Syncing 2 referenced libraries ?

Hi guys,
I would appreciate some advice on how to keep 2 independent referenced libraries in sync with each other. My setup is as follows -
1 iMac in my office with my entire photo library referenced from the iMac HD.
1 portable hard disk with its own referenced photo library. The library sits on the portable HD, the referenced photo structure is synchronized with the iMac using Deltawalker or Chronosync.
1 Macbook Pro with a library referencing the masters on the portable HD.
I do most of my work on the iMac, including ingesting and editing. I would also like the flexibility to use my MBP the same way when at home or on the road. Keeping whatever photos I ingest or delete in sync is not a problem, Chronosync does it for me.
I would like to know how to also keep my libraries in sync, but point to the correct referenced images.
For example,
I tweak 100 images on my iMac. I would like to import those changes to my portable library, but have them point to the masters on the portable HD.
Is there any way of doing this efficiently?
Thanks in advance,
Viren
PS - I would like to keep my masters referenced for easy syncability, and to use other raw converters.

PS - I am aware of the 'Locate Referenced Masters' and Reconnect All option. It takes too long to do so, unlike Lightroom.

  • Syncing to aperture libraries

I have my MacBook Pro with about 4k photos and an iMac with another 2k photos. There are some that are the same, but many that are not. I don't have many adjustments to my photos.
I want to have the iMac as the primary Mac where I store and use Aperture. To clarify I want to get all the photos off of the laptop and on the iMac. So I am trying to find a way to sync the two libraries. I have not found any good solutions so far, even after many hours on google.
Has anyone run into this problem? Do you have any solutions or suggestions? I would like to hear.
    TIA

As you have discovered, Synchronize! Pro X works very well to do just what you said. It will sync any files or folders on different computers and I have been using an old version (3.4, I've never updated it as the company's update policy is not very end user friendly) to sync my documents between desktop and laptop. My current configuration is a MacBook Pro (2.4GHz) and a G5 desktop (dual 2.7GHz) -- I put the MacBook Pro into target mode and connect to the PowerMac via a firewire 800 cable. In addition to syncing my documents I also sync my Aperture library to keep them exactly the same on both computers. It works very well and means that I can actually back up to my vaults and link to referenced files (on removable disks) from either computer. It takes a little discipline to remember what I did last so that I don't change both the libraries between syncs, but I've got used to that and it doesn't generally cause me any problems. I use the PowerMac as my main Aperture computer and take the MacBook Pro travelling. Synchronize! Pro X seems to treat the Aperture library as a folder and only syncs the changed contents rather than the whole 25GB. This means that syncing rarely means copying more than a GB or so.

  • Adobe Bridge 4 vs Iphoto 09 using referenced libraries

I've always used iphoto with referenced libraries, usually with no problem with an external HD with my imac. The reason: I don't want to consume my HD with hundreds of photos and video files and large photoshop files. Here's what I would like to do. I recently purchased Apple's new time capsule, and would like to do the following, store all these media files on the time capsule, with iphoto's library on my imac's HD and referencing those media files on the time capsule, wirelessly. My question is, would adobe bridge be a better way to view and track these media files rather than using iphoto? Any insight with either programs would be appreciated.
I do like using iphoto for creating web galleries with mobileme, and the occasional phonebook. In those instances, I usually copy over the files to my hd and copy them into iphoto so there are no corruption issues.
Oh, and the other reason to storing these files on the time capsule is so that my husband's pc laptop and my mac laptop (powerpc G5) would have access to these files too.

    1. You know that's not a supported use for a Time Capsule, right? And folks who have tried storing items other than Back Ups on there have had permissions issues etc.
    2. Running a Referenced Library is fraught with problems +should anything go wrong+. This is particularly the case where the Library and the files are stored on different volumes. If the path changes in any way you will need to resolve each alias individually. There is no need to have all the photos referenced if you want to store them on an external drive. You can easily run a Managed library from an external disk.
    3. I'm not sure what, if anythign, Bridge would bring to the set up. It's a file browser and not a Photo Organiser. You might want to post on an Adobe forum for more on Bridge. The one thing I will tell you is that the "file management" capabilities of Bridge make it lethal to photos also managed by iPhoto.

  • Sync multiple iTunes libraries on one ATV

Is it possible to sync the itunes libraries from my two macs onto one appleTV? The libraries are unique.
When I try to switch source to sync....ATV says I will replace the contents from the previous sync with the contents of the other mac.

