Synchronize a gyro sensor with a video camera

Hello,
I going to start a project on real-time video stabilization based on gyro sensor.
I am planning to use a video camera which does not contain an external trigger.
does anyone have an idea in order to synchronize the image frames with the data from the gyro sensor.
Thanks in advance

Hi tahraoui,
If you are ok with your camera and gyro having a fixed, but non-zero, phase difference, then you can route the VSYNC signal (called "Vertical Synchronization Signal" in the IMAQ Trigger Drive VI) from the IMAQ board which is acquiring from the camera across a RTSI line to the DAQ board that is acquiring data from the gyro, and use that signal as the start trigger for the gyro acquisition.
The VSYNC signal is generated by the camera, which typically will generate it after the exposure, and routed through the IMAQ board, which will induce a board-specific group delay.  As a result, the trigger you see on the RTSI line will lag the start of the exposure time by some period of time, but for many applications, it is possible to calibrate that delay out.

  • HELP NEEDED CAPTURE DV FOOTAGE WITH HDV VIDEO CAMERA

I'm trying to capture DV video footage I've done years ago with my Sony DCR-HC40E PAl into FCP version 6. with my new camera HDV video Sony HDR-HC7 1080.i/mini dv so I can capture it into FCP but it's jerky, An yone know the setting for both the HDv camera and FCP to get the footage perfect as the rginal video.
    Cheers

From the FCP menu bar: Final Cut Pro > Easy Setup > DV-PAL > OK. (Use DV PAL Anamorphic if you shot wide screen).
Menu bar once more: Sequence > Settings > Set Sequence Preset > OK.
That camera should detect the DV format tape and playback with the correct settings automatically.
All you ned to do is connect it via FireWire and capture.
For everything else, here's the manual for that camera: http://www.docs.sony.com/release/HDRHC5.pdf

  • FaceTime with logitec video camera causes the mac mini t. Face if

Each time I try to run FaceTime on my mac mini with a logitec USB video camera ( mac version) it causes a lock up and requires a full reboot.

It sounds like it is mistaking the camera for a DVD disk. So my best follow-up question is to ask:
    1. Who is the manufaturer of your camera
    2. What is the model number of this camera.
What happens when you quit DVD player. Does iMovie still fail?

  • Recording the screen with a video camera

Can someone help me be able to record everything on my screen to my video camera? Can I use a firewire to do so? Is there a specific application i require? What I DON'T want to do is record my screen straight to the computer (this will be processor/space intensive) plus I already know how to do that? Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the Forums!
I'm a little confused. You want to record your screen to your video camera? Point the camera at the screen and press record on the camcorder. Viola.
I suspect what you want to do is not that simple, but that's the answer to the question you asked
IF you have a recording device with a _video in_ (which is something that camcorders typically don't have!! - other than the lens, I mean...), you'd need to convert the video out - which is the DVI port.
So, if it were me, I'd use my DVI-to-video adapter, connect the DVI output to my DVR (the one on my TV), set the DVR to that input, and record that way.
    Hope this helps...

  • Frustrations with HD video cameras

I know quite a bit of people have expressed problems with HD cameras and and proprietary file formats etc. I just don't know why these cameras do not store video as universal .avi files? Anyway, can someone make a recommendation of a cost-effective HD camcorder that works smoothly with FCE and iMac. I have been very unhappy with Cannon. My friends really like Panasonic. My goal is keep native resolution with the files and not have to convert them to compressed images when doing log and transfer, etc.
    Thanks for any thoughts!

    dartblock wrote:

Almost all consumer and prosumer video is compressed.
If you really want uncompressed video, buy a huge RAID disk array,
eSATA card, video card with SDI input, and a camera like
the $4500 Panasonic HPX 170, which includes an SDI output.
But I don't think you can afford to go down that road.

The .avi format is quite old and has a number of problems. It has no standard
for encoding aspect ratio. It has no standardized way of encoding timecode.
It cannot deal with variable frame rates effectively. The more recently developed
Quicktime (.mov) format does not have those problems.
Whether you use .avi or .mov, you still need to choose a codec,
and Quicktime offers more options in that regard.
    Quicktime is what FCE uses.

If that's your goal, you should consider Panasonic's DVCPRO HD codec.
Once the camera has stored its footage in that format,
you can log and transfer and edit without converting.

I agree with you and your friends. I love my Panasonic P2 camera,
but you can do good work with either. If you're getting an inexpensive (< $3K)
camera, you'll probably end up using the AVCHD or HDV codec,
both of which work better if transcoded when you log and capture.

  • Connect problem with DV video-camera through the new thunderbolt to firewire adapter?

