Synchronized color register mark grayed out

The color register mark at the top of the Color Settings dialog window sometimes is a gray circle with an exclamation point, instead of the colored register mark showing the pie outbreak when color settings are not in sync. What would make it gray and prompt you to look at color settings?

This is a question for the appropriate forum for whatever application and platform you are using. This is not a color management issue.

  • Synchronized register mark at top of Color Settings box grayed out

Using CS3. This has happened at home on XP and at work on Leopard.
The color register mark at the top of the Color Settings dialog window sometimes is a gray circle with an exclamation point, instead of the colored register mark showing the pie outbreak when color settings are not in sync. What would make it gray (and I believe prompts you to look at color settings)? Sometimes it works correctly but sometimes it does the above.
    Thanks.

Hi John. Thanks for the post. Actually though, when the color settings are out of sync the top right segment of the register mark "pie" juts out and the "unsyncronized" info comes up. What I'm referring to is that, at random times, there is no color register mark at the top left of the color settings dialog window and in its place is just a gray circle (almost like a talk balloon in the comics) and there is a black exclamation point in it. Usually, on by system everythng displays correctly with the color register mark that is intact when color settings are in sync and disjointed if they are out of sync, but I don't know what causes this other thing.
    Thanks.

  • Color settings grayed out in Print Settings

    Photoshop CS5 v12.1.
    Mac OS 10.6.
I'm printing to an Epson R1800 printer.
Print. Choose Color Management. Choose Document. Choose "Photoshop manages color". Choose the correct printer profile that matches the paper I'm using. Choose Relative Colorimetric.
THEN, I click Print Settings...under the 4th drop downu I choose "Print setting..." again. Under "Basic" "color" and "Color settings" are grayed out as are some of the "Media Type" options.
Is this normal? The problem is my black and white prints are printing really badly. They have color tones. I've cleaned the nozzles on my Epson printer, done everything the print utility suggests. All the test prints look fine.
I'm at a loss. Am I missing something obvious?

I see you haven't gotten much input so far from the Mac experts...
As a Windows user without an Epson printer myself, I can't comment on why you might have color problems under the covers where the software doesn't seem to be following the chosen settings.  However, perhaps I can get you thinking about how to further diagnose the problem...
The obvious thing I see is that you've chosen "Photoshop Manages Colors" in the main dialog, which implies your intent is to shut off color-management in the printer driver itself.  So to me the graying out of those settings in this case seems to make sense.
Have you tried a test print using the "Printer Manages Colors" setting?
Also, to try to test whether color-management isn't being turned off in the printer (regardless of what the grayed-out settings show), do you see any improvement if you use "Photoshop Manages Colors" but choose a standard profile, such as sRGB IEC61966-2.1 for the Printer Profile setting?

  • Register grayed out--Moving Install

I got CS4 Design Premium and Production Premium several years ago.  I needed to get a new motherboard and hard drive for my computer and I'd like to move these programs to the new drive, or at the very least I need them to work with my new board (which is about 7 years newer than my current board).
I've since lost the serial numbers/product keys for these suites.  It looks like I registered Production Premium, so I can see my serial number when I sign into my adobe account online, however it doesn't look like I ever registered Design Premium.  When I try to register this from any of the programs (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, etc) Help>'Register' is grayed out (Deactivate and Update are NOT grayed out).  How can I recover this serial number/product key or register my product so that it will show up on my account?
From everything I've read, once I get these two serials I should be able to Deactivate my programs and install them on my new hard drive and activate them on there.  Do I have to Deactivate each program, or will deactivating one program take care of the whole suite?
Thanks in advance for any help or tips!

Adobe doesn't know what you don't know. If you never registered, there is no way to retrieve a serial post facto. If you bought directly from Adobe and still have the invoice, they may have it somewhere in the database and be able to help, but that's as good as it gets.

  • How to convert illustrator file containing a photograph to grayscale when the "convert to grayscale" option is grayed out?

It's been several years since I've done any design work at all. I recently got a job as a designer, and on my first day I had to create an ad in illustrator 5.5 (required to be in illustrator) for print in a black and white publication. There was even an ad template to use. I placed the photo and tried to use the "convert to grayscale" option but everything under the edit colors menu was grayed out. I know it's because of the photo. In the end I changed the photo to grayscale in photoshop and replaced the image, but I know there is another way around this. Can someone please help me figure out how to fix this issue?
Thank you so much in advance!

