SYNCING! 2 ipods - 1 computer!

Hi,
Just wondering how I sync two ipods on 1 computer !?
I have a 2g silver 2ng gen ipod nano but recently bought a Ipod nano 3rd generation 8g, to update.
I am giving my 2nd gen ipod to my brother and I will use my new 3rd gen one. How do I go about syncing my old ipod files to my new ipod and how do I go about using both ipods on my one computer?
Thanks in advance!

I have just purchased a new Mac and want to sync my ipod - previous computer was PC - can I recover tunes from the ipod to the Mac?

    1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPod but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPod with it.
above covers purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.

  • Want to sync FROM ipod TO computer w/CD loaded music

This is a strange one. I have what I believe is a first or second generation ipod nano. The ipod and the computer were working wonderfully. We loaded lots of music via CD into the computer and synced w/ the ipod. Then I had to give the computer back to my mother-in-law, so before I gave it to her I wiped out the itunes library on the computer.
NOW, we have the computer back so we can load more music onto the ipod. I simply want to load the music from the ipod TO the itunes library on the computer -- but it won't let me. Is there any way to do this without having to wipe out all the music that is on the ipod and reload manually into the computer, then sync to the ipod??
PLEASE HELP!! The computer in question is a Dell laptop.
    Thanks.

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • Syncing between iPod and computer messed up!

My dad was trying to sync an album onto his nano, but when the songs are imported they come out shuffled in alphabetical order. How can he fix this?

As long as you sync before you start to listen then the iPod and iTunes will always start playback from the same point.

  • Sync from iPod to computer

    Hi,
I'd like to know how to transfer the content from an iPod (music, photos, etc) to a brand new computer with a iTunes installed.
I've used the 'consolidate library' but just some music files were copied...
I've followed the orientation to copy photos but when I open the folder I just find some ithmb files and a photo database file.
I didn't get with 'using iPod nano as an external disk' instructions.
    I'd appreciate some help
    Thanks
    Mauricio (Brazil)

"I'd like to know how to transfer the content from an iPod (music, photos, etc) to a brand new computer with a iTunes installed."
This isn't as straightforward as you may imagine since Apple didn't provide a way to do this using iTunes.
Try an Application such as Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.

  • I had to format my HD, now iTunes says my iPOD is sync'd with another computer.  How do I get my iPOD's music back in to the library and sync it with the computer again?

I had to format my computers hard drive.  Now the iTunes thinks my iPOD is sync'd with another computer.  How do I get re-sync the iPOD and computer and get my songs on the iPOD back in to the iTunes library.  Thanks!

Can't tell you exactly, as it can be used to facilitate piracy and Apple blocks this sort of thing from occuring (except for itunes purchased music)
But you can find out what your looking for at iLounge, i'd suggest that method for "mixed" music from different sources, that way you get it all back.
Next time, hit the iTunes menu and backup your library to disks, only takes a few minutes and a few DVD-R's.
    Good Luck

  • Reformatted my computer...trying to sync my iPod Nano to recreate my library. pop-up window says I cannot sync bc I already have a library (empty on reformatted computer)..help!

reformatted my computer (original iTunes library gone)...tried to sync with existing iPod Nano...iTunes won't let me sync from iPod to computer & says my ipod is already synced to a library

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one computer/iTunes library at a time.  Reformatting your PC causes your iPod to think it is being synced to another iTunes library.
If all the content that is on your Nano is still in your iTunes library, then go ahead and restore the iPod. This will allow you to connect the Nano with the new iTunes library and sync it just as before.
Otherwise, if the content is not in your iTunes library and only on your Nano, see this older post from another forum memory Zevoneer covering a few methods and applications that can assist you with this task.

  • When syncing my iPod photo it transfers 2 songs then gives error message ' cannot read/write disk' what wrong?

Can someone tell me whats going wrong when I manually sync my iPod with computer only 2 songs transfer to my iPod then I get error message ' unable to read/write disk ' the 2 songs are transferred to iPod and I have to keep starting the process over again, what can I do?

First, try shutting down (powering off) your computer and resetting the iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
Start up the computer, and connect the iPod to a direct USB port on the computer, if you have been using a USB hub.  If there are other USB devices (other than standard keyboard/mouse) connected, you may want to disconnect them, as a test.
If that does not help, or you already did that, it is possible that the iPod's hard drive has become faulty.  It is also possible that the hard drive is OK, but there is data corruption that is making the iPod's storage unreliable.
If the problem is not resolved, you should probably do a Restore on the iPod in iTunes.  The Restore button is on the iPod's Summary screen in iTunes.  This will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.  If the cause is data corruption, the Restore (erasing the storage) should fix the problem.  However, if the cause is a hardware fault on the hard drive, it will not help; the Restore may not complete successfully, which will leave your iPod inoperable.

  • Help! syncing multiple ipods on same computer!

i will soon have two different ipods syncing to the same computer. how can i keep libraries separate so that my brother's music doesn't show up on my ipod and my music doesn't get synced to his?
    iPod Video 30GB   Windows XP

There are basically two methods for managing multiple iPods on one computer. See here:
Method 1 - Create different Windows users accounts for each iPod on this computer.
Method 2 - Create a playlist in iTunes for each iPod.
To make Method 2 work, connect one of your iPods, and click on it in the left-source panel.
Under the "Music" tab, and set your option for a specific playlist(s) under the "Sync Music" option.
Do the same with your other iPod; not connected at the same time as the other one, though.
For more details on this matter, check out Apple's Support article about it:

    I hope that helps you.
