Synching without MobileMe

Hi,
Without MobileMe, is the only way to sync my iPhone with my Mac is via cable? ... In other words, is it not possible to sync via Wi-Fi home network?
Thank you in advance!
PS. I have iPhone 3gs running iOS 4.2

Cable is it for direct sync. An alternative is to sync Google Calendar/contacts with your Mac and your iPhone with Google.

  • ICal not Synching w/ MobileMe

Ok, so I have been using iCal on my Mac for years and everything has been working fine. I am able to view and update the calendars remotely using my two iphones and www.me.com. Recently, I have been adding and making changes to the calendars in iCal, but none of the changes are synching with MobileMe. I have tried automatic and manual syncs, but nothing works. Originally, I thought it was an iPhone issue that I could not see new events on the phone, however, even when I go out to the calendar at www.me.com, the new events are not showing up their either. The new events, however, are showing up when I publish a new version of the calendar, but not through MobileMe. I am thinking it is an iCal to MobileMe issue. Any suggestions?

I am having the same problem with iCal not syncing. I have 3 Macs (iMac, Macbook, and G5 Tower) that are all normally synced using MobileMe and 2 iPhones that sync as well, but the computers just stopped syncing the other day. It seems to be an Apple problem but I don't know how to remedy it. I've tried what has worked for some other folks here where you changed the sync to the computer from the mobile me in sys prefs but once the main computer that holds the calendar has a change it messes up the others again. It's becoming very frustrating and I can't seem to get to the proper link on the support pages to get an Apple tech to help. I noticed on the Mobile Me page it says that they did an update the other day that could affect peoples syncing but it says it's now resolved. Not for me, anyone has any thoughts I'd sure appreciate it.

  • Asynch-Synch without BPM

    Hello,
We have an asynch to synch (File to RFC) which was successfully done using the blog (aysnch-synch without BPM). The interface works fine except when there are failures. Whenever there is a mapping failure, the module bean waits and does not process it which is a perfect synchronous behavior.  However is there a way to make use of the asynchronous property of the sender file adapter (which is to read the incoming files, archive them and may be queue them after the archive step incase of failures).  I tried the callsapadapter before the module bean call but it doesnu2019t seem to do the trick. Any advise is very helpful.
    Teresa

    Hi,
It seems your scenario is working fine as per the blog.
For archiving files in sender file adapter you have an option..in processing mode you can select Archive so that files that have been successfully processed are moved to an archive directory.
Under Archive Directory, enter the name of the archive directory.
If you want to archive the files on the FTP server, set the Archive Files on FTP Server indicator. If you do not set the indicator, the files are archived in the Adapter Engine file system.
    Thanks

Yes, if you are using the same Apple ID on the other devices.

  • Synching ONE MobileMe calendar with TWO iphones

I keep reading that it's possible to synch a MobileMe calendar with TWO iphones but cannot find out HOW to do so. I presume that SHARING a calendar is different from SYNCHRONISING a calendar. Sharing a calendar seems to me to be cumbersome in that it involves sending an invitation which then must be specifically dealt with by the recipient. SYNCHRONISING a calendar though presumably means updating a calendar entry automatically. It works with one iphone. How can it be made to work with two iphones? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

my OG iPhone won't sync with my MobileME calendar. Is that because the OG phone can't be updated to ios4?
And if that's the problem is there any alternative for syncing the OG iPhone's calendar (which is now empty)?

  • How can I enable synch without losing my apps?

    Hello,
I read the forums and I cannot find a solution to my unique situation.
I have a 2nd gen iPod Touch and synced apps and music with iTunes and everything was mostly great. The only problem was the slowness of iTunes so I started using MediaMonkey instead to transfer music. I also downloaded apps exclusively through wifi, so I never bothered to sync my iPod with iTunes for months. Then I upgraded the harddrive, did a clean install of Windows, and sold my old harddrive. It was not possible to sync my iPod anymore and I didn't care because MediaMonkey/Wifi worked perfectly for my needs ...
Until I installed firmware 3.1! Now MediaMonkey crashes and I can't add/remove songs from my iPod. So I was going to wipe my iPod and give the new version of iTunes another try, but now I am worried about losing all the apps I've downloaded over wifi. I've logged into iTunes and I cannot find a record of apps that I have downloaded/purchased. *Which brings me to my question: How can I enable synch without losing my apps?* I'm particularly worried about the apps that were free when I got them but they now cost money.
    Thank you for your time,
    bougatsa

