Synchronizing playback on multiple Final Cut Systems...

Everyone,
I'm setting up a room which will have 4 large LED screens on the walls. I have 4 Final Cut Systems (all with AJA boxes).
What I want to do is SYNCHRONIZE playback of all the systems for a presentation.
Basically, I'd like to have some sort of script (or something) that allows me to click in one place and it triggers ALL 4 of the Final Cuts to start playing their videos in sync. Audio will only be monitored through 1 master Final Cut and play via a surround sound system.
I did see "Virtual VTR Pro". WAY too expensive. It was about $10,000. I'm sure there's an easier way to do this...other than 4 people doing a countdown and simultaneously hitting play.
I'm sure someone will mention "Automate", but keep in mind...4 machines simultaneously.

Nice creative solution Travis
To do this the OP might check out the teleport software below

And there is an ehow posting to get two to work below.

I've never tried to do this myself but this idea might be the trick.

  • Quicktime playback error and Final Cut Pro

    Hi,
I'm having a problem watching a quicktime movie that I made in Final Cut Pro. I'm working on a project at school and the computers there are all G5's. I put the film together at school and I exported the movie using the default settings in Final Cut for quicktime for the web at the medium bandwidth level. Part of the assignment is to post a clip from the film on for playback on the net. The film is playable on computers with quicktime 7 installed, like the ones at school or my PC which has the latest version of quicktime on it. But on my Ibook I only have quicktime 6.5.3. I have an older Ibook, it's a G3 700Mhz running OSX version 10.2.8. The latest version of quicktime requires 10.3.9+. When I click the link for the clip it loads on a new page and then gives me an error message saying quicktime is missing a component and it's not available to download, I click ok and the video appears as a white box with the playback controls at the bottom. The audio works fine but there's no picture.
Is there an update somwhere for quicktime 6 that will fix the problem?

How to Identify the file*, video and audio** format of a movie or sound file
    In QuickTime Player
    Open the file
Window menu > Show movie info
    Look in the Format: field
Note that QuickTime Player may fail to display any audio information for some files.
    In MPlayer OSX:
Show the playlist window if it isn't already visible.
Drag the movie file into the playlist window.
Select the movie in the list
Click the "i" button for info
    In VLC
    Open the movie in VLC
    Window menu > Info
Click the black triangles so that they point down
Note that VLC does not display the file format, only the format of the content (audio and video) within the file. A file ending in .divx for instance, is probably in actuality an avi file but VLC doesn't show that information - MPlayer will and QuickTime Player will - if - QuickTime Player will open the file to begin with.

  • Differnet Final Cut system's outputting audio at different levels.

I recently got a new Mac Pro to update my Final Cut rig.
I have 2 BetaSP machines that are set so -20db tone coming out of FCP hits their VU meters at 0db.
Today I swap out the machines, and the new machine is putting out -20 at a much lower level. So I figure, adjust the machines, go about your business.
Problem is, I have 1000 or so video files that have been mixed with the old system, and while the Tone output from the new FCP is lower, the audio from these files is not.
I've gone through all the settings I can find, and nothing seems to hint that the audio output is adjustable.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

In the previous line you mean 'The new machine' is the new MacPro?
And with 'adjust the machines' you mean the BetaSP's?
    please be more specific.
Problem is, I have 1000 or so video files that have been mixed with the old system, and while the Tone output from the new FCP is lower, the audio from these files is not.
So you are saying that when you send out a -20db tone out of FCP (on the new MacPro) is coming out lower level than the old mac? And that video files come out on the same audio level on both Macs?
It's digital, so should be the same all the way. Somewhere a setting is wrong.
I've gone through all the settings I can find, and nothing seems to hint that the audio output is adjustable.
It is. Depends what you are looking at.
And what your hardware setup is. How are you going from FCP to the BetaSP deck?
    So what's your system setup.
    How are you comparing?
Are you aware of the Master slider in the audiomixer? (Option 6). I always keep that on 0. It only applies to sequences or clips that you have opened at that very moment in the Viewer or the Canvas. Is it changed in level somewhere?
    Depending on the hardware setup:
Did you check the audio output from the Mac under System Preferences?
Or if you use a Decklink card for output did you check the Audio Processing settings in the Apple > System Preferences > Decklink settings?
Or what other setup do you have?

