Synchronization Failed from isync Conduit iCal

I'm having difficulty syncing iCal and a Palm Z22. First, I export my calendar in iCal format from Sungard/SCT which is used at my school. While importing into iCal I get the following message:
"Some of the events in this calendar have alarm that open files or applications"
which is related to Sungard/SCT sending email reminders I believe. I choose:
"Remove Unsafe Alarms"
When I try to sync, I get:
"Synchronization Failed from isync Conduit iCal generated exception
NSInvalidArgumentException: * -[NSCFString emailString]: selector not
recognized. Can't get record with ID

Here is that record I believe:

Got it. That's very clearly a problem you're going to have to address at the source - the export stage - rather than from iCal after import.
Have you spoken with the campus technology staff familiar with SCT Banner or SCT Campus Pipeline about the issue? Surely, they must be familiar with 'standards-based' calender export.
The problem here is that there are SO many component parts: the SCT program, the exported files, iCal, iSync and Sync Services. It could be that Apple has failed to properly account for and handle something produced by the SCT programs, but it seems far more likely that the export files are non-standard. The exported records are essentially considered 'mal-formed' by Sync Services, and there is no way that you can diagnose and correct the issue on a hit-or-miss basis.
The whole push-pull or put-get technology behind Sync Services is complex and at times mysterious, and made infinitely more complex when you cross platforms, despite the existence of widely touted 'standards' for data interchange.
I would start by hunting down the local Banner or Campus Pipeline expert, and asking that individual why the data is not 'synchronizable' in its current form.

  • "Synchronization Failed" while iSyncing iPod

    hey all,
i just tried to Sync my iPod with iSync. after the process, my computer gave me a message, that said, "An inconsistency has been detected and discarded. The data on this computer has not been damaged. You should Reset All Devices from this computer and merge the changes to make sure all computers are in sync." It said this 5 times, all in the same message, like it was copied and pasted 5 times. anybody know what's up? thanx a million!

    Hi David,
You don't have to use iSync. You should use iTunes. You need OS X 10.4 and iTunes 4.8. Once you upgrade to iTunes 4.8, iSync will not let you add you iPod to iSync. For more info on how to do this, go here
    I hope that helps,
    Jon

  • "iSync conduit failed" error

I am trying to synch either of two Tungsten E2 PDAs. I have Palm desktop 4.2.1 and iSync 3.0 installed. Both devices have iSync enabled (I did all the things in the Help files to enable everything). Both these devices have been synched successfully in the past.
When I try to synch now, the HotSync Manager log states things like this:
    iSync Conduit starting 4/24/08 3:17:55
Timeout waiting for Sync Engine, exiting 4/24/08 3:23:53
    iSync Conduit synchronization failed
“iSync Conduit” failed (error = #-2)
I cannot get iCal to synch, but other non-Apple things synch just fine. Does anyone know what I can do about this?

This is typically an indication that your conduit has not been 'configured' in the HotSync Manager. Palm and Apple's unfortunate choice of a term, not mine…
As the instructions indicate, you have to drag the appropriate replacement conduit into the Conduits folder located at
    Mactintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Palm HotSync
and then launch either the Palm Desktop or the HotSync Manager to 'configure' or activate the conduit using the HotSync menu's Configure option. Essentially, you select it in a dialog, double-click on it, then place a check in a box. Close that dialog, and you're done.
Synchronization issues not at all related to the defective or missing conduit, however, can still exist in Mac OS X 10.5.x configurations, requiring two steps to synchronize contacts in one, and events and tasks in another, by initially deselecting Calendars while insuring the Contacts is selected in your drop-down iSync device configuration dialog, synchronizing, reversing these settings and synchronizing again.
Many find this behavior annoying, and instead choose to synchronize with the Missing Sync for Palm OS from Mark/Space.

  • ISync synced iCal calendars to phone but erased from computer.  Help!

I performed a sync today to my Motorola E815 cell phone. All of the contacts synced fine but the calendars didn't. All of the calendars from iCal were copied over fine, but the no longer appear in iCal.
Will syncing again copy the calendars back from the phone to the computer or will they erase off of the phone and no copy over. I am scared of losing them altogether. I could reenter them manually but that would take forever. Is there anyway to get my calendars back?
I had performed a backup of iCal a few weeks ago but don't know how to revert to that, plus I have made several changes since then.
    What can I do?

