Synching ipod incl playlists despite insufficient memory

My iTunes library holds more songs than my ipod can. That was never a problem on my old computer, when I synched the iPod I simply got a selection of songs and all playlists synched as well. With my new computer this seems to be different though. I get an error message that my iPod does not have enough room and that I can either sync manually or let iTunes create the "iPod selection" playlist for me. That's fine, just that i'm missing my playlists. Is this a new thing, or do I need to un-select 6,000 songs in the library in order to have enough room for a playlist when I sync my iPod automatically?

It has nothing to do with having "enough room" for playlists. The playlist itself does not take any significant space.
On the Music tab in the iPod's pane in iTunes, you are either syncing +All songs and playlists+ or +Selected playlists+. If you let iTunes create a playlist for you with a subset of all your songs, that is just a regular playlist. Since that is now the only playlist selected to sync to on the Music tab, that is the only playlist that will appear on the iPod.
All you need to do is uncheck (in the Music tab) the special playlist iTunes created. You can even delete that playlist from the iTunes sidebar. Then, check all the playlists you want on the iPod (in the Music tab). Now sync it. Unless you have some really extensive playlists, the total number of unique songs on those playlists you created should be well below the capacity of the iPod. If you want to fill up the rest of the space with songs, make one more playlist called "More Songs" (or whatever you want to call it) and put other songs on it that are not on your other playlist, until you have used the remaining space on the iPod.

  • Synching iPod with playlists

I have a playlist with duplicate songs listed. I purposely did it this way. When I sync with my iPod it just creates one instance of the song. How can I get it so that all instances of songs get synched.
    Thanks.

Playlists don't contain any songs at all. They are simply pointers to the song file.
You don't need the song on the iPod twice. If you have it twice in a playlist and play that list, it will play the song twice.
If you make one playlist with the same song 100 times and sync only that playlist, you will only have that song 1 time on the iPod.

  • Why is my ipod touch saying there is insufficient memory to take a picture or download a new app, even after I have deleted lots of pictures and apps?

My ipod touch memory doesn't seem to be working correctly.  I tried to take a photo and it said there was insufficient memory.  I deleted all my pictures but it still said the same.  I cannot take pictures or download any apps or the latest systme update despite having now deleted several apps and all my photos.

    - Try a reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and sync
    - Next, click on the iPod under Devices in iTunes. How much storage is used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargraph? How much is used by "other".
    - Sometimes when you delete items and do other things files get put in the "other"category and use up storage. If the "other" is >0.75 GB or so then restore the iPod.

  • Since downloading 11.0.1 (12), Itunes can't locate or play many songs but the same songs still play on my synched iPod.

Since downloading Itunes 11.0.1 (12), Itunes can't locate or play many songs but the same songs still play on my synched iPod. I have a MacBook Air, Lion OS, Itunes version 11.0.1 (12).  I didn't see this problem with older versions of Itunes.  I do not manually change the organization of the Itunes library.  I use the Itunes "add to library" feature or Amazon's MP3 downloader.  Sometimes, however, I have changed song information in the "info" window.  Such as unchecking the "compilation" button and sorting by artist (for that song), so that I can search by artist in the top pane of Itunes (otherwise the song is sorted in an album that is a "compilation," but not under the name of the artist who sang a particular song.  I've done this without problem in the past, but perhaps the newer version of Itunes can't handle the changes I made and has lost track of where the older version of Itunes stored such songs?    How do I fix all these older previously ok changes if that's the case...  If I could just find where they are stored in Itunes it would be easier perhaps.  I've looked in compilations, unknown artist, and so forth to no avail.  And Finder search can't find them.
Details: suddenly, many songs are marked with "!," denoting that Itunes cannot find the songs in the library and cannot play them. Oddly, my iPod CAN play the "unlocatable" songs with no problem (it has been synched "post problem").  So the songs are still there somewhere in the Itunes library.  This problem occurs by album, that is, all songs from the same album become unlocatable, although different albums by the same artist may still be found and played.
Exploring the Itunes library to try to locate the missing albums/songs, I discovered that generally there is no longer any folder specified for any artist associated with a missing album [artist is the top level of organization and album is the second; compilations are in the same folder]. This is true even if I have other albums from the same artist which Itunes IS able to locate.  I cannot find a single song/album by such artists anywhere in the Itunes file system, even the ones that Itunes can still play.  If I right click and "get info" for an unlocatable song, I get a notification box that asks if I want to locate the file.  If I click "no," next thing-- the info window for the song pops up, with all the correct info (including sort info, which I double check)!  Why is Itunes able to locate all the info on the song, but is not able to play the MP3 file?
Using Finder I cannot locate the songs that are unlocatable by Itunes (except the original download files in the Amazon MP3 folder).  Finder is, of course, able to find Itunes songs that Itunes has no trouble locating.  What's up?!  My iPod can find them just fine.  I just synched my iPod again and am playing the "unlocatable" songs right now.
I can "fix" most of these files by downloading files one by one into Itunes from my Amazon download folder or from my CDs using the "add to library" feature. In fact, it is strange.  But this will take a very long time!  And what if this problem continues recurring?   But something strange happens when I implement this fix.  I added one song to Itunes (from the Amazon MP3 folder, using "add to library") for one "unlocatable" album of Pete Seegers. After adding that one song, I looked at the Itunes music library and discovered that a folder for Pete Seeger (which was not there before I added the song) had been newly created, or restored.  In this folder was the one song I had just added, but ALSO all my other Seeger albums that had previously remained "locatable" by Itunes.  But the other "unlocatable" songs were not restored, unfortunately.