I don't have an ATV yet (should be arriving any day now), so I can't test this, but at the very least you should be able to stream from two different iTunes libraries on the same computer. This article mentions doing it:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305287
Apparently when there are multiple logins with multiple instances of iTunes running on the same machine, they use additional TCP ports that would normally get blocked by the firewall, if it's turned on. Maybe you've got the firewall turned on, and it's smart enough to open a hole for the standard iTunes port (3689) but not the extra holes for additional users (49152 and above).

  • Sync multiple iTunes libraries with iPod?

How do I sync several iTunes libraries (selectable by holding down ALT while starting iTunes) with my iPod Touch (4th generation)?
With limited hard drive space on my Powerbook I've chosen to create an iTunes library which more or less just contains podcasts and internet radio stations etc. and use an external drive for another library which contains all my music.
I was hoping I could switch between the different libraries and have my iPod sync to both of them, but alas I get a message when switching over to the "music" library that my iPod "belongs to" another library and that if I choose to use the current one everything will be erased and overwritten.
So how do I prevent this from happening while allowing me to add music from the second library?

I'm not sure if I've got it right but I've played around a bit after reading the above and come to the conclusion that I first need to check (turn on) the "Manually manage music and videos" (and most likely "Open Itunes when this iPod is connected") options in iTunes when I click on my iPod icon on the left column.
But much to my surprise I can still have iTunes automatically (or so it seems) sync my podcasts which makes things a whole lot easier than doing that manually for each podcast update!
For everything else (music, videos, PDF files/books/audiobooks, iTunes U, Ringtones etc.) I will need to manually drag and drop over to the iPod. To make things easier I created a playlist folder named "Manually transfer to iPod" with various playlists inside (just to make it easier to see what my iPod contains from that particular library and to organize things neatly).
And instead of dragging the items from each playlist over to the iPod I simply select the folder, then drag all the items on the right hand side (contents) over to the iPod.
I haven't tried switching libraries yet, but I assume I'll be able to add media from there as well without any problems.
    Was this what you meant?

  • Problem with referenced libraries (after flash 5.5 trial install/uninstall)

I've been using flash builder 4 & flash cs5 with on problems.
I unstalled flash 5.5 trial version to have a play around, then uninstalled it. I also changed the flex sdk version flash builder was using so I could export and test stageVideo.
Now when making Flash Professional Project in flash builder ( and selectiong and selecting the main fla), the referenced libraries are not imported to the project, and all old predicts ( which have referenced librares and used to work) are looking for swc's held in the 'Adobe Flash CS5.5' folder, and so none of the code hinting is working.
    Help please

    Hi MoTor,
You would need to uninstall existing Flash Builder 4.5 on your machine and then install Flash Builder 4.6 in trial mode.
During installation, it doesn't accept the serial number of Master Collection. So, just install it in trial mode and make sure that the you select the same language as that of your Master Collection, during FB installation.
Now launch FB and it would then accept Master Collection CS 5.5 serial number.

    Hope this helps.

  • WPF+MAF - addin referenced libraries are not loaded?

Hi! I'm new to Add-in framework. Now I'm trying to create WPF addin that returns UserControl (according to https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb909849(v=vs.110).aspx).
The problem is that when I try to get user control from addin, Exceptions are thrown:
    1. The first exception was "Cannot find resource named '<name>'. Resource names are case sensitive.". All the resources are stored in separate library and it worked fine when I did the same with MEF (before MAF)
    2. OK, I've removed all StaticResources and then I got another exception: "{"Could not load file or assembly 'Infralution.Localization.Wpf, PublicKeyToken=547ccae517a004b5' or one of its dependencies."}". This lib is used for localization.
Note: all needed libraries are in the same folder as the addin is
Are addin referenced libraries not loaded? Or where was I mistaken?

