Synching with gmail

Is there any way to have the Iphones/Itunes synch program synch with just the My contacts folder in gmail, and not include the suggested contacts? I know gmail recently changed this feature, but hopefully someone at Apple reads this and will make the adjustment. Having 200 or so "non-contacts" is annoying!

I set my Gmail account up as an Exchange account on both my iPad and my iPhone and it works perfectly. Calendar, contacts, email, no problems.

  • Mail won't synch with Gmail IMAP

Same problem as so many other loyal Mac users on these forums...
New Macbook Pro 2013 running Mavericks 10.9.1 and Mail 7.1 (1827).
It's been synching fine with Gmail IMAP for months. Then two days ago, was no longer to synch incoming mail. I can still send Gmail fine. just won't receive new mail.
Yes, I checked my settings. They're fine.
I've spent hours on these forums looking up and trying the various home remedies: Repair Permissions, Take All Mail Offline/Online, Uncheck SHow All Mail Imap, nothing works.
Can we just get the %&*%&$ Mail to WORK?
    What else can I do?

Mac Mail stopped synching my inbound GMail last evening.  Was working fine for several months on 10.9.x.  Non-GMail accounts worked okay.  Connection Doctor was all green.  Restarted Mail and the laptop a few times.  Tried Safe Mode, repaired permissions and system disk.
There's a link to Google support at the bottom of the Mail > Preferences > Accounts window so I clicked it, poked around and found this troubleshooting suggestion on the Known Issues page a few minutes ago (link is below):
IMAP client stopped syncing mail from the server
If you are experiencing problems with your IMAP client, try changing the visibility of “All mail” and “Drafts” labels from the (GMail web) settings:
Click the gear icon in the upper-right and select Gmail settings on the top of any Gmail page.
    Select the Labels tab.
Ensure that the "Show in IMAP" checkbox is selected for both "All mail" and "Drafts".
Neither of these were checked as I didn't want "All mail" sent down to my Mac.  But changing these settings caused unsynced mail to be delivered.  Permanent fix?  Who knows?  Thought I'd mention it though.

  • Duplicates when synching with gmail

I had been having a problem with duplications of contacts. When migrating my contacts from Address Book to GMail, the initial migration happens without error. Groups appear as they should and the entries within them are correct. When synching after the migration, though, iSync reports that there will be many duplications and quite a few deletions. The problem seems to be that the iSync is not noticing that duplicate contacts are within groups, and instead iSync wants to duplicate them yet again OUTSIDE the groups. In other words, everything gets screwed up when synching after the initial migration.
I'm synching contacts Address Book, Mobile Me, a Blackberry (via Missing Sync) and GMail.
    Thanks for any help.

Killed all the Google contacts again, uploaded the contents of my Address Book and the next sync attempted wanted to add 144 contacts and modify 352 of them. When I checked the ones the sync dialogue wanted to modify using the before/after switch, it was claiming that the Address Book entries only had one line in them, usually just the name, when I checked the actual entry it had every field filled out, name, address, telephone numbers etc. What gives?

Thank you for the great options demmo86rt!
Additionally, if options provided by demmo86rt do not resolve your calendar issues you can try to remove your Gmail account from your phone and then re-add your Gmail account.

  • Synching Address Book with Gmail

According to the instructions I've found I should be able to sync my Address Book (v4.1.1 - updates say this is current) with Gmail address book. But when I go to Preferences>General I only get choices for MobileMe, Exchange Server and Yahoo. Any advice how to add the choice (and then choose) Gmail? I use the Gmail account elsewhere (main Mail account, iCal) with little hitch.
    Thanks!

you need to have either an iphone or an ipod touch for this option to show up. if you don't have either but have a regular ipod you can use the following hack to do it.
    http://lifehacker.com/393855/enable-google-contact-sync-without-an-iphoneipod-to uch
however, that hack is incomplete. to make it active you have to set up a free yahoo account and enable yahoo address book sync. after that you'll be able to sync your AB with google.

