  • I am having trouble establishing file association between .PDF files and Adobe Reader.

    I am having trouble establishing file association between .PDF files and Adobe Reader.  When I click on a .PDF file, Adobe Reader does not open the file.  I installed Adobe Reader on a Lenovo G480 laptop using Windows 8.  When I attempted to open a file called I believe G480_user_guide.PDF, a file called something like Nitro_PDF opened.  When I right clicked G480_user_guide.PDF and chose Open With, I found that Nitro_PDF was the default program for opening the file.  I tried to change to another program but found that Adobe Reader was not listed.  I chose the option for searching the computer for a file to open.  I found the folder Adobe in Program Files x64 but I was not able to find an executable.  Where is the Adobe Reader executable or what other method can I use for establishing file association between .PDF files and Adobe Reader.

    Yes, I have now learned how to make a search with the Google search engine.  I am gradually learning how to use my new Lenovo laptop computer with Windows 8.  I learned yesterday that I can make a search with the Google search engine if I enter the search query in the address bar of the Google Chrome browser.  I think it was the Bing search engine that gave me the sites advertising Adobe Reader download but actually provided the download of a reader other than Adobe.
    In my opinion, Windows 8 is significantly different from Windows 7 and that it has hazards and pitfalls.
    I thank all of those who have replied to the initial inquiry.

  • Difference between db file sequential read and scattered read

    Hi,
    Oracle Version : 10.2.0.1
    Operating system: Linux
    Can any one please help me what is the difference between db file sequential read and scattered read or please give any best related links .
    Thanks & Regards,
    Poorna Prasad.

    >
    A sequential read is a single-block read. Single block I/Os are usually the result of using indexes.
    A db file scattered read issues a scattered read to read the data into multiple discontinuous memory locations. A scattered read is usually a multiblock read. It can occur for a fast full scan (of an index) in addition to a full table scan.

  • Differnce between byte[] reading and int[] reading

    While reading information from file using fileInputStream ....
    Is there any differnce between byte[] reading and int[] reading ?

    Well, in as much as you can do the former and not the latter.
    FileInputStream just reads blocks of bytes. If you want to read more sophisticated element you need to wrap in in a DataInputStream or a Reader.

  • What is the difference of  public-read and  public-read protected

    I have noticed that the access of some variables in API document is public-read protected. I tried the following code. They seem all the same.
    class FatherClass{
    public-read var a;
    public-read protected var b;
    init{
        a=1;
        println(a);
        b=1;
        println(b);
    class SubClass extends FatherClass{
        init{
            a=4;
            println(a);
            b=4;
            println(b);
    var subClass=SubClass{};

    As you see in my code, subclass can write the variable with either public-read and public-read protected. What write access do the public-read protected widen? That's because your subclass is in the same script as the variable. Move the subclass to a separate script and it would not be able to write when the access is public-read.
    "public-read" = any code can read, code in the same script can write.
    "public-read protected" = any code can read, code in the same script, in the same package or in a subclass can write.

  • Nonrepeatable Reads and Phantom Reads

    Guys, I am very confuse about the definitions of Nonrepeatable Reads and Phantom Reads when I read the BEA Documentaion in http://e-docs.bea.com/workshop/docs81/doc/en/wls/guide/advanced/EJBsAndTransactions.html
    The definition was queit confusing to me because they seems to describe the same thing, but it is obviously not the same thing. The problem is to see the difference among then.
    What is that difference? Could I have an practical example of that difference?
    Thanks everyone

    Non-Repeatable reads: When a row is updated in database. 2 reads may not return same data.
    Phantom reads is where a new row is inserted into the database, hence the 2 selects may not return same set of data.

  • Find physical reads and logical reads ?

    Hi,
    how will find out physical reads and logical reads ?

    Well I would suggest you read the report from statspack/awr.They as suggested by Amit,have a load profile section.That would be helpful for you in finding the details of this thing. Also which version you are? If you are in 10g than the EM is able to give you a compare period report where you can compare 2 different days's periods information and can check which particular part has changed.
    In addition to this , look for the information of the metrics in the documentation.As the physical read and logical reads are statistics which are happening in the system.So from 10g onwards, oracle is keeping a track in the deflectionin the statistics. So if you see that than it willbe easy for you to manage and monitor it.
    I shall try to findthe name of some views related to it and post.

  • Have downloaded both Adobe reader and PDF reader, but when I attempt to open a pdf from a site on safari, it starts to load, then disappears.  Any way to fix this?

    Have downloaded both Adobe reader and PDF reader, but when I attempt to open a pdf from a site on safari, it starts to load, then disappears.  Any way to fix this?

