Syncing a selection of contacts

When I connect my iPhone to my iMac to sync, a window pops up informing me that it'll add 14 new contacts, modify 3 and delete 12 contacts in my Address Book on my computer. How do I sync the 14 new contacts and the 3 modified ones but NOT delete the 12 contacts from Address Book?
Thanks
Elie

Try syncing just the group again, but at the bottom on the info tab page there is an advanced section to replace data on the iphone.
Choose the on for contacts and try syncing.
This should replace all the contact data on the iphone.
If it does not work, you can try opening isync, from your applications folder and resetting sync history found in the isync preferences.
Hope this helps

  • Syncing to selected contact group wants to delete files outside of it

    Hello -
I am trying to sync my iPhone contacts to my address book in a specific way. In my address book, I have my personal contacts - friends and family. I also have mailing list subscribers (which gets into the 1,000s - people with whom I am not personally connected). I copied all of my personal contacts into a separate group and selected that group under the iPhone sync options in iTunes. I also checked the box marked "add contacts created outside of groups in this iPhone to" and again chose the special "personal contacts only" group.
However, when I go to actually sync, I get a pop-up box saying that so many contacts will be added (to my laptop), so many contacts will be modified, and so many contacts will be deleted. Which ones are getting deleted? All the ones that are not on my phone, so basically all of my mailing list, non-personal contacts.
Isn't the point of syncing specific contact groups so that you can have your phone dialogue with that particular folder and nothing else - leaving anything outside of that folder alone?
Just to test it out though, I changed the sync setting to "all contacts" to see what would happen, and I get the same message (it's basically going to delete anything that's on my laptop, but not currently on my phone). Why does this happen? Isn't the whole idea of synchronization that the two devices end up having the same file lists? How can I get the iPhone to populate any contacts I added on it to a specific group on my laptop, and vice versa. Seems like they should populate each others lists with missing pieces, rather than one taking the other one over and deleting, well, anything (unless I tell it to).
And no, I do not have any of the advanced overwrite functions enabled.
Does anybody have a solution to this problem? I'd like to sync my contacts, but obviously don't need 2,000 names of people I don't personally know taking up space on my phone.
Thanks for any advice you all can provide!

I think MobileMe is all or nothing--I asked a chat agent a few months back, and that was the case, haven't seen any reports or UI changes.
Send them feedback--it would be great to select Groups and Calendars.

  • I need to Sync/change my iPhone contacts but I can't select "Selected Groups"...?

I need to Sync/change my iPhone contacts but I can't select "Selected Groups"...?

This is what worked for me. Turned off icloud on iphone and computer. Logged into my icloud account at icloud.com via my web browser and deleted all of my contacts and calendars. I was then able to select selected contacts and selected calendars in iTunes.

  • Can iSync sync only selected contacts?

I want to use iSync with my new cell phone, but my address book on my Mac is much larger than on my phone.
I don't want to include everyone on my Mac on my phone.
Is there any way to tell iSync to sync only selected contacts or contact groups?
    Thanks,
    David

Click on your phones icon in iSync, and choose which groups to sync from the list that appears. Edit the groups in Address Book.

  • Any ideas for how to sync to Exchange 2003 - contacts and calendar

    Hi
I am still searching for a mechanism to give me the sync solution I want, which is as follows:
At work I have a PC running Outlook 2003 via an Exchange Server 2003 setup.
At home I have an iMac running Snow Leopard
In the middle I have an iPhone 3G
I want to sync Calendar and Contacts across all three machines.
I want to sync work email between the Exchange server and the iphone, but do NOT need this to sync on my iMac at home
    That's it.
At the moment I can sync email, calendars and contacts successfully between the Exchange server and iPhone, using the over-the-air Exchange Sync on the iPhone. But sadly my iMac will not sync contacts and calendars to the exchange server 2003 as Snow Leopard only supports exchange 2007.
Ironically (because I don't need this bit to work) I have managed to get my iMac to sync with my Exchange server EMAIL, by selecting the Exchange IMAP option when setting up the mail account on my iMac (as opposed to the Exchange 2007 option). However, I cannot get iCal or Address book to sync with Exchange 2003, regardless of the options I select when setting up the new accounts in Address book or iCal. I guess these just do not work with Exchange 2003
I know that I cannot use mobileme as a solution, as you cannot have two over-the-air syncs going on, and I need to maintain my iphone link to the exchange server via activesync
I also know that using itunes to sync via the cable will not work, as this creates separate contacts and calendar files on the iphone and so does not provide the syncing solution I seek.
I have tried using google to act as the middle man between my iMac and Exchange server data - getting the iMac to sync to Google Calandar and Google Address Book, and then using a third party piece of software called gsyncit to sync from google to the .ost outlook file on my PC workstation. This works some of the time, but keeps crashing and leaving me with multiple duplicates to have to sort out - much too much hard work on a regular basis.
So I still do not have a solution. Unfortunately upgrading to Exchange server 2007 is not a solution.....
    Any new ideas out there
    Thanks