    Hi
I got a JVC DV camcorder with firewire 400 output and I've got a Macbook Air 2012 with 8gb 1600 MHz DDR3, intel i7 2GHz, 256 ssd harddisk and intel HD graphics 4000 512 mb. It has thundebolt but no firewire port.
I wanted to connect these two item and then bought the new "thunderbolt to firewire 800" and the "800 to 400 firewire adapter cable".
I then connect both cables to each other and pluged it in to the JVC DV. I started up iMovie and pressed play on the camcorder, but the signal can't get through and the Macbook Air does not find the camcorder at all? What have I done wrong? Please help..
    Best regards,

    Hi,
have you managed to solve your problem? I deal with the same issue using Panasonic MX500 DV camera. Any help would be appriciated.

  • Problem with Wifi, Video, Camera (NEO V)

  • How do I save a dvd (with video from a video camera) to edit with imovie?

A friend took videos of an event of mine with his video camera. He then put the clips on a dvd and gave it to me. It was recorded on with a Sony video camera and imported on to a pc with vega's then burned with DVD Complete. He was not sure what format he put it in but maybe something like video_TS.BUP. When I open it up from my desktop it has a audio TS and Video TS folder. When I try to open one of the video folders it goes to iphoto and says unrecognizable format. So does he need to save it to different format and what format would that be. I want to put those clips on my mac to edit to make a movie. I have the newest macbook with the newest imovie. Thanks for all your help!

DVDs are encoded into MPEG2, which iMovie cannot edit. So you need to convert the DVD back to something else. For highest quality, I recommend that you convert the DVD to Apple Intermediate Codec. There is a free tool called MPEG Streamclip that will do this. You will also need to install the Apple QuickTIme MPEG2 Playback Component.
    Here are the details.
    1) Download and install the Apple MPEG2 QuickTime Component ($20) - available online from Apple.
    2) Download and install MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5 (free).
    3) Start MPEG Streamclip
    4) Insert your DVD into your Mac. If DVD Player or Front Row starts automatically quit those.
    5) Open a Finder window. Navigate to your DVD to the Video_TS folder.
    6) Drag the .VOB files from the Video_TS folder and drop then into MPEG Streamclip.
    7) If MPEG Streamclip offers to fix timecode breaks, say yes.
    8) Use FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME to convert the files to Apple Intermediate Codec (or h.264 if you prefer)
9a) Optional: You can deinterlace your footage in this step, if you like
9b) optional: If you know the date and or time of the footage, name your file
    clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss
(let mpeg streamclip provide the extension). This will provide metadata that iMovie will use to put the event in the right year and month.
9c) Optional: If you don't want to make one huge clip out of your DVD, you can make smaller clips by using MPEG Streamclip. Move the cursor to the "in" point of the clip, and press i. Move the cursor to the "Out" point of the clip, and press o. Then do steps 8 through 10 and repeat until you have done this for all clips you want.
    10) Save the resulting file in a place where you can find it, like your Desktop.
    11) Open iMovie.
    12) In iMovie, choose FILE/IMPORT/From File and choose the file you saved in steps 8, 9, 10.
    13) iMovie will generate thumbnails and you can edit.

  • Cannot work with Video Camera after upgrade to Flash Player 11

The latest flash play doesn't work well with the video camera on my Mac. I can't use Google Talk or Google+ Hangout now. The camera can work well with Skype, so it should be the problem related to Flash Player.
Anyone have similiar issue? Any fix?

I have the same issue and utltimately reverted back to 10.3 which works fine.
No matter what I did my video camera (built in isight) on macbook pro 2007 never turned on. Even though it asks me for permission to use it and I allow it too.
    Here's what I tried:
    1. Uninstall 10.3
    2. Install 11
    3. Uninstalling the Google Talk plugin (I saw posts on the net about a possible issues..but i never had this with 10.3)
    4. Rebooting
Still nothing..black screen and no cam access.
I always use http://www.koowy.com for video cam conferences and had to go back to 10.3 to get my cam to work. I reinstalled Google Talk plugin and it all works fine with 10.3
Hopefully, this is a known issue and will be fixed.
I'm on OS X Lion, MacBook Pro (2007), Both FireFox 7 and Chrome and Safari 5.1 are effected.

  • Mixing Garageband Recording with my video

I want to record a choir with my Video camera and import to imovie. I want to record the audio with my mac using garageband and a nice mic to get a good sound. How can I import the audio to imovie and get the voices to sync with video?

After editing in GB, Share your GB project in AIFF, MP3, or AAC. You can either share to iTunes (for convenience) or share to a file.
In iMovie, open the Music Browser and navigate to your track in iTunes. If you shared to a file, open the finder, find the file, and drag it into your project and drop it on the frame where you want it to start.
For synching, you can use a clapperboard, or some people have suggested tapping the Mic with the camera so both will register the "click".
[This Video Tutorial|http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/imovie08.html#audioclips] may be helpful in understanding how to edit audio in iMovie. It is a video for iMovie 08, but not much has changed in 09.

