Syncing 20G clickwheel problem

Hi my wifes 20G click wheel will be recognized by windows and itunes 7, but no songs or library show up! she can't add songs or manage the ones on the ipod...tried the workaround by changing drive letter in windows without success. can't restore as it will erase all the music which is only on the ipod...not enough room on previous computer for full sync so managing songs manually...
Please help! Has Apple screwed up itunes? are they trying to force us to buy new one's? if so I'll switch to a zune!

thanks, ill try this up... anyways got a new problem i have tried opening my itunes but it said cant open because of error(-50)..any idea what does this mean and any solution to this...is it ok to unistall my itunes ( i have the new version 7.6) and install the old one, i mean the 7.4.1 version? whew thanks...this thing is making me crazy...

The syncs were fine until recently and now I cant sync and get an error message that says "outlook sync client encountered problem" What could possibly have happened....I read some posts that say to go back to iTunes 7.3 etc....this has to be a common problem....any suggestions.

  • Syncing and Charging Problem with 1st gen iPod nano

I purchased a 1st generation iPod nano via eBay about 3 months ago and have developed an interesting syncing and charging problem.  When I plug the nano to my iMac, frequently neither the computer nor iTunes will recognize it.  I have done "the five R's" with occasional success.  I've tried jiggling the cable in the computer port and sometimes it works in getting iTunes to recognize the nano, sometimes it doesn't.  Even when I am able to get iTunes to recognize the nano, I have frequently found that the nano hasn't charged up at all.  In fact, a couple of times I found it almost totally drained of power after having been connected to my computer.  Yes, I have the most recent version of iTunes installed on my iMac and my iMac, by the way, is relatively new - having been purchased in May of this year.  What is interesting is that I've taken my nano to work and it has absolutely no problem charging up on my Dell (yuk!).  For the record, I do not have iTunes installed on my work computer and I am not allowed to add any apps to my work computer without the consent of my supervisor.  The chances of getting iTunes installed on my Dell at work are pretty much nil.  Any suggestions on how I can fix the problem?

I bought a new USB dock connector and hoped, with fingers and toes crossed, that something positive would happen.  Sure enough, I was able to sync and recharge my old iPod nano.  I guess the original USB dock cable is on its last legs.  Not totally broken, but no longer reliable.  I consider my problem solved!    My thanks to everyone who took the time to read and try to solve my iPod problem.  I greatly appreciate it!

  • Ipon nano 3rd generation red. Sync and storage problems.

I have just got the new iPod nano (product red) 8 GB capacity. When i started to sync with my Intel Macbook i got suprised with a sync and storage problem. It starts syncing and suddendly it stops and lock the iPod and the Itunes. The must surprising is that happens every time the storage capacity reaches about 300 mb of music. Does anybody got this kinf of problem?
I have tried all the solutions I have found: formatting the iPod, connecting on a PC, restoring the factory settings and nothing works.

You'll want to copy what is currently on the Nano to your iTunes library on the laptop.  Your iPod can only be synced with one iTunes library at a time. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • Iphone 3g usb sync and charging problem

After resetting 5 authorization process, i could not charge my phone again from computer via usb.
In addition, it has't sync iTunes program any more.
For this reason, I restored the factory settings.
But because of the sync has not taken place, phone did not open.
    Now what should i do?

did you sync before this? if you sync before this problem then restore to the factory setting and put back the backup after few days.then after backup try to delete some app that you seldom use. maybe this will work

  • U2 iPod Clickwheel Problems

The clickwheel on my iPod has died! All of the other buttons work, but i can't scroll up or down. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remedy the problem, or will i have to pay much money to Apple to sort the thing out. I have tried all of the usual remedies! Did i mention the problem started 3 days after the warranty ran out.......typical!

