Synchronise audio in FCP

How do you synchronise audio in FCP--say, taking the dialogue from one take and putting it into another take and making the audio match the mouth movements?

is the dialog track from a second audio source that you want to match to the audio that was recorded with the video itself? or do you have separate video only / audio only clips you want to sync?
For either case, the place to start is to select both clips in the Event Browser and choose "Synchronize Clips" from the Clip menu. This will create a new compound clip in the Event Browser.
In the first case, FCPX will have tried to automatically sync the audio for you, and will have disabled the original audio so you are now just using the second audio source.
In both cases, if the audio is not in sync, select the newly created compound clip and "Open In Timeline" (again, from the "Clip" menu).
Now you must manually do the sync yourself by moving the audio to match the video. Once you are done, you can use this compound clip anywhere you like and audio will remain synced.

    Thanks Steven.
big help. In our session we keep getting this problem where the song counter stops, the music keeps playing and we get an error message saying:
Non Tempo-Event found in Sync Reference
We looked in the tempo list and somehow there was a tempo event of 0.00 tempo in there.
We deleted it, got the same error message, but the prob seems to be fixed.
    Apple, please fix this!

  • Error message trying to synchronise audio and midi sample rate 42463

I have a Rode Podcaster mic that is terrific. It has been working fine in GB. suddenly I am getting this when I try to record my podcast:
'Error message trying to synchronise audio and midi sample rate 42463 recognised. Check conflict between Garageband and external device'
Has anyone experienced this before? How do I resolve it? I'm still using my Version 6.0.5.
Apple, is this a way of forcing me to upgrade to V10?

Just click the icon on each track that stops it acting as a live input. It looks like a sound wave. Only have them clicked orange when using the track to record! I don't know if that will solve your problem!

  • Error while trying to synchronise audio and midi

    Hi
Logic worked all day and suddenly start giving this message:
error while trying to synchronise audio and midi.
Nothing was changed and we also have no sound.
We don't have any midi device, its just the G5 and Logic installed.
Any idea how to solve this issue.

Someone else has been having this problem and I've tried to help 'cos it used to happen to me too. Try adjusting your I/O buffer level in your Logic Audio Driver preferences - raise it a bit higher and the problem should go away. Problem is you get more latency. (I'm assuming it's set lower than 512, but not knowing your audio hardware... and your not using internal audio are you???)

  • Missing Audio from FCP to Soundtrack Pro in Final Cut Studio 2

I've been trying to edit a sequence from Final Cut Pro 6 in Soundtrack 2 by sending the sequence to soundtrack as a multitrack project. For some reason, when I send it, multiple audio files from the original sequence are completely missing, and I have no clue why. They're .mov files from the original import of footage.
Anyone know why these don't transfer and how to fix it?

    Hi
I too have had trouble with Audio from FCP 6 messing up in STP 2. My opinion is that the process works if the audio tracks in FCP are either Mono sourced or stereo sourced and are never relinked, split to mono (in the case of stereo files) in FCP during editing. God forbid you unpair a stereo track and delete one channel!
Once in STP I have had occasions where non audio appears, the wrong track appears... or sometimes the wrong audio!
Once in a while double clicking on the offending clip in STP to open it in a Wave window seems to show the right audio. Either saving it of closing the window ( command/w) restores the right material to the clip in STP.
You could right click on the audio in FCP and "send to STP Audio Project". Hopefully the correct audio is opened in STP. Then save it. Now re-export the Multitrack project and see if the audio makes the trip.
Or, you could export the Audio directly from FCP, then import it into STP and position it against the video manually.
One warning : once things start going pear shaped in the FCP-STP workflow, it's my experience that I'm fighting problems all the way. It's why I don't use STP for FCP mixing .... I want to, but its too risky.
    I hope V3 is better.

    Cordialement.

  • No audio in FCP after iinstalling "Wiretap"

I just installed Wiretap utlility from Ambrosia.
Suddenly, I can't hear audio in FCP. The waveform is there, but
    no sound.

