Synchronize from mass storage to iPod

I have transferred my itunes music to an external WD mass storage unit to improve my computers performance. Now I can't figure out how to sycnhronize my
iPod Classic with the mass storage unit where my music is.

iTunes doesn't care where the data is, as long as it is where it thinks it should be. So, if you've migrated your library properly, and the iPod was up-to-date before you moved it, then the iPod will still be up-to-date. When you connect your device to iTunes you make selections of media content from the library which take no heed of where that content is stored. Connect the device & click Sync.
If you get a warning that data will be removed & replaced then you didn't manage the migration of your media library properly and have probably created a new library with the old content. Stop and post back and we'll review the steps you took to move your library.

  • Can I safely change N95 8GB Mass Storage's name?

I have many software installed on my N95 8GB. I have an option to change the Mass Storage's name.
Is it safe to change the name from "Mass Storage" to something else?
    Thanks.

Yes, the name of the mass storage can be changed with no ill effects.
Software always accesses the mass storage by "drive letter", pretty much the same way Windows does. To see this in action, create a playlist containing a few music files that are on your memory card and then open the resulting playlist file in a text editor. You'll see that all the tracks are referred to as E:\whatever_path\music_file.mp3
Interestingly enough, from a technical point of view, the name assigned to the mass storage is in fact a special kind of file called a "volume identifier". By changing the volume name you're merely renaming this special file.

  • HELP - Mass storage mode ??? 3G running 6.0?

Hi Folks. I am not new to Blackberry and have been a user for years. However, I have a problem and I hope someone can help me. I am trying to disable Mass Storage Mode on my recently upgraded to 6.0 Curve 3G.  I click on "Options" then "device" then "storage" All it shows here is compression (checked), Media card support (checked) application storage free space, Media card storage total space, free space. that is ALL!!! THERE IS NO "enable mass storage" to check or uncheck on this page or on the dropdown menu from this page. I have spent about an hour reading online and trying to figure this out and can not find a solution. HOW DO I DISABLE mass storage mode on my Sprint Curve 3G in this new 6.0 bundle 1659?

It's stil there in BlackBerry device OS 6.0. The name is changed from 'Mass Storage Mode' to 'Media Card Support'.
From the Home screen of the smartphone, click
    Options> Device> Storage> Media Card Support

  • Ipod 4th gen Win XP needs a mass storage driver but can't find one

    Hi Guys,
Just got a new PC, Ipod Was fine on my old one. However under Win XP, Ipod update and Itunes all installed correctly, but XP keeps asking for a MAss Storage driver. Tried alsorts of things including reinstallation of all iPod Software, but still as soon as I plug in my iPod, XP detects new hardware and asks for driver. ITunes doesn't detect iPod, but will happily play songs in my Library.
    Help.
Maybe I need an idriver or an iXP operating system
    Cheers
    Andy.

Its a new PC, so the install was from the original XP CD, then installed iPod and iTunes Software. I assumed the drivers where in the iPod Disc and not from the XP disc. I'll try the XP Cd.
    Thanks
    Andy.

  • Ipod not being recognized...Windows XP Mass Storage Problem

I'm like many of you who installed the new Itunes 7 and is having the same connection problems. My 30g video Ipod will not be recognized on my laptop and itunes. I believe my usb cord is working properly because when I connect my ipod into the laptop it charges.
I've tried everything that was said on this forum: the five r's, disk mode, updating drivers, etc.
But I was wondering: I have the iCarPlay FM Transmitter Has anyone noticed, that when they connect their ipod into it, a error pops up on the screen: "USB Connection and Firmwire are not compatible"...something along that line. And now when I connect my ipod, the sound is absoultely terrible! It only comes out of one speaker in my car. My friend owns an ipod nano and hers works perfectly with my transmitter.
Now my other question: I don't see my ipod in the device manager...but I do see is Mass Storage Controller highlighted with a big yellow exclamtion triangle. I click on it and try to install from the ipod cd and nothing happens, I can't even uninstall it. Do you think that's my ipod not working?
Also, I've tried connecting my ipod to my two computer desktops and it's not recognized either and I also tried connecting my ipod to my sister's Mac computer and nothing happens.
Any other suggestions to help my ipod? When the heck is Apple going to respond with a new update?
I should of just bought the Zune instead of the iPod!
Dell Inspiron 700m   Windows XP   laptop

Follow the instructions in this link: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136 Even if there are no updates available, follow the instructions to reload your USB driver. After that, go into Device Manager, right click on your iPod and reformat it (FAT32). After this go into iTunes and Restore your iPod.
"I should of just bought the Zune instead of the iPod!"
I know you are frustrated, but statements like this don't exactly motivate others here to help you. And if you think that would solve your problem, go to the Zune discussion groups.

