basically, I had my new macbook pro (mid 2012) for only about an hour when my puppy decided to jump on the table and got my laptop all wet. This was last night. She had just gone in her kiddie pool so it's just water, not chlorinated. My first concern was the screen since I already have another macbook pro with a cracked screen. The screen was wet. She stomped on the left side of keyboard with her wet paws too. I'm not too sure if a lot of water went inside because at this time I was concerned about the water on the right speaker. It took me about a minute or two to wipe it all off. I then tested out the speakers by playing music. It was fine from what I can hear... I didn't really get to use the speakers beforehand so I don't know what to compare it too. I also tested out the keyboard and everything seemed to work. I had the macbook still running searching for what to do with the water. Come to find out I should have turned it off immediately.
So the macbook was still running fine. I turned it off to take the battery off, but I didn't have a twi-wing screwdriver. I ordered a whole tool kit from ifixit and it's suppose to come in tomorrow.
I did flip the macbook upside down. And I am planning on taking it apart when my kit comes in to see what is going on. If the LSI is red. Is the LSI built in the macbook, or are they stickers? And can they be purchased somewhere?
Anyway, do you guys think my macbook is fine? Or is corrosion gonna happen? Or if it's running fine now, will it last?
I would just take this macbook back and say I changed my mind, but it's customized and I read that you can't return customized macbooks. UUUUGH!
    What should I do?

Take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP for a proper diagnoses.  Whichever is more convenient for you.
Liquid damage is not covered under Apple's standard 1 year warranty or Apple Care.
Apple does have a no questions asked 14 days from the date of purchase return policy.
NOTE:  If you purchased the computer with a credit card, discuss the warranty issue with the credit card company which you purchased the computer with.   They are the only ones who can at this point cover the computer after it goes out of warranty with the manufacturer (Apple).
If you have Homeowners insurance, place a claim with them.
    DIY Instructions
Immediately disconnect all peripherals, power cord & remove the battery.  Turn the computer over with the lid partly open and the hinge facing upward to let the liquid drain.  Do not flop it over and lay it flat - you want to separate it from the moisture.  Place paper or cloth towels under the machine to sop up the mess.
After the computer disgorges whatever you spilled on it, don't turn it on for 72 hours or longer.  You want to computer to dry out completely before turning it on again.
Some users here swear by hairdryers.  Blow drying the innards may bake whatever was in the liquid onto delicate computer components.  Better to let the computer air dry.
Use plain tepid water to clean out the computer.  If you spilled iced beverage more than likely this ice fried the hot motherboard.
Sugary, acidic or milky drinks will almost always cause problems later on as the residue starts slowly corroding the computer innards.
Swab down any sticky parts with distilled water or denatured alcohol.
If none of the above works, you will need to take the computer to a repair shop.  Apple Care does not cover liquid or food damage.  Believe me, they can tell.  So the old "my computer stopped working" line is not going to work.

  • New Macbook Pro 2012 Battery health.

Hi all, hope you can give me some advice.
I purchased a New Macbook Pro 13" (2012 model) 3 weeks ago. It has now had 11 charge cycles and the battery health has dropped to 86%. I have gone through the calibration process, reset smc/pram but sitll seems to be dropping.
Is this normal, should i return it to apple and have the machine swapped, should i just leave it and if it gets worse get it repaired under apple care.
Intrestingly, Battery health states the battery is 9.3 months old, from the serial number of the mac I understand that that mac was made in 3rd week of october, I just wonder if that battery has been stood arround semi-charged for 9 months and this has damaged it.
Any help would be great, thanks
    Paul

I would make an appointment at your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them test the battery. My battery 'life' is right on the manufacturing week of my computer. Something's up with the battery - since you're still under warranty have it checked out now.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • OS X MAVERICKS on Macbook Pro, Mid 2012 4GB?

I am running a new Macbook Pro, Mid 2012, 4 GB and the App store said my computer was eligible to get OS X Mavericks.
My question is, how is almost 6 GB of a system going to fit into a 4 GB Macbook Pro.
    To upgrade or not? Help!