  • Installing multiple final cut pro

Can someone explain how I could successfully install 12 licensed copies of Final Cut Pro on 12 MBPros?  I was wanting to pay for the software by using one iTunes/App Store account.

I don't know anything about the purchase of multiple licenses but once you have downloaded FCP X you can simply copy it across to the other computers as the app is "self-contained" unlike FCP 7.

  • Synchronized playback from multiple computers?

My roommates and I have about 5 computers all over the house. We can all access each other's iTunes libraries, but we would like to all be able to listen to the same playlist or songs at the same time as we wander around the house. There must be an app out there that allows the simultaneous playback from multiple computers, so that every computer can be playing the same song at the same time, no?

It looks like I could play my music in VLC, then broadcast a stream over the network, however, this won't account for latency, and won't do any synchronization of the other computers. Plus, I'm not really interested in using VLC for playlists and organizing my music... Is this in the works at Apple, by any chance?

  • Choppy Playback & Export AVCHD Final Cut Pro X

Just bought a Canon XA10. When I import the AVCHD files into Final Cut Pro X and drop them into my timeline, they play back choppy. They also play back choppy after exporting, regardless of file type. Tried optimizing and proxy, didn't make any difference. Also tried converting them to other formats (Prores, MOV, MPG2, MPG4) before importing, still play back choppy. The raw files looks fine on the camcorder and also look and play fine when you open them in Quicktime.
Is there a setting on the camcorder I need to try when recording (60i, PF30, PF24, 24P/MXP, FXP, XP+), or is there another option from within Final Cut to get the files to play back smooth?
    Thanks,
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities!
If your imported AVCHD clips play smoothly in Quicktime, but not in Final Cut Pro, see this article for some troubleshooting steps to try:

  • Synchronizing playback to multiple iOS 4.3 devices (a la AirTunes)?

I recently had my Airport Express die on me. What I liked about it was playing the same songs in different rooms of my house and controlling it all with the Remote App from my iPhone.
So I just set up the Home Sharing and AirPlay (4.3.1) only to discover that I can no longer have the same music playing at the same time on several devices like I could with AirTunes (4.2.1).
I don't want to buy more AirPort Expresses simply because I've had two burn out on me and a used iPod Touch isn't much more expensive and uses less energy if just sitting there accepting music streaming. Is there a way (with third party software or native) to get AirTunes-like streaming back on multiple iOS 4.3 devices?
    Thanks

Airfoil may be up to the task.
you may also be interested in Tango Remote Control to control playback on one iDevice from another.

  • Final Cut System Settings

In System settings the Audio Capture is grayed out. Is it supposed to be grayed out and why?
    Thank you

If you're capturing via Firewire, the audio is non-selectable because it transfers with the video as a single data stream. If you're using a capture card, please let us know which one ... there may be settings on the card's drivers that needs adjusting.

  • REAL final cut system slowness problem/issue

    I should wait for the post-house engineer....but, I don't want to:
I am having slow-ness issues on this FCP system I'm working on. Before I give you all the schematics of this system, I'll let you know that my temporary fix is copying the 'stuff' on the timeline and pasting into a new sequence.
I smell corrupt media/fx but that's just my AVID bkgd chiming in.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Tom

Yeah...I'll try that again but I had to move to another bay on Saturday because the slowness was just rediculous. They have XSAN/AJA systems here and i'm guessing this bay needs a fresh OS and FCS install...but, I can't wait for that.

