Synchronzing Outlook contacts crashes OVI-Suite

One of our users has the following problem:
After using the Ovi-Suite without any problems, since a short period of time contacts are not synchronized. Starting the synchronization process ends in an app crash or some contacts are twice in Outlook. With PC Suite everything is fine. Reparing OVI does not help. What is the problem? How can it be solved?

hi, I have exactly the same problem.
I have a N86, and want to synchronise my contacts with Outlook, but the system does not update my contacts in Outlook if the information is in mobile(home) or mobile(business) fields.
But the informaiton for the contacts is visible through Ovi suite.
It seems as if the fields which are not pre-defined in Outlook don't get synchronized with Outlook, and this is causing serious trouble as information is getting lost...
great user of Nokia and nokia only from the time of mobile era started in India. The last phone that i used, which can sync with my outlook through pc suite was N86. But after i switched to N8 and C7, the OVI suite is the only back up mode and this can't be sync with my outlook in windows office. So, what to do ?? Can anyone help.

  • Outlook Express and Ovi Suite syncing problems

    Hi,
I just installed the Ovi Suite for my new N5230 phone.
I tested syncing contacts for the first time from Outlook Express to the phone and my account at Ovi.com via Ovi Suite. All went fine.
However, I undertook a major edit of all my Outlook Express contacts data (thankfully backing it up afterwards on my PC) but when I went to use the sync fucntion in Ovi Suite again I was not given an option of (a) whether to merge or replace or (b) where to start sync from if not a merge. Consequently my phone and Ovi.com contacts lists filled up with duplicates through a botched merge. Where a contact was deleted in Outlook Express no Sync Conflict message appeared to ask me if I wanted to delete the same entry in Ovi.
When I deleted all the contacts in Ovi Suite and tried to sync again my Outlook Express contacts list was deleted! Thankful for the backup before I started this waste of a Sunday afternoon.
So basically, is it the case that if I want to use Ovi Suite and Ovi.com for contacts then I have to use Ovi.com as the master list and not my contacts list in Outlook Express on my PC? If the software simply merges data all the time how the heck am I meant to delete a contact from all three storage areas?
    Any advice appreciated.
    Bill

Well for anyones information. Syncing with ovi suite.
I have successfully got ovi suite working.
For those with problems this is what I did. I have vista.
    1. I uninstalled all programs from nokia.( ovi suite using the online uninstaller. Pc suite using the installed uninstall program.
then i ran pc suite cleaner.
    2. using search for nokia then using advanced search for all nokia folders remaining (important to use advanced search or you will miss some of the folders and files. Then deleted them. Some you may have to change the user permissions to delete them. It is important to delete these as they hold data and i think might be one of the conflicts stopping sync working.
    3. Delete any remaining files except bookmarks pics etc.
now there should be nothing on the pc.
Then download and run ccleaner. Cleaner and registry.
    Reboot pc
    Then download ovi suite.
A wizard might pop up but if not start ovi suite and connect your phone. I turned bluetooth off and used usb.
The phone will download settings. You can select pc suite on the sync settings in the phone. not ovi.com.
the program is good and worth the trouble. It saves your messages and contacts as well as syncing contacts and calendar with your required program, also bookmarks can be saved with firefox and explorer in your phone folder in favourites. It creates the folder. To transfer bookmarks from pc to phone ensure they are in this folder.
This took me a lot of reboots and time with a few calls to nokia and i am still waiting for their callback!!!
It also works fine on my xp computer too.

  • E52- how to import contacts to ovi suit - from csv...

    hi,
for E52 mobile - how to import contacts to ovi suit - from csv , excel files, can  any one please?

I used  the program MyphoneExplorer to back up the ocntacts from my old S-E phone (or perhaps it was S-E's own PC Companion. Anyway, when pasting from that program I got a bunch of vcf files. I dropped and dragged these into Nokia PC-Suite and it workd very well.
To add a little gripe about these "so called2 user friendly PC-suite programs - THEY ARE NOT. Are you listening Nokia?
I want to selectively import and export every single bit and byte from my phone in and out to my PC. I want to modyfy the data and put it back up again into the phone. Why is that supposed to be made so difficult.
Spend less time making the finsishing touches on you icon and color gradient and put in more FUNCTION. Being locked up into one phone brand, just makes you agry - and you always find around the limitations.
Interestingl, try to search your manual for "Import". NOTHING comes up concerning contacts. But synchonizing  sigh - if you have nothing to synchronize - because everything is on the PC - does not do you much good does it?