You're a bit stuck with your old one because if you try to restore it (which would be an obvious step), you'll lose all the data on it. And you're correct in thinking that if you send it for service you'll also lose the data.
However, you could try to put the songs from your iPod back into iTunes using the instructions/suggestions here before you replace or send your iPod in.
    Check out the instructions/suggestions here.
    Music from iPod to computer.
There's also another method. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), there's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Now you see why it's important to have a back up. : )

  • Outlook Sync - Multiple Calendar Problem

(I am not sure whether this belongs in this Forum or would be more appropriately directed to my Device (Curve 8900) forum or Desktop Software.  Please advise or re-direct if that is the case.)
I am having a sync issue with Outlook, and it revolves around the issue of having multiple calendars on the Device, each of which is associated with an e-mail address.  I understand this has been a relatively common question; however, although I admittedly may be looking in the wrong place, I have yet to come across a comprehensive solution.
I understand how to switch the "default" e-mail associated with scheduling items on the calendar, and I believe I'm correct in thinking that this is what syncs with Outlook.  I've noticed that when I try switching the default, Outlook wants to delete all other appointments which are NOT associated with that device calendar.
So I guess my specific questions are:
    1) Is there a way to have Outlook sync with ALL calendars on the device, i.e. not just the default?  It's easy enough to make all appointments from here on out with a single account & have that be the one that syncs; however, it doesn't seem possible to do that without having Outlook want to delete all other appointments.
    2) Is there a way to change the associated email/calendar for events on the Device?  When I open an event, I can see which email/calendar it is but I don't know how to *change* it -- I only seem to have a choice when scheduling new events.
If either of these was an option, I think that would solve my problem -- I could either go through the device & convert everything to the default email/calendar & everything would be there upon sync, OR Outlook would just pick up everything from all calendars when I sync.
I don't understand why it's so complicated to have everything in one place!
Thanks in advance to those willing to share their wisdom & advice in this matter.

  • IPhone 4 has to be restored every time I want to sync + Other ridiculous problems

    Hey,
I am on a Windows 7 (64x Ultimate edition) machine, and I own an iPhone 4 16gb, and pretty much 75% of the time I plug my iPhone in to sync it, it will get to syncing the files (whatever they may be, regardless if there are any new updates or nothing at all) and then it will say:
The iPhone cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified.
After this, i must restore my iPhone. From here, I then click on the latest backup and click restore. This is where it gets stupidly ridiculous.
The progress bar for the restoration won't move unless I click and drag the little restore box around my screen. It's as if the computer doesn't realise it's meant to be doing anything unless i'm physically dragging and dropping the window all over my screen. What the computer estimates to take about 3 minutes (I have never had it work propperly so i don't know how long it usually takes) will take me about 20 minutes of me dragging and dropping.
THIS IS THE MOST ANNOYING THING I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED.
Once it is finished, it will disconnect for 10 seconds, reconnect and be fine. then i can backup the phone and sync etc. Sometimes when i connect to the computer it is fine and backs up and syncs fine, but the majority of the time it screws up (always in the same way) and i have to go through the process again.
If anyone could PLEASE shed any light on how i can fix this, it would be unbelievably appreciated, i've dealt with this problem for about 8 months hoping with each iTunes update that it would be fixed but alas it has not.
    Other info regarding iTunes:
I have two internal harddrives, C: and D:.
D: was my original harddrive (320gb so when i upgraded computers i moved it into my new one as a slave to a 1tb harddrive. I still keep all my iTunes stuff on my D: drive and have iTunes installed on C:.
My music on my phone is manually managed so no, it doesn't sync music when it plugs in; it only syncs new apps (+updates) and new photos.
If you require any additional system information then i am willing to post.

It's not a matter of me assuming to restore it, once the error comes up, the only next step I can do is to restore it. I can't access any of the iphones settings in itunes or anything, it's a mandatory restore. If I just cancel the sync (before restoring) and disconnect the phone, all my apps crash on opening: aka unusable phone. So I have literally no choice but to restore every time the error shows up if I want my phone to work.
I have no idea where I may have duplicate files as it doesn't tell me, so if that is the problem (which I don't think it is) then I don't know where I have to go to delete the duplicates.
And the duplicate file error still doesn't explain why leaving iTunes to restore the phone doesn't work and me having to drag the window around. I know it sounds utterly ridiculous, my friend didn't believe me when I told him either but then I showed him and he was as confused as I am. If I just leave the restore to do its own thing at it's own pace, it will loa maybe 20% then fail for whatever reason.

