Syncing after restoring

I went to the Apple store today because my iPod was not working correctly. They restored it while I was there. I came home and tried to sync it so that I can put the songs back onto my iPod but it is not working. My iTunes recognizes my iPod and the "Do Not Disconnect" picture comes up on my iPod, but nothing happens. I press the sync button and nothing happens. Help!

I have a similiar problem and Applecare told me they can not fix it. A 2nd level product specialist blames my lap top. When I connect my iPod, iTunes states that it is corrupted, to restore. When I restore I come back to the same message.

  • Iphone 4 will not sync after restore

Iphone 4 will not sync via itunes via USB cable after restore.  Rebooted PC and iphone.  Latest version of itunes and iOS.  Device appears on left hand window, but the main window only shows the Apple logo, and empty white box, and a small LOCK symbol.  Other iphone and ipad still sync properly, but restored iphone will not.  Please help.

I had the EXACT same thing and I have appeared to fix it thanks to Amand99:
    1) Make Sure you are running latest Itunes.
    2) Plug usb cord into computer with itunes on. DO NOT PLUG INTO PHONE.
    3) Do a hard shut down of your phone, where you hold the home and lock button and don't let go until the phone completely dies.
    4) Hold down home button for three seconds. DO NOT LET GO. While continuing to hold, plug chord into phone, connecting it to computer.  DO NOT LET GO. Hold for an additional five seconds.
    5) A window should appear in itunes saying that a phone is connected which needs a system restore.
    6) Itunes should allow you to restore and update.
    7) Now this was key for me because this might have been my mistake which originally caused this issue.  After the restore, Itunes shows the iPhone grey with a spinning wheel (like bofore).  I looked at the iPhone and it looked like it wanted me to go through the setup options. DON'T TOUCH THE PHONE.  Be Patient, iTunes will eventually recognize the phone and finally ask if you want to restore it.  Choose "restore from backup", and let iTunes do it's stuff.

  • IPod Touch 2nd Gen. sync after restore

Authorized new hard drive for iTunes. Did backup then restored from back up, transferred previously purchased library to iPod Touch. Following restore, all purchased music, downloaded CDs AND games remained on the iPod Touch. Good so far.....then tried to sync device so all downloaded CDs would go out to the iTunes library, but got the message "iPod Touch is synched with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase his iPod and sync with this iTunes library? An iPod can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPod with the contents of this iTunes library." Don't want to lose the games and downloaded CD songs but sounds like that will happen if I click "Erase and Sync". Any suggestions on how to keep the games, etc.? Should I just ignore the message? Will that cause other problems? Thanks!

    - Transfer non-iTune purchassed muic to the computer by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    - After everthing is on the "new" computer, connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking one the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iod from that backup.

  • IPod won't sync after restore - Please Help!!!

    Hello,
Thanks for taking the time to read my posting.
I have a 3rd Gen 40gb iPod which was running the 2.2 firmware on Windows XP, which has been fine up until recently. The songs started to randomly skip during playback; this went on for a few weeks. So I decided to restore/reformat the iPod using the iPod updater software and this is where the problem started.
I downloaded the most up to date updater from Apple and updated the firmware to version 2.3. However when I came to sync my iPod with iTunes (ver 6) it would start transferring tracks and get about 5 or 6 on there and then it would hang and not transfer anymore and my iPod would just say Do not disconnect. This happened about 3 or 4 times. I decided to restore the firmware on my iPod to 2.2 using an older updater and now iTunes won’t see / sync my iPod at all…
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong or what I should do to sort the problem?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Windows PC   Windows XP

I would suggest that you go to firmware version 2.3 again (as opposed to 2.2), as this may be why iTunes isn't recognizing it now.
But, I understand that after you restored your iPod (with the 2.3 version), iTunes would bog up after updating only a few songs.
I think it's probably better to have 2.3 instead of 2.2. Try assigning your iPod a different drive letter when you connect it.
Log off of any other users on your computer.
Then, connect your iPod. When you connect your iPod, press and hold the "Ctrl" and "Shift" keys for about 20-30 seconds. This will prevent automatic-syncing from happening in iTunes.
After you've stopped automatic-update setting, assign your iPod a different drive letter (see below):
1 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
2 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
3 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).
For more details, see this article:
Windows confuses iPod drive letter / Changing drive letter
If you need any additional help on how to follow these steps, post back with the details of your issue, and I'd be glad to try to help.