    @amartyno,
Could you please try the following steps, hopefully that helps:
In fact the problem seems to be a windows 7 registry problem. In the end I found the solution here (on a post related to itunes - but if anyone interested follows the thread they'll see that moving to the latest version of itunes presents exactly the same hang as trying to intall OVI - http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7programs/thread/f4dd5033-9bcb-4788-b100-5e98bd80f...)
If you can't be bothered to follow the link/read the entire post - what you have to do is:
    1) Open regedit and replace the following value:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\
    Key: RegistrySizeLimit
    Type: REG_DWORD
    Value: 0xFFFFFFFF (4294967295)
    2) Reboot

Reconnect the USB cable to your device or connect via Bluetooth. Then try syncing again.

Same problem here... My installation does not even sync contacts, it just crashes after approximately 30-60 seconds of trying to sync. I'm using a Bluetooth connection, haven't really tried with a cable because I move alot with my phone and need it to  be hassle free (which Ovi Suite apparently is not).
I need the sync to work, because my everyday work depends on it, and it is totally unacceptable that the synchronisation does not work. I'm really irritated about this, why does Nokia have to roll out new program versions if the sync works in older version just fine? I've only quickly looked through the Ovi Suite, and it just seems to have a new user interface, and a broken sync functionality - what was the point of updating it anyway?
BTW: I did not find any option to "Automatically synchronise every 15 minutes when phone is connected" in the new Ovi Suite. The old PC Suite did have a drop down menu for selecting either "Off", "15 minutes", "30 minutes", etc. for the auto-sync interval. What's up with this? Or is the option just hidden somewhere within the new "cool" user interface?

It seems that I'm gonna have to try uninstalling Nokia Ovi Suite and Nokia Ovi Suite Software Updater next from "Add/Remove Programs" and reinstalling PC Suite. Just have to check that it is still available from Nokia site... and then save the PC Suite installation file somewhere safe, and worship it as a holy relic to the end of times, and never-ever-ever update anything again after getting PC Suite and synchronisation to work once again...

  • Ovi Suite SMS to Contacts and confusion about numb...

    Hi,
    I'm really confused here...
I have a E72 which I sync with a exchange server (Contacts, calendar and mail).
The sync part seems to work fine.
However, I would also like to sync Notes and have the ability to SMS from my computer. That's where I thought Ovi Suite came into the picture but I'm having some problems:
When sending SMS from Ovi Suite: I enter name of the contact the name appears with a preview of the phone number in the format "070-783XXXX", when I try to send it says invalid format so I need to enter the number manually in the format "070783XXXX" to be able to send the SMS
When I update a contact in Outlook, the contact is updated in phone, but not in Ovi Suite
When I use outlook number formats (specifying country, area code etc) the number appears as "+46 (070) 783XXXX", but then number recognition doesn't seem to work on incoming calls.
What I want to accomplish and wonder if it is at all possible is:
Manage my contacts, calendar and mail in Outlook. Sync through MfE
Reach my contacts from Ovi Suite to be able to send SMS to them
Use Ovi Suite to manage Map files, Music, and other phone files.
Use Ovi Suite to Sync Notes from Outlook.
I'm I on the right track here? Any suggestions for a better way of managing contacts and having the functionality I've described?

  • Syncing Nokia X-6 via Ovi Suite [2.x], to Outlook,...

    Salutations,
I'm new here, so I hope that I'm in good section. I have following problem. My mum has nokia X-6 and I bought her Nokia Lumia 800 and Samsung Omnia 7. When I want to move my Nokia X-6 contacts to Nokia Lumia 800, or Samsung Omnia 7 I get following errors:
    • I tried to export contacts to CSV via phone [X6], when imported I got contacts where 80% lack phone numbers
    • I tried to export contacts via PC Suite [X6], when imported to Outlook, Windows Contacts or Gmail, I got contacts where 80% lack phone numbers
    • I tried to export contacts via Nokia Ovi Suite [X6], when imported to Outlook, Windows Contacts or Gmail, I got contacts where 80% lack phone numbers
I tried to import contacts through Ovi suite directly, export to all forms of CSVs, and all syntaxes, I never succeeded.
Do You have any clue, how I might import nokia X6 contacts to Nokia Lumia 800 and Samsung Omnia 7?
    Thank You for any reply,

    Hi Lexicanum,
Do you see all your contacts on CSV file when you export them?
If all the contacts are exported correctly to the CSV file, then it is upto the 3rd party software, how it treats the generated CSV file (It could be that the generated CSV file is not read correctly by the 3rd party software).
If not all the contacts are exported to CSV file by using Nokia Suite, then you can submit the error report using this link http://tiny.cc/ja40z
    Thanks,

  • N8 and OVI suite no sync with Outlook 2010 calenda...

