Synching issues on new computer

I am using a new computer for itunes and it's not synching my recent downloads to my ipod.  Also content on my ipod is greyed out and can't be deleted. Any idea what s going on?

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.

IMO - and we are all entitled to our own opinions - I prefer to use iTunes. Heaven forbid if Apples servers ever go down - there will be mass hysteria and I have seen too many cases of "I just tried to restore from my iCloud backup and it have 8 gazillion app icons on the screen that say "waiting" - but once again - this is only my opinion.
And if you lose your Internet connection in the middle of an iCloud restore - what then? Nobody thinks of that kind of stuff - but hey - that's what makes this whole exchange of ideas so wonderful. We can all express our own opinions  .... but that does not help you solve your situation.
What exactly is happening when you try to sync with iTunes? Maybe somebody can offer help instead of just useless opinions that do nothing to resolve your situation.

  • Need help re-synching iPods with new computer and getting iTunes to...

Need help re-synching iPods with new computer and getting iTunes to recognize our iPods (it doesn't even recognize them when they're plugged in).
Hubby wiped my harddrive for me, so now I need to get everything back in proper places. I'm using windows XP and installed iTunes once again (I believe it's version 8). I also installed all of my iTunes songs. Now I need to know where to go from here. We have 3 iPods and I need to get them all synched once again. I know how to create different libraries for each of us, but I can't figure out how to get our songs back into our iTunes libraries. When I open iTunes and plug in an iPod, iTunes doesn't even show that an iPod is plugged in.
What do I do now to get each of our iPods synched with our own libraries?
    TIA
    Brandy

Thanks Zevoneer. The "Restart ipod service" worked and itunes is now recognizing my ipod! Hooray!
Okay, now how do I synch all of our ipods with our individual libraries (I don't want all of my kids' songs and vice versa)? We each have hundreds of songs on our ipods that we don't want to lose.
    Thanks again!

  • Album art synching incorrectly on new computer

I recently moved my iTunes library to a new computer. After some initial issues, I had iTunes loaded to my satisfaction. By this I mean that all of my songs were there, and most of my album covers were there (some were there after reloading the library, and others were there after using the menu option to "get album artwork"). I have now been in and out of iTunes several times, and the artwork there looks good. I then synched to my device (the first one I tried was my iPhone 4S). When synching for the first time, since this was a new computer for the device, iTunes asked me if I wanted to replace the tunes based on the contents of the new iTunes library location, and I responded in the affirmative. The synch worked in terms of all of the requested music being there and associated with the correct albums and playlists, but the associated art work was all over the place - some was correct and some was incorrect. There was no logic to what artwork was associated with what album. I then resynched, and a couple of albums corrected but not many. I then tried the same process with my iPad, and the results were similar (interestingly, the associations were different, i.e. different artwork was associated with the albums). Again, some albums were correct and others weren't. The information on iTunes is still correct (right art with every album).
How can I correct this? I want to get it correct before synching with other devices (my iTouch and my old "master" iPod -- an 80 gig model which has all of my tunes which is now relegated to being a master backup device).
    Thanks for any solutions/suggestions, etc.

  • Synching ipod with new computer and lost music

We just got a new computer and I finally got to hook up my ipod. I tried moving my songs from the ipod into itunes and they wouldn't transfer so now I am synching the ipod with the computer; however, I seem to have lost the original songs that I had on my ipod before I downloaded the new songs. Did I really lose my songs or are they there? If they are there, how do I find them?

If you syncronised your iPod with a new and different library it will have erased your original songs. You could have a look at this post for possible solutions but there's no real guarantee you'll get anything back: Buegie - Recovering Songs

  • HT1351 now synch to my new computer. any suggestions as to what I do now? thanks

I synched my nano to an old computer which died on me. how do i now synch it to my new computer. thanks
PS haven't a clue what my original apple id. just created a new one .

The right way to transfer your music library is to transfer it from the old computer to the new one. If the old computer "died" then the right way is to restore your content from a backup.
Your computer backs up your Nano, not the other way around.
PS haven't a clue what my original apple id. just created a new one .
That's a problem. If you purchased music with another Apple ID you will lose all of it unless you can recover the ID.
Use https://iforgot.apple.com/ and click the link "Forgot your Apple ID?"
Unfortunately even this will not help if you do not have an email address associated with that ID that you can still access.

  • I want my iPod to synch with my new computer and it won't

    Hello,
Hoping that someone could help me. My computer recently caught a virus and I was not able to back up my hard drive. I lost ALL of my information including all of my songs on my library. Now that I have a new computer, I want to put all of the songs on my iPod into the new library but I get a message that reads something like this "your ipod belongs to a different library, would you like to erase your ipod to match this library" I of course said no because then I would end up with zero songs. Has anyone else had this issue before?
    Thank you,
    Sandra

    Music from iPod to computer.
There's also another method. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), there's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
The above methods may depend on what version of iTunes you are running.
If none of these methods work, try CopyPod which also supports the transfer of videos from iPod to computer.

