Synchronising Sent messages to Outlook

I'd have thought mine is a fairly common question, but I've not managed to find a specific answer on the Forum
I generally access my emails from my PC using Outlook as a client.  My wife now has an I phone, and whilst on holiday I accessed my emails using that.  By leaving all received (and useful!) emails in my Inbox, I was able to synchronise them into the Inbox in Outlook on our return.  My question is, how do I similarly synchronise the emails in my Sent folder from the BTYahoo Mail Server down to the Outlook Sent Folder on my PC
I thought I would be clever and simply move the Sent Messages across to the Inbox and synchronise from there.  However Outlook treats them as a new message and puts today's date on them!  How can I maintain the original date info so that Outlook sorts them into the correct order
As you can probably tell, I am not very computer literate, so please could you keep your responses simple!
Many thanks

This is a common "issue" with the way Gmail handles conversation style email.
First, I would set your phone up as a IMAP account with Gmail. Its a much better interface with the server now. Directions are here:
https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77702
Second, toggle your "recents" setting.
These two things will fix the issue.

You can disable the Adobe Reader plugin in Firefox (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and use the external Adobe Reader application or Preview application instead.

  • Applescript to choose folders to save sent messages in Outlook 2011 for MAC

I want to create a rule to apply to messages as they are sent that gives me a dialog box in which to choose what folder I want to save the copy of the sent message (instead of the regular default of the Sent Items folder).
I just moved from a PC to a MAC and I miss this feature on Outlook 2011 for the MAC as I like to keep my replies/new messages sent in the same folders by subject as I leave received messages.
I've looked everywhere for an AppleScript I could use as part of a rule that applies to messages as they are sent and brings up a dialog box to chose the folder in which to save the sent message.
Anybody able to help here? It would be much appreciated!

    Hi ZRANY,
First, you must be aware that “Mail does not apply rules to sent messages - if you want to organize your sent messages in mailboxes together with your received messages, you have to manually select all messages in your "Sent" mailbox and choose "Apply Rules to Selection" from the menu.” ([Mail Scripts 2.10.2|http://homepage.mac.com/aamann/Mail_Scripts.html]).
That being said, maybe the following very simple script could act as a starting point:
    *using terms from application "Mail"*
*on perform mail action with messages theMessages*
    *tell application "Mail"*
    *repeat with eachMessage in theMessages*
*set theSubject to subject of eachMessage*
*choose from list (get name of mailboxes) with title "My mailboxes" with prompt "Subject: " & theSubject & return & return & "Select a mailbox where to copy this message."*
*duplicate eachMessage to mailbox 1 whose name is (item 1 of result) as text*
    *end repeat*
    *end tell*
*end perform mail action with messages*
    *end using terms from*
    Hope it can help.