Hi I have been trying to sync my calendar with my work computer now for two weeks since purchasing the N8.
It is running Windows 7 enterprise (32 bit) and MS Outlook 2010.
OVI suite ( version 3.1.0.91) recognizes the N8 OK, but I cannot sync Calendar and notes. I keep seeing the message that Outlook is not installed on the computer.
I have tried many of the suggestions from this forum without success. I have even installed PC Suite 7.1.30.9 which also recognizes the N8 and even allows the manual sync operation to be initiated, but no data (appointments) are transferred in either direction.
    Please can someone help me?
I know it can be made to work as my home computer which runs a home version of Windows 7 (64 bit) and Outlook 2010 seems to sync correctly. I cannot work out what the difference is.
I have already tried PC Suite cleaner and several reinstalls. My excellent old E66 phone can still sync quite successfully on both computers

    Me too:

    3. OVI 3.1.1.85

When I try synchronize calendar & tasks, OVI tell me that I need Windows Calendar or Microsoft Outlook. But I have Outlook.

  • Ovi suite 2.2.1.13 xp sp3 - stupid installer crash...

    installer crash (solved):
my downloads directory is a windows junction point mounting a partition. launching Nokia_Ovi_Suite_webinstaller_ALL.exe causes visual c++ runtime error before showing any dialog window. crash happens after de-UPXing and presumably unpacking the installer archive in the background.
this stupidity is solved by moving the installer into a non-junction directory on your filesystem and launching from there. this **bleep** cost me hours.
    startup crash:
ovi suite crashes immediately after launch, half-drawn startup window frame showing, contents all black.
looking at what happened with the installer, i should note my C:\Program Files directory is a partition mount point. this unfortunately is not possible to test on a filesystem directory, since Ovi Suite installer famously doesn't provide options to change installation directory. using Nokia_Ovi_Suite_webinstaller_ALL.exe /target=c:\OviSuite didn't do anything meaningful.
if there's anyone that can do something about this, let me know what other information is needed to debug etc.
side note: ovi player also crashes on launch.

    solved this one too.
this crash also turned out to be caused by Ovi Suite not being able to run from a volume mounted directory.
looks like QT installer framework is used, which seems to be case-sensitive. using /TARGET= instead of /target= made Ovi Suite install itself to C:\Nokia and start up successfully.
overall a sucky sucky experience, right on top of the already existing steaming pile, as gathered by reading other threads in this forum.

  • OVI Suite messes up contact when syncing my N8. Wh...

Tried this to confirm these problems:
    1) Deleted all contacts in OVI Suite and on the phone.
    2) Restored the contacts from OVI sync to be sure they are OK
    3) Checked that standard values are set for phone, sms and e-mail
    4) Synced with OVI suite, no contacts updated on phone, all updated in OVI Sync
    5) Did another sync with OVI Suite straight at once.
Now these annoying problems has occured on the phone (and in OVI suite):
    a) Standard settings have been lost for all other than phone. This is annoying becuase the phone will now ask when sending SMS if you want to use the phone number or the e-mail address :-(
    b) Most of the contact have a "Note" added with the text "<< unnamed >>". This is annoying because this not is displayed next to the contacts picture instead of the name or address :-(
So WHY is OVI Suite removing the standard settings for messages?
And WHY is OCI Suite adding the "<< unnamed >>" note for most (but not all) contacts?
(tried to find some logic, but can't find any thing common about the contacts changed)
    Lars-Erik Østerud - http://www.osterud.name/nokia.html

For me even the regular sync gives lot of problems. I can't find the simplest setting of "One way Sync, i.e. only from Mobile to Ovi Suite". And that's what has been creating a problem for me.
Whenever I sync my contacts with Ovi using Ovi Suite many of my updates (which I'd made on the phone since last Sync) are lost.
    This is quite irritating!
@Nokia: Please suggest any solution for this issue.

  • Sync problem in OVI Suite 3.0.0.284

Working with nokia 2630 for a long time and since a few weeks with ovi suite 3.0.0.284.
Also work with Outlook 2003. Ovi suite syncs my appointments en contacts between Outlook and 2630. This works fine, until this morning.
The problem is a winter / summer time problem, imo.
    Description:
I've made an appointment in Outlook.
    Startdate 29-01-2011 from 9.00 - 12.00, every 5 weeks with an enddate on 18-06-2011.
Then an OVI sync started, which ends as usual in a correct way.
What shows the result on the 2630:
    date 29-01-2011, 9.00 - 12.00
    date 05-03-2011, 9.00 - 12.00
    date 09-04-2011, 8.00 - 11.00
    date 14-05-2011, 8.00 - 11.00
    date 18-06-2011, 8.00 - 11.00
The last 3 apoointments need to be manual corrected to 9.00 - 12.00.
When summertime starts only systemtime is updates and not the appointment times.
I hope I made myself clear enough to let you solve this application failure.
    Kind regards
