Synchronizing emails between my iBook and my Mac Mini

Hi there, I've had a search around this forum and I can't find an exact response to my query (most likely my search string blows).
Anyway as the title suggests I've got an iBook and a Mac Mini. I have an email account that is hosted on a web server based upon my own domain name and thus no affiliation to the .mac service. Also I use Mail as my email application.
Up until a couple of week ago I used iMAP to allow me access to my mail and my mail folders on both computers. All hunky dorey. A couple of unfortunate events have left me in a bit of a pickle however. First my server that hosts my iMap email has disappeared off the face of the planet and by the looks of it so have the hosting company as I have lost all contact with them. On the same day however my Mac Mini died on me and required a clean install of Tiger.
Here's where the problems come in. Obviously I can no longer get my emails from the server as it no longer exists. My Mac Mini was the main computer for accessing mail, so the full bodies had been downloaded for each message when I opened them. Problem two, my Mini is now wiped.
My ibook is used for infrequent email access so although it still shows the folder structure for my emails, mirroring that of my old server, it has only downloaded the bodies of one or two emails and the rest are just headers and subjects.
Needless to say I'm now a little wary of iMAP as I've lost around 1000 pretty important emails from the last 5/6 years. Also as much as .Mac is kool, I a) want to keep my own domain based email address and b) I will have more than 1GB of email within no time so it'll end up costing me way more than I'm prepared to pay.
Now that you've got my life story, time for me to explain where I need help. I'm probably looking to use POP mail now so I have a downloaded copy of my mail, however I would be willing to use iMAP if there is a way I can get my iBook to automatically download the full message bodies without me having to open each email or select its folder.
Is there a way to do this?
An other option would be to use POP, as mentioned, and I would be looking to synchronise my emails (including it's folder structure) between my two macs?
Is there a way to do this?
Thanks for your help and sorry for such a long story
Gareth

Try searching Mail Help instead (see below). Another place to search for this type of information is http://search.info.apple.com/.

Yes. If you type IMAP in the Mail Help search box you should find an article titled Synchronizing an IMAP account to use offline that contains the information you're looking for.

  • Squawking speaker when iChat between my iMac and parents Mac mini

When we iChat with my parents, there is a terrible squawking coming from their end. Daddy is very hard of hearing and that may be contributing to the problem. When Mom turns the speakers down so that the squawking goes away then he can't hear. They have tried turning the speakers away from the computer to avoid feedback, but no real help.
It would sure be nice to be able to iChat with them without all the squawking.
    Thanks for any help.

iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   other computer is a Mac mini

    Hi Margi,
It may be Headphones will help.
If the both need to hear then some that can be used with a Splitter (Like two people with a Walkman) and a normal 3.5mm Audio stero jack to plug into the computer.
Other options would be USB headphones but iChat and the OS does limit the output to one device.
The choice of an external mic may help if it is not too omnidirectional.

I have separate speakers behind my screen and a USB mic sat a few inches from my mouth meaning the Mic is a good foot (30cms) in front of the Speakers

How do I sync my email between my iPhone and iPad?

A razmee209 said, set up your email in settings on both devices.
iPhone email will always be up to date.
The iPad will update when it has internet connection.   If it is a wifi only iPad, it will only update when connected to wifi, but will do so automatically.

Ok, so my whole family has the same apple ID so that we can all get the same music, and we want to be able to use icloud so that when one person buys a song it will push to all of our devices. But the problem is when I want my calendar on my mac to also be pushed to my phone it pushes to all of my familys devices. How can i keep the music pushed to everyones but the calendar and notes just between my phone and my mac using icloud?

Oops my bad...I see that during my troubleshooting I inadvertently left Ringtones unchecked in iTunes.

  • Does anyone know of a simple to do list app that syncs between an iPhone and a Mac?

Does anyone know of a simple to do list app that syncs between an iPhone and a Mac?

Not sure exactly what you are going for...
You're aware you need to use iTunes to sync apps between your iPhone and Mac unless you are running V10.7.2 and have iCloud setup.
BTW...  apps that are optimized for an iPhone will not run on the Mac OS X and vice versai, two different operating systems.
It really helps to tell us which Mac OS X you have installed when you post for help. Thanks!

  • HT4783 why can't airdrop work between iOS (iphone) and OSX (Mac Computers)?

why can't airdrop work between iOS (iphone) and OSX (Mac Computers)?

NNot sure if anyone help you resolve this or if it works with Mavericks but with Yosemite I couldn't send From iPhone 5 or iPad mini 2 because my Macbook Pro wasn't able to be seen via AirDrop. After a grueling 4 hours with support and factory resets of both devices I was transferred to the CPU Support team, which resolved my issue in about 3 mins. Needless to say I wasn't happy but figured I should help anyone else in the same boat as me. I have both devices operating on iOS 8 and MacBook pro rubbing Yosemite.
    1. Open Finder Window -> Airdrop -> Change setting for "Allow me to be discovered by:" to no one and close the finder window.
    2. Go To Apple Logo -> Force Quit -> Select Finder from App List -> Force Quit.
    3. Open Finder Window -> Airdrop -> Change setting for "Allow me to be discovered by:" to everyone and try to send file from iPad / iPhone to computer.
This process allowed the computer to be seen / recornized on the iOS deVice. Hope this helps.