    Try quitting the PDF apps and Safari like I describe below. Then reset the iPad. After it starts try again.
    Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Conflict between Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader and how I fixed it

    For the past 5 years, I have owned Adobe Acrobat version 9, and recently installed Adobe Reader as well (version 10.7). I was previously able to set up Firefox to use Acrobat to display PDF files in the browser without downloading them, but I recently noticed that this was no longer the case. Instead, every PDF file I tried to view was being downloaded instead. I came here to find a solution, and discovered that many other people are having similar problems. I followed the instructions given here (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/view-pdf-files-firefox-without-downloading-them), but found that they were actually UNhelpful. They tell you to turn off the Firefox PDF viewer by editing about:config to disable the file pdfs.js, which is the native Firefox PDF viewer-- but that will cause the PDF file type to disappear from the Tools/Options dialog, so you can't assign it to another program (whether Adobe or anything else). This makes it impossible to assign the Adobe plugin to open PDF files. I did figure out a solution on my own, and wanted to post it here to help other users with the same problem.
    I ultimately learned, through trial and error and a lot of research both here and on Adobe's website, that the root cause of my problem was a conflict in Firefox between Acrobat and Reader. I was able to solve it by upgrading Acrobat, getting rid of Reader and enabling the Firefox PDF viewer so that I could assign the PDF file type to the Acrobat plugin within Firefox. Here are the details of my problem and how I solved it:
    1. Acrobat and Reader conflict with each other in Firefox, but this isn't totally Firefox's fault. It's mostly Adobe's fault, and they pretty much admit it. Specifically, they say that Acrobat and Reader can't coexist on the same machine unless both are version 10 or higher. They tell you to upgrade to solve the problem--but I can't afford to pay for a new version of Acrobat. If you have to keep Acrobat 9.x, Adobe says the lowest version of Reader that will work with it is Reader 11. I couldn't upgrade to this because I have Vista, and Adobe hasn't issued Reader 11 for Vista (and doesn't plan to). I did cheat and download the Win 7 version of Reader 11, but it didn't help.
    2. If you have both Acrobat and Reader, you can choose a setting in Reader to make it the default PDF handler--but Firefox ignores this information and defaults to Acrobat no matter what. (This is the part we can blame Firefox for.) If you have a version of Acrobat which is below 9.5.5, Firefox actually blocks it as a security risk, so the plugin won't work at all, regardless of version number. That's why PDFs are being downloaded through your standalone program instead of being displayed in the browser. If you want to view PDFs in Firefox and keep Acrobat on your computer, you MUST upgrade Acrobat to version 9.5.5 or above.
    3. Unless you can upgrade Acrobat to at least 10.x, GET RID OF READER. As long as you can access Acrobat 9.5.5, it will work fine in Firefox and there's no need for Reader. I never used to have Reader myself, only Acrobat, but it must have been downloaded automatically when Acrobat was blocked by Firefox (which I didn't even realize).
    4. IF YOU NEED TO UPGRADE ACROBAT 9.X TO 9.5.5, YOUR LAST CHANCE IS TODAY--6/26/13. Adobe has announced that today is the "end of life" for the Acrobat 9.x platform, and all support and upgrades will cease after today.
    When I searched for updates by going to Adobe's website, it told me there were none available--but when I checked for them FROM THE ACROBAT PROGRAM ITSELF (Help/Check for updates), I was offered a 300 MB upgrade that took me all the way from version 9.0 to 9.5.5 in one step. (It did take a very long time to download and install.)
    5. Once you have Acrobat 9.5.5, this is how to enable it in Firefox:
    a. INSIDE ACROBAT, set your preference for "Internet" to "view PDF files in browser." Close Acrobat. Close Firefox if it's already open.
    b. Reopen Firefox. Check Tools/Add-Ons/Plugins to make sure the Acrobat plugin is there. Enable it if disabled. Close Firefox.
    If the plugin isn't there at all, repair your Acrobat installation through Control Panel. Then return to Firefox and enable it. Close Firefox.
    c. Reopen Firefox again. Go to Tools/Options and check the list of file types. For the names that contain "Adobe" and "Acrobat," Acrobat should be set as the default program to open them. Select it from the drop-down list if it's not. Continue to scroll through the alphabetical list--you should see another entry called Portable Document Format. If it's there, the default will be "preview in Firefox." You should be able to change this to "Acrobat (in Firefox)" using the drop-down menu. Do NOT pick the option that says "Acrobat"--this is the standalone program and will cause your PDFs to be downloaded.
    If you don't see "Acrobat (in Firefox)" as an option, this means your plugin is not working. Go back and fix it using the instructions above (including repair of Acrobat if necessary).
    d. If you don't see a file type for "Portable Document Format" at all, that means the Firefox PDF viewer is disabled. You must enable it by editing the about:config file. To see it, type about:config in the Firefox address bar. You will get a warning message--just click OK and keep going.
    This file is a long list of statements in alphabetical order. LOOK FOR A STATEMENT THAT SAYS "pdfjs.disabled" with a Boolean value of "true." Select this statement and right-click. A context menu will offer you choices including "Toggle." Select that one, which will change the Boolean value to "false." Exit about:config. Close Firefox.
    e. Now return to Tools/Options, scroll through the list of file types, and you should see "Portable Document Format." Select "Acrobat (in Firefox)" as in the instructions above. Close Firefox.
    f. The first time you try to open a PDF file in Firefox, you may get a dialog box which offers you choices of how to open the file. The first will be Acrobat, but DON'T CHOOSE THAT--it will cause your PDF to download. Instead, go to the choice that says "Open as application/pdf." You don't need to change the program that opens this file type, because your settings are already correct. Your PDF should open in the browser, with the full-featured Acrobat menu (including the option of editing or saving the file).
    I hope other users can benefit from the truly painful experience I had figuring all of this out. Good luck.