  • Desktop Synch with Outlook - this may be the final straw

I am running Blackberry Desktop on a machine running Windows 7 64-bit. I'm using Blackberry 7.1 Bundle 1737.  I am using Outlook.  I don't have an enterprise email.
When I try to synch, it usually works on memos and tasks, fails on address (stalls part way through) or calendar and address. Errors include "Line 131 in .\error.cap", CRTran", "BB storefront", "CPreferensManager Configuruation Value not set in TransConfig.xml". Etc. I did a clean reinstall on the desktop, I wiped the Blackberry, cleaned out all Blackberry entries on drive and regedit, and still problems.
The synch with the same Blackberry and same version of Blackberry Desktop software  works fine on laptop (32 bit).
Tried one more time: Did a clean unistall.  Deleted "RIM" under my "appdata". Reinstalled using "run as adminsitrator". Ran the program from C:\ with properties as Windows 7. The synch ran for tasks, memos and calendar. However, for addresssess, it stalls at either 1687 or 79 addresses (out of ~4500). It ran fine on the laptop (Windows 7 32 bit).
Another issue: I accidentally set up gmail with "synch". I could not "unsynch" contacts, and had to do a security wipe and reinstall.
Tell me I should still believe in RIM/Blackberry.

After ages of successfully and happily using Blackberry Desktop 6, I reformatted my system and decided to give the newer 7.0 a whirl. Worst mistake ever. I tried 7.0 and it fouled up my contacts in a horrible way, both in my Outlook and on my phone.
Every few months I give it another shot, most recently with 7.1, and the software is still unintuitively awful compared to 6.10 when it comes to synchronization issues. I shake my head each time and I wonder if quality control is one of the reasons RIM lost so much market share.
My advice is to go back to 6.1 if you can find it on the net. It's always worked reliably for me.
    610_b038_multilanguage.exe is what I'm using.

  • Mail app constantly synching with iCloud server after upgrade to Mavericks

Since upgrading to Mavericks, Mail has been constantly synching with the iCloud server - and I mean constantly. I know this because I have the Activity window open. Consequently there is often a significant lag between clicking Send on a new message and it being sent, or new messages being downloaded. I have another iMac at my office and the same problem is being experienced there.
I left the computer running all night to see if it would eventually sych everything, but it seems to be going in a constant cycle ever since the upgrade.
If it means anything to anyone, the Console window displays a continuous stream of data similar to this:
    9:24:37.448 am fseventsd[48]: implementation_added_client : failed to add client for path /Users/Kevin/Library/Mail/V2/AosIMAP-kbish…
    9:24:37.449 am fseventsd[48]: implementation_register_rpc: implementation_added_client() => 22
    9:24:39.808 am fseventsd[48]: implementation_added_client : failed to add client for path /Users/Kevin/Library/Mail/V2/AosIMAP-kbish…
    9:24:39.809 am fseventsd[48]: implementation_register_rpc: implementation_added_client() => 22
Can anyone offer any advice on what the problem might be and how I might fix it.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

No solution here, but I have either the same or a similar problem. Apple Mail with Gmail (IMAP) used to work fine with Mavericks.
Now with Yosemite most emails load ok, but some show the spinning wheel and "Loading..." message forever. These messages never load.
I also have Thunderbird and it loads and shows these messages just fine. The messages that don't load in Mail are simple plain text messages so it's unrelated to complex attachments and such.
Clearly something is broken in Yosemite that wasn't broken in Mavericks.

  • Sync iPhone contacts with Gmail contacts whille having Outlook contacts

    Hi,
I am currently syncing my iPhone's contacts with itunes ->Outlook.
Which means that all my contacts being saved on my Outlook account.
I also have many people/contacts on my Gmail accound that I wish to get in to my iPhone.
    BUT:
The problem is that I am afraid to sync and get many many duplicates.
There is a way to merge both without making a MASS?
    Plus:
It could be really nice to have all the contacts from my iPhone backed up on my Gmail account.
    Thanks!!

Do you want to sync with Outlook.com or Windows PC Outlook? I'm guessing the latter since it sounds like you prefer to protect your privacy by not synching with the cloud. Try http://www.akruto.com. I've been using it with my iPhone and iPad without any problems. Website doesn't mention iOS, but I found out from a friend that it works with iOS and it does.

  • Why is TB re-syncing/re-load with GMail all messages each time I open TB? Slows down TB by much each time.