If you created the backup using the the option labeled Back up Database… under the File menu in iCal, then restoring that data is as easy as choosing the option labeled Revert to Database Backup… directly beneath it. If you used another means, restoration might be a little more complex. It depends entirely upon what you originally chose to to, as a restoration is effectively a reversal of this process.
In any event, to restore the information on your mobile handset to iCal, you should reset the synchronization framework by…
    • launching iSync
    • opening the Preferences… dialog
    • pressing the Reset Sync History… button and following the instructions which appear
You can achieve the same effect by removing your device from iSync and then adding it back. The key is to select the option to Merge the data in iCal with your mobile handset, rather than to Replace the data on your mobile handset with the data stored in iCal, which is presently empty.
If you do first successfully restore iCal and elect to merge your data, it will recognize equivalent records and merge them, and will add the records which differ on either device to the other.
The key to a successful outcome is to proceed slowly and deliberately, follow any instructions which occur, and ponder the likely outcome as you move forward. Generally speaking, you can stop at any point and back out of the process without affecting your data, though once you have reset or removed and then added back your device, the framework will eventually have to accommodate this change, and will perform a full, slow synchronization the next time you try to synchronize. Again, at that point if you cancelled earlier, you will have to elect to merge rather than replace data.

  • ISync-ed iCal Alarms eMailed from multiple machines

I iSync my iCal between three different machines. However each machine then thinks it has to email me all of my accumulated Alarms, so I get three copies of each Alarm eMail. And when I wake my laptop, it wants to send its copy of all the emails before I can do anything else. Is there not some preference for handling Alarms, such as only via the "main" machine? Don't tell me the solution is not to Sync the iCal, or not to set Alarms. (OS X 10.4.11 and/or 10.5.2)

If it is any consolation, I too will be interested in replies to your questions.

  • After two years w/o problems, T610 Synchronization Failed ...

For about two years, I've had no problem syncing my SE T610 with Address Book and iCal.
Yesterday, I synced with no problem.
Today, I've been trying to sync and continually get the message:
An unexpected exception occured while synchronizing the device. Device "T610" synchronization failed.
I repaired the permissions and reset the device. Nothing.
Here's what I see in console, but I have no idea what it means:

    Please help.

The easiest way to attempt a fix for your error condition is to launch iSync, open the Preferences… dialog and press the Reset Sync History… button.
Executing that process will not remove any data from your devices, servers or applications, but it will reintialize the truth database which is the central repository for data in the SyncServices framework, and will effectively force a first-time synchronization the next time you initiate an event.
To protect your data, you should use the built-in backup feature available under the File menu of both iCal and the Address Book to back up your calendaring, task and contact records before initiating that next 'first' synchronization event.

  • How do I (safely) disconnect Palm from Isync?

How do I uninstall isync and ical conduits and go back to plain old Palm software? (Been using isync for over a year, but never really liked it.)
I have lots of data on my palm.
Currently using palm desktop 4.2.1 with osx.4.7.
    Thanks!
PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.7) former pc user

It's actually easier than you imagine.
First, remove your device from iSync using the Remove Device command under the file menu with your device selected.
Then, navigate to this location to find the the Conduits folder, the DIsabled Conduits folder, and perhaps an iSync Disabled Conduits folder:
    Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Palm HotSync
Open the Conduits folder, and move the conduit named Apple to the Disabled Conduits folder. Open the Disabled Conduits folder [or, more likely the iSync Disabled Conduits folder if there is one] and move the standard Palm conduits back into the active Conduits folder. They are, the…
    • Calendar Conduit [and the Datebook Conduit it replaced]
    • Contacts Conduit [and the Address Conduit it replaced]
    • Memos Conduit [and the Memo Conduit it replaced]
    • Notepad Conduit
    • Tasks Conduit [and the ToDo Conduit it replaced…]
Though the two generations of Palm calendaring, contact, memo and tasks conduits would logically seem to conflict, they do not: the Palm Desktop is 'smart' enough to pick the appropriate conduit to use with your device.
Be sure to use the HotSync Manager to configure each conduit initially to Handheld overwrites Macintosh, in order to preserve the records on your handheld organizer or smartphone and transfer them to the Palm Desktop. After performing the first synchronization with the Palm Desktop in this manner, you should then reconfigure the conduits to Synchronize, so that subsequent events added, deleted or modified in either environment are transfered to the other.
Be sure that you simply stop using iSync, the Address Book and iCal but do not remove them from your computer, to avoid creating all sorts of unexpected issues.
If you like the way that the Address Book and iCal operate, but do not like using iSync, consider purchasing the Missing Sync for Palm OS which replaces iSync, is fully Sync Services compliant, includes options for synchronizing memos, iPhoto and iTunes content, and provides a much more robust and reliable experience than iSync.