  • Sent messages aren't saved in the Sent Items folder in Outlook 2013

When we send a message in Outlook 2013, a copy of the message should be saved in the Sent Items folder by default. If Outlook doesn’t save a copy of the sent message, it may be caused by any one of the following
    reasons:
The “Save copies of messages in the Sent Items folder”
    option in Outlook is disabled.
The save location for sent messages was changed to another folder.
There is a custom view set on Sent Items folder, or the view on
    Sent Items is corrupt.
Outlook Data File may be damaged.
To resolve the issue, use the appropriate method for your situation.
Enable the Save copies of messages in the Sent Items folder
    option
To configure Outlook 2013 to save copies of your sent messages in the Sent Items folder, please follow these steps:
    1. Click File tab > Options.
    2. Click Mail on the left pane.
    3. Scroll to the Save Messages section, select the check box before “Save copies of messages in the Sent Items folder”.
    4. Click OK.
If it is the replying message that is not saving to the Sent Items folder, we need to disable the “When replying to a message that is not in the Inbox, save the reply in the same folder” option in the location mentioned above.
If you’re using an IMAP account, please also make sure you didn’t select the “Do not save copies of sent items” in Account Settings. To check this, Please refer to the following steps:
    1. In Outlook, click File tab > Info.
    2. Click Account Settings > Account Settings, and then double-click your IMAP account to open the
    Change Account wizard.
    3. Click More Settings button.
    4. Under Sent Items heading, clear the check box before “Do not save copies of sent items”.
    5. Click OK and click Next to complete the configuration.
Make sure there is no rule or anything else to redirect sent messages to other folders
To check if it is caused by Outlook rules, please follow these steps:
    1. In Outlook 2013, click Home tab.
    2. Click Rules > Manage Rules & Alerts.
    3. In the rules list, check if there is any rule that applied to the sent messages may cause this issue.
In addition, some rules may be corrupt or hidden and we cannot see them from the rules list. We need to use the MFCMAPI tool to find and delete the corrupt/hidden rules. To do this, we can use the following steps:
    1. Download MFCMAPI tool from: http://mfcmapi.codeplex.com/
    2. Start MFCMAPI tool.
    3. Click Session menu >
Logon, select the Outlook profile you are using and click OK.
    4. Double-click the mailbox that contains the inbox rules that you want to delete.
    5. A new window will open. In the new window, expand
Root Container or Root – Mailbox, and then expand
Top of Information Store or IPM_SUBTREE.
    6. Right click on Inbox and select
    Open associated contents table.
    7. In the Inbox window, locate and then right-click the items that have the
IPM.Rule.Message message class, and then click Delete Message.
To identify a specific rule, you’ll have to select the rule in the top pane in MFCMAPI and then scroll down in the lower pane and look at the
Property name(s) column. Find the ptagRuleMsgName property name and check the value against the rule name you were trying to delete in Outlook.
    8. In the Delete Item dialog, select
DELETE_HARD_DELETE from the Deletion Style drop-down menu.
    9. Click OK.
Reset the view settings on Sent Items folder
If you accidently changed the view settings on Sent Items folder, this may cause some sent messages not visible in the folder. To check if you’ve set any view settings on Sent Items folder, please follow:
    1. In Outlook, select Sent Items folder.
    2. Click View tab from the Ribbon.
    3. Click View Settings button. If you notice the
Reset Current View button is clickable, it means the view settings for Sent Items have been changed before.
    4. Click the Reset Current View button and then check the Sent Items folder again.
Scan and repair the Outlook Data File
To repair the .pst file, please follow:
    1. Find and start the Inbox Repair Tool in the following path:
For Outlook 2013 on a 32-bit version of Windows:
    <disk drive>\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15
For Outlook 2013 on a 64-bit version of Windows:
    <disk drive>\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15
    2. In the Inbox Repair tool, click Browse to locate the PST file by using the Windows file system.
    3. Click Start.
    4. After the analysis scan has completed, it will present you with a scanning report and options for the next step. Click Repair button.
To repair the .ost file, since this type of data file is a copy of information saved on your mail server, we can just delete the OST file and restart Outlook to re-create a new one.
For more information about repair Outlook data files, please refer to this article:

Same problem here, connecting to a Groupwise (not latest) server. Whenever Mail.app 3 tries to upload/save a new messsage to the server, it would not save and completely lose the message!
I found slightly more information by turning off the "Save to server" option for Sent and Drafts, created a new message that I saved as draft, and then tried to manually move items to the Drafts or Sent folder on the IMAP server.
The error I received was: The message <message> could not be moved to the mailbox <mailbox>-<account>. The IMAP command "APPEND" (to <mailbox>) failed with server error: APPEND NotJunk.
To my inexperienced eyes, it looks like the latest version of Mail changed it's default IMAP handling commands that may be incompatible with older IMAP servers. Anyone else have more insight or know how I can get back Mail.app 2.x from Tiger?

  • Sent messages from secondary account are not saved in Outlook 2011 for Mac

We are using a shared email account added in Outlook 2011 for Mac.  It's not the default account but we send from it often.
Whenever sending from this secondary mailbox, the message is not saved in sent items folder under the secondary mailbox or the default mailbox.  There seems to be no record of the sent item anywhere.
I verified the message is sent and received.
All microsoft updates have been applied and we are using Exchange 2010.