Why is TB re-syncing/re-load with GMail all messages each time I open TB?
It does slow down quite heavily. e.g. It takes almost 5 mins to just write a simple short email, since ''freezing'' at every 3-4 caracters.
All other programs on the computer work fine in the meantime, though. Including word processor. So it is really a TB issue.
Or is it a GMail issue, forcing download everytime a connection is created ?
I am on Win8.1 on an ASUS AiO.
    Thanks

IMAP mail accounts see a remote view of the server.
You subscribe to see server Folders.
Headers are downloaded and when you select to view an email, the emails are downloaded to a temp cache to enable quicker access to those emails, but upon exit Thunderbird the temp cache is lost, so you cannot read emails if offline. These emails are not stored on your computer.
If you synchronise subscribed folders, then a copy of the folder is downloaded to Thunderbird Profile folder and stored in an mbox file. This means you can read them even if offline.
However, the folder is set up to synchronise with the server when changes occur, so that your copy and the folder on the server are updated to be the same.
I would recomend that you do not allow folders to get too big as it would take longer to synch.
    more info on IMAP:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/imap-synchronization
Can you see an 'All Mail' folder?
This is gmails copy of all your emails, so it is gmail Archive of your emails.
This folder can get huge. As it only shows you what you already have in other folders, it also doubles the size of your Profile and can take a while to download. It is recommended that you do not subscribe to see this folder.

  • Android device synching with iCloud Cal, Contacts & To-Do's?

NOTE: I am also looking on Android-specific websites/forums for answers, but there must be thousands of Mac users who are also Android users, and who have had similar questions.
I have an iMac, iPad(3), and iPhone G3. The iMac and iPad are synched via iCloud. The iPhone 3G, for reasons only Apple knows, can not. For cost reasons, I am soon moving from the iPhone G3 to a Motorola Atrix HD.
Can someone suggest methods to synch calendar, contacts and to-do data between iCloud and this Android device? Can I, for example, use a Google account, synch data betwen my Mac and Google's calendar and to-do's, then synch the Motorola to Google? Are there more straighforward methods?

I have not used icloud myself as i only have a macbook pro.
Calander sync: if you use google calander and import that into osx calander and android calander evertthing should be in sync. add an event to calander on osx it syncs to google calander then update the calander on android and they should be in sync.
Emails: with imap email account its easy. eg set up a gmail imap in osx mail it will sync with gmail. set up your gmail imap on your android device and everything will sync.
Contacts: using something like google contacts is a good idea. you can easily sync them to all os much the same as google calander and imap email.
To-Do Lists: using google tasks is a good idea for to-do lists, reminders etc.
Icloud alternitaves: there are my alternatives to icloud that are cross platform.  dropbox, shugar sync, google sync to name some. these work the same as icloud.   just install the app on each os and your up and running. you can sync much the same as icloud, music, emails, calanders, even files for sharing. etc. there is also a multi cloud service that can sync your different cloud servers together easily, its called cloud hq.
google is just one set of cloud apps, yahoo, windows live, and others provide similar services to google that i use.
my main computer is my macbook pro, I have an andrid phone, an old windows pc, and several linux os. using the above i can happily be in sync with everything.
also there are many cross platform applications you can use on all platforms that can make things easy.  firefox, chrome, opera (browsers), thunderbird (email), dropbox (cloud sync) etc etc it all depends on what you want to do, what you need etc.
ok thats enough rambeling for now hope this helps you in some way.

  • 2-way sync with Gmail

I am trying to establish 2-way sync between my Gmail account and iCal and Mac Address Book on my computer. One way synch from Gmail to the Mac works fine, but changes made in iCal or Mac address book do not sync to Gmail. I set up the sync on the Mac in iCal and Address Book using Preferences/sync with Google. Many thanks.

    Hi gjrc,
The address lookup feature is only available when using a BlackBerry Enterprise Server. If your company has switched to GMail for their mail service, they would not be using BlackBerry Enterprise Server anymore.

  • Yosemite Mail still has sync problems with Gmail - any solutions?

I notice that Yosemite Mail still has sync problems with Gmail. After running for some hours, I noticed there were 6 emails in my Gmail account that had not synced over the past hour.
In the meanwhile, for safety's sake (don't want to miss emails!) I'm back to Mailplane. But I wonder if anybody knows of a solution to this long term problem first introduced in Mavericks. Works fine in iOS Mail though.
    Thanks,
    doug

