Synching to icloud and losing everything

I bought an ipad about 6 mths ago.  At the time I didn't have my own itunes account and so I synched it to my spouse's itunes account, using his username and password.  Last night when I was synching it appeared to do a factory reset, and in answering all the questions to get it up and running I used my name and password.  After I disconnected, I noticed that all my apps, songs, contacts, photos, and calendar were missing.  My daughter told me to reconnect to restore everything.  I did, but used my spouse's username and password (because I was pretty confused at this point as to what I was being asked for).  Sure enough everything came back (except the calendar).  However, none of the apps could be opened, Facetime could open but it wouldn't work because there was some password problem.  I tried to fix the password problem, but it didn't work.  In short, I'm very confused.  Clearly I must have set up a parallel account when I changed my username/password during the factory reset and the restore.
While doing this I set up an icloud account, first with my username / password, and then possibly with my spouse's.  At this point everything seems to be really messed up.  How can I start over?  Have I messed up my spouse's Mac and itunes account?

My guess is that you created a new account (which your phone is connected to) and your stuff, of course is in your old account.

  • Can I exclude photos on my iPhone from being sent to iCloud and how?  My goal is to only sync my calendar to the iCloud and exclude everything else.  This way I don't have to pay for more space.

    Hey Murphie,
I don't pay for more space and I'm backing up two devices to iCloud, a 32G ipad and a 16G phone.
However, you can merely chose NOT to backup to iCloud. Then you won't run out of space. Items synced to iCloud do not take up your backup space.
Now, you WILL have to back up to your computer via iTunes the old fashioned way, or risk losing valuable data. Your choice.
However, if you manage your data responsibility, you won't run out of your 5G of storage on your iCloud backup from normal use.
    Good luck

    Hi DesCoop,
You must initiallly activate iCloud from an IOS device or a Mac. You cannot inititally activated from a PC.
    Sorry.

If the Inbox for this account only is revealed, is there any triangle beside it?
Ah, yes, I see! Silly me to be looking for Sent mail under "Sent"! Indeed, there's a disclosure triangle next to the account name under "Inbox", and wen you open it, it shows Drafts, Sent, spam, and Trash. The sent items are indeed there.
Mind you, my Dot Mac accounts show up normally, i.e., their sent mail goes under "Sent". Wish all IMAP accounts did that. It sure isn't logical to show sent mail inside an inbox...
But to answer your question: In addition to having the "Sent" folder for the account under "Inbox", I also have a folder for the account under "Sent". This folder disappears when I check the box to store messages on the server. There were emails in it (the ones I placed there myself). I have now moved those emails to the sent sub-folder under the account under "Inbox". Even with the "store on server" option UNchecked, the emails were instantly duplicated to the server, so that they were present both locally and remotely. I then checked the "store on server box"; this made the mailbox for the account under "Sent" vanish.
To summarize: things appear to work normally now, except that I find it very inconvenient to have to look in two separate "Sent" folders to find emails I've written.

I upgraded fro iphone4 to iphone5. i restored from backup in iCloud, and almost everything is there perfectly. there was one app on the phone, which i clicked on to finish the install, but it then disappeared. in my iTunes, under library/apps, this app still shows there. how do i reinstall this app. it was a paid app, and i searched the app store, and apparently it is no longer there.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

It appears to be fixed, he had multiple versions of iTunes installed (since he put his iTunes in a different folder) the iTunes icon launched the old iTunes, even though the new was installed. it's working now.

  • How do i get rid of icloud without losing everything

I inadverdantly installed the latest IOS 7 on my wife's ipad from work.  She was asked not to install it because of concerns with icloud.
I am afraid if I delete the account it will lose a lot of information that she requires. I just don't want to make matters worse.
    Thanks in advance

Just delete the account from the device in "Settings > iCloud" and if you miss something and need anything back, then you could still add the account back on again.

  • Can I set up two iphones, two I-macs, one I-pad, on ICloud and have everything in Synch?

I currently have two i-phones(IOS 5.0.1), two I-Macs(OS 10.6.8), and one I-Pad(5.0.1) syching on MobileMe.  I had to get the faamily pack of Mobile me in order to sych both phones.  How about i-cloud?  What do I have to do with these two syching accounts?

It's not clear why you needed a mobile me family pack, however your macs will need Lion before you can use iCloud.

  • Resetting  and Losing everything

i lost everything on my iPod 30Gb 5th G. I did a dumb thing of re setting the iPod while still synced to my computer. I lost everything on the iPod but everything is still in my Library. The thing is, I get a message that iTunes cannot read the iPod, and that i Should download the update software. Well, I do that and then it still doesn't read it. Am I going to have to re format it?
    Dell Windows XP

If you've already lost everything, just re-format it.

Usually, I am able to open the docs in the email and am given the option to save to Ibooks.  Now, the docs won't even open.  would appreciate any help on this.
    Thanks

    Hi and welcome.....
Restart your PC, restart your iPad.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
    Now try syncing.

  • Address Book on iMac is out of synch with Contacts on iPod Touch. How do I get them in synch (through iCloud/iTunes)?

I'm confused about the different versions of Address Book on iMac. I set up iTunes to synch Address Book with my iPod Touch 5th Gen. through iCloud. Somehow they got out of synch.
There are three sections or versions of Address Book on my iMac:  (1) "All Contacts," (2) "On My Mac: All on My Mac" and (3) "iCloud: All iCloud."
"All Contacts" seems to combine the last two. Unfortunately, contacts that got added to "On My Mac" are NOT being synched to iCloud and to my iPod.
What can I do to get them in synch and how can I avoid this in the future?

    On your iPod...
There are settings in the Contacts apps if you tap "groups".    Check all.
And in settings, check in iCloud to see that all contacts are switched to on in all accounts.

  • How do I split my iTunes ID and my iCloud ID without losing everything?

I am currently using the same Apple ID for both iTunes and iCloud. However, I wish to share the iTunes and App Store account with my girlfriend, and have a separate ID for iCloud, so that we don't share emails, documents, etc across our various devices. However, I have paid for extra storage in iCloud, and I still have quite a lot of unused credit on my iTunes account, as well as all my apps etc associated with it, none of which I want to lose. Is it possible to associate one of these accounts with a new Apple ID with everything in tact, and if so, how?
    Thanks for your help.

You can migrate your iCloud data to a new account if you wish, but the storage upgrade, iCloud email account and photo stream will remain with the original account.  Changing iCloud accounts will not effect your iTunes ID.  You can keep your current iTuens ID and associated credit, apps and other purchased media; it does not need to be the same as your iCloud ID.
To migrate to a new account, start by saving any photo stream photos you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select (Edit in iOS 6), tap the photos, tap the share icon -- box with upward pointing arrow (Share in iOS 6), then tap Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing notes with iCloud, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud), choose Keep on My iDevice and provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone.  Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data.