I have found a workaround. When I create a new playlist, iTunes allows me to add or remove songs from existing playlists for a short while. Then, for some reason it prevents me from adding and deleting songs again. Not sure why. Go figure.

  • Restore towards 6310i : error insufficient memory

    Hi,
I just downloaded the latest PC Suite last week in order to make a backup of my 6310i. I made the backup op phone+card and got no errors at all.
Now I try to restore the backup to the same phone, and I get the error "insufficient memory".
So I cleaned out everything that is present on the phone: SMS, names, etc. it is completely empty now. Restore to the same phone, result: "error insufficient memory".
Help! How can I make a restore? Or is the software only meant to make backups?
    Thx for any suggestions.

    Your iPod has approximately 120 x 1000 x 1000 x 1000 bytes unformatted capacity.
    This is equivalent to 111 x 1024 x1024 x 1024 bytes.
    120Gb10 = 111Gb2
Both numbers are valid descriptions of the capacity of the device, marketing uses the larger number, the IT industry generally uses the smaller one
See this thread for one of many earlier discussions on the same topic.
If iTunes is telling you your iPod is full then it is. Take some stuff off if you want to put some other stuff on. If you have more than about 2% of "Other" then it probably needs a full restore to reclaim space lost to orphaned files.

  • Data Federator:  Insufficient memory : Operator 'HashJoin' cannot execute

    Hi,
I'm using: SAP BusinessObjects Data Federator Designer XI 3.0 Service Pack 3 - 12.3.0.0 (Build 1011241842)
I have a virtual view on top of sql server 2007 and teradata.  I am using a view on sql server 2007 that joins against several tables and querying a single table from Teradata.
When I try to query the view I get the error:  [Data Federator Driver] [Server] Insufficient memory : Operator 'HashJoin' cannot execute because it cannot allocate the minimal number of memory pages. Please contact the system administrator to change system parameter settings. (0)
This happens when I try to query the view from data federator or from an odbc connection.
I tried playing with the configuration settings for core.queryEngine.hash.maxPartitions  and
core.queryEngine.hashJoin.nbPartitions  and nothing seemed to work in terms of changing/increasing the numbers.  The help guide also gave no help:  http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexi3SP3/en/xi3_sp3_df_userguide_en.pdf
I was using a very similiar query against a materialized view on Oracle and Teradata before and that worked.  But I'd prefer not to have to materialize the view in Sql Server.
Any thoughts as to how this can be fixed?
    Thanks,
    Kerby

  • Why do I get "Insufficient memory to continue the execution of the program" in SQL Service Report Services