  • IPod Touch won't sync after restore

iPod Touch, 1st gen., system software 3.1.3
I know this is an old device and there probably aren’t many people still using OS 3.1.3 but this is what I’ve got.  All was working reasonably well before I performed a restore, hoping to remedy some slowness.  However, since reloading both software and contents, I continually get the following message while performing a sync: “The iPod “Laurent Fignon” cannot be synced.  The required file cannot be found.”  While podcasts are updated, photo albums will not load before that message appears and the sync ends.  I’ve tried the restore a couple of times since, thinking that might help but I continue to see the same message when trying to sync.
Rest of the platform is MacBook Pro 4.1, OS 10.6.8, iTunes 10.6.3

Thanks for the suggestions so far.
After trying a couple of less labor intensive suggestions, I downloaded and reinstalled iTunes.  Performed a reboot.  Started iTunes.  Tried to sync the iPod Touch.  Still stopped mid-way through with the same message - "The Pod cannot be synced.  The required file cannot be  found."  As the sync had been quitting at the point where it said it was installing photos, I unchecked the "Sync Photos From" button and tried to sync again.  This time the sync finished successfully.  However, I'd like the photos from the album "iPod Touch" in my iPhoto library to be on the iPod Touch.  It is listed as an album in iPhoto and I can view the pics there but iTunes apparently can't find them.  There is no folder in user/Pictures/ called "iPod Touch".  I don't think I can open the iPhoto Library file.  Anyone have another idea?

  • Some Apps Won't Sync After Restore

I ran a restore on my iPod Touch, and after it completed most of my apps will not sync.
Everything worked prior to the restore (Facebook, Netflix, Twitter, etc), but none of these will sync to the iPod at all. Some of my apps (Angry Birds, ESPN, Solitaire) sync just fine.
    Music and Podcasts sync fine.
I deauthorized and reauthorized my PC (running Windows XP)
I ensured the Sync Apps box is checked
Restrictions on the iPod are Off
There is over 600MB of space available on the iPod
I checked for App updates, none were available
I rolled back from iTune 10.7 to 10.6.3
I reset the iPod using the power & home buttons
    I ran another restore
    None of these were successful.
The iPod Touch is running version 4.2.1 (this the latest this generation of Touch will update to)
I attempted to download both the Facebook and Netflix apps directly onto the iPod via wifi, and they say iOS 5 is necessary; this was not the case previously.
    Any ideas? Thanks

As Ingo2711 said, the developers have updated many or their apps and the updated apps are no longer comnpatible with earlier iOS.
    FB now requires:
Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.

  • Pdf sync after restore...

I am trying to sync my pdfs after an itunes restore.
When I check "Sync" at books tab I get the message that the ipad is synced with another library and it will be erased.
If I coninue will all stuff be erased or just ibooks app data (whick is empty anyway).
Its a fresh restore after ios update from 4x to 5.1.1 ( its an ipad1).
    Thanks.

Also I am trying to retrieve the list of some pdf files I didnt backup.
For these I only have the itunes backup folder.
Is purchases.plist stored in the itunes backup?
What about ibooks.plist (actually is this plist still used, and if yes, where is it located in ios fs?)

  • IPod won't sync after restore - now iTunes freezes up and iPod is empty

Two days ago my iPod started acting up - playing a song for about the first 10 seconds, then freezing up. I did the 5 R's - many, many resets, switching the USB port, reinstalling the software, and several restore attempts. The new and more pressing issue now is that, after a restore attempt, the iPod syncs to about song #50 (of about 1500) and then iTunes freezes up. Because of the restore, the iPod is now empty...no tunes...and I can't get it to sync. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I fear this is a glitch with the new update? What is the solution here?

