Synchronizing Multi-clip using 2 Sets of Time codes

i have some concert footage I want to edit using Multi clips...
They are all time coded....
We shot close ups in the afternoon of all songs and then the same songs again in the night .
The after-noun songs have one time code and sync great in a multi clip..same as the night ones but have different time codes....
HOW do i get the afternoun and night clips into one Multi clip ,all in sync...????? using time codes?
ROB

Did all camera rolls run throughout the entire song? Or did you have starts and stops at different points of the song.
If you're using 'Inpoints' as your sync reference, all you should have to do is set an inpoint on each camera take. The differing timecodes won't matter, just that your inpoints are all at an initial sync point.

  • Using set until time for duplicate is extremely slow

Whenever I do a duplicate using the set until time it takes forever to get started. The executing command: SET until clause takes about 20 minutes, and then when allocating channels it takes about 10 minutes per channel. Both db's are 10.2.0.3, and in archivelog mode. When I do just a plain duplicate database it runs through just fine, no pauses or anything. Can someone please poing me in the right direction or shed some light on this issue for me?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Here is what happens when I kick off the duplicate command with the run block:
    RMAN> run {
    2> set until time "to_date('Mar 14 2009 06:00:00','Mon DD YYYY HH24:MI:SS')";
    3> duplicate target database to DEST;
    4> }
    executing command: SET until clause
using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
    Starting Duplicate Db at 17-MAR-09
    allocated channel: ORA_AUX_DISK_1
    channel ORA_AUX_DISK_1: sid=3985 devtype=DISK
    allocated channel: ORA_AUX_DISK_2
    channel ORA_AUX_DISK_2: sid=3984 devtype=DISK
    allocated channel: ORA_AUX_DISK_3
    channel ORA_AUX_DISK_3: sid=3983 devtype=DISK
    allocated channel: ORA_AUX_DISK_4
    channel ORA_AUX_DISK_4: sid=3982 devtype=DISK
    allocated channel: ORA_AUX_DISK_5
    channel ORA_AUX_DISK_5: sid=3981 devtype=DISK
It takes anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes to allocate each channel, then it proceeds with the restoring of datafiles from the last backup. After that is done then it switches all the files, then it does this to start the recovery of the archive logs:
    contents of Memory Script:
    set until time "to_date('Mar 14 2009 06:00:00','Mon DD YYYY HH24:MI:SS')";
    recover
    clone database
    delete archivelog
    executing Memory Script
    executing command: SET until clause
    Starting recover at 17-MAR-09
    allocated channel: ORA_AUX_DISK_1
    channel ORA_AUX_DISK_1: sid=3981 devtype=DISK
    allocated channel: ORA_AUX_DISK_2
    channel ORA_AUX_DISK_2: sid=3982 devtype=DISK
    allocated channel: ORA_AUX_DISK_3
    channel ORA_AUX_DISK_3: sid=3983 devtype=DISK
    allocated channel: ORA_AUX_DISK_4
    channel ORA_AUX_DISK_4: sid=3984 devtype=DISK
    allocated channel: ORA_AUX_DISK_5
    channel ORA_AUX_DISK_5: sid=3977 devtype=DISK
again it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to allocate each channel.

  • Trimming original clips using a paper EDL

i have searched the manuals without success, can you help with the following, I am a still photographer not a video editor and trying to do the basics?
i am trying to find a way of trimming the original clips down
    i have been given-
1 a final cut pro nested sequence of the camera rushes that has a burntin timecode window using the generator filter, this shows the timecode of the timeline not the timecode of the camera tape
2 the original camera clips on an AV hard disc drive
3 a printed list with picture and sound descriptions of each clip and the coresponding time codes for the in and out points to be applied to the clips
i have learned to do the following; in the timeline if i type the timecode of the first clips inpoint, the play head indeed goes to the correct position described in the EDL
i perform match frame and it finds the correct point on the clip but it looses the edit points when i go to the next clip
how do i trim the original clips, i cant trim the timeline, it has burned in time code?
thanks for your patince and understanding
    Mark

Match frame finds the frame in the original clip used in the sequence. once it has found the original clip you would need to type in the TC for the in in the upper right corner of the viewer window, hit enter and press the "i" key on the keyboard that will give you your inpoint. next type in the out tc from your list, hit enter and press the "o" key to set your out. drag the clip from the viewer into your new sequence or on a new layer on a duplicate of the original sequence. to duplicate a sequence hilite the sequence in the browser and from the edit menu "duplicate" you can now work off of that sequence and if you mess something up you still have your original sequence

  • Time code isn't displaying correctly

I have about 40 avchd clips recorded with a panasonic ag-hmc150p.  The camera came with edius editing software and when I import a clip it shows the embedded time code correctly.  However when I try to open the clip in premiere pro (cs4) it doesn't.  It starts at 0.  I have gone through the preferences and made sure that the time code was set to source.  How else can I force it to use the embedded time code?  Thanks.

