Synching settings (keywords, presets, etc) between multiple computers

Hello - I tried searching for a solution but the only one I found was from 2009 (for CS3).
I have CS4 on my MacBook and CS5 on my iMac.   I would like things like keyword hierarchy, some presets, some preferences to be synced on both computers.
If not syncing - maybe be able to copy Keywords, Presets from one computer to another.   Is there a way to do this?
Thanks,
Stevie

A lot of the Presets are fairly easy to locate (in the Presets-folder in the Application’s folder and in your user – Library – Application Support – Adobe – Adobe Photoshop CS5 – Presets) and copy/load.
Workspaces and the currently loaded Brushes, Patterns, etc. are in user – Library – Preferences – Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings.
Keywords I’m not sure about, maybe »Adobe Bridge Keywords.xml« in Bridge’s Application Support folder?
It should be possible to create a Script that compares folder content and/or file-change dates (the respective other volume would have to be mounted naturally), loads the newer versions and link that Script to starting Photoshop with Script Events Manager – but I guess that would be rather complex.
I usually don’t use AppleScript myself, but possibly such a thing could be achieved at the System level, too.
Maybe asking in the Scripting Forum could turn something up.

  • How can I sync Bridge between multiple computers at work with keywords/collections/search?

We've been trying to find a digital asset management platform at work for a while now and I recently came across Bridge (we have the Creative Cloud). It's perfect! Except we're all on a bunch of different computers and would need to be able to search the same keywords/collections all from the same server (the photos are in many different folders though). Is there a way to be able to sync all keywords etc on multiple computers? Or if someone opens Bridge and can search right away without having to make all the keywords persistent by finding each photo and clicking on it? We're all on the same Creative Cloud team.

I actually did already create a book with all the files in it, but I couldn't figure out how that was helpful. The hyperlink panel doesn't seem to have any "book" options (unless I'm looking in the wrong place?) and just linking to the different files (after creating the book) didn't have any different results than linking to the files before I created the book.
I thought maybe linking to the different files in the book would work if I could export the whole book to pdf at once (which would be super-helpful in and of itself), but that doesn't seem to be an option either.
I guess what I'm asking is for you to elaborate on what to do after creating the book.
    Thanks!

  • How can I sync my purchased audiobooks between multiple computers?

How can I sync my purchased audiobooks between multiple computers? The new iCloud feature seems to make it possible to sync all my other content (purchased from iTunes) but there is no way/option for audiobooks. Any clues?

Copy them to a disk/hard drive/flash drive/etc, then copy it to the other computer.

  • How do I share iphoto's pictures between multiple computers

having converted from PC to the Mac I have almost 20,000 pictures in iphoto on my iMac and all lost the tags/people/locations that I had tagged using a PC application. I now need to retag all these using iphoto's people and locations and key words. This will take some time and I'm thinking of buying an Apple notebook so I can continue doing the tags etc while away from home or even while watching TV. Is it possible to share the photo's between 2 mac's and no matter which mac I'm using have all the tags etc stay intact? Or alternately will I have to some how export each time from the up to date iphoto and import onto the other machine? If I have to export and import then that will be a rather large file to move back and forth. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. No, you would have to have the library on your laptop or on an external HD attached to your laptop. Depending on the size of the library you could put it on a flash drive and operated from it. It would work as I'm doing that now with one of my libraries and my MBP and iMac in creating a book. But it will be slow. If all you're doing is adding keyword and titles it should be a viable method. Faces will work but may be one of the slower features of this method as it requires frequent accessing of the files on the disk (I'm not sure of this last part, however, so take it with a grain of whatever).
I would purchase a flash drive that had as fast an read/write capability as possible. Also format the drive to OS X Extended (journaled) before using.

  • Full backup of settings, actions, presets, etc.

Time to time I have to reinstall my Photoshop. In my own computer, or work computer. Or maybe after a Windows reinstalling. And always I get the one and the same issue - settings, actions and presets in Photoshop. I forgot to backup them manually everytime I change them or make something new. And when I installed a fresh Photoshop, I have to create a new actions that I already did before, presets, and other.
How do you think is it possible to make a full backup feature in Photoshop with automatic backup? Then when I need to restore my settings I choose one file, and all my setting being restored.