  • Dropped Frames and Render/Playback problems in Final Cut Express HD

I use FCE HD and edit HD video off my Sony camcorder. Recently I've got rid of my old Imac G5 and have a newer 2GHz PowerPC G5 with more RAM (2GB) off a friend because my old mac wasn't fast enough and was incapable of playing back some of my edits.
At first when i got my new mac things looked faster and it was playing transitions without dropped frames etc. However now i've started editing again and imported new projects, i've got a big problem with dropped frames during playback and rendering. I get dropped frames during unedited clips let alone at transitions and for some reason, fce will no longer render video. Unedited clips from my latest project need rendering, which i've never had before, but when i try to render them the 'writing video...' pop up flashes, but nothing happens and the video is not rendered!
Now i can't watch and edit some of my projects without dropped frames stopping playback every other clip and i can't do anything with my new ones because the video need rendering but can't be rendered!
Can anyone help me out on either topic?

    Hi Ross,
Well, most people, myself included, would say you should consider yourself lucky if doing video via USB ever worked at all for you. Overall, USB is not up to the demands of video, and that is most likely why you are getting your dropped frames problem.
The solutions would be either use your internal HD or get a good external FW drive. I know this is frustrating, as it has been for many people who look at the raw specs where USB 2.0 appears faster than FW400 but in real life, for video especially, it is not.

  • I am having a problem with playback in Final Cut 6.0.6

    Hello,
I am having a problem with playback in Final Cut 6.0.6 of 1920x1080 60p footage.
I transcoded MTS files shot on a Sony NEX FS100 into Apple Pro Res mov files but the
playback stutters in Final Cut and QTime making it impossible to edit. Is this because the files
are just so big the computer is having a problem processing them? If so what should I edit in to preserve the
    best quality?
I am Running Mac OSX 10.6.8
    2x2.4 Ghz Quad Core Intel
    32 GB 1066 MHz DDR3
Admittedly my FCUT is out of date, I intend to up to X when I finish off an ongoing project.
    Thanks Luci

You might consider running diskwarrior on your drive (alsoft.com).  And run diskutility, repair disk.  A corruption of the drive could cause problems.  Also, drive speed starts to fall sharply as the drive gets full.  Make sure you have a minimum of 10% free space on the drive.  You might also get a utility to check the speed of the drive.  I think Aja has one.
Also, do you have anything else connected to the firewire bus?  If so, try disconnecting it.  You might also try disconnecting ethernet and turning off your airport.  Resetting your fcp preferences couldn't hurt.

  • Clean install Leopard or Tiger for Final Cut 2 on my g5?

Hi, I currently have the previous final cut on my g5, on a Tiger operating system. I just got the new Final Cut 2, and I'm going to do a clean install of the OS to have everything running as smooth as possible. Will Leopard speed things up (or slow things down) for Final Cut 2, or should I just reinstall Tiger with Final Cut 2?
    Thanks

My biggest concern isn't rendering, it's overall playback performance in final cut pro.
Also, I'm curious as to how much slower motion 3 will be then motion 2 will be, and if motion 3 would run faster or the same in leopard and tiger. If I'm not mistaken I believe motion performance is quite dependent on the graphics card. I have an ATI 256 meg card that ran motion 2 acceptably in tiger, though I'm wondering how motion 3 in leopard will be in comparison (with the same video card and g5)
    Thanks