You are playing with fire when you install 3rd party apps, particularly when they are audio and/or video. I can understand why you'd want to and I do it occasionally, but I try and religiously clone my startup drive, so if things go south, I can quickly restore my system to it's previous working state. I'm glad you were able to solve your problem, but if you depend on your system for your livelihood...

  • Normalising audio in FCP - How?

  • Hear no audio in FCP 5

I have imported clips with both video and audio to FCP 5 on my G3 Mac OSX version 10.4.11.  I can hear the clips using Quicktime viewer; but no audio when in FCP.  I see the audio meter "reading" the audio, so there is audio playing in the timeline.  There is no audio through my speakers nor through the headphones. Thanks in advance, for any assistance!!

Can I guess that these video clips have NOT been converted to codecs that FCP works with? Say, AVI, or MP4 or M4V...or .mov that is mpeg-2 or H.264.
FCP doesn't just work with any QT video format.  No, it is designed to work with BROADCAST video formats.  And you will need to convert those files to something FCP works with.  To see what those options are, look at the EASY SETUP list.
If you want to work with those formats as they exist, you need another NLE.  Adobe Premiere Pro handles this well.

  • How do I synchronise audio and video with an mpg file created in elements 11 ?

How do I synchronise audio and video with an mpg file created in Premier Elements 11 ?
The source files are VOB files, and there is no problem with those source files.  But after creating the mpg file, the audio can be out of sync by 1 second or even 10 seconds, and sometimes zero seconds (ie perfectly OK).  That varies.  The variation might be linked to some of the VOB files.  ie. some are OK, and some are not.
Can I fix this automatically in Elements 11, or am I doing something wrong ?

    Hartwood,
First, Premiere (both Pro and Elements) do not handle MPEG Audio perfectly - they like some files, but not all files with MPEG Audio. That makes a VOB a less-than-perfect source file. Still, with a bit of work, one should be able to edit it just fine. One of the factors is that there is a very slight block-size difference between the Encoded Video Stream and the Encode Audio Stream in a muxed MPEG-2 file. That often does not play into things, but can cause slight OOS (Out of Sync) issues. Also, both Premieres need to create all I-Frame files for the Video Stream, which is in GOP (Group of Pictures) structure, so what one sees on the Timeline is really a proxy of the MPEG-2 file's Video Stream. The Audio Stream must also be Conformed to PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 32-bit floating point, to be edited. That Conforming is perfect when one has PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit for the Audio Stream, but requires more work, when the Audio Stream is MPEG (one reason that some MP3's do not work well in Premiere). Several factors involved here, and a fair amount of work for the program. That is why DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio works so perfectly.
Now, fixing OOS might be easy, or might require a bit more work. This article goes into some workflows, that might be helpful: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/436751?tstart=0
I can feel your pain, as I almost went crazy trying to fix OOS in a client's Project. They ONLY had the finished DVD, from which to work. The disc met the DVD-standards, so everything ripped/Imported fine, and when the simple edits were done (IIRC, there were four scenes, that had to be shortened, and then several Titles added), everything played fine in the Timeline. However, when I Transcoded that Timeline to be authored in Adobe Encore, two scenes went OOS. I went back to Premiere, and checked - all perfect there. I tried to judge the number of Frames that the Audio was out, in those scenes, and nudged them, tested, nudged, tested, and no matter what I did, I could never get the output files perfect, when Imported into Encore for authoring to DVD-Video. I tried DV-AVI, and letting Encore set the Transcoding automatically (usually a great way to work), I tried manually setting the Transcoding in Encore. I tried outputting to MPEG-2 from Premiere, and Importing that. No matter what I did, those two scenes were just OOS, and I could not even seem to improve them - it was like they were just locked OOS. I finally did some more editing, to break things up a bit, added a cut-away shot here, and there, and minimized the perceived OOS, but could never get it perfect. It was like trying to pick up quicksilver with a pair of tweezers!
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Exporting synchronised audio?

