Synching old nano to new desktop

I want to sync my old Nano to my new apple desktop, but I don't want to change the playlists on the nano, I want to add them to my library on the desktop. How to dothis without erasing my Nano and gettiing the desktop songs onto it?

Since your iPod can only be synced with one computer/iTunes library at a time, you'll want to copy everything that is currently on the iPod to the new library first.  Once you have done that you can go ahead and choose the Erase and Sync option or restore the device to allow it to begin syncing with the new library.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • FAQ--How to transfer run data from old Nano to new Nano

Go to this thread and follow the instructions. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=595567&tstart=0
To get your old runs from your old Nano into your new Nano (1st or 2nd generation), you do the same as you would to reupload runs from your Nano that have not posted to Nike+ (happens all the time). No doubt there will soon be loads of people needing to transfer their runs to their new 2nd gen Nano.

If you do follow these instructions and transfer your old runs from your old Nano to your new Nano, please do not expect that your total runs on your new Nano will be the same as on your Nike+ site.
Also, your new Nano is NOT a clone of your old Nano so it will NOT match exactly to the data on your old Nano if you put your old runs on the new Nano (totals, etc won't match).
Unless you're a programmer or serious hacker, most users can only edit the XML files on the Nano--"Lastworkout" "preferences" and your run data files in "latest" & "synched." The Unix Executable Files are out of reach for me anyway.
Maybe someone will figure out how to do more, but I suspect our time would be better spent RUNNING!

  • Synching old Nano songs to new Apple ID

    Hello,
I have an iPod Nano which I bought 6 years ago. I uploaded all my songs from cd's on to it. Now i have an iPhone and iPad under a new apple id (i don't know the iPod Nano's id), i cannot synch my songs from my iPod to my new apple account. Does anyone know how to do this.
    Any help appreciated,
    Paul

If it is two seperate Apple ID's, there is currently no way to merge them.
If it is the same ID, simply a different login, customer service should be able to assist with the issue.

  • How do I sync old Nano to new MacBook

I bought a new macbook when my old ibook died. now i have all of my music from the ibook on my nano, but have no idea how to sync the nano to the macbook (which i also have music downloaded on itunes) without loosing any or all music. I downloaded YamiPod and tried to run it but everytime it starts to go, itunes pops up, even though I quit the program and i cant find a default reset anywhere.. does this make sense?? Can someone please help???
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

If your iPod is set to update automatically you just need take care when connecting back to your new computer and an empty iTunes. When you get the a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Changing to manual update will also enable your iPod for disk use and you need this option on to use Yamipod. Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • Old nano versus new one

I just bought an apple (+nano) via the education offer.
I was curious... I bought the old 1st gen nano (4gb) for the same price apple sell the new one (8mb). Wouldn't be fare that they would change my nano with a new one without any harge. I have my nano just for ten days or so...
Isn't it unfair to stack with an old one for just some days difference?

It's not really unfair. You might not like it, but it's not really unfair
Companies need to update their products to stay competitive.
Apple was not offering the new iPod nanos in the education offer, so even if you bought that computer today, you would still get an old iPod nano.
I would give Apple a call and see what they say. You might get some money back from what you originally paid for the nano (so it's less after rebate), but you wouldn't be able to get a new iPod nano, simply because you bought it with the rebate offer and the rebate doesn't include new iPod nanos.

  • Lost old nano and new nano will not sychronize with my itunes

I recently bought an new nano ipod after my old one stopped working. I am trying to synchronize the new one and it is not working. What should I try?

That could be a solution. Are you getting any error messages or error codes? Is the iPad recognized in iTunes? Does anything happen at all when you try to Sync? Can you provide more details?
You can try a very simple first step, quit iTunes, reboot your PC and restart the iPad.

  • Upgrade from old Nano to new Nano?

Does Apple have a program or service that lets iPod Nano users replace the first generation nano with the new generation nano, for a fee of course? Or would one have to purchase a brand new nano?

You can get a 10% discount on the purchase of any newer iPod as long as you turn yours in at time of purchase... OTHERWISE, a better course would be to buy a refurbished nano from the online Apple Store.

  • How do i sync music from old imac to new iphone?

I synced Handels music cd to old imac and nano. Then I bought new imac and new iphone. Never did migration. The new iphone is synced with new imac. I lost the Handel cd and I wanted to get the Handels music onto my new iphone. I want to transfer handels music from old imac (or old nano) to new imac or new iphone. Is this possible?
    Thanks for any input.
    Tim

You cannot transfer it directly to the iPhone, but you can copy the music to the new Mac. If they are on the same network you can drag the folder containing the music from the old iMac to the desktop on the new Mac. Then on the new mac drag and drop that folder onto iTunes in the dock bar. If they are not on the same network copy the folder to a data CD on the old Mac, then put the CD in the new Mac and drag the folder from the CD to iTunes.

  • Alright, so my ipod touch stopped working, but I can still connect it to itunes, but my friend gave me his old nano. I was wondering how I could get my more updated songs from my ipod touch onto the shuffle. My laptop crashed whish had all my new music

Alright, so my ipod touch stopped working, but I can still connect it to itunes, but my friend gave me his old nano. I was wondering how I could get my more updated songs from my ipod touch onto th nano. My laptop crashed whitch had all my new music, and im afraid if I sync my Ipod touch to the desktop with all my old songs, ill lose all my newer ones which I dont want to happen because I want them on my nano. Im sorry for the confusing topic im just so lost.