  • Very Poor Final Cut Performance

We just upgraded to a Final Cut system from an older Avid system, but it seems to be performing well below expectations. If anyone could make suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
    Syptoms:
    - Dropping frames on virtually every application, from mere audio to standard def.
    - a weird flicker when playback stops (the screen goes black then refreshes with expected picture)
    - choppy edges on resized windows. (Real-time but it doesn't ask for a render)
    - Difference in color between paused video and playing video. (The playback appears to be the "correct" color)
    Explination of system:
Apple G5 running mac os 10.4.3
    Dual 2.3 Ghz Processor
    2.5 gigs memory
    ATI X850XT Video Card
    Blackmagic's Decklink HD Pro
    Blackmagic's HD Link
Final Cut Studio (Final Cut Pro 5)
The boot drive is an internal SATA 250 Gig Drive. This is where the Final Cut Application is.
Our scratch disk is a RAID using 6 external SATA drives controlled by a Tempo card. A Blackmagic Speed test returned 377 MB/sec read and 376 MB/sec write on these drives, so I don't think it's a bandwith issue. Drives are formatted without Journalling enabled.
All drives are new, optimized, and have been verified by Diskwarrior and Apple's Disk Utility.
I have also checked that each of the High performance PCI cards is in the right slot to optimize performance.
Things I've thought about but would like some input-
Is there a software cap that I haven't turned off?
Do I need to set up the Final Cut Application on the RAID Drive? (For quicker access to, say, preference files)
Could this be a symptom of a corrupt preference file?
    Powermac G5 Dual 2.3 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Welcome to the Forum.
I am sure you will be able to work at full throttle very soon. If my suggestion does not help I am sure someone will recognize your issue.
My suggestion is based on seeing pretty much what you describe in someone else's system and so I am offering the fix that worked.
The scenario you describe may reflect the operation of another application that is as hungry for "bandwith" and space as FCP. If you haven't, try turning Spotlight off. I also suggest that you trash the FCP preferences and repair permissions The last two can do no harm.

  • Undelete Final Cut Express File

I've tried File Salvage and Data Rescue II attempting to recover two FCE project files that were mistakenly Trashed/Deleted from a partition on my Lacie d2 500G external drive.
Both of these software packages easily recovered JPEG and the QuickTime and AIF files which were edited and synchronized within the FCE project file, but not the FCE file.
Data Rescue II for some strange reason recovered about 167 subfiles designated Final Cut Pro files which I cannot open with FCE 3.1.1 This is bizarre because the Lacie never contained any FC Pro project files, only two FCE files which were about 2 hours in duration.
I feel the information that I want is still there on the LaCie partition, but I can't get to it.
Anyone have any success with a problem like this? Use any other recovery software specific to FCE? Or am I out of luck?
    Thanks in advance,
    BoBo

    Tom,
Thank you, too, for getting back to me.
Really disappointed in the recovery software that I purchased (File Salvage & Data Rescue II) that it couldn't pull out the Final Cut Express project file. I spent about 200 dollars for them.
Really puzzled that Data Rescue II recovered multiple Final Cut "pieceparts", but instead of Final Cut Express, the software designated them as Final Cut Pro files. You could be right that the recovered "stuff" is previously discarded cache or render files.
Thanks for your suggestion about Drive Savers, but I just can't spend any more money on this mistake I created.

  • Final Cut Express vs. Final Cut Express HD

I am confused between Final Cut Express and the Final Cut Express HD. All the time I though I am using Final Cut Express HD version 4.0.1 which should be capable to capture HDV tapes (to my understanding) until lately I try to capture a tape shoot by a HDV camera (miniDV tape shoot by Canon) but was NOT successful. When I check back my application by opening a final cut project window >,About Final Cut Express, it shows I am using version 4.0.1, but I can’t capture the HDV tape shoot by the HDV camera. I went back to my application folder, I found I have 3 different Final Cut Express versions there which is including version 1.0.1 size 11.7 MB created Jan 25/03;version 3.0 size 160.3MB created Jan 25/05 (this version having HD wording at the end) and version 4.0.1 size 239.4MB was created Nov 6/07. Do I have to delete the version 1.0.1 and 3.0 to make the version 4.0.1 work well or something else in the system that I don't understand such as some kind of configuration should be set/change? Thank you in advance folks. By the way, some one can walk me through how to connect an old Mac 17” monitor to my new 27” iMac so that I can move the Canvas window over (I don’t know if it’s appropriate to ask this question here, if not, I apologize)? Thank you guys.
