Synchronize mail with iCloud

I installed Lion one week ago and I wonder how to save my mails into iCloud, the mails I receive via my ISP.  Which configuration is needed?
Thanks for your answers

You can't add other accounts to iCloud. If you want to have all emails in your iCloud account from other providers, just copy them to the inbox of iCloud.

I have not been able to sync my mail with iCloud on my MacBookPro (Lion OS).  Everything else has been syncing fine for the past two months, but when I go to System Pref/iCloud/and try to check Mail, it asks me to choose an iCloud email address. When I put in my regular @me.com email, it says that address already exists (of course it does - it's mine!) and wants me to choose another one.  But I want it to sync with my stuff.  What can I do?  I haven't been able to find help anywhere online...  Thanks!

You should have signed in with that address in the first place, but there is a workaround: go to System preferences>Mail, Contacts@ Calendars and add your @me.com address as an account there.

iCloud does not handle any mail systems except for its own. BT is not an iCloud mail system, so you can't.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Gmail and iCloud are different mail services, so you can't recover Gmail mails with your iCloud mail

I cannot send mail with my ipod touch using my icloud account

I'm just posting this as I did for all these threads for the same issue:
Ok I think this problem here is Apple... It's a DNS problem. You get this problem depending on what smtp server you are registered on.
I always get the message that "p06-smtp.mail.me.com" failed...
But according to the nslookup command there are only the servers "p01, p02, p03, p04"... no p05 and p06 or p07 and p08 ...
What I did to get it to work (only considered as workaround):
first I tried to add a second SMTP server with the address "smtp.mail.me.com", it seemed that the mail went through... but never arrived... then I configured "p01-smtp.mail.me.com" as second server and it worked!!
What is the problem with this workaround?
When you change the password! As it doesn't accept the Apple Token you must configure your Apple ID credentials manually... however when you change them, you have also to change the manually configured second SMTP server!

  • Setting mail with iCloud

    Hi,
I'm trying to setup mail with my iCloud account but when I use the mail app I can't see my mail. When I go on the iCloud web site everything works fine but it's not working on my Ipad. I can send email with it no problems but I can't see the content of my inbox. I check the setting in my Setting>Mail, contact and everything looks ok. Was I supposed to get an activation email from iCloud? I don't know what to do anymore it's really frustrating...
    Thanks

iCloud email is IMAP, which means that your Mail application reads the messages from the server. Therefore if you delete a message from your Mac, it will also appear deleted online at icloud.com and on your iPhone.
Your signature says you have 10.5.2 - is this correct? (If not please update your signature to prevent confusion). If it is, you can access email on an existing iCloud account (you would have to set the account up on your iPhone) though no other iCloud facilities will work. The setup method is described, with illustrations, here:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard

  • HT4898 Why is Apple downgrading sync support for Mail with iCloud?

In the past, if I didn't move forward when Apple moved forward, all that happened was that I did not have access to new features.
This time, with the demise of MobileMe and the introduction of iCloud, if I don't move forward I lose features, but even worse, even if I do move forward, I still lose features.
In particular, the lack of syncronization under iCloud of Mail's Rules, Accounts, and Smart Mailboxes means that on our several machines I have to manually do updates multiple times, which of course leads to multiple mistakes.
In my view, what Apple has done has the look and feel of customer abuse, something usually attributed to another large tech company.  I can't avoid losing functionality, whether or not I move forward with Apple.
The word disgraceful comes to mind.
Is there a good reason for Apple's policies that concern Mail-feature synchronization?  I'd like to hear them.

What is the point in speculating? All it does is lead to misinformation being put out, a lot of which ends up being taken as fact by those who don't realise it is just speculation. Speculating on unproven facts does not lead to understanding. If you don't know the true reason for something, how can you understand it?
I should not have picked up on the word, speculate, which you introduced in your first reply to me.  These are called Apple Support Communities, after all, and so I was hoping there was a reader somewhere who knew more about the tech world, in particular Apple's world, than I do, and was also someone who could shed light on why Apple has taken the path it has taken.
And Apple aren't saying you can't speculate at all - just not here, on Apple's official forums ... . We're Apple's guests on these forums so  ... you abide by the rules.
So, I checked the Terms of Use, and of course, you are correct. Apple wants no criticism of their policies on the Apple Support Communities forums.  The ASC forums are operated on Apple's dollar, and hence they have the right to manage the forums as they see fit.
The "agreements" we sign every day to use various digital services (or banking services, for that matter) are not negotiated understandings.  They are of the form, "our way or the highway".
Exactly, and if you don't agree with it. Don't use it. Nobody is holding a gun to your head. MobileMe and iCloud and all the other services Apple offers are optional. Nobody has to use them.
I'm disappointed that you used the gun-to-your-head argument, because it stands out as sophmoric, especially in the light of your other observations.  Today's corporations do everything they can to insulate themselves from legal actions of disgruntled customers.  Some of that is understandable because of the litigious nature of our society.  But the one sided agreements, tantamount to sign and we play, otherwise we take our ball and bat and go home, are in fact a de facto coercion to sign.  Were we all to say, No, to such agreements, our society would have to return to the pre-transistor era.  In order to live in our modern society, we have to sign.
I went right to the top months ago, but as is common with the stereotypical large corporation, and now Apple, I was totally ignored.
Just because you didn't receive a reply, doesn't mean your email was not considered. ...
And making requests via email to a CEO isn't like a drive-thru restaurant where they take your order and immediately do as you asked (shareholder or not).
As a matter of logic, the fact that someone does not answer one's letter does not mean that the letter was not read or considered.  As a matter of probability, however, it is quite likely that the letter was ignored or read and ignored, especially since CEO's of large corporations have a staff to handle things like this.  I wrote to Cook because it was reported that he paid attention.
And thanks for educating me on the difference between a CEO and a drive-thru restaurant.
Well, in keeping with the ASC Terms of Use, I'm not supposed to be talking about any of this.  So with due deference to the Terms, over and out.