Unfortunately, CS4 (and to my knowledge, CS5) doesn't read the timecode from AVCHD clips.

  • Multi-clip editing not working

    Hello everyone,
I need help with the multi-cam editing feature, I have done everything I know to be correct to setup my multi-cam editing.
    1. setting a common in point with my 3 cameras
    2. selecting each and creating my multi-clip
    3. setting my RT settings for multi-clip editing
    4. making sure open is set
The blue marks show up as I switch from angle to angle( I'm using the number pad as my switcher). The problem comes in when i stop and press the spacebar. The blue markers disappear and the cuts don't show up. Please help me understand what I could be doing wrong.

Thank you all for answering my question. Yet I have done all these things you both mentioned. Its as if there is a glitch. Prior to this post I found that I was switching and not cutting my selections, the adjustment was made and finally I thought I could edit in peace. When I hit the space bar after my cuts (no longer just selection) do not conform to my multi-cam timeline. I mean is there an order I should be doing things in to have this work. The crazy part is that it works sometimes and other times it just doesn't want to function correctly.
    steps taken:
    1. Setting a common in point with my 3 cameras
    2. Selecting each and creating my multi-clip
    3. Setting my RT multi-clip settings for multi-clip editing on timeline
    4. Loading my keyboard layout (which Cut video to angle etc.)
    5. Making sure Gang is set to Open
    6. Double click on multi clip in sequence to load onto viewer
    7. Setting my audio to center and other two to video only
-play the sequence, start switching and hope/ pray my cuts conform to the Seq.
I'm I doing something out of order here ?
    thanks in advance

  • Time Code Confusion

I'm running into a timecode problem and not sure what's going on.
Here's what's happening. I'm trying to capture the beginning of a tape. I have set my time code in and out points to 05:34:47:08 to 05:37:07:07. I'm using a DSR-11 deck which is set to display the timecode (of the tape) on my monitor. The Log and Capture window in FCP shows the same timecode that's coming from the deck. Both the monitor and log and capture will display the same time code for the out point. When I'm capturing the clip it's like FCP has a mind of it's own. It continues capturing well past the out point. When it does stop and I double click it into the viewer the output time code says 05:37:07:07, but the audio and video are different. Both the monitor and log and capture timecodes show 05:37:08:19 as the outpoint. I've captured other parts of the tape but now I'm not sure if the timecodes are correct because the "additional" footage overlapse footage that I've already captured which have different timecodes.
How do I know which timecode is correct the one that's being displayed on the monitor and in log and capture or the timecode of the captured clip? Is it possible to have two different timecodes on the same tape? The tape stock is new.
I hope this makes sense. Has anyone else had this problem?
    Thanks.

My sequence setting is DV NTSC, 29.97 edit time base and a audio rate of 48kHz, 16 bit. The digitized clip has these setting. When I play the clip section from the DV Cam tape I get the audio as recorded at 48kHz.

  • Time code burn ins with FCPX?

I was used to making time code burn ins with FCP7. I see there's no "time code reader" effect in FCPX. Anyone know how to with the new software or with Motion 5?  I suppose I could just use FCP7.

I found out that I could make a timecode reader using a Motion 5 effect.   The "timecode" effect in FCPX only generates, but if you use the "timecode" effect in Motion and publish it to FCPX, it will read the original timecode and you can make a timecode burn-in movie.
I can't seem to do the connect clip trick, but I can select all clips in the project, and then double click the effect and it will apply to all.
    I hope that helps.

  • Time Code Nightmare won't end -- PLEASE HELP!

Capturing ndf dvcam tapes to fcp, fcp seems to be reading them as df. We've tried to recapture several times, once the tc seemed to be good, then the clips all defaulted to the zero start time code--as if the media were corrupt? Why won't fcp read these tapes as ndf? We have followed all suggestions on logging and batch capturing correctly. Has anyone ever encountered tapes that just have some funky extra digital info that screws up fcp? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Shane, thanks for your help. Ok, so what does this "DVCAM are drop frame" thing? These are DVCAM and definately NDF. FCP initially wants to see them as df, but after one or two seconds of play sees that they are ndf. They read as that in the capture window, on the deck, when paused, etc. And yes, we actually get time code when we mark ins and outs. In fact, we capture the clips and get time code, but once we've quit the project and restarted, the clips have lost their time code and gone to zero-start. What a trip. I really don't understand. Other than that fcp is reading as df and then gets whacked out at some point when the math doesn't work out...
What do you think? Also, we are considering skipping the batch capture and doing capture now once the tape is rolling and fcp can see that it's ndf. Can we set fcp to abort on tc breaks when doing capture now? Or do you foresee any other problems with the capture now process?
    Thanks!