Yes, I had downloaded it (before writing my application) and tried to start it, but it does not work. Today I've tried it again and it still does not work.
    1. VS says there are no System.Xaml references at all projects (fixed)
    2. NullReferenceException is thrown at StackChanged event invokation - added check for null (fixed)
Now, when the solution is built, there are 6 warnings at AddInStore.Rebuild(path). The first says: "While examining an assembly for pipeline segments, got a TypeLoaderException" and there is
no the exception per se. (I could attach image, but it will be useless, because I have VS Express and not english ui language). So, 0 addins are found.
    Hi Maleev,

  • Syncing two iphoto libraries on two different macs

    Hey
Can't seem to find an answer to this one so here goes. I am trying to sync my iphoto libraries that I have on two different macs of mine. One a mac pro and one a macbook. Both are running 10.5.7 and iphoto 8 with all the updates. I have sharing on enabled on both macs and in iphoto. I can do a manual drag and drop but I have 1000's of photos and that would take way to long to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated
    Thanks

Use iPhoto Library Manager to move Events/Albums/Pics plus associated metadata between Libraries.

    - If the Gmail accounts are IMAP one then if the library is erased and then you use the account old email will be redownload
    - Easing the library on the MacBook does not effect what is on the iMac. On the other hand if you deleted the messages in the Mail app on the MacBook then they will deleted from all devices.

larger drive and would like to transfer my

this without a opening a can of worms?
It should be straightforward. You can get Aperture to move all your files for you by ctrl+clickling on each project and selecting 'Relocate masters for project'.
Alternatively, you could manually copy the master files from your existing disk to the new disk and then use the Referenced File Manager to tell it where they are.
I recommend the first, and also recommend that before you begin, you make a backup either by using the vault, or by copying your entire Aperture library (in the Pictures folder). If you have a backup, you can go about the whole process with no fear.

  • Can sync two iPhoto libraries? (via.mac?)

My wife and I both use macs. We both take digital photos and so each have iPhoto libraries - both of which are inevitably incomplete. But what would be really handy is to have one 'shared' iPhoto library.
Can users on two machines somehow sync or share iPhoto libraries - either through wifi sync or via .mac ?
    Thanks

    RossM:
At the present there is not way to sync iPhoto 7 libraries. Any sync application can sync the image files but the database file, Library6.iPhoto, that contains all of the organization information, events, slideshows, keywords, comments, etc. has to be the same as far as content. Syncing apps cannot sync content of files. Until iPhoto Library Manager gets updated to be compatible with iPhoto 7, the only way is to export and import manually. At least the exported file will contain the keywords, title, comments and changed date (if the date was changed).
So keep new photos in their own events so that when it comes time to export and import it's easy to know which are the new ones.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Can't Sync with Multiple Libraries

My wife gave me an 8 GB iPod Nano for my birthday (I think they really mean 8 gB, but that's not really a big deal). It's got a nice slick aluminum (I think) case and a pretty LCD screen.
I had been resisting getting myself an iPod for a while now because Apple usually screws things up, but she chose it.
Not that I have it, I have decided that I was right. Apple completely screwed this thing up. My wife put a few songs from her laptop on the iPod and then I thought, great. I'll just add some from my laptop. I downloaded the new version of iTunes, but it told me that I couldn't add songs from my library without deleting the songs already on the iPod.
Now, I'm not a moron. I know that there's no technical reason for this reason for this. It's a freakin' piece of flash memory with a usb port and some dsp circuits. And it's one of the most expensive one's on the market. So why doesn't it work correctly?
This gd thing cost my wife $275 and IT DOESN"T WORK!!!! I'd take the POS back except that she already got my name engraved on it (not to mention that it might hurt her feelings).
Can someone please explain why Mac is trying to screw its customers over and why its customers put up with this BS?
I realize that there are probably hacks to get my iPod to sync with multiple libraries, but for $275, it ought to work right out of the box.

Okay. Okay. So I found the option to manually sync my iPod. I still think that it kind of ***** that the iPod doesn't store the files with their real names but instead uses those funny four letter names.

I have an iPad 1 to which I synced my photo libraries from my laptop. Unfortunately that laptop got stolen. I now have an iPad 2 as well with a new laptop. How do I get my photo libraries from my iPad 1 to my iPad 2 and to my new laptop...?

I assume that you haven't got a backup copy of them (?). You can copy photos that were originally synced from a computer off the iPad via third-party apps such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network - you can then sync them to your other iPad. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

  • Disappearing referenced libraries from NWDS

I have installed NWDS 7.1 SP11 and I referenced SAP system library (Variable SAP_SYSTEM_ADD_LIBS) in my project's build path... whenever I close and re-open the IDE, the referenced libraries are gone from package explorer and I get compilation error.
SAP_SYSTEM_ADD_LIBS remains on Libraries tab of my build path though.. I have to perform the Add Variable step again to reference the libraries... Am I missing something?
