Synchronizing with a second computer

Hi, I have just purchased a new computer and have found that my iPod won't synchronize with it, as it is still synched with the family computer. Is there any way of "un-synchronizing" my iPod with the family computer, so I could then synch with my new PC?
Thanks

When you connect to your new PC and get the message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7). This will will remove all the songs from your iPod and replace them with the ones on your new PC and link it to that library. If however you want to to use your iPod on both PCs you need to set your iPod to manual update. With this option switched on it won't sync with either library but will allow you to manually add songs from both:

  • Can I sync my ipod nano with my second computer/ netbook while travelling?

Looking for some advice on how to connect my IPod nano with my second computer while travelling. That's what happened: I have my iTunes library on my computer at home and can sync my IPod nano (6 th generation, replaced onyl recently) with that library. While I was travelling and wanted to use my IPod I received an error message asking me to connect the IPod with iTunes in order to recover/restore (sorry, the message apeared in German, so I do not know the exact wording in English) . As I only had my second computer - a small netbook - with me, I downloaded iTunes and connected the iPod - only to receive the message that this Ipod would sync with another computer (sure!) and would I want to sync it with this iTunes library instead now? (Of course not, I did not dare because that library was empty!). So there I was with my computer with iTunes library at home and an iPod stuck in recovery mode and not doing a thing during my vacation. Any suggestions? If I have to take my great big workstation with me to get the iPod running again, I might just as well leave the iPod immobile at home. (;-)

On your home computer connect your Nano, click on the name in iTunes, move right to the Summary tab then tick the box that says Manually Manage Music. You will now have to er, manually drag your music to your iPod, and manually eject it when done, but you will be able to add music from two different computers.

  • Problems synching with a second computer

    Hi,
I've searched the docs and forums but can find no help for the problem I am having synching my iPod with a second computer.
When I plug it in it recognises it but only calls it "E/:" and does nothing else. The iPod screen just continues to say "Do not disconnect".
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Ric

Thanks for your help folks, but after reviewing that document etc its not quite the same problem. The computer recognises the iPod as a mass storage device but doesn't show it in Windows Explorer. It does, however, show up in iTunes, but only as "E/:" (at home it comes up as "Ric's iPod") and cannot be updated.
It is shown as "Update Manually" but I thought that is what I wanted as I'm trying to sync with a second computer?
What I am trying to achieve is to be able to download the odd podcast or track while at work but more importantly to be able to upload my Nike+ data.
    Thanks again in advance!!

  • Sync AppleTV with a second computer

I set up AppleTV with an iBook and everything worked beautifully. I bought a second laptop, which I'd now like to be the computer that syncs with ATV. Unfortunately, I can only make it stream to ATV at this point. What do I have to do to make my newer laptop the main syncing computer to my ATV? Thanks!

Not sure if I read your question right. But, once you remove the sync from the 1st computer, the TV will take off any content that was synced to it (does this as way to maintain copyright and all that in case you were going to give it to another person, etc).
Then when you tell it to sync to your other computer, the other computer will get the extra tabs for sync options in it's iTunes (not sure if you noticed, but only the one that syncs has options for all that...others on network can just share/stream).
So when you go to your other laptop (new one) you choose what you want to sync and it will all copy back down to the AppleTV. Could very well be all the same stuff if you copied your content all over or if you are using a common share on yoru network. But yes, first the AppleTv will drop all previously synced content, then with new synced computer, it will send back whatever that computer has set to sync.

Hi, I need to install CC on my second computer (Mac Book Pro) but, after download programs, I see that "trial period is finished" and the program asks me a serial number (I have no serial number…)…. how can I do?
On my first computer (IMac) it's all ok.

  • Using iMac display with a second computer

    Hi,
Is it possible to plug in a PC's video output into the iMac and use it as a temporary display? My idea is to use the iMac but be able to switch to my PC without needing 2 monitors on my desk - just the iMac display. Is this possible?