  • How to read a movie on iPhoto from a Sony video camera

    Dear all,
I am a new user of Mac (before was a PC user) and have bought a Mac Book Pro.
I try to connect my video camera Sony DCR-SR290 using USB port ; then when I open Iphoto I could not see the movie ; I try to import one of the movie and the following message appears : " The following file could not be imported, the format is unknown" (I have made the translation from : Le fichier suivant n'a pu être importé. Son format n'est pas reconnu).
Do you have any idea ? Do I have to use firewire port ? Is there a specificity with Sony video camera ?
I have bought the MPEG2 additional features for Quicktime but no modification (may be, as I am a beginner, I did not install it correctly ; do not hesitate to tell me where I have to put the upload file).
So please help me as initially I have bought Mac so as to work easily on video movie .
    Thanks for your help.

oups yes, why I did not check this before......

  • Video camera button issues on iphone4 after iOS5 upgrade

    hi
I have upgraded to iOS5 on my 1 year-old iphone4.  I have a problem with the video camera function - it doesnt work anymore when accesed from the camera app icon:
When I tap on the camera app icon I can access the camera screen.  On the camera screen, when the slider above the red button is set to the camera icon, both the red button and the volume-up button activate the shutter and a photograph is taken.  However, when the slider is set to the camera icon, the screen freezes when either the red button or volume-up button is pressed to start recording.
However, when the phone is locked and the home button is pressed twice to access the camera screen, both the still-camera and the video-camera function normally using either the red button or the volume-up button,
This has all the appearence of and seems to me as though it is a bug in the iOS5 software
has anyone else observed this problem with the video-camera function?
Can Apple offer advice on how (and when) this will be fixed please?
    many thanks
    john

I have noticed that the camera has seemed slower on the iOS 5 updates. I usually just shut it off then turn it back on and use the quick camera as opposed to exiting the app I'm on and going to the home screen and opening it up.

  • QuickTime compatible video camera?

In frustration with Apple's dropping of the iSight Cameras and no word of a replacement, I looked desperately for a web-cam solution for my PowerBook 15 and my Mac Mini.
I will be working away from home and the ability to video chat with the family will be wonderful, IF I can find a substitute camera that will WORK with the Mac's. My MacBook allows the family to see me in all the methods we have tried, but we need to "turn the camera's on them" so to speak.
In some forum (here? TUAW?) I read that a digital video camera with firewire and "QuickTime" compatibility will be a great substitute, but what is meant by QuickTime compatibility? I have a new Panasonic video camera, and wonder if it will work.

    Hi BrianDubya,
Any Firewire DV output (6 pin to 6pin) Camcorder
    Any Firewire Web cam
Any USB cam that has Mac drivers and this Utility
    http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/
The chances are that any USB cam is going to have
Windows drivers (if you need them for a Intel)

    I love Macs.
I came in from out of town and tried all three of my computers, 2 PowerPCs Macs and one Intel MacBook with the video camera and all I have to do is plug the camera in.
Bada Bing!! The Panasonic PV-GS250 works everytime with Yahoo Messenger, Skype, and iChat.
After the 2-1/2 hours I spent "connecting" a new HP Laptop and new HP printer and getting it communicating and on-line (THAT's TWO and A HALF HOURS!!) I am glad I discovered Apple Inc products.
Thannks for your help in this!

  • Importing Video from Panasonic NV-DS30 Video Camera

    Hi there
I need advice on how to connect my Panasonic NV-DS30 digital video camera to my iMac to import video into iMovie.
The camera has an iLink socket (aka a FireWire socket) however the manual only talks about digital dubbing with another video camera using an optional cable.
I guess I want to know if I buy a FireWire cable with the appropriate sized plug will I be able to import video into iMovie, without needing anything else?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Steve,
I couldn't find any reference to a NV-DS30 so I'm not sure what you have, format wise. If it has a firewire socket, I might assume that it is a miniDV cam, in which case, yes you need to buy the 4 to 6 pin firewire cable to connect to your Mac. It should import smoothly with iMovie 08 and, as a bonus to buying the right type of cam, you could also import to iMovie HD6. HD6 only imports from miniDV cams.

  • How to synchronize video camera with logic for recording?

    Hi guys,
I have a Sony VX 2000 and logic pro.
I'd like to do a multitrack audio recording of a musical theatre performance and simultaneously record video with two cameras.
I want to record the sound into logic pro, that way I can mix the sound later (multitrack audio).
At the same time I want to record video with the cameras.
There may be 100 takes or more....
What is the best way to synchronize logic with the video recording?
I don't want to synchronize each audio take with each video take later, there must be an easiser way!
Is it possible to start recording of video and audio at exact the same time?
Do I need any additional hardware?
    Any feedback highly appreciated!
    Thanks Eddie

Have the drummer make a 2 pop (click) at the beginning of every take.
Set the camera to 16 bit audio and you can import the camera audio into Logic.
Record multitrack into Logic at the same time.
You can align the takes to the audible click.
Sorry, It's the only thing I can think of,
without having very expensive externally synced cameras.
Logic doesn't record video, it plays it back.
So making some type of slate is the way to go.
It will be a pain to manually align all that stuff.