    Hello,
Please first log into OWA and check if the email are saved in the Sent Items folder.
We can tick the option "Save copies of messages in Sent Items folder" in Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013 to save a copy of sent message, please check if you get such option in Outlook for Mac.
In addition, in Outlook for Windows, we can change a registry key to force Outlook to save sent emails in the default or secondary mailbox, but I'm not sure if Outlook 2011 has such trick. See:

  • UTL_MAIL  sent messages do not appear in the outbox OUTLOOK

    Dear Forrum
Sorry for me bad english, I am not speak very well the english. I am from Ecuador.
I configured UTL_Mail because i need to send email and everything works good. But when I send an email with an email account associated with the domain that I configured. The outlook does not appear anything in the outbox.
    Example
I sent a message [email protected] account, the message is sent and reaches all recipients. In the inbox of the recipients [email protected] appears as the sender, but when I enter my account Outllok in the outbox nothing appears. My account is [email protected]
    What happens?

So, Where sent messages are stored?
Because if I go into my email account nothing appears in the outbox?Of course not. Why would it appear in your e-mail reader's outbox when your e-mail reader did not send the e-mail ?
    my Pl/sql looks like:
    BEGIN
    utl_mail.send(sender => '[email protected]',
    recipients => '[email protected]',
    subject => 'Test',
    message => 'HOlix');
END;And this results in the Oracle database server to contact the mail server and send the mail. Your e-mail client is not part of this process. Your e-mail reader does not know about that e-mail. Your e-mail reader is a client- not a server. It has no reason to know what another e-mail client (your PL/SQL code) send or did not send.
You want an outbox? You need then to design and code one for your PL/SQL mail client.
I dont understand what happen?Perhaps you should read up on WHAT a mail (SMTP) server is, HOW it works, and WHAT a PPOP3/IMAP mailbox is, and HOW that works?

Whenever I open Mail, the Mail Activity window displays thousands of messages incoming which takes forever and slows down my computer. Also the Activity window shows it's constantly Communicating with Server (Sent Messages) Fetching. It never seems to complete this action and so slows everything down. If I let it run and run overnight I still see this message in the morning.
I have a MobileMe account but it used to be a .Mac account. Is the computer getting confused between the two I wonder?
Please help, I've searched the forums for similar issues but nothing has been resolved. I'm going mad!!

  • Sync gmail messages between outlook 2003 on my hom...

    Hi everyone,
I've been reading a lot of posts on this forum and other pages on the net, but I couldn't find anything similar to my problem.
I have a E51 with the latest version of PC suite; and I am using Outlook 2003 on a WinXP SP2 machine.
PC suite does not give me the possibility to sync messages with Outlook (if it does, then it doesn't work for me). It only syncs calendar items, notes and contacts, which are all of secondary importance for me.
Of course, this is an enterprise phone, but I am not using it with my work computer. I use it with my gmail personal address. I got the phone set up to get my emails through IMAP and my computer through POP3.
What I would like is to be able to receive and send messages from my phone while on the go and still have the possibility to retrieve all email conversations when I download my messages with Outlook.
Unfortunately, although this works fine for received emails (downloading them with my phone will not erase them from my inbox and I will still be able to download them onto my computer), it is not the case with sent emails. These are stored in my phone memory as well as on gmail webmail under sent items, but they won't be set as part of the conversation in the inbox and will therefore not download onto my PC. And even if I move them manually to the inbox, they will be moved there in the webmail interface but Outlook will still not download them.
I would like to be able to save the history of some email exchanges from that particular gmail mailbox onto the computer (of course I don't need the whole history on my phone), and I find it a pain to have to go through the phone web browser to read and write my mail, so I would be really greatful if someone could tell me how to do it.
I could also change my email client to be something else than outlook if it makes it possible, but I don't think this issue is down to Outlook.
Thanks in advance for your help, I'll take any lead on how to do it or what to install...
    Cheers

    Hi e61drc,
Thank you for your answer! I'll try that as soon as I get home and post to let you know how happy I am!

  • My ipad mail is synced to my iMac mail account. On iPad, I can only see my inbox and sent messages. I can't see any of the folders I have created on my iMac. How do I do that? Probably a dumb question, but I know there's a lot of smart people out there!