I upgraded mine to maveriks and am having many issues with it, I recomend not doing it till some issues have been fixed. There are problems with sound, scrolling with the trackpad, using usbs, keychain logs and the list goes on. I can't downgrade either. I'm so frustrated the fixes on various forums about these issues only seem to work temporarly

  • My iPad 3 is not charging on my macbook pro mid-2012. It was working yesterday and it is not working now, and I'm trying to transfer files between them. How do I charge my iPad with my macbook without having to be a completely new computer?

I am trying to transfer files between my ipad 3 and my macbook pro mid-2012 and they will just not connect. I connected them yesterday and it worked fine. And i can not air drop these files into my ipad it has to be done through itunes. And i can not afford to buy a new computer. How do i get these two to connect without having to buy a completely new computer?

Computer USB ports, regardless of the computer maker, have a relatively low power output and thus are not good chargers. They will charge but it takes a long time. You should be charging your iPad from wall power, or a more powerful source like an in-car charger.
Buying another computer will not change that.

  • When I synch my iPod w. new MacBook Pro, laptop doesn't show which podcasts I've already listened to on the iPod.  (My old MacBook did do that.)

I used to download new podcasts to my old MacBook, plug in my iPod, click the Synch button, and not only did the new podcasts get copied from the laptop to the iPod, but iTunes on my laptop would show which podcasts I'd already listened to, so it was easy to delete the old stuff, synch again, and the old podcasts would be gone from both the laptop and the iPod.
When I try to do the same thing with my new MacBook Pro (which I set up using  the Migration Assistant to copy apps, including iTunes, from my old laptop), that doesn't happen:  When I download a new podcast, plug in my iPod, and hit Synch, the new podcast isn't copied, nor does iTunes show which podcasts I've listened to since the iPod was plugged in the last time.
What used to be quick and easy is now cumberson and, because it's hard to remember which podcasts I've listed to and which I havened, error-prone!
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The installer DMG will be in the Applications folder
I haven't tested this, but it seems somewhat at odds with this recent MacWorld article, which gives a method for "capturing" the Lion installer downloaded via the Recovery HD, and then creating a bootable installer volume from it.
Create a bootable Lion install drive for newer Macs
The article is meant for Macs that came pre-installed with Lion and therefore can't use the App store. The article describes a procedure to retrieve the Lion download not from /Applications but from a folder named "Mac OS X Install Data" which gets created at the root of the drive where Lion is to be installed. It's tricky, because normally that installer self-launches immediately after the download, and then deletes itself afterwards.
They distinguish this procedure from an earlier, simpler one that can be used if Lion gets downloaded via the App store - they reference an earlier article for that situation, which does involve retrieving the installer from /Applications. That method has been publicized in many places.
The inference for me was  that the Recovery HD does not download anything to /Applications - otherwise the earlier procedure would work, and this new article would be unnecessary.  As I said, thoiugh, I haven't tested anything.

  • I had an old macbook so icloud was set up only with my iphone and ipad. Now I have a new macbook pro but can't synchronise icloud with it. It ask me to create a new account.

    Hi,
I had an old macbook, too old to put it on icloud. So when I created my icloud account, I did it with my iphone and my ipad. Now I bought a new macbook pro.I wanted to synchronise it to my icloud account but it tell me that this account is with someone and that I have to create a new one. Seems like it does not recognised my account.
    What should I do?

Let me see if I've gotten this right! You want to remove an account from BOTH machines? Do this for your new machine first, then for the other.
Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen, System Preferences, Users and Groups (under Systems), unlock the lock in the window if its locked (you need to know the password), select the user that you wish to remove, and click the - sign next to the + sign for Login options. A window will pop up with some options. Select Delete this user and securely, and click 'Delete user'.
After this, do an update from the App Store.
Thats all there is to it.
For the other machine repeat the process except for one thing. Before you delete the user in this case YOU, you will have to give Administrator priviledges to your son bu checking the box 'Allow user to administer this computer'.
Do NOT do anything from Finder ... if you dont know how to fix the consequences of the problems caused.
There is no need to unauthorize your iTunes account on your new machine. Do it on the old machine though.