    Ah, cheers for the info.
Do you reckon this could work - http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/remote-desktop/default.mspx
Basically, I just want to use the hardware on my PC for doing 3D modelling in Maya 2008 and 3ds Max (Not supported in Leopard, and the graphics card in my PC is far superior to the one in the iMac), but only have one display on my desk - the iMac, which I'll be using for everything else.

  • IMac display with second computer?

Is anyone driving the 27" iMac display with a second computer?  If so, can you switch between the iMac and the second computer to see what is happening on each machine?

Yes you are.  The two machines I use are mini displayport.  Thunderbolt must hook to Thunderbolt.  I wasn't thinking of the new iMac 27".   Old timers moment.

  • I don't seem to be able to transfer the music on my Ipod classic to a second computer.

I have enabled Homesharing and switched to Manual mode from Automatic. When I try to transfer from the Ipod I get a warning that I will loose the files on the Ipod if I sync the Ipod with my second computer.

  • Mail settings on second computer

I am having big problems with my second computer, since the arrival of iCloud.  My first computer (iMac running OS 10.6.8) has Mobile Me icons for my 4 Email accounts, and they all work OK -- but my MacBook still has the .Mac icons on the settings and I am having many Email problems.  Should the settings and passwords on the second computer be identical to those on the first?

Here are the email settings for iCloud:
iCloud: Configuring Mail with Mac OS X v10.6 or iOS 4
    iCloud: Mail server information
Ideally, you should update your computers to the minimum version of OS X that iCloud supports - OS X 10.7.2 to avoid these setup issues.

  • Sync Aperture and iTunes from second computer?

    Hi All.
i've been reading up on articles related to this and I'm still a little confused.
I am thinking that I'd like to sync my iPhone to my MacBookPro (right now I think? it is synced to the MacPro) so that I can travel with it and backup once in awhile or if I am at the coffee shop.
I have my Aperture database on my MacPro (much bigger hard drive) and I have my iTunes database on my MacPro (again much bigger hard drive).
Is there a way to sync just the music to my MacPro and just the images to the MacPro but have the iPhone synced to my laptop? For instance I only need to sync music once in awhile and ideally I would upload my photos to the MacPro when I get back from a trip or whatever.
Thanks for any help or experience with this.
    - Jon

If you synced your iPad with one computer connecting it and syncing with a second computer will erase its contents.

  • Palm 755P (Sprint) not synchronizing with new Toshiba Satellite L305D operatig Windows Vista.

OK Please help the new guy....
I have a Treo that is a month old. It was previously synchronized with my old computer. My old computer took the dive. I bought a new Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5938t aht is running Windows Vista.
I tried to locate the Palm Desktop via the disk in the Treo box from Sprint. No dice. The Desktop loaded, but I can't synchronize my Treo. There is no available USB connection.
So, I played around with it and tried to get it to connect via bluetooth.... NO DICE.
    Very frustrating.....
Does anyone have any advise at all?
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Anybody out there have a solution?
Has anybody beside me encountered this problem too?
    Please advise.....

Hi.. Welcome to the Palm forums.  My first assumption is your Vista is a 64bit version.  That being the case there are no usb drivers available which is the reason for the problem trying to sync via cable.  You are headed in the right direction as bluetooth is the only way your going to sync.  First the computer has to be bluetooth compatible or you need to purchase a bluetooth dongle and get it installed and then get the two to pair.  From there if you go the the windows hotsync thread here you will find a sticky that explains the process.  Also here is a knowledge base article about how to sync via bluetooth.  http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/nua/launchKB.asp?c=41559

  • Synchronizing with two computers

My computer crashed and having bought a new one,, i loaded the new iTunes 7 software and tried to synchronise with my iPod. The iPod (30 Gb with video) was synchronized with the crashed computer in an earlier version of iTunes and now would not allow me to synchronize with the new computer saying that it already has a connection with another computer. How do i get the tunes on my iPod into the iTunes 7 library onn the new computer??
    Regards

If your iPod is set to update automatically you just need to take care when connecting to your new computer and an empty iTunes. When you get the message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not have caught up with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.

    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
There is a new function in iTunes 7 under File, "Transfer Purchases from iPod" which transfers iTMS purchases. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.