  • ITunes recognizes other mass storage devices/network but not iPod

When I plug my iPod into the computer, Windows and iTunes recognize that the iPod is connected. A windows bubble from the sys tray tells me that a mass storage device was detected, and a iPod icon appears in iTunes. However, iTunes does not connect to the iPod; for some reason it connects itself to the network (ethernet connection) or to my external hard drive (USB connection), in that order. It will recognize the network as the iPod, unless it is disconnected, and then it will recognize the hard drive as the iPod. If neither of these devices are connected, then the computer doesn't recognize the iPod at all unless I restart it. Thus, to get the computer to recognize my iPod, I have to disconnect my network, and my external hard drive, restart the computer and plug in the iPod. After this point, I can reconnect both devices and everything works. What's going on?

    hi ephmike!
that sounds like classic symptoms of a Windows drive letter confusion problem. let's see if this document will help:

  • Using an old iPod as a mass storage device...

    Hey there!
    So, here's my dilema:
My (almost-3-year-old) iBook died on me 4 weeks ago. The logic board bit the dust and it's not covered by that 3 year logic board replacement program that Apple set up. So they (official Apple service centre here in London) want to charge me £728.50 to replace the logic board when a brand new MacBook would cost me £740.00. (If I could afford to fix the logic board I'd just buy a new MacBook!!!)
Anyways, that gripe is going into another forum...
Sooooooo.... I have an old Version 3 iPod that I want to use as a mass storage device but in a PC-based environment. So, if I re-format it for PC is it recogniseable/useable with Macs as a storage device still?
I know that PCs don't recognise Mac stuff but, and correct me if I'm wrong, I remember something about Macs recognising PC stuff??
    So here's an example:
    * I want to reformat my old V3 iPod into a Windows environment.
    * I then want to take my newly re-formatted V3 iPod (set for disk use only) and use it to back up stuff (files, documents, MP3s) from my old, broken iBook (take it from the hard drive).
    * Then I want to take those files, documents and MP3s and put them onto a new, Windows-based laptop (which I am yet to aquire).
    Is this do-able?
    Thanks peoples!

" I know that PCs don't recognise Mac stuff but, and correct me if I'm wrong, I remember something about Macs recognising PC stuff??"
An iPod formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. There are third party helper programs to overcome that, however Macs can read Windows formatted drives so you should be able to use your old iPod as a straightforward removable drive without any problem.

  • Ipod as mass storage device

    Hi
I have an older gen ipod nano which I have synced in the past with a now defunct desktop computer.  I've been told I can move my music over to my current laptop by getting the laptop to recognise it as a mass storage device.  I've tried just looking in Libraries on my laptop but no music shows in the list.  Any idea how I get around this one please?
    Thanks in advance.
    Shelley

    Hi Shelley-Jane,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
If the music that is currently on your iPod nano was purchased from iTunes, you can use iTunes on the computer to transfer those purchases into your computer library.

  • IPOD seen as two drives(USB Mass Storage & and Dell USB )

My IPOD classic has not worked properly since I updated my OS to Windows XP. At first the IPOD was seen as two different USB controllers (Apple USB Driver, and a USB Mass Storage Device) I've gone through every troubleshooting article on the apple website. After downloading a hotfix, my computer recognizes the IPOD as an IPOD but it doesn't connect to itunes long enough for me to restore it. It automatically disconnects after being plugged into the computer. If anybody can help, please, please please let me know.
    Thanks.

I just purchased an ipod classic 120GB and after downloading itunes to the computer I can no longer use my DVD/CD drive as the ipod is using that drive now, which is the E drive on my computer. I noticed that if I uninstall itunes I get to use my DVD/CD drive again. I do not know what next to try either. So my ipod is seen as a mass storage device, I need help too, can anyone help?