  • Synchronization fails @ end of sync cycle sonyE w800 usb & bluetooth HELP!

I have tried everything I know to sort this problem . The phone still works fine for file transfer via bluetooth or usb i.e photos or mp3 etc . and there is no other problem with the phone .
I have made a master reset of the phone and deleted and rerergistered the phone as a bluetooth and bluetooth device several times .This also works fine Everything appears normal but isync fails . the problem first started about a week ago perhaps after a crash . I have also attempted to sync the phone via usb and receive the exact same error which leads me to think the problem is with isync rather than any of the protocols .
I deleted the isync and bluetooth prefs but didn't make any difference .
when I try to syncronize the phone , via isync , it runs fine but right at the end of the sync it returns the error" An unexpected error occured.
Device "W800i:-)" synchronization failed" . this is with usb or bluetooth synchronization .
opening console I can see the following type of dialogue over and over " 14:15:02.498 [iSync:2471] ERROR (.sync.SyncConduitManager): Exception catch: [ISyncConcreteSession clientRefusedChangesForRecordWithIdentifier:]: I know nothing about a record with identifier A6DF4542-842F-462C-B8CF-9EDA75DFF821. This doesn't mean much to me but maybe can help someone help me .
btw the sE gives me the error message "session failed/communication interuptted" .
    any help appreciated .

Have you tried resetting the iSync history in iSync prefs?
Or syncing just contacts, or just calendars, to see if one will allow a full sync.
Or syncing just a small group of contacts.
There may be some corrupted data in either Address Book or iCal that is tripping iSync up.

  • Isync conduit/adobe reader for palm issue

I just got a Tunsten E2 for Christmas. I'm somewhat new to this PDA world, so perhaps I'm missing something obvious. I installed the software, installed Adobe Reader for Palm OS and performed a HotSync. I then tried importing a PDF file to my handheld with no trouble. Then I saw via the Palm website that I could sync using isync via the isync conduit 1.2 from apple. So I downloaded that and followed the instructions to install it. Now my addresses and calendars sync flawlessly, but I can't seem to get Adobe Reader for Palm to transfer any more PDF files.
Has the isync conduit disabled a conduit for Adobe? Is there any way to fix this? Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you,
    J
P.S. I'm using Hotsync manager 3.2.1 and Palm Desktop 4.2.1

    Michael,
I've figured out what the problem is. When you install the isync conduit it removes any conduits that it feels it conflicts with. i.e. contacts, calendars, to do lists etc. It also, for some reason, removed the Adobe conduit named AcroConduit. I think this is a glitch in the isync conduit. Thankfully, the conflicting conduits that isync removes aren't deleted. They are simply put into a folder named "disabled conduits" located in the main "library" folder->"Application Support" -> "Palm HotSync", right next to the "Conduits" folder. So I just dragged the AcroConduit back to the "Conduits" folder and configured the conduit in HotSync Manager and, viola, all seems to be working fine... sort of.
It seems that Apple's Address Book and iCal don't exactly sync picture perfect on the palm pilot. email addresses where phone numbers should be, some addresses not showing up at all, calendars not showing up in the correct headings such as personal, business, etc. Apple and Palm could do better.