All you have to do is connect your new iPod to the computer that has the library for your old iPod.
When iTunes comes up, click on your new iPod under Devices.
At the top of the Summary Page click Music.
    Click Synch Music.
Do the same thing for Photos, Apps, Movies and so on...
    Now just synch the iPod.

  • Mystery- how has my old nano been updated with my new playlists in iTunes when I haven't synced it?

I got given a 2gb nano in 2005, which I filled up with imported cd music, not wanting an Apple account and not wanting to pay for music that I already have on cd (was in music industry for years, and like to own the physical product rather than a download that then needs backing up). Anway, lovely bf has bought me a 7th gen 160gb pod for Xmas, so I was merrily organising playlists and preparing to load the whole 45gb of music onto my new shiny ipod. Got my old nano out yesterday, and found that all the playlists that were there have been replaced by the first few new playlists I've made in iTunes. I am not using Match, or thieving Cloud, and I haven't had the nano anywhere near the computer for the last 3 or 4 years! I don't remember registering the nano with Apple, but the new one has definitely been registered (several conversations with Apple because Amazon sent us a "new" iPod that had already been opened, language and clock set to Australian time (the London clock said 9.47pm  YESTERDAY), and replaced it with another "new" one with the same issues (replacement hadn't even been shrinkwrapped, just the bare and slightly battered box).
Is this something that the cloud has done? And if so, how come it's done it to my baby nano, and not to the new Classic 160gb? It means it ran out of space, so effectively it's wiped off all the music that has been on there for years, and replaced it with as much as it could fit on, working from the top of the playlist list........
Having read about how the cloud nicks things and won't let you access them if you disconnect from cloud (not that I'm aware of having connected to the **** thing anyway), I'm now going to have to do a back up so that when I tell cloud to bog off, I can still copy any missing music back into iTunes.
Has anyone got an explanation for how my nano's content has been changed without me doing anything except changing my playlists in iTunes, and has it happened to anyone else?
Also, why did nobody at Apple stop to thing that "pushing" data to all your Apple devices is bound to cause problems when each device's capacity is so different from the others? My iPad is the first and small one (32gb I think), the nano is 2gb, my new Pod is 160gb, and what's in iTunes is 35gb. It's also tried to put my music library onto the iPad, announced there wasn't room (I had already selectively downloaded some music on to it when I got it 2 years ago), and wiped off all the music that was on that. It currently says there's nothing on it BUT also says it's full. I'm not very happy with Apple at the moment!
The only device listed in iTunes is the iPad, dated as Xmas 2010. Should I remove that from there?
iTunes is ALWAYS set to "prevent automatic sync" because until now, I haven't had a device with sufficient capacity to put the whole library on to, so even if I had plugged the nano in, I would have had to have selected the whole library in order for this mysterious over-writing to have happened.
    Answers, anyone?
    Thanks in advance :-)
    Nikki

When iTunes removed the ping feature they replaced it with an internal check on feeds - based on the frequency of new episodes - so your feed may take a week or more to show up the changes.
    http://www.nobodydanceshere.com/blog/feed/podcast/
Looking at your feed it is showing a last build date of 5/26/2012 - so the next time iTunes checks your feed it should update your info.
But since it has been since 2010 since your last update - you do need to wait a bit before iTunes checks your feed again.

After getting a new desktop I downloaded iTunes and authorized my new computer and then de-authorized my old one,  When I try to update my 5S it says my phone is not authorized and list my wifes email address as the account holder and not mine.  How do I correct this. I am using Windows 8.1 .  My wife has never had an iTuunes account

    Hello Lakesidetom,
It sounds as though you are experiencing an issue with an Apple ID and authorizations. Based on your post, it sounds like you are familiar with the authorizing and deauthorizing process. The Apple ID in question (your wife's email) may be originating from the iPhone you are attempting to update. Is it possible that your wife created an Apple ID or iCloud account which is signed in on that iPhone? Below, I have included links to some resources that may help you determine if your wife has created an Apple ID:

  • I just bought a new desktop and will be taking my old one to the apple store tomorrow to have the data transferred. Does the transfer include the transfer of programs or just data?

I just bought a new desktop and will be taking my old one to the apple store tomorrow to have the data transferred. Does the transfer include the transfer of programs or just data?

They will simply use Migration Assistant to transfer your Home folder, third-party applications and support files, and system preferences. This is something you could do yourself. You would need a Firewire cable to connect between your old computer and your new one. Migration Assistant is installed in the Utilities folder of your new computer.

  • I had to reformat my hard drive on an older Desktop running Windowx XP. The IE browser is not working now. Is there a way I can download Firefox onto a flash drive from my new desktop and install it on my old desktop?

I had to reformat the hard drive on my old desktop. It is runninf Windows XP. I can't get Internet Explorer to work so I can connect to the internet via wireless. Is there a way I can download firefox from my new desktop onto a flas drive and then install Firefox from the flash drive onto my old desktop? If so, please explain the procedure.

Go to a suitable download page eg: [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html]
Download firefox, use the save option rather than install.
Save it directly to the flash drive, or to somewhere on your computer and copy/move it the flash drive.
However if IE is not working possibly you have some sort of setup problem so firefox may not work either.