  • HT4864 Is there any way to use POP mail with iCloud?

Hi newbie here, so be kind!  Just trying to set up iCloud on my new iPad, my iPhone 3G and my oldish Windows PC running Vista.  I have managed to get the iPad and iPhone running relatively well, but the real reason I wanted to synch all my devices was because I am buried beneath all the emails that I receive each day and cleaning them off three devices was a real hassle (1st world prob I know).  My PC is running Windows mail because I couldn't get Yahoo mail to run on POP or IMAP settings. So I have been happily downloading Yahoo mail (via) POP into Windows mail for a few years now.  However I have hit an Apple Support doc saying that I cannot use POP settings in iCloud (if you know what I mean), I have to use IMAP.  Can anyone help me with what settings I need to put in Windows Mail to make it sync with the mail client on my phone and iPad?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    GB

Gmail and all POP systems are not iCloud mail. iCloud mail ends with @mac, @me or @icloud.com, Gmail and POP systems are not handled by iCloud mail systems.

  • RE: Can't send mail with iCloud from Mac

OK so you have made everyone using a mobileme account switch to iCloud-  I still use the mail icon on my Macbook Pro and every now and then
the server quits and does not allow me to send emails.  I run the server doctor and only my address gets the green light.  The smtp.me.com: my username
is always red.  I have checked my user name and made sure my password is correct and still I m locked out of sending emails.  I have time sensitive work that I need to send it to clients and there is nothing more frustrating than having to tell a client, I can't send an email right now.  What can be done for this.

maybe you can figure out why I can't send any email and possibly help me to fix the problem.  I m not a fan of iCloud it has been nothing but a headache and I am tired of having to put my clients off.  I am loosing money thanks to all of this.

It's a bad idea to post your email address - it's an invitation to spam - and I've aasked the Hosts to remove it.
The first thing to try would be to sign out in System Preferences>iCloud, then sign back in again and check 'Mail' and any other data types you need in the list. This will set Mail up, hopefully correctly.
If you are still having problems accessing or sending mail go to http://appleid.apple.com and change your password, making sure that it complies with Apple's requirements: at least eight characters, of which at least one must be a numeral and one a capital letter.
Note that iCloud does not interact with any other email service. You cannot use it to check other email accounts, and you cannot send using its smtp server with any address other than your @me.com one as the 'From' address.
You should be able to set up other accounts separately in the Mail application: these would be unaffected by iCloud in any way.

  • Synchronize mail with entourage ?

How can I synchronize all my content of Entourage with Mail ?
    Thank you

    Hi cafenoir10,
If you are having issues configuring Mail on your Mac to work with your Entourage account, you may find the following article helpful:

  • Sent mail with iCloud should appear on all devices? How?

I have Sent mail in Apple mail iCloud account on iMac set to be stored on server.
However, my iPhone Apple Mail does not see Sent mail that I send with iMac.
However, my iPad does see the Apple Mail I send on the iMac.

You might want to check, but for most syncing accounts such as IMAP and Exchange, only the Inbox will sync. The other folders will not sync unless they are set to in Options. Check and see if there is a difference between the setting of your iPad and iPhone. I know that I have to open/refresh my Sent folder on my work Exchange account to be able to see the latest sends, since I do not have it set to push to the Sent folder.

  • Syncing mail with iCloud

have different email accounts all synced through mail but onlu the icloud mail account syncs with mail can the google and the yahoo be uploaded to icloud as well?

No.  Only the iCloud mail account (and no other mail account) syncs through iCloud.

  • Setting up mail with iCloud

    Several questions:
I am getting an iPhone 5 and am also going to tether it to my iMac to get my email and for web browsing,
especially for larger files.  I am dumping my current DSL provider as a result.  The DSL provider
has all email run out of Google's gmail.
    1) If I get iCloud email, will this download into the Apple mail on my iMac, and do I have to delete
the messages from iCloud mail after getting them on my iMac?
    2) If I don't get iCloud email, am I stuck having to go to a web site to get my email?

iCloud email is IMAP, which means that your Mail application reads the messages from the server.

  • Problem Syncing Mail with iCloud

I have been unable to receive email from iCloud on my iMac since September 17,2012. On that date I set up my new Mac Book Pro with the same email address and Apple ID in iCloud. The form of my email address is [email protected] I used to have a MobileMe account which I moved to iCloud several months ago and it had been operating perfectly well. When I opened that account I used an existing email as my Apple ID in the form of [email protected] However, up to April 17, everything was working perfectly well. In addition, two days ago I bought a new iPad and set it up with the [email protected] Apple ID. I tried deleting the iCloud account from the iMac and doing everything from the ground up, but it does not work. The mail continues to search for something (you see the small wheel turning constantly as if searching for something) but it does not do anything. Mail in the Mac Book Pro is working perfectly well as is on the iPad and iPhone. What can I do?

Let me get this right, you got a mail problem 5 months from now and succeeded in fixing it 5 months before you got it. ?

  • Connecting Macbook Pro mail with Icloud mail

I can't get my new macbook pro email to connect with my icloud email. I need to know the correct smtp server name and have no clue how to find it. I have already enabled icloud on the computer and click mail. It would automatically configure for some reason.

You don't, and can't, configure iCloud mail settings manually. Check the Mail box in the iCloud preference pane.