    Hi fellas,
I'm facing some serious issues with SSRS. I've tried to create a map report in SQL server reporting service 2008R2. I've insert a map using ESRI shapefile and connected it to my Dataset. Everything seemed to be fine up until I've tried to preview the results
    and I got this:
I've tried to resolve the problem by increasing the "MaximumTotalPc", but then I got this:
Ever since this happened my SSRS is acting like it has gotten a virus. I've tried to delete the report, but it doesn't let me and the window I've posted above keeps on popping up every few seconds while the program is open.
Any idea why do I get it and how can I deal with it?
P.S. I'm not any kind of developer and I'm not really familiar with the technical language. I need an explanation written in user friendly language, please :-)

    Hi Ellie55,
According to your description that you are experiencing the issue when you are creating the ESRI shapefile map on the SSRS 2008 R2, you got some error “the number of map point elements for “Map1” exceeds the maximum limits for map” when you click  to
preview the map, you trying to set the properties of “MaximumTotalPointCount” to fix this issue but cause another error about the “insufficient memory”, right?
By default, a map can have 20,000 map elements or 1,000,000 points. If your map exceeds these limits, you can increase the MaximumTotalPointCount and the MaximumSpatialElementCount, but it may cause the insufficient memory because of the too much points
and elements. So I recommend you that you can use one of the following approaches for you have got problem increase the limitations:
    Remove a layer.
    Decrease the map resolution.
Decrease the map viewport coordinates to view a smaller area.
If the spatial data comes from a report dataset, set a filter to limit the data from the dataset. The filter must be set on a field that is not a spatial data type.
If the spatial data comes from a SQL Server database, change the query to use spatial functions to limit the data to a smaller area.

As you this error also caused you can’t delete the report, please try to close the program in the task manager and find the path of project in your computer to delete the .rdl file in your workspace and redesign the map again.
Any problem, please feel free to ask

    Hi,
loading a 37MB file shouldnt be a problem without splitting it. i´ve loaded GB size flatfiles without problems.
Did you checked the error.txt as stated in the message? Whats in there.
If you split the file and you can load it, you have enough space in your DB.
Please check the memory utilization of your server during executing the job with one file. Maybe the Server is too busy...what would be strange with a 37MB file.

I upgraded my iBook G4 from 384MBytes to 640Mbytes and upgraded from Tiger to Leopard.
After a few weeks the HDD failed. I bought a new disk, installed it and trued to install Leopard, but the  install fails reporting "insufficient memory".
I assume the installation requires more memory than the OS actually needs to be able to run.
I need Tiger install CD/DVD so I can install Tiger first and then upgrade to Leopard.

Call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775, provide the Serial Number and specifications of the Mac, and for a reasonable fee, they will supply a replacement set of system discs (if available).
The discs will be for the original version of the OS that was pre-installed when the Mac was manufactured.
You need much more RAM than that.

  • I deleted my "iPod Slection" playlist and now my iPod won't update.

I don't know exactly how it happened but the songs on my original "iPod Selection" playlist got messed up and so iTunes automatically created another "iPod Selection Playlist" and I didn't want the songs it put in that playlist on my iPod so I deleted it. But now my iPod won't update because it says "your iPod cannot be updated because all the playlists selected for updating no longer exist." If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Seems like you've got auto sync with your iPod and it is looking for a specifically named playlist.
    Check your preferences.
Create a new playlist and sync that.

  • My iPod touch playlists only show up on iTunes under devices and not on the iTouch itself.  On iTunes, I cannot play my songs from the iTouch on iTunes.  Any ideas?

Suddenly in the last 10 days, my iPod Touch playlists don't show up on the iPod unless plugged into iTunes and only under the device section of iTunes. When I try to play a song on my iPod a different song from the library comes up and plays.  Lastly, when I try to play the songs in the iPod library on iTunes when plugged into the computer, an exclamation mark appears to the left of the song title and will not play.  Any ideas?

For someone experiencing a similar problem this answer is unacceptable. You're basically telling me to reboot the server to fix this.  You vaguely mention using process explorer to find out who is using the file.  Can you please provide
some more information on that?  I have a similar problem and rebooting the server to fix it is not an option.  This problem keeps reoccurring.
OS Error 32 means file has an open handle by someone else. If that is a user process then you can catch it via Process Explorer. If it's a kernel mode object then it's difficult to catch that and restart is the only choice.