  • Sync calendar between 2 iphones, 1 ipad and a mac mini

    We have 2 iphones (acount x and y) 1 ipad ( account x) and a mac mini (account x).
On all device i've succecfully installed our home e-mail (imap). So this works.
Now i want the possibility to sync our home calendar between all 4 devices.
Is this an option and if so how do i set this up?
    Thnks. Antoine

    Hello Paul.
Can she sync her iPhone calendar with .Mac over the air (if that makes sense)?
No this is not possible. Over the air syncing is not supported with the iPhone. All syncing is done via a USB connection with a computer through iTunes only.

  • How to connect my 60gb IPOD and my Mac Mini

I have my trusty 60GB ipod (no video), with the older wide connector and the funny USB or whatever it is symbol looks like a "Y".
    Nice grammer huh.
ANyway the cable I have doesn't plug in to my mac mini or MBP.
What cable do I use to hook 'er up to ITUNES on either system?

    Open Quicktime Player
    File Menu: New Audio Recording....
However... if the headphone/microphone combination has two 3.5mm jack plugs (pink and green) then the microphone output (pink) is "mic.level" - which is TOO QUIET for the audio input on a Mac, which is expecting the much stronger "line.level" signal strength.
Solutions: get a microphone pre-amplifier between the mic and the Mac (not cheap); or a different microphone with a USB interface.

  • I recently bought a new macbook pro and set it up using the migration assistant and my mac mini.  I can't get the text message forwarding feature to work with both computers.

I recently bought a new macbook pro and set it up using the migration assistant from my mac mini.  I can't get the text message forwarding feature to work with both computers.  It keeps saying that I only have 2 devices setup, my iPad and my macbook pro.  When I mess with the setting on my mac mini, it goes from saying that that is one of the devices to my macbook pro being the 2nd device.  I think that something happened as a result of my using the migration assistant and now it thinks that my macbook pro and my mac mini are one and the same computer.  Any ideas?

    Thanks, Sig.
The old computer is a 2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
The new one is a 2.3 GHz intel core i7
In going over this, thanks to "tallking it out" with you, I did discover the Text Edit problem.  Because I've still been unable to get the new computer text size (fonts or whatever) to match the old computer, I did not notice that the curser is now different--the line midway down the curser has to be placed on the line I am working upon, otherwise the edits go elsewhere on the page.  Now, with a bit of difficulty, I am able to get Text Edit to work correctly.
If you have any ideas as to why my menu bar and Text Edit type are still so slow, I'd love to have them.
(I went through the process you suggested earlier, re my Trackpad preferences, and found no improvement.)

If you still have the crashed Win computer, you may be able to recover your music and movies from the hard drive. If you have a friend with a hard drive USB connection kit and a PC, they should be able to help.  Otherwise, check locally for computer services that might do that for you (I think Best Buy Geek Squad may be able to help). If the drive itself is in good shape, it shouldn't be too expensive.

  • I have a Mac pro(1 free bay) and a mac mini I need to back both of them  Is it better to use an external NAS HD or an internal hard drive on my mac pro (mid 2010) What option has the faster GB/s?

I have a Mac pro(1 free bay) and a mac mini I need to back up both of them (time machine)  Is it better to use an external NAS HD or an internal hard drive on my mac pro (mid 2010)
What option has the faster GB/s?

Disk drive using native SATA bus interface will allow the drive to copy and always present and ready.
But once you have backup any hourly changes should be smaller and as long as the NAS and your switch should allow enough.
You should always have off line backups and don't rely on just one backup set or just TimeMachine.
WD RED models are designed for RAID and NAS and 7.2k instead of your more standard slower green 5400 rpm green models while still costing less than WD Blacks.

  • Do I have to buy two copy's of iWork for my ipad mini and my Mac mini?

Is it possible to just purchase one copy of iWork for use on my iPad mini and my Mac mini?

No. The developer needs to create and maintain the two versions separately.

  • Which Firewire Cable to connect an iMac and a Mac mini ???

    Hi guys
What Firewire cable should I buy to connect an iMac G5 and a Mac mini G4 and use a partition on the mini as a Target Disk?
    I've read something about 4 pin, 6 pin, 9 pin... 400, 800
I have no idea what type of cable I have to buy and if it makes different about performance...
    Cheers!

No, you need a FW400 6-pin to 6-pin cable and they are all the same. FW800 has an entirely different connector and neither the iMac nor the mini have it. It might be called IEEE1394 or iLink on the package, but it is all FireWire 400 in stores generally. I have never seen a FW800 cable in a regular retail store.