The "File -> Transfer Purchases" option didnt work at first, but then I clicked around and managed to get this new computer image added to the new Home Sharing feature. Now all my iPod apps have been transferred to my local iTunes apps folder, thank you Julian!
And Anna, thank you (tack?), I believe you that it works but now that I have my apps locally I won't try I'm sure you'll understand.
I had bad thoughts of ditching my iPod for something else but I won't now! This forum rocks! Thank you all again

  • How to sync iCal between iPhone and MacBookPro without MobileMe?

    Hello,
How can I sync iCal between iPhone and MacBookPro without MobileMe?
I'm still using MobileMe, but I will stop soon.
I'm using my iPhone in India a lot to create new events or to add new contacts. At the end of the day I would like to able to sync it with my MacBookPro without using MobileMe. Internet Connection is often very bad in that area. The iPhone I only use without UMTS and all that Data Transfering stuff. Best for me would be to sync directly by wire or Bluetooth if possible. If you have a solution with and without Internet Connection, that would be very helpfull to me.

On the Mac, in iTunes with iPhone attached, click on the iPhone section. Go to the "info" tab. There you will see a list of items that can be synced. Make sure that "sync addressbook contacts" is checked, along with the appropriate choices under it.
Don't know what else to say, it works fine here.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using iPhone and iTunes on new computer: synch without losing music, etc.

I had to purchase a new computer (Gateway) as laptop crashed. I downloaded iTunes but can't synch as I get the message my phone can only synch to one iTunes library (the one on my laptop); if I want it to synch it will erase everything currently on my phone. How do I make the new computer the primary one for my iPhone and synch without everything being erased from my phone (music, pictures biggest concern). Thanks.

  • Saving iphone contact info prior to synching with mobileMe

I have contact info on my iphone that isn't stored anywhere else; It has just been transferred from one cell phone to another for several years. I also have other contact info on Google Contacts, and have synched the goog info to mobileMe. Is it possible to save/upload the iphone's contact info to MobileMe without having to manually re-enter all this info into goog or mobileme? I can't seem to find a way to do this after a great deal of research.

  • ICal not synching on MobileMe

Using 10.5.7. I have successfully synched Ical and Address Book for quite some time. Now synching is not working correctly. I reset the data to replace the info on Mobile Me with the data on my computer. The synch appeared to work right, but on Mobile Me I'm getting the message "MobileMe is unable to load your calendar." I have quit MobileMe and reloaded but get the same message.

I just had the same problem! Ical events would not sync with my computer or mobile me. FIRST FIRST make a back-up of your address book!! address book>file>export>address book archive>desktop. I say this because I didnt and lost it all with the step to fix it. Luckily I had a backup on a third Mac. Anyway, go to IPHONE settings and delete your mobileme mail account. Next create a new account (same name and password) in iphone mail settings >add account. It should sync pretty quickly. The inability to sync only happened after I updated to the new MMS software.----* How I retrieved my data from third Mac??? BEFORE syncing( I always set sync manually in case something like this happens. )I went to my mac settings>mobileme>sync>advanced(lower rt corner)>reset sync data>highlight arrow GOING to cloud>replace. This send my data from third mac to cloud and all contacts and ical events pop up on my iphone.

  • Can I get Apple's Backup to work without MobileMe?

I've moved to a "new" (well, to me) Early 2008 MacBook Pro with 10.6.8. With my old iMac G4, I used Apple's Backup program. I have their version for Leopard and installed it. It won't work, though. It gives an "exceeds trial limit" warning because it can't confirm that I have a valid MobileMe subscription. I'm NOT using the backup to iDisk, just to an external HD. I paid for MobileMe (well, .Mac) for years and had no problem with backing up with the iMac on 10.3.9. Does anyone know of a way around this?