  • Process using Webservice in Reader and Writer becomes slow while connecting processors

    Hi,
    I have a process that reads from a web service and writes to a web service. When I try to modify the code(after stopping the running process) by adding new processors or change the current connections, the connecting arrows take forever to connect and sometimes the director hangs for a long time. There is no issue in other processes where I read and write from staged data.
    How to overcome this isue?
    Appreciate the help!
    Regards,
    Ravi

    Hi Nick,
    Thanks for the advice. In the scenario where upgrade is not an option, is there any workaround to this issue?
    What I've found is if I strip the next processor of all its connections, then it gets connected to the previous processor pretty quick.
    EDQ hangs if the processor has other input/output connections and I try to connect it to another processor)
    P1>---<P2>    <P3 ---------- P2 to P3 connects fast as P3 is standalone
    P1>---<P2>    <P3>---<P4> ---------- In this case,  when I try to connect P2 to P3, it hangs forever.
    I've a complex process and just for adding a few processors in between, I will not be able to connect the rest of the processors all over.
    Regards,
    Ravi

  • Synchronisation between an Acquisition and a Timer

    Hello,
    I work with LabView 6.i, with a DAQ-device type PCI 6040E and a block-connector type SC-2345. I have the following problems: First one, I want to synchronise an acquisition AI (1000 Hz, 16 channels) with a timer generation (Counter 1), and second one, I want to acquire (Counter 0) synchronously like a NI-TIO-based device.
    I want to know every millisecond the number of pulses I get at the source pin of Counter 0, so I use the Counter 1 to generate a 1000 Hz square signal which I put at the gate pin of the Counter 0 and then I count the number of impulses I get at the source pin of the Counter 0. Moreover, this countering must be synchronised with my acquisition.
    1)     To solve my synchronisation problem, I looked at examples in the help of LabView like the Simul AIAO BufTrig(E-series) and tried to do the same as shown but I am not sure whether I have to wire “hardwarely” the PFI0-line with any signal or if it is done internally. Where can I find information about hardware-wiring of trigger signals ?
    2)     To solve my synchronous countering, I also looked at examples in the help of LabView and I read in the description of the VI Counter Set Attribute that it is not possible to count synchronously with my DAQ-device, it is only possible with NI-TIO-based devices. I want to know how many impulses I get every second at the source pin of the Counter 0. If I select for the task type of the VI Group Config the task Buffered Event Counting, it sums the number of impulses and it is not what I want, and if I select for the task type of the VI Group Config the task Buffered Period Measurement, it counts the number of impulses I get every millisecond but if I do not get any impulse during a millisecond, it takes automatically the previously impulse number and it is also not what I want. I want to know the number of impulses I get every second but also if I do not get any impulse, it should give me the number zero !

    Hallo,

  • AWR's buffer cache reads and logical reads

    In AWR report under "Segments by Logical Reads" section, there is a total logical reads, I assume it is in unit of block. Under "IOStat by Function summary" section, it has buffer cache reads in unit of bytes. Shouldn't the number of logical reads x 8k (if the block size is 8k) = the number of buffer cache reads?
    They are not equal, not even close, does anybody know why? Thanks

    Hi,
    buffer gets = number of times a block was requested from buffer cache. A buffer get always request in a logical read. Depending on whether or not a copy of the block is available in the buffer cache, a logical read may or may not involve a physical read. So "buffer gets" and "logical reads" are basically synonyms and are often used interchangeably.
    Oracle doesn't have a special "undo buffer". Undo blocks are stored in rollback segments in UNDO tablespace, and are managed in the same way data blocks are (they're even protected by redo). If a consistent get requires reading from UNDO tablespace, then statistics counters will show that, i.e. there will be one more consistent get in your autotrace.
    For more information and some examples, see a thread at askTom:
