Synching only selected songs from library

My library is in iTunes 9.1.1. When I go to the summary tab, I am only given the option of synching the entire library OR selected playlists, artists, genres. I used to be able to select (check) specific songs to be synced. Why is that no longer an option ? I don't want the entire library, nor do I want every song by an artist, which is what I get if I choose the "selected playlists,etc... option in the summary tab. The library is shared by myself and kids, who have their own playlists for synching their ipods. Synching selected songs is critical ( don't need Xmas songs or Miley Cyrus on my ipod).
Solutions ?
Thanks

Make your own playlists with the music that you like. You can exclude Christmas music or Miley Cyrus from your playlists.
You should still be abel to sync checked music. There should be a box to sync only selected/checked music.
I would still recommend using playlists. If the ipod crashes or if you want to play the unchecked songs in a shuffle or mix, you will run into issues. It is easier, in my opinion, to simply make playlists/smart playlists and then choose whatever playlists that you like to your device.

If you syncing the ipod to the computer then you can click on the little icon on the left side tool bar thats stands for your ipod, check the box that says 'sync only checked songs and videos', apply this to the ipod then you can uncheck any of the music that's not wanted on the ipod.

You must surely be able to add and subtract songs on specific playlist?

I fixed this issue (with help from tech support) and it involved several things.
After adding a song to iTunes, right-click on the song in iTunes and select "Update iTunes Match."
OR go to the iTunes menu-->Store-->Update iTunes Match.
Maybe that's the reason, it just hadn't updated to the cloud.
OR maybe it's not a high-enough bitrate file.   This happens to me because most of my tunes are home-recorded.
Sometimes converting to .mp3 or Create AAC version might work. (You do this with a right-click in iTunes, and then you will want to remove the original file from iTunes.)
There is an iTunes Preferences setting, under General Preferences called Import Settings.  Try setting it to AAC Encoder and iTunes Plus.   That (I think) causes imports to be slightly better quality.
Good luck!  The tech support person at Apple is requesting that a knowlege-base article be written about this.

If you check songs, simply sync the entire library.
But I highly recommend (and it is far simpler) to create a playlist (or multiple playlists) and select only that playlist to sync.
    Leave everything checked.
Then simply add/remove from these playlists and sync away.

  • How to only sync selected items from library

*I am a new owner of a 120GB iPod classic. How do I sync only certain songs from the itunes I currently have ? I removed the check mark from the box and those songs still downloaded to the ipod. Not sure how to set itunes to only snyc those items selected. Any help is appreciated.*

    Hey there,
One thing you want to check is to make sure you have your iPod set to only sync checked songs. To do this, plug your iPod in and when it appears in iTunes, on the Summary tab, you will see a section called "Options" below. You want to make sure you have a check mark next to "Sync only checked songs and videos" and then hit Apply and see if that helps.

  • Itunes on Windows plays one song from library and stops

I am a new ipod owner and new to itunes. Loaded many CD's, videos and audiobooks without difficulty into itunes 6.0.4.2. Library of songs is extensive but trying to play songs from library results in itunes playing ONLY one selected song. I must re-select another song in order to play another. It will not continue to play the songs in the library. I have re-installed itunes and that did not correct the problem. Also tried selecting multiple songs and still itunes only plays the 1st song of the list. Obviously I've done something wrong or have not done something that is required. I've check all I know and have also not found this problem in the discussion groups. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

This'll happen when all of the checkboxes are unchecked. iTunes will only play unchecked songs if they are directly clicked.
To check all songs, ctrl+check one.

Or if you want something more automated another method you can use to auto-sync your iPod with iTunes is "Sync Music - Selected Playlists". Syncing selected playlists is just like syncing your whole library only on a smaller scale and more "selectively" anything you deleted from it will be deleted from the iPod. In other words the iTunes playlist and the iPod are kept "in sync".
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash. This is particularly useful when your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod. When your iPod is is set to sync selected playlists it automatically picks up any changes you made to that playlist in iTunes since you last connected. Anything you added to the playlist will be added to the iPod, will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). Drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you
I'm having trouble with spinning ball right now, so I'm not able to delete what doesn't apply. Anyway, I get as far as "Devices>Summary," but there is no "Apply" button. The only buttons are "Check for update, Restore, and SYNC". I'm not interested in any automatic procedure at this time. I can't say more now, because every time I click a key, the multi-colored spinning ball has to spin for a second or two. Makes things slow.

  • HT1399 Can I manually select songs from iTunes? If so, how?

Can I manually select songs from Itunes? If so, how?

I have the iPhone 5. When I plug my phone into iTunes to select different songs, as my libraray is too large to keep it all on my phone. The only choices that iTunes gives you now is Artists, Genres, etc. I don't see the ability to just select song for song, like the older version of iTunes. Which in my opinion, was way more user friendly.

Restoring from backup will result in the iPod being like it was when the backup was made. If you restore via iTunes, you have to have all the synced media in your iTunes library since those are not included in the iPod backup.