My iPad mail is synced to my private email account, which I organise on my iMac. On iPad, I can only see inbox and sent messages folders, not any of the other folders in my email account I have created on my iMac. How do I get iPad to show my other folders? Probably a dumb question, but I know there's a lot of smart people out there.

If you select a mailbox, you should get an Edit button (easier to see in landscape mode). Clicking the button will provide you with check circles for the messages. You also get Delete and Move buttons at the bottom. Check the messages you want to move and then navigate to the mailbox you want to drop them into. I think as long as you can navigate to a mailbox you can move the messages to it.
In the Mac Mail application and probably Outlook on the Windows side, you also setup rules to move messages to specific mailboxes. If the mailboxes are stored on the server, then you can have the sorting done on the server and they should appear that way on the iPad. If your later messages do not show up, you may need to have the iPad app pulled down more messages until they are all showing.

  • How Can I Retain Sent Messages When Re-Doing Email?

i would like to delete an email account and re-add it to fix something but i don't want to lose my sent messages.  i know incoming message will be retained as they stay on the server.  i called bb support and a level one person told me that my sent messages are synced with my mail server and will still be on the server.  uh this is so not true.  maybe it is for IMAP or Outlook but not with POP3.
i would like the retain my sent messages on my phone and not lose them to re-add an email account.  can anyone help?  thanks.

    Hello,
I've been thinking about this, and I don't think there is a simple way at all. With other than POP, sent items do indeed get populated to the server. But POP has much less capability than others, and therefore the server just can't accept the placement of items into it's Sent Items folder within the mailbox. It's a POP limitation.
About the only thing I can think of would be for you to take a backup of your device. Then find a PC-based 3rd party backup file extraction utility and extract those specific items. Then, after you remove and re-add the account, you'd have to find a way to re-import the extracted items back to your BB. I don't know anyone who has tried such a thing, so I really am unsure of any details within this process...so you might have to do some further digging, and there may be no success path at all to be had.
Then again...it's also possible that removing the email account from the device won't actually wipe out the items. They may be retained on the device, but simply not be accessible while the email account is dis-associated. Re-associating the account might re-attach the items and make them visible. This is a theory, mind you...not anything that I've tested.
In any event, with POP there are severe limitations to what can be done. If you really have to preserve those sent items, you should first forward them to yourself so that they become part of your inbox and therefore are on the server (albeit as an inbox item rather than a sent item). Just in case.
    Good luck!

  • How to make a copy of the IMAP Sent messages when the Sent folder file can not be found?

My Thunderbird works fine. I can also see messages sent in the Sent folder but I wonder are the sent messages only saved in the IMAP server. For the backup purposes I would like to copy the file of the Sent folder but I can not find a local file for it.
In /home/me/.thunderbird/44g5fxvp.default/ImapMail/mail.[mymail].fi I do have files
    Archives-1.sbd
    Archives.msf
    Deleted Messages
    Deleted Messages.msf
    Drafts.msf
    INBOX
    INBOX.msf
    inbox_old
    inbox_old.msf
    msgFilterRules.dat
    Sent.msf
    Templates.msf
    Trash.msf
    Trash.sbd
I.e.the Sent.msf esists but there is not file named Sent. Am I looking from a wrong place? Are my Thunderbird settings or preferences wrong? Is there something obvious I have missed?
What is the most convenient way to make a local copy of the Sent folder messages if Thunderbird does not make a local copy of it?
    Information about my system:
    Application Basics
    Name Thunderbird
    Version 31.0
    User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/31.0
    Application Build ID 20140721092545
    Enabled Plugins about:plugins

    Memory Use about:memory
    Mail and News Accounts
    account3 (imap) mail.[mymail].fi:993 SSL/TLS Normal password smtpa.[mymail].fi:465 SSL/TLS Normal password true

re: the Sent.msf esists but there is not file named Sent
That is because they are not stored on your computer they are stored on the server. The Sent.msf file is just an indexing file and does not store emails.
    re INBOX, INBOX.msf, inbox_old, inbox_old.msf
These subscribed folders have been synchronised to get a local copy onto your computer in your Thunderbird profile folder.
You need to do the same with the 'Sent folder.
    * https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/imap-synchronization#w_configuring-synchronization-and-disk-space-usage
then go into 'offline' mode to stop further synchronising.
Then you can right click on selected emails and save as .eml files in a folder external to Thunderbird.
You can also copy or move emails into a suitable folder in Local Folders. These folders keep emails on your computer, they are not modified by the server, they do not synchronise with any IMAP mail account.