    Hi,
I've a question about prores clips that have been synchronised audio from an external recorder. As I've learned the process is hugely simple in FCPX, but I believe the person who will actually be editing is using 7.
What is the best way to sync my clips with the relevant audio in X, creating the clips with 'Synchronized' in the file name, and quickly transfer them onto my external drive, ready to be imported into FCP7 with the editor?
The only thing I can think of is to do them one by one in the timeline and export a master file. Or do them in chunks in larger timelines.
Just wanted to check as I would ideally like to keep them as individual clips, with all their lovely Prores post flexibility.
    Thanks very much!

    Danny:
    ¡Qué viva España ! ;D
but on Tv sounds too compressed!!!
How did you get your movie on the TV? Did you build a DVD? Are you listening through TV speakers? I don't think TV speakers are a good reference point to judge your audio mix. And how do you monitor your audio while editing?
You could try exporting your AIFF Audio and creating an audio CD and listening it through a good CD player with a good audio system attached.
Come back with some more info !

  • Capture and Export of Mono Audio in FCP HD

I have just upgraded to FCP HD from FCP 3. My problem is all of my audio needs to be Mono only. In v3 this was simple I just chose Mono from the capture settings and Mono for Export.
On FCP HD I can't find any way to capture and export as Mono. When I record Voice Over in FCP all I get is the right channel and even when I set it to pan centre it still only comes out the right speaker after export.
If I've got to manually duplicate tracks everytime it will take me forever.
Anybody know a simple way to capture and export Mono only (the same for both Ch 1 + 2)
    G4 DP 1.25   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

This might seem the long way 'round but it may save a ton of time in the end.
Do your FCP mix in stereo as Colin suggests, then take the final audio track into STP or Peak and do a "mix to mono" and then save a new AIFF file with the resulting mono clip.
Then bring that back into FCP on a new audio track, line it up with the stereo, then either disable or delete the stereo tracks. This will give you a true mono audio track.
But where are you going with this content that will handle mono audio? DVDs require a stereo AC3 files. Are you sure you really need a mono sound track?

  • Importing .mov or .mpg and not getting audio in FCP

I have both an Mpeg (as well as an .mov ) file that play in QuickTime Player beautifully with audio. When I import it into FCP I only get the video. This has been happening with many files that clients are bringing in and have not figured out a way to get the audio track into Final Cut. Any suggestions? Why will it accept the video, but not the audio? Thank you for your assistance in advance!!
    BR

    Hi,
Mpeg is not an editing format.
You need to demux video and audio and convert the original Mpeg in a FCP friendly format like DV or QT.
Your solution is likely MPEGstreamclip. Here it is:

    It'll do what you need.

  • Problems outputing audio from FCP into a mini dv

    hi there
i'm trying to output a video with 2 diferrent audio channels into a minin dv through a camera. everything is fine during output but when i check the tape the audio skips and sometimes sounds a little bit squeaking. i exported everything as .mov and imported back into FCP. so im outputting everything already rendered.
does any one have an idea why this is happening?
    thank you.

Could definitely be a problem with the camera, but... the most obvious thing is that your output from fcp doesn't match the format on the camera. Make sure that both are set to 48k 16 bit and that your camera is recording SP.

  • No Audio to FCP from digital 8 camera?

I've set up my new Imac with FCP and want to log and capture from my Digital 8
camcorder by way of firewire. The video is runnning in the capture window I have full camera control from my mouse but no audio. I think my audio settings are correct. Any help?
    Thanks,

    1st post.

Bingo! Audio Video and camera control. Thanks a ton(This hasn't been any fun yet). Is going through the camera better than going through the canopus?? It's my personal camera that I use to dump Hi8 home movies onto my emac at home. If it's better I'll sell work the camera and take the canopus back. Just bought this iMac for work & this is step 1 in transitioning from the analog to digital world. I have an Immix NLE system, professional Betacam, Hi-8 & VHS decks and will need to continue to get this footage into this new iMac. I'm going to buy a DVX100b to handle the new dv footage.
Also(sorry) when I'm done loading this Hi8 narration I have to switch to a rented the AG30 to dump mini DV footage for the narration. FCP6 doesnt recognize the AG30 can you believe that? FCP5 did. Do you have an answerfor that? I create educational training programs that are sold around the world. Does quality suffer going through the canopus?
    No more I promise.