  • Software upgrade, sync and performance problems.

When upgrading to the new iPhone software 4.0. on my iPhone 3G all my pictures captured on my iPhone during the last year has disappeared.
No backup is available in iTunes and the previous upgrades did NOT delete any content in the iPhone. Why did this change and how do I get the pictures back??
The phone is also gradually getting slow - opening a text message takes 5-8 sec this is also not acceptable.
I am a big Apple fan and has been very happy the last 6 years but the iPhone is currently not a product I would recommend to anyone. I also don't recommend SW upgrading since performance keeps going down with the introduction of fancy new features.
    Any help/suggestions is appreciated, thanks

Not sure why the photos in the Camera Roll are not included with your iPhone's backup, which has nothing to do with installing the firmware update. This means something was wrong with the backup for your iPhone. I didn't lose any data on my 3G when installing 4.0, but I always import the photos in the Camera Roll especially before installing a firmware update.
Although photos in the Camera Roll are included with the iPhone's backup or should be, so is a significant amount of other data. Photos in the Camera Roll should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. Not a good idea to depend on your iPhone's backup and your iPhone alone for this data which can be lost or stolen. I've always imported photos from every digital camera I've used and the same with my iPhone's digital camera, which should be treated the same as any other digital camera for a number of reasons.
Contacts are also included with your iPhone's backup or should be, but contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book application on your computer and should be available on your computer with or without an iPhone or with or without any cell phone. I've helped countless people here who manually enter all contacts on their cell phone and depend on their cell phone alone for this important data, which can be lost or stolen.
Problems like this certainly did exist a few years back. Hardware can fail, data transfer can fail or get corrupted, and user error or not taking precaution when important data is involved. There are many more people here that don't maintain a backup for any important data on their computer's hard drive than do.
Losing important data is painful, but painful lessons are usually learned the best. Things can and do go wrong. For future reference, import the photos in the Camera Roll ASAP, and especially before installing a major firmware update when the transfer of an existing backup is involved.

  • Outlook calendar sync 2.1 problem

I updated to 2.1 and iTunes 8.0 over the weekend and now cannot sync calendar events from Outlook with my iPhone and vice versa. I never had this problem before I did the updates but I cannot go back now, any help?

I am using Office 2007 with Win XP Pro, SP3. I've had no issues with calendar or contact sync. Is one working and not the other? Have you tried to reset the sync history in iTunes? You might also try to click replace the information on your iPhone for the one sync and see what happens. I'm running 2.1 on a 1st Gen phone and have only had one small issue with sync, and resetting the sync history fixed it. I think it might have had to do with the fact I had just created a contact before I upgraded. See if that helps.

  • 8gb Ipod Touch does not sync, many other problems

Hello - If anyone has advice i would greatly appreciate it -
Here's the deal. I was given an 8gb ipod touch for christmas last year. The device worked for for several months, one day however it got stuck in a loop where error (9) kept coming up saying that I needed to restore my ipod to the factory settings. I did this and when it finished verifying the installation process it would give me the same error. I took the ipod into the apple store and they tested it on their computer and it worked fine on that, however the took it anyway and gave me a free new one which came a couple days later.
Since I have had the new one i have still had the same problems. I successfully was able to get my applications onto the ipod touch however when i tried to sync the music the ipod would freeze. When I checked the available space on the ipod it said that only 1.2gb remained eventhough there were no songs on the ipod at all. I tried to uninstall and reinstall itunes many times, i do receive an error message a lot on my computer saying that bonjour service is having issues and can not be accessed, but there is nothing that I do on my computer to cause this problem. My itunes again, with the new ipod touch, is asking me to restore the ipod to the factory settings again. Anyone have any idea what is going on or how it can be fixed?
    Thanks