I don't think there will be a solution to this. Exchange 2003 just isn't supported.

  • After IOS8 upgrade IPhone5s syncs with exchange but IPad2 syncs ONLY Mail and Contacts, NOT Calendar.  Totally stumped. Ideas anyone?

After IOS8 upgrade IPhone5s syncs with exchange but IPad2 syncs ONLY Mail and Contacts, NOT Calendar.
Also, my other tablet - Samsung TabS - has same issue - calendar wont sync. My IPhone and my desktop (windows) synch just fine.
Google calendar syncs on all devices. Totally stumped. Ideas anyone?
    THANKS

    1.      Log onto Outlook Web Access
    2.      Top right hand part of the screen select "Options"
    3.     Select "See All Options"
    4.      Select "Phone" menu
Check if you have 10 Devices registered.
If you have, you need to delete one of them to add your new Smart Phone to Exchange for synching
Check the "Last Sync Time" to indicate if this device is still active or not.

  • How can I sync only Calendars and Contacts on my work PC

Previous versions of the iCloud control panel allowed me to select separately which items I wanted to sync with a PC, Calendars, Contact, Email.
The new version of the control panel has this bundled as a single choice.
How can I eliminate incuding mail?
I am trying to use this on a work PC to keep calendars and contacts in sync, but cannot include iCould email.  If I cannot eliminate just the email will need to remove all syncing (defeating the purpose of the cloud).

You might wait until the next Mavericks to see if iTunes syncing for contacts and calendars is restored.  Otherwise, you can either install OS X server to restore local syncing (see https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/os-x-server/id714547929), or start syncing your calendars and contacts with another service such as Google/Gmail.

  • How do I stop my Contacts from syncing with my Google contacts?

How do I stop my Contacts from syncing with my Google Contacts?
I figured it out! Trying to delete this now....

Deselect this option under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by selecting Apply. Bookmarks will no longer be synced between the two.

  • I have just upgraded to an Iphone 5 and cant get my contacts to sync. My 4s Contacts default account was from my Mac - but I dont seem to ahve this option on my 5? How do I sync them?

I have just upgraded to an Iphone 5 and cant get my contacts to sync. My 4s Contacts default account was from my Mac - but I dont seem to ahve this option on my 5? How do I sync them?

The way I do it is I hook to my windows computer, it will pop up iTunes. I click iTunes off. The phone will show as another drive on your computer. Click it open then migrate to the photos folder from the iPhone.
Then select all, cut then right click on your pictures folder on your computer or make a new folder on your desk top like I do and right click on new folder and select paste.
Photos will be gone. Just remember to turn off the iPhone sync in your photos folder on the phone or they will come back
    Good Luck

  • How do you select multiple contacts for transfer to another.  BT device?

I Am trying to send specific contacts to the phone book on a Panasonic  'link to cell' phone.  How does one select specific contacts and then send them to the BT paired phone?

    Hello Harvey102
The Bluetooth for your iPhone does not connect to a computer and is for headsets and keyboards. If you want to share it with your computer, you would need to set up a sync or you can share the contact by emailing it and then go to the computer and download it to your computer.

  • Syncing iOS and macbook contacts?????