I am having similar problems. My ipod was working perfectly fine in the morning and then at lunch time it said i needed to "connect to computer source and restore" i didnt have a computer at the time so i waited till i got home. when i got home i let it sit on my computer charging before i did anything. i took it off when it was fully charged and went to go listen to it. i listened to one song and in the middle of the second song, the music started to flicker and skip. i just shut off, when i turned it back on again ALL THE CONTENT ON MY IPOD HAD JUST DISSAPEARED. i was so angry and ive been calling around, reading the internet site pages and trying all that i can to fix this **** of a problem but nothing works. HELP ME PLEASE!!

  • Can't sync after restore

IPod screen required a restore. After doing that, I am unable to get all of my music/videos back on the Ipod. A "full sync" only put some of the stuff back. I tried manually dragging and dropping my music but it would only add 60 songs back on the Ipod. I cannot drag and drop any playlists. When I try, the Ipod won't "highlight" when I drag the playlists to it and nothing syncs.
Won't get into my absolute disgust with the lack of any docs about this on the support site. Seems like they feel if the five Rs don't do the trick it is your problem.

More fun: I called Apple support. First the guy tells me I need to update my usb driver. Then he says never mind, that is for Windows.
But he suggested it could be a problem with the latest update of Itunes, which probably needs a faster usb port. He suggested finding an older version of Itunes and installing it.
    A) They ought to give you a warning that the update might cause a problem with an older Mac.
    B) The update was worthless to me anyhow, since it was basically to allow rented video and they don't support that for 5th Gen anyhow
    C) I downloaded ITunes 7.5 and installed it, only to find it would not work because it says my library was created with a newer version of Itunes (can't even create a new library, it simply won't start past that message)
Oh, but they did tell me I could pay $29 for more help with the problem that apparently they created.
I wish I could stomach the thought of a Zune because right now I am major P#$%ed off.

  • Ios 8.0.2 sync after restore freezes after ipad mini restore

Its unbelievable the kind of buggy releases apple has started releasing off late! this is worse than microsoft!
i have an ipad mini 1st gen with ios 8.0.2, the UI was extremely laggy so i transferred my purchases, backed up and restored my ipad. now the app syncing never ends! it freezes on some or the other app each time i restart the sync. its getting on my nerve. i left it to sync all afternoon and this time it froze on pages (which was the 5th app being synced).
    HELP!

    Try the following:
Try logging out of your Apple ID:
    Settings/iTunes & App Store/(tap your Apple ID)/tap Sign Out
    Next, reset your device:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
After the reset, sign back in to your Apple ID:
Settings/iTunes & App Store, then sign back in using your credentials
If it doesn't work (I've now heard a couple of replies saying that it does NOT), you'll have to wait for a fix by Apple since this is a system notification.
The other option (which should work) is to restore the device as new (not from a backup), and move your content (data, settings, music, apps, etc) back to the device manually. You'll need a backup your content. This is a pretty big & involved task so you may just want to ignore that badge on your Settings app.

  • Apps won't sync after restore

I have been fighting one problem after another for two days. Finally got my ipod touch restored. I have synced everything but my apps. Progress line indicates apps are being installed but when finished there are no apps. I am overwhelmed by the responses when I search for the problem. Sorry to ask for help without thoroughly researching but it is late and I'm frustrated. Thanks.

All that seemed to be OK but next attempt to sync worked. However, several of my apps stored data and all of that is gone. I can reenter some of it but a lot of it is historical info that is simply gone unless I can find it somewhere. Any chance of getting my data back? Thanks.

  • Ipad 2 not syncing after restore

I have an ipad 2.  I did a back up to itunes on macbook pro.  I then did the restore.  After it was restored to factory. This is what happens:
    1.  The ipad says to connect to itunes (via picture on screen).
    2.  The ipad shows up in itunes and asks me to restore from previous back up.
    3.  I choose the previous back up and click sync.
    4.  It does its thing...(the sync cirlcle on the ipad and itunes is rotating).  In the end, the ipad still asks me to start the process.
When the ipad is connected to itunes, I can see the apps movies, music with in itunes (as if it was synced).  but the ipad is still asking me to connect to itunes.
    Any suggestions?

Have you tried either of these things?
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