  • GMail sent messages do not appear on BB

I use a Google Apps account and a GMail account - both registered with my local BIS account server. I use Outlook 2010 on my desktop configured via IMAP.
On 1st Nov 2010, my BB 9700 stopped receiving copies of items sent either through Outlook or Google on the web. Prior to 1st Nov everything worked perfectly and I was able to see any item sent from my desktop as a "sent" item in my BB Messages folder.
Now, the only sent items I see in my BB are those sent from the device - they also appear on my desktop as sent items without a problem.
My Google settings have IMAP enabled and the Sent Mail Label is enabled to Show in IMAP.
Did something change with the Enhanced Gmail Plug-in since 1st Nov or can anyone advise a solution to this. I really need to see all of my sent items on my device if possible as before.
    Thanks, Sean

  • Sent messages not showing ipad

When I reply to or initiate an email from my ipad they are not shown in the sent box. How can I access sent my messages?

Unlike outlook on my pc, safari on the iPad does not have an outbox only inbox sent and drafts. If outlook fails to send a sent message it lets you know. What happens to the 'sent' message if the iPad fails to send it by safari? Not in drafts nor in sent and no advice that not sent. Any way of finding it? No sent messages are stored on my server.

  • Some sent messages lost in Apple Mail

I have a new Macbook Pro early 2015 running Yosemite and use Apple Mail.
I am surprised at how slow outgoing messages are to send, regardless of whether I'm on a fast or slow wifi network, regardless of whether the message has rich content.
More troubling is that once in a while, and I think its for particularly long sends, the sent message never appears in my Sent box.
    Rebuilding doesn't restore them.
This is on an imap server.  It doesn't use a Path prefix, uses Port 993 and SSL is selected.
Can anyone help?  I need to keep my sent messages for reference.  I saw an older post like this from 2007 but was never listed as resolved.

BTW, you posted in the Lion forum instead of Yosemite. For best results post in Yosemite the next time.
We need to determine if this is a Spotlight issue or a problem in Mail. It would be helpful to know what type IMAP? iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook.com or other.
If you search in Spotlight in the Finder (top right in menu bar) for the message subject does it show up? If yes, can you find the message in Mail search?
HOW TO RE-INDEX YOUR SPOTLIGHT CACHE FILES
    Option 1)
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
    *  Click Spotlight.
    *  Make sure  Mail & Messages is checked under the Search Results tab.
    *  Click the Privacy tab.
    *  Drag your drive to the list. Wait a couple of minutes.
    *  Remove the item you added.
    *  Spotlight will re-index the contents of the item you initially dragged to the list.
    Option 2)
    Follow the steps here.
Use OS X Recovery Disk Assistant to reset Your files and folder permissions
When you restart Spotlight will reindex your entire drive.
    Option 3)
Copy the text below and open Terminal (in /Application/Utilities). Paste the code into the Terminal window at the prompt.
    sudo mdutil -E /
You will be asked for your administrator password (and if you've never used the sudo command you'll need to accept the warning presented). When you type your password, it will look like nothing is being typed. That's normal. Once you've typed your administrator password, press Return.
This will completely remove the Spotlight index and force a new one to be created. Probably not necessary, but I would immediately quit Terminal and restart your Mac.
    SUMMARY:
Depending on your Mac and the contents of it's hard disk, re-indexing may take several hours. Doing this overnight is a good option if you have a large drive.
You can tell if it's still in progress by simply looking at the Spotlight menu: There's a blinking dot in the middle of the magnifying glass while indexing is occurring. You can also open Activity Monitor in Applications/Utilities and type in md in the search filter. You should see mdworker32 and mdworker. mdworker32 is the Microsoft Outlook Spotlight index and mdworker is for system.
Until this process is finished, Spotlight won’t know the contents of your disks and neither will Mail.