If the placed image is linked, Edit Colors will not allow conversion to grayscale; however, an embedded image will work just fine. The flyout menu in the Links Panel allows you to embed the image.

  • Flashing Folder with Question Mark, Disk Utility Grayed Out

I was working on my macbook pro when it appeared to freeze, so I manually shut it down by pressing the power button. When I pressed it again to restart the computer, the restart "chime" sounded, and a flashing folder with a question mark appeared shortly after. The folder flashes for a few minutes, and the macbook turns off again. After consulting the internet, I restarted while holding command+r, and the computer told me to reconnect to the internet, select a language, and so on. When I reached the menu giving me choices for how to recover my information, I discovered that there were apparently no time machine backups recognized and when I tried to use the "first aid" option in Disk Utility, all of the action buttons are grayed out when I select the drives (I'm running OS X Mavericks) at the left, including the "Verify" option at the top. Is there anything I can do? I really would rather not restore a new version of OS X to preserve my information.

Thanks for the response. When I clicked on the option to reinstall, the window asking me to select the disk where I would like to install Mac OS X presents no options. There's just a blank white box with no other messages or prompts.

  • Register marks move to top of imposed PDF after color convert

I have an imposed PDF made up of 16 smaller files...It is imposed from Metrix and it creates a PDF.
I need to map the spot colors onto the color bar...I go to (ink manager) change the colors then (color convert) to map the colors
and the register marks go to the top of my work covering some of the images...the size of the one up is 9 x 4 (Trim) but the size of the media
with register marks is 10 x 5... after imposing the one up in Metrix.... Metrix creates registration marks and everything looks ok...
the pages imposed are centered from trim box and they impose correct....it is only after the color convert that the one up register marks
go to the top of the imposed file....I've talked to the people at Metrix...they have nothing on this matter....This issue only happens in
Acrobat 8 (Mac and PC) and Acrobat 9 (PC only) mac version of 9 is OK....Please don't tell me to flatten the file....our rip system can handle

  • The To Do List Items in Mail are grayed out. I can't edit or mark them :(

As stated in the title, the To Do items in Mail are all grayed out, I can't edit or mark them complete anymore. In iCal, on the other hand, To Do items are working correctly. I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and the To Do items were working fine before, but are not now.

Sorry, I should have explained it more. I had 186 To Do items in the Mail To Do section that were working fine before I installed Snow Leopard (I was able to mark them complete or incomplete, rename, and edit them). After installing Snow Leopard, half of them are grayed out and half of them are working correctly. I am unable to mark the grayed out To Do items complete, or rename or edit them. The To Do items that are grayed out are random, like, it's not all of the complete ones, or all of the ones that are in a month or so.
    Here is a screenshot: http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/4743/screenshotgh.png
I know it's not the biggest deal, I just used to use Mail as my To Do thing If you know of a better app for the kinds of To Dos you see in the screenshot, let me know

  • Why is the Custom button in the Marker settings dialog grayed out in CS6?

I'm wondering why it's grayed out and what its purpose is. Also, is there any way to make the Marker window display Names as well as comments? I feel like the comments field would be used for notes and comments while the name field is used to actually name the marker. It seems weird that the name field wouldn't be displayed in the Marker window and that the only way to identify which is which is by the thumbnail and comments.

  • 9500 Mark II Printer and Photoshop (Mac) Quality and Media Grayed Out

I have a PIXMA 9500 Mark II.  I am using the printer on an iMac.  In Photoshop, when I choose Quality and Media, the area to choose paper type and tray are grayed out.  It work fine in Safari.
I have spoken to Canon, Apple and Adobe and no one seems to be able to get it to work.  It works in Safari.

    Hello larrygm.
Unfortunately, if you continue to have difficulties with accessing the printer settings, we would have to advise that you use our Easy PhotoPrint Pro plugin with Photoshop or print the image using a different program.
The Easy PhotoPrint Pro plugin can be downloaded from our website and is compatible with most versions of Photoshop.  Once installed, you can access the plugin from the File/Automate menu of the program.