I did a full reinstall a while back, and copied the entire Appdata folder to a USB3 pocket drive, but looking though the Photoshop CC subfolders, only Brushes had anything in it.  If using Windows, you need to enable view hidden files & folders from Explorer properties to access App Data (C:\User\your user name\App data\...
The \Program Files\Plugins\ has shortcuts to my Topaz filters, but I chose to download the latest version and do a full install.  I also dropped an old version of Flaming Pear Flood in the same folder. (32bit)
There's a list of CS5 file locations for Mac and Windows here (I don't know how relevant it is to later versions):
Preference file functions, names, locations | Photoshop CS5
Good luck and enjoy your clean lean new installation.  Just a warning that you will no doubt already be aware of...   I wanted latest versions of all the little apps I run like WinDirStat, MSI Afterburner, IrfanView, Specy, Handbreak etc. etc. and had to be beyond paranoid to avoid malware. Previously trusted sources like Cnet, Tucows etc. are now rife with downloads that want to add toolbars and mess up your system.  The worst one for me was one of those nasty advert pop up things that covers every webpage with pop ups.  I struggled to get rid of that!

  • How to sync podcasts between multiple computers

I'd like to be able to keep my podcasts in sync (last played position, downloads, subscriptions) between my home Macbook, my work Macbook, and my iPhone 5. Any suggestions of how to do so? It would seem the two computers need to share the same iTunes library database file, which could perhaps be done via Dropbox? But I don't need all my music to be shared between the two computers (and don't want the library on Dropbox).

Actually I have tried export/import but it has not worked properly. The ict files either don't all tranfer right, one time I had duplicate events, etc. Setting up a LAN is not really an option.
It looks like from all other information I've read that doing it through .mac it simplest, I may have to go that route. Thank you.

  • Sharing all photoshop folders etc between 2 computers

At present I have Photoshop Elements 6 on my desktop, which has Windows XP.
I have bought a laptop with Windows 7 and wish to share all my folders(tagged etc)
in order to be able to edit them when away from home. Is this possible and easy to do.
Hope someone can help me. Thanks

There's no easy way to do this in Elements 6.
In Elements 8, there's a new feature called Multi-Machine Sync. It will let you backup and synchronize your photos with Photoshop.com. If you connect two or more machines to the same photoshop.com account, they will all be kept in sync.
Connecting PSE8 to a Photoshop.com account is a membership service. If you have less than 2GB of photos it's free. If you have between 2 and 20GB it's an annual $49. There are plans that go above 20GB as well.
The service is only available int he US though.
You can create a membership account from the PSE Welcome Screen by creating an AdobeID.
    Cheers

  • How can I get my iTunes synced between multiple computers?

I always have the most current version of iTunes and I also subscribe to iTunes Match. Is there anyway to get my computers (both Mac) to have the same iTunes library without deleting all of one library and importing the other to it? As a professional musician, I have way too many songs to constantly do this, and I refuse to believe that Apple hasn't came up with a better solution such as syncing. If anyoe can help me out, it would greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    No.
Iphone will sync with one and only one computer a a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content from the iphone and replace with content from the new computer.

  • Sharing iMail Accounts Between Multiple Computers

I have a Macbook Pro and an iMac and would like to know how to share the iMail account information between them so I do not have to setup the accounts from scratch. Does anyone know how to do this? Any help would be appreciated.

You need to have all the music stored in a shared folder.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203
If you move all the files around with Win Explorer, itunes will lose the paths to the files. It might be best to move everything to the shared folder and have them start over with a blank library (new ratings, playcounts)
The last lines in that article state
+When another user of the computer has imported new music from CD, repeat steps 6 through 8 to add the music to your library.+
You might want to use a little program like "itunes folder watch" to do it automatically for you.

  • How to use a Itunes Library between multiple computers

    Hi all,
I have never posted a question to this apple forum, so forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask.
    My situation is as follows:
I have a Synology DS214play NAS, also attached to my network is a wired Imac (late 2013 model) running the latest software and wireless connected macbook pro.
What I want to achieve is to manage my music on both my Imac and my Macbook, the itunes library file(s) and music are stored on my NAS.
What Im able to do is to manually select the Library file on one devices and it retrieves all the contents and I can start listing and adding music.
However if I want to also listing to my music on another device at the same time, Where I also select the library file its giving me this message:
    What this message is telling:
"The File 'iTunes Library Extras.itdb' is locked, this file is located is located on a secure disk or you don't have the privilege to write to this file.
    Sorry for the bad translation.
I have tryed everything so far but it doesn't help,
I hope you guys and girls can help me with this.
    Regards Jordy from the Netherlands

I want to also listing to my music on another device at the same time
A library file can only be opened by one running copy of iTunes at a time.  You have to quit iTunes on the other computer.
You can have two library files sharing the same media, but then you have to keep two libraries up to date with each other.