  • Synching podcasts to new computer

I just got a new computer and am transferring music and photos to the new computer and want to use this one as the computer to synch my video Ipod to. But I want to take all of my saved Podcasts from the old computer to the new one and not lose them off the ipod. Is there a way to do this? I tried to connect to the new computer and lost all of the podcasts, but recovered them when I resynched to the old computer.
    Thanks!

I haven't tried it yet, but this looks like the answer

  • My iPod won't synch on my new computer

I got a new computer and transferred my music and iTunes to the new computer. Now, when I plug in my iPod Nano and/or iPod mini to my new computer, I get an error message that says "The iPod cannot be synched. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
Does anyone know how to resolve this problem??

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
This is the iPod touch - connect to Mac discussion area. As you have neither a touch or a Mac, you might want to consider posting in one of the more appropriate areas in the future.
As to your specific problem, you need to Administrator access in Windows XP to make this work. I'm not sure how your account is setup in XP, but it needs to be changed to allow Admin access.

  • Problem synching iPod on new computer

I set up iTunes on a new computer and set up all the podcasts I want to hear on my iPod.  I attached my iPod touch to synch.  The computer gave me a message saying I had attached the iPod to a new computer and did I want to sync.  I responded yes.  It said it was synching, but none of the new podcasts got loaded on the iPod.  What should I do?

Is your iPod configured to sync podcasts from under your iPod's podcasts tab? To check, plug your iPod in and click on its name from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes.  This will bring you to the iPod's Summary tab. Locate the Podcasts configuration tab along the top and select it.  Is there a tick mark next to Sync Podcasts?  If so, what options do you have enabled/selected below that?

  • Synch 755 on new computer

Purchased a new computer (Windows Vista) and downloaded the software off the Palm website.  But when I tried to synch my phone, the program asked me for a password and I have no idea what password it is asking me for.  I don't have a password on my phone and I tried the password for the computer (when it initially boots up).  Any ideas what password the program is asking me for?
Called Sprint and they had no idea.
    Thanks.
Post relates to: Treo 755p (Sprint)

To copy an iTunes library from an old computer to a new one FIRST make sure iTunes is not running, then copy the iTunes folder (in My Music on XP) or a backup of it to the Music folder on the new computer. You need the whole iTunes folder, as the database that indexes playlists is the "iTunes Library" file in the iTunes folder.
Then you launch iTunes. It should see the library and all of your playlists if you copied the right folder and put it in the right place (I know, I just did this a week ago, and I was moving from XP to OS X). Then authorize the new computer to the SAME iTunes store account as the old computer and the iPhone.
Now you can sync and it should not erase anything. You will have to reconfirm your iTunes Store profile to verify that it is really you on the new computer.
If something goes wrong you can redownload apps without paying again, as long as it is the same iTunes store account.

  • Continued "Trial" and "License this program" issue on "new" computer...

I downloaded Adobe Acrobat XI Pro on my new computer from the Files on my old Computer. I do not have access to my old computer anymore. The 'Help' on my new computer is showing 'Deactivation' as a 'gray' option. I have a serial number (registered on the Adobe site) that when entered (Since it keeps telling me this is a trial version) tells me to contact Customer Support. On the Registration Page on Adobe it states this number is Registered to Adobe 9 (yet Adobe XI Pro was working on my old computer). I have no problem downloading Adobe 9 on my new computer...if it will work, but cannot find the files for download (and do not have my old computer...which only had Adobe Acrobat XI Pro). Suggestions? Just want my Adobe Acrobat Pro to work again...Thanks in advance for any assistance...

uninstall acrobat xi and clean, Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs
then reinstall the version of acrobat for which you have a serial number.

  • Had an old ipod with all my songs on some years ago now says i cannot synch with my new computer and new apple account do not want to lose all my songs how do i get them on my new comp pl

Hi had old ipod with old large library on have lost my old itunes account so opened a new one but i cannot get my library onto my new comp help!! pl

The music you purchased with the old iTunes account is tied to that account.  You need to obtain the ID and password for that account.  The following provides instructions.
Frequently Asked Questions About Apple ID
Once you get the accountinoformation you can transfer the the iTunes purchased stuff to the new computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
If you are the USA and have the latest iTunes you shuld be able to redownload them with these instructions.  Again, you need the ID information.

    Select the Device settings tab.
Ensure that the duplex unit is set to Installed rather than Not installed.

  • Trouble synching to a new computer

I cannot seem to sync my ipad to my new laptop without iTunes threatening to delete all of my information. It's been synched to my old desktop many times, and I have home sharing turned on, but it doesn't seem like it's helping. (Unless I completely misunderstood what homesharing is). What should I do?!

Launch iTunes on the new laptop. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer.
    Now try syncing.
It's not a Home sharing issue.