Is it asking too much to be able to have synced contacts?I know that Microsoft obviously has a vested interest in helping only Microsoft customers, but face it, Apple people use skype also, as problem laden as it is, it is still used. My main quandary...why is it so impossible to add a name and number in skype on my iphone?  Using a iphone 4s.  What I have tried to do is add contacts from my contact book in the phone but skype will only let me add "skype people'.  Why are you alienating non skype people?  I have a ridiculous subscription to be able to use the phone to call ANY number and unless I dial it in by hand I cannot reach them.  Then even if I dial it, I CANNOT go and and edit that same number to put a name in it.  I tried to add contacts on the macbook and hope that the contacts synced.  But lo and behold it DID NOT sync.  So much for progress. thanks in advance for your response.  Please, someone from Skype actually answer this!!!steve

Hi, hopefully I can help you out. First things first - make sure you're up to date. To get the latest Skype iOS client, you need to have at least iOS 7 installed on your device. When writing this, the latest public Skype iOS client is 5.14, you should try to update to this version if you haven't already. After logging in you should swipe to the "people" tab and you should see a dropdown saying either "all contacts", "Skype contacts" or "online contacts". To get your iPhone contacts to show up please select "all contacts" and then you should see them in the list and be able to place calls to them over Skype. Note that selecting this can prompt you to give Skype access to your address book. This should take care of your issue on iPhone. To get the same thing working on your Mac you should first make sure you have the same contacts you're interested in in your Mac Contacts application (synced over iCloud from iOS to Mac). From there again Skype can access them (you can enable this from Skype - Preferences - Show Mac Contacts). These contacts will show up in a separate contact group on Contacts page under Mac Contacts tab (as shown on the screenshot below) Hopefully this helps. -Rene---------- Skype for Mac

  • Address Book–select one contact & copy?

What's a quick & one-step way to select a contact's name, company and address, copy them, thereby allowing paste into another application or document?

Well this still not working. I've checked the "sync automatically" with MobileMe, and now it starts syncing suddenly, as expected when the system thinks something has changed and needs to be updated. Let's say, after adding a new contact in my iPhone. That works flawlessly, from iPhone to MobileMe.
That would be great, if only it worked from MobileMe to my Mac. Again, "sycing contacts" takes forever, and in the end, any new contacts in my iPhone and MobileMe don't appear in Address Book in my Mac, and disappear from MobileMe, since that contact was not in my Mac at the time of "syncing". It's one way only, and one would think it would be easy to set this up correctly.
And still, after more than 30 minutes "syncing" contacts, it says the contact data "never synchronized".
    Please, any suggestions?

  • Ipod touch (5th generation) won't sync all selected music in itunes.

ipod touch (5th generation) won't sync all selected music in itunes version 12.0.1.  Under the summary tab, I've selected "Sync only checked songs and videos."  In the music tab, I've selected the various albums and artists I want.  I click on "sync," and some albums sync, others do not.  Often, only some tracks of the selected albums sync.  Additionally, some albums sync that I haven't even selected.  My computer's operating system is Windows 8.1.  Please help - thank you!

Providing the songs play OK in iTunes on the computer and you do not have any Restrictions set that wold prevent syncing those songs (Settings>General>Restrictions; iTunes purchases only)
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Syncing Blackberry with ACT contacts and Calendar and Email through BES

I have had the hardest time setting up a blackberry for a user. It is the storm or bold 9800
we purchased companionlink and I was able to get the BES configured so it doesn't sync the calendar or contacts just email. On the Companionlink I have had issues were it doesn't sync the calendar or duplicates in the blackberry.
I have talked with support at companionlink and they tell me to select wipe the data on the BB and resync, that process takes forever. So my only option is to wipe everything clean and get one good sync but I can keep doing this for the user everytime.
IS there any troubleshooting methods I can use right now to get rid of the duplicates in the phone?
Or another program worth trying out?

There are two options that I know of.
First, you can try bluetooth syncing so you don't have to plug the BB in http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB04132&sliceId=SAL_Pub...
Second, and the one I use, is the Google Desktop sync. http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=89955 This will only sync calendar; not contacts. I sync 1-way from my Outlook to Google Calendar then use the normal Google Sync to get it all on my Blackberry.