  • Palm Tree 755p + iSync/Missing Sync for Palm/iSync Conduit 1.2

I'm lost! Being stuck with a new Palm Treo 755p instead of the iPhone until my contract runs out. How do I get my Treo to sync with my Mac? There's iSync, iSync Conduit 1.2 and even Missing Sync for Palm. I'm willing to pay anything just to get things to sync with the Treo & iBook. But, after reading anything and everything I can find even on Discussions ... I'm more confused than ever.
Can anyone tell me what the real difference is between Missing Sync for Palm vs. iSync & iSync Conduit 1.2?
If I had that rebate check from uncle Sam maybe I'd go out and pay off Sprint to get out of my 2 year contract and then buy an iPhone, LOL. Oh, that's right we don't get the check until summer
    Any help is appreciated.

OK, I finally broke down and purchased "Missing Sync," after waiting for Apple to fix this problem. I'm sorry to say that "Missing Sync" does NOT solve this issue completely. It will sync the Address book, but will NOT work with iCal.
Apparently, "Mark/Space" (the makers of "Missing Sync") are aware of the problems, have identified the problem as Apple's, and reported it to Apple. Here are some of the issues noted on the "Mark/Space" web-page...
"This article describes situations under which The Missing Sync may report errors or perfomance issues. One error message is specific to iCal (part of Apple's Mac OS X operating system) and describes errors from iCal that are affecting the ability of The Missing Sync from performing sync functions properly."
"In certain situations, The Missing Sync reports an error message titled 'iCal Sync Errors'. This error is often caused when iCal is attempting to share data with Sync Services. Although this error has little to do with handheld devices, it affects the ability to sync data to or from those devices as Sync Services functions are compromised."
"THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED TO APPLE, INC. BY MARK/SPACE."
"Errors that are not reported in The Missing Sync log may be found in the Console.log file."
"Here are some of the error messages you may see in the Console:
    iSDSqliteRecordMapper
    SQLite locking issue
    iSynceConcreteSession
    NSInvalidArgumentException
    ICalExternalSync
    ISyncInvalidRecordException
These error are generated by Sync Services and reported to The Missing Sync."
So, for those of you hoping that "Missing Sync" will solve the problems we are having with various hand-helds, and/or cell phones, it doesn't completely. I am a huge fan of Mark/Space's "The Missing Sync" and have used it many times throughout the years. It's a great piece of software that does a whole lot more than iSync ever has, but it does NOT solve all of the problems that are being reported all over this forum in regards to iSync issues and hand-helds/cell phones.

  • Isync, Addressbook, ical, Entourage 08

I was using Hotsync w/ palm desktop and Entourage 04, going well.
Decided to upgrade to Entourage 08, but then need to use Apple Isync conduit.
Yesterday this seemed to work, except I kept getting alerts that I had conflicts different addresses, so today I decided to do the following:
For the first sync I chose in isync "erase the handheld, then syncronize"
So my contacts on my palm were erased, calendar was not.
    Now,
Since then after a "successful" sync, nothing happens.
No contacts are added to the palm, and no calendar events are added to the palm
    Any ideas?
Entourage 08 and Addressbook/iCal seem to be talking ok
Tried removing the device from isync, then trying again, but nothing..

Sounds like something has gone wrong with SyncServices which needs resetting. Make sure you back-up your Contacts and Calendars first though.
First try the solution on the Apple Tech Support page below:

If that doesn't resolve it, try the solution I posted in the thread here:

Re Patrick's suggestion above, I was able to get Xmarks working again on both my Win 7 laptop and desktop today by uninstalling my Aurora browser completely and then installing the regular release version of Firefox, 20.0.1.
When I uninstalled Aurora, it asked me if I wanted to keep my customizations and personal data, and even though it meant a bit more restoration work later, I decided to try erasing all my Aurora settings and data and starting fresh. (But before doing so, I backed up all my bookmarks by exporting to an html file and my add-on settings via Firefox Sync.
After that, I installed and started with a clean slate version of regular Firefox, and proceeded to then reinstall my various add-ons and import my saved bookmarks from the html file. As soon as I re-installed Xmarks and re-logged into my Xmarks account, the automatic syncing process went fine and no more error messages or failures.
I had been using Aurora for months prior with Xmarks and never had any syncing problem until the first week of April. And at that point, the syncing function broke on both my laptop and desktop, which were both running the daily updated versions of Aurora. So I'm believing that something was changed in Aurora that caused this problem.