Here's are some additional thoughts on the subject.
Would you need to get yet another external hard drive?  Maybe. Lets examine what you do have.
Your "working drive" is the OWC... okay. I assume you use this for your every day photo work, editing, printing, etc. You have copies of all your photos on the LaCie drive, and backup this OWC drive to where?
Your "pristine drive" is the LaCie... I think this is a key drive for you. You definitely want to backup the LaCie... eventually it WILL fail (they all do) and you don't want to be in that situation without a backup. I would consider buying "yet another" hard drive for this drive alone, and keeping it tucked away somewhere safe, off site. That will mean that once a week or so you bring it home and update the backup, but your data won't be lost should some unspeakable catastrophe strike your workspace.
2TB USB "spare drive"... used for what?  If you use this as backup for the OWC or for your daily User folder, or both, that's fine. I'd stick with that. To play it safe if you decide to use Time Machine, I would not recommend partitioning this drive and using any part of it to backup the LaCie. Mostly because it doesn't have the capacity. The rule of thumb for that being, as I understand it, 2x to 2.5x the capacity of the drive to be backed up. It should be fine the way you use it now, though.
So, would I recommend buying yet another hard drive for your situation? The answer is Yes. If for no other reason than to ensure you have a safe copy of the data on your pristine drive... the one you REALLY do not wish to lose to failure.
    Helpful?  I hope so.

  • IPhone without Mobileme syncs calendar

On Saturday I picked up a new 3G iphone and gave my old one (not 3G) to my wife. Had .mac on the old phone. Deleted that account and all my calendar entries and contacts disappeared from my old phone. OK. Then I couldn't get my new phone to sync contacts and calendar. So went to the Genius bar. The Genius, after 1 and half hours got my new 3G to sync calendars and contacts. It had no problem syncing mail.
Now the old phone, without my Mobilme (.mac) account still syncs calendar entries so they appear on both my cloud and my Mac desktop and my iPhone. When I connect the old iphone to itunes, it says it can't sync calendar or contacts because those are managed by Mobileme. My former .mac account is not on the old phone. I tried turning the phone off and on, but that didn't help. Now what?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Under Mail, Contacts, Calendar there is one account - a comcast email account and no other. On that account there is only mail settings - user name, email address, smtp, incoming mail server. "Fetch new data" is set to off. Push is set to off.
Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it.

  • Time mismatch synching  with mobileMe

I synch my Ical with mobileMe every day, looking at my calendar online I find a time mismatch: on my mac appointment at 1pm on Mobile at 4am for all the items.
Furthermore I sync my MacBook_1 with an other MacBook through MobileMe and all is ok no time mismatch.

  • Merging data without MobileMe

I have a MacBook, an iMac and a iPhone 3Gs. Currently, I use MobileMe to sync my calendars and contacts over all three devices, but it's time to renew and frankly, it's a bit above my budget.
I know that if I want to merge things that I've entered into my iPhone, I can simply do a physical sync with the iMac (the computer that's holding all my iTunes) but I don't sync with the laptop/MacBook because 1) I don't want to confuse the phone and 2) it doesn't have any of my iTunes library. But I do need my contacts and my calendars to be merged, so I'm trying to figure out how to do that without having to physically type in any new data.
    Any tips?

    Hi.
Has anyone figured out a way to merge data without confining each record to set text frame size, hence creating a continuous flow or wrapping of records?
I need to put in an image, followed by a text description, so I can't merge all the text into one text box.
I can fit frame to text, then align with set gap, but this is way to time consuming and ineffective when creating a doc of several 100 pages.
Searching Google for "indesign script combine all stories" without quotes turns up a number of links. There's a link to InDesign Secrets that describes a free script that may solve your problem.

  • Synch without Album Artwork

How do you transfer or synch music to the iPod without transfering the album work from iTunes

On the Classic, when connected to iTunes there is an option to not show artwork (I think it is on the "Music" tab of the iTunes info for your iPod). De-select that option and re-sync. If you manually manage the iPod contents, you may have to delete everything and re-copy the contents back to the iPod after you've changed this setting.
Any reason why you're doing this? If its to save space, keep in mind that artwork is only about 1% of the size of your media files. Also, removing artwork will not free up "space" on the display ... you'll just see a gray square with a music note.