  • Bad aspect for Time Code Generator filter?

I'm making changes to an existing sequence which used the stock Time Code Generator filter to superimpose elapsed-time on an industrial process. However, after upgrading to Studio2/FCP6, the time characters are now elongated and narrow, with almost no leading between... almost as though it was pre-comped for 16:9.
As before, the filter has no controls for aspect or even font selection, so I can't really see a workaround; short term, I'm using AfterEffects to make a TCW to overlay.
What am I missing? Anyone aware of a possible FCP6 bug?

Probably not the same issue, but in a recent project using FCP 5.1.4 and Anamorphic DVCPro50 clips, the TCG would act weird (tall and thin, as if it failed to 'see' that it was on an anamorphic clip) when first applied but any adjustment to it forced it to snap to the correct aspect ratio. In my case, I only lowered the font size from 24 to 18.
But like I said, may not be the same type of issue...

  • Piero's time code generator/ FINAL CUT EXPRESS

Does anyone know how to use Piero's time code program? I cannot get the numbers to move once I place the effect on the clip. They just stay at 00:00:00. Using FINAL CUT EXPRESS

Getting the same problem. No numbers rolling over.
    Using: FCE 4.0.1, PF's TC Gen. v4.2
    Plugin used in: FCE
Filter is applied to a slug being composited over other clips (so I can apply PF's TC Gen. over a range of cuts, rather than each underlying cut)
    Timecodes: FCE TimeCode
    CURRENT TC: Checked, others unchecked.
Some font and size options tailored.
    Easy Setup:
    Format: HD, RATE: 25.00fps
    Use: HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 720p25
    Tips?

  • Time code reader procedure

    FCP 4.5
I want to burn in the time code over a copy of my final footage. When I open up the filter for the Time Code Reader to be applied, the instructions as to how to set the time code to the proper numbers doesn't appear.
I see no place in the filter procedures to adjust or enter the numbers.
    Any suggestions?
    John Rokeach
    [email protected]

there is no adjustment. It just reads the numbers.
Perhaps you were thinking of the time code generator?
Drop it on the sequence (nested as its own thing) and away you go.

  • Is Time Code retrievable?

I captured HD footage from a noncontrollable device (Sony FX1000) via HDMI instead of Firewire.
I notice that all clips start at zero time code regardless of where they were on the tape. Does Final Cut Pro have the actual tape time code stored somewhere? Can I tell FCP to display the real time code recorded on the tape instead of these new default numbers?
    Thanks.

SOL, amigo. Once you enter the realm of uncontrollable device, you say goodbye to source timecode.

  • CompactRIO RT freeze when I use "Set Time.vi"

I'm using a compactRIO and need to update the internal time of the device to be clock synchronized with my whole system. Everything seemed to work perfectly but when I try to apply an offset between 0 and -30 seconds, my compactRIO freeze. Nothing happen if I apply a positive offset or an offset "higher" (in a negative way) than -30 sec.
The duration of the freeze equals the offset I apply on my device and after this delay, everything comes back to normal. The freeze affects all my RT code (other processus as well) and not only the VI where I use the "Set Time.vi". The FPGA seems to be working during the freeze time because I got "DMA is full" error after the freeze and the FPGA LEDs keep blinking during the whole time (on the contrary the RT LED stop blinking).
Has any of you already noted something similar on compactRIO 9068 (Linux) ? Or do you have any idea of what is going on ?
    Thanks for you help.

    - I use regular loops, no absolute timing VIs only tick count or nothing.

    - The compactRIO stays connected during the freeze.

    Hello,
I'm not surprised by this behavior : the VI "set the time" define the absolut timing (hour and date) for the target : tha changes which are applied at this VI are applied at all the process ans task of the target.
The FPGA of the CompactRIO is not impacted by this : in your VI, you define "localhost" wich corresponded at the RT part of the cRIO system.
The FPGA continue to work separately of the RT part.
I agree that Set Time VI affects the whole RT code but what I don't understand is why "untimed loop" or "timed loop with internal 1 kHz clock source" (no absolute time) are affected by the absolute time shift.
The behavior doesn't happen on VxWorks target.
Int he most application, you use the VI  "Set the time" to define the absolut time at the initialization, and after you don't modify it.
I'm developing a continuous compactRIO data logger which (I hope ^^) should never stop even after hours / days / months of running. I have noticed a drift of 1.5 sec / day on my compactRIO so I must need to resynchronize it all the time.