When it tells you new hardware is found, do you have the option to search the Internet instead of a CD?
Be sure you turn off all antivirus, zone alarm, firewall etc. Go into Control Panel and check the Security settings as well as the task bar in the lower right corner. Make sure all those are disabled. Then try again.
If still no luck, or you seem to be having USB problems, verify your USB is being recognized by XP by following these steps:
    1. From the Start menu, right-click the My Computer/Computer icon and choose Properties from the shortcut menu. The System Properties window opens.
    2. Windows XP and Windows 2000: Click the Hardware tab.
Windows Vista: Click Device Manager. If Windows needs your permission to continue, click Continue.
    3. In the Device Manager section of the Hardware tab window, click Device Manager. The Device Manager window opens.
    4. Double-click the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" entry.
    5. Double-click the name of each USB Host Controller that appears under the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" entry. A window with the name of the installed USB Host Controller appears.
    6. If necessary, click the General tab. If the USB card is working correctly, you should see "This device is working properly" in the Device Status field.
If still no luck, look at [Updating the drivers on your Windows PC|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1768?viewlocale=en_US]particularly for updates to the CD or DVD drive, graphics card, sound card.

  • When I try to transfer songs to my ipod touch or my friends ipod nano in which both have manually managed music, I get error 13019 "Ipod cannot be synced".  This problem started to occur all of a sudden. Any ideas other than the resyncing?

When I try to transfer songs to my ipod touch or my friends ipod nano, I get error 13019 "Ipod cannot be synced".  Everything was working fine and transferring successfully and then this problem started to occur all of a sudden. My music is managed manually and always has. I looked online for a solution and they all involve resyncing the library and unchecking voice memos. Is there a way to resolve this issue without having to resync my music or reinstall itunes?

Have you powered off and then back on the router?
Have you done anything to the router recently like changed a setting?
    Have you tried:
    - Resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Resetting network settings: Settings>GeneralReset>Reset Network SettingsTo me the error sounds like a network/router problem vice aan iPod problem.

  • Ipod playlists syncing onto Iphone problem

Hello, and thanks in advance for looking at this thread!
I got an X-mas iphone, and I'm so confused. I have created multiple playlists on my ipod, and I was hoping that I would be able to copy and sync them onto my new iphone. Problem is, when I go to drag and pull them into the Iphone on Itunes, it won't allow the transfer- Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated.
    One other quick question?:
I have a tape deck adaptor for 2000 celica and direct link adaptor for my 2006 Rav4. Will these adaptors recognize my iphone and play music through my vehicles stereos? Will I have issues with Bluetooth in my Rav4?

The iPhone doesn't allow "drag-and-drop" syncing. Select on the iPhone in the "devices" list in iTunes, then select the "music" tab and check the boxes for the music you want to sync. Click "apply". You'll have to do the same for anything else you want to sync (videos, photos, calendar, contacts, etc).
As for your other question, I have no idea...

    c) unistalled and reinstalled iTunes
Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

  • BPM - Receive Sync/ASync Bridge Problem

    Hi,
I am creating a scenario for an inbound Synch request to be serviced by a BPM process.
Here is the problem that I am facing while trying to configure the Receive Step
    - I created a Message Interface defined as Abstract Synchronous.
    - I created a process model and put in a Receive Step: Mode - Opens S/A Bridge, Synchronous Interface - defined as above.
    - I define a container with Abstract type. But when I try to locate the above defined Abstract Synch message interface, I cannot find it.
    - As a workaround, I create another Abstract Message Interface defined as Abstract ASynch.
    - I create a container with this Abstract ASynch message type.
    - I use this container in the Receive Step.
But activating the Business Process gives the error:
Message to be received and Synchronous Interface do not have identical types.
Can someone give me the correct procedure to configure the Sync / ASync Bridge ? thanks,
    -Manish