I don't think we'll ever have a "best of both worlds" Doug. I've used Gmail since the week it launched the first beta in 2004, and it's always been a bit of a love-hate relationship for me (mostly love). With the demise of the Google Notifier for Mac, I went with Mailplane, but even it has problems. Like when I see my iPhone update with new mail and I'm looking at Mailplane and it won't update at times with even a forced refresh. I often have to close/reopen it to see new messages. But, it's hard to live without my Google Calendar only a tab click away, one of the primary reasons I use Mailplane, that plus changing view zoom sticks with Mailplane and won't with Gmail.
For years I've thought Gmail labels were the perfect filing solution, but over the past few weeks I've been analyzing just how much I really use that feature, and for me...it's not all that much. I think I could simplify my life by putting everything into appropriate folders (as in all other email apps). Apple doesn't realize just how much money they're losing by not allowing people to use private domains with iCloud mail...which I would do in a heartbeat just because it would work perfectly with Mail.app. I would pay even more than I currently pay Google for this solution with Google Apps Business. So, I'm actually on the verge of moving my private domain to the best email service I can find and then using it with Mail.app. The problem here, of course, is I'll lose the best spam control on the planet (Gmail). So, as you say, there simply is not a "best" solution for all these things. I'll at least try a new email service first with some other domain to see how I like it before moving my primary email.
Lastly, the other thing that incenses me is synching of flags between iOS and Apple Mail. It works fine between Gmail and iOS Mail, since all I care about is whether a message is starred/flagged or not.  But using Apple Mail, when I flag a message it will not show as flagged in their own iOS Mail, which is incomprehensible, given they built both apps.
If you find a great solution or discover anything new...please post it here, Doug. Thanks.

  • Email with GMail account

I have set up my GMail email account on N95 successfully. However, after I downloaded any new emails, all the previously downloaded emails had gone. How can I retain those downloaded emails?
    Thanks!

I don't think there's any way you can, it's more like a synch with the Inbox, so when you've deleted them from there, next time you check your email on your phone, they'll be gone from there too

  • Notes stuck inside iPad - should sync with Gmail

I have been blithely taking notes on my iPad thinking they were syncing with Gmail, however, although the notes sync in the gmail account had been enabled, nothing has syncronized since March. Fortunately, I at least have a back up of the notes within the backup of the entire system.
So, I just noticed I have a problem because I just bought a macbook and iphone and want to syncronize across all three platforms. I should note that adding notes in icloud does syncronize. However, unlucky me, I had my notes in Gmail because the iOs configuration template led me to believe this was a viable option, and by the way, I seem to believe I have been doing this longer than iCloud existed.
So, here are my problems with notes:
    1. This one is a nuisance but not a real problem: When I turn off the notes feature in the gmail account settings in the accounts template (the one that has the gmail logo on it) - all my notes disappear on the ipad. I was told that this is because the ipad believe this is syncronizing. HOWEVER, it is not, so Apple should have a warning prompt just like they do in their own icloud settings, presumably for their own icloud they believe it is synchronizing - so why a warning for one but not the other. If I knew they would be removed from the device when I turned the notes off, I wouldnt have done this.
NB: I had the same gmail account which was intended but failing to synch with notes correctly configured and doing all the good things it should when configured through the exchange template in Mail Accounts.
    2. The real problem: After 5 hours with tech support and on hold -- I know, surreal -- the senior advisor told me to email the notes to myself, and that there was nothing else to do. I'm posting in the hope that there is something else to do, i would like to think I can migrate the notes ostensibly from gmail, but really only on my ipad to icloud or something. I have enough notes that this is reasonably annoying to accomplish one by one.

I fell your pain and no thereis no good solution to this nasty issue. However you can view your Outlooknotes on your iOS devices but I had to do a sync via PC iTunes and sync cable to each device (iPhone 4 and iPad 2) not a very good solution (no support for OTA iCloud sync, LAME!). Then when the Outlook notes arrive on my iOS device in the Notes app its under a separatefolder "From My PC". All notes generated on your iOS devices are in the folder [email protected] or iCloud folder.  Further more if you go to your iCloud webpage you will only see the notes you generated from your iOS devices (if youhave Notes sync turned on) and you can't edit them nor can you create new notes from the iCloud webpage interface! Extremely sad and downright terrible migration from Mobile Me.  These are simple text notes this should not be so difficult but Apple chose to treat them the same as email messages basically and made a flashy "Notes App" just like the new iOS 5 "RemindersApp" same thing.
If you’re like me and your looking to go away from your Outlook Notes and just want to put all notes into the Apple Notes then you need to use one of your iOS devices and manually cut and past the notes one at a time from your "From My PC" folder then create a new one on in your iCloud folder. This is also so darn ********! You should be able to select all do a copy then go to the iCloud folder and past, done (but you can't)! With hundreds of Notes collected over the years you’re not likely going to manually open each one select all, copy close and create a new note in the iCloud folder....  and by the way I'm not looking to load Evernot at this time so stop suggesting exporting my Outlook notes to Evertnote, this is not a solution to this issue.
    Apple are you listening!?