  • Syncing play counts between two computers

Is it possible to sync play counts (and other settings such as favorites, playlists, backups, etc) between two computers?
I purchased a new computer for school, but I am interested in continuing to use my old one as well.  The old one is where my info is accumulated of course, but I would like to add my counts, playlists, ratings etc. from my old computer onto the new one, and hopefully sync them between each other as well.
As unnecessary as this sounds, I am wondering if it is possible and how it can be achieved.  Any help and/or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thank you

iOS devices sync to one computer.
It is not possible (at least not easily) to sync to multiple computers.
What you can do is copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the existing computer to the new computer.  Then everything in iTunes on the new computer will be exactly as it was on the old computer.
There is no syncing, at least not within iTunes.
Other programs do exists that will allow you to sync specific folders between multiple computers.

  • How do we move shoots between two computers?

Has anyone figured out a method of moving a shoot between multiple computers? I would like to be able to move my days work with all my image edits intact without having to export all the images. For example, handing over a shoot to an art director. I'd also need the hierarchical folder structure in place.
I do not wish to sync libraries as others wish to do. I only want to move a select portion of my library. I thought Photo Binders was moving in this direction in the beta release but sadly they are gone in version 1.0.
This would save me loads of time. As it is now I have to export all my files to tiff's which takes quite some time and gives me redundant images to manage. If this is not possible, even being able to export a shoot with the folder structure held would be helpful.
    Michael

This is something I liked about RSP... the non-destructive edits, virtual copies, tags, rankings, etc. were *all* stored in settings files (.rws files, I seem to remember) co-located with each folder of images; move/copy the whole folder structure and the images and settings files moved along with it.
LR could have done that and still maintained a central library that kept track of the folders and the settings files that would been equivalent to ".rws" files. But it appears they did not.
Hard to believe that they did not include a 1.0 solution for a requirement that is critical to the workflow of serious amateurs and pros who download images to laptops and begin working on them before returning to the mother ship.
If Adobe was running short of time or resources, I would have preferred to wait for native generation of slideshows and web galleries in LR in favor of including laptop/desktop workflow integration, because I already have external tools to do slideshows/web galleries.

  • How to sync with multiple computers?

I have my iTunes library on my MacBook and all of my Apple devices synced accordingly. My family also has an iMac, and I would like other family members to be able to sync from the iMac. I know I can use Home Sharing to allow the iMac to view/play the music when my Macbook is active on the network. I also know I can purchase iTunes Match so I can access the music when my MacBook is offline and edit the playlists. Yet, I would love to be able to set up the iMac so the iDevices could actually by synced with that computer as opposed to mine. How can I go about this?

Yes, you can sync your device with multiple computers.  Only that one is set to AUTO SYNC whilst the rest is set to "MANUALLY MANAGE MUSIC".
    Refer to this article:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202
However, issues may occur leading to data corruption or data loss if you regularly sync Contacts, Calendars, Notes, or bookmarks between multiple computers using iTunes and your iOS device. Syncing once to move your data to a new computer should not cause these issues.

  • Using the same library with multiple computers over a network Use Aperture

Hi Everyone. I am researching some cataloguing/editing programs to recommend one to my boss, and I was wondering if it was possible to use the same library between multiple computers on a network. Does anyone know if this is possible? This may be what makes or breaks the decision on whether or not to go with Aperture as we need a program that can access a large database of photos on multiple computers.
    Thank you.

    Welcome to the forum.
    You can do it, but...
    It's not supported by Apple.
Performance won't be great unless you're running a really fast network.
If more than one person tries to access the Library at one time you're likely to end up with a corrupted database, and there's no code in Aperture to limit access to one person at a time.
The Library must be stored on an HFS+ volume - don't even try putting it on a FAT32-formatted drive.
If you want 'proper' multi-concurrent-user network-enabled cataloguing software you're looking into a whole different level of investment than the low price of Aperture - think more in terms of thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars.

  • How to share/transfer files between household computers?

My wife and I would like to share photos, documents, music, etc. between our computers in the home.  Is there an easy way to do this using Time Machine?  Is it possible to just copy & paste (or drag & drop) a file from one computer to another?
This is a simple question, I think.  I just don't know how to do it.  THANK YOU.

Not with Time Machine. Use File Sharing and Home Sharing. Select Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "sharing."
iTunes- Setting up Home Sharing on your computer
    File Sharing on Macs
    Mac 101- File sharing
