Syncing AkaiPro Mini to Logic's tempo

Just bought the Akai Mini http://www.akaipro.com/mpkmini for it's flexible arpeggio feature. It's supposed to be able to allow the tempo in Logic to determine the tempo of the arpeggio, but I can't figure out how to make that happen. The manual, naturally, doesn't make this clear at all. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks...

For the record, I found the answer on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ck1OOXEOY3Q
As he explains, you have to
Go into the Logic project's "Settings."
Select "Syncronization."
Select the "MIDI" tab
Then, next to "Transmit MIDI Clock", check "Destination 1" and use the pulldown menu to choose your device, in my case the MPK Mini. See pic below...
In other words, it's not enough to tell the MPK Mini to use an external clock (which you do through it's Editor software). You have to tell that clock (in this case, Logic's) to send it's signal to the MPK Mini. The "conversation" has to go both ways...
This was helpful to me. Hope it's of some use to others!

  • Logic 7.2 update : can't control logic's tempo with tempo slider anymore !

    hi to all ,
i use a tempo slider controlled by program changes to control logic's tempo in my live setup . For this to work I found one has to delete all values from the tempo list editor to avoid sync error messages , and this cannot be done with the 7.2 update .
Doe's anyone know of what has happened to logic for this to change , is there any new preferences i need to turn off , doe's anybody use logic in a similar way and has a work around ?
this is show stopper for the way i use logic , Logic 7.1 for me forever ??

Download the "XSKey Updater" http://support.apple.com/downloads/XSKey_Updater and and run it. It will display the serial number of your XSKey. This is the "original serial number" you need to enter (15 digits). If you keep that, you no longer have to enter the XSKey to authorize a fresh install of Logic.

If all else fails, use a previous version of Logic for your live gigs. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
(BTW, what about 7.2 is more advantageous than the version of Logic you used to use?)

  • How can I sync iPod Mini after hard drive reformat?

My son has an iPod mini. Recently, we had to have our computer hard drive reformatted and had to reinstall iTunes. When we try to sync the mini, it shows up with all it's songs, but the songs won't update into the library, so the desktop iTunes has nothing in it. Anyone able to help me with this? I'm sure it's an easy fix but for now I'm at a loss. Thanks in advance for any help you can shed on this.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Sounds like you have to transfer the songs from the mini back to the computer first.
    Check this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=797426#797426
Before there is a next time, consider backing up the songs on your computer on CD-R or DVDR or external hard disk before doing a reformat.

  • Mbox Micro or Mbox Mini w/ Logic

Anyone here had any experience w/ an Mbox Micro (or Mbox Mini) and Logic ? Are they in any way compatible ??? Our band has been doing some recordings in Pro Tools LE 8, and I want to be able to work on the mixes on my downtime. However for work and my own projects, I mainly use Logic and wouldn't mind an external interface (I find my MBP's internal soundcard to be quite noisy, expecially when I'm running a second monitor using the DVI output...).
Thus ideally an interface that runs both Logic and Pro tools - perhaps an MBox Micro ???

The new Mbox series is about to be released so you may want to wait until then considering they're advertised to work with all DAWs.

  • Mbox Mini and Logic for school. Question?

I am going to Fullsail in Orlando, Florida in Jan. 2008. They teach Pro Tools HD there, but just added Logic Pro to the Recording Arts program. I'm thinking of buying a mbox mini and Logic Express to get more familiar with both programs before going to school.
Will the mbox mini work as an interface for Logic? I'm just trying to avoid buying a separate interface. I'll buy one if I have to. What about the Emu 0202 USB ($129.00)?
Thanks for any and all help.

Thanks. I'm actually interested in post-production
audio. Sound design, editing, foley type sound
effects and the like. I'm a musician (drums, keys)
but have always had an affinity for the explosions,
door creaks, foot steps, and the "how did they make
that sound" type of stuff in movies and video.
I've heard great things about Fullsail. I'll have to
relocate there, but it's only 3 hrs. north of me. I'm
    in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Thanks for all of the help.

    Hi,
I undrlined the stuff you will probably be doing best in PT.Now I LOVE Logic, but the standard in studios for movies here in the USA is not Logic. It's ProTools. So learn that one first,as it is easier, and as you learn get through Logic.

  • Any tips on setting up and using akai mpk mini in logic 9?

any tips on setting up and using akai mpk mini in logic 9?
    Im stuck!!

To really find out in what frequency range the harshness you're describing lives you should enhance it first making it even more harsh and then reduce it with steep EQ bands. Just dialing in some EQ at 3 k because "they say" that's where the harshness lives will not yield satisfying results. I also found that using dynamic EQs which only react above/below a certain level work wonders sometimes compared to static EQs. The harshness might only occur on loud parts but not on soft parts so why dial out the entire frequency range for good making everything sound dead. Sonalksis has some great dynamic tools for this and I use those in almost every project.

  • Syncing Battery 3 with Logic Pro 7

I'm new to Logic Pro and let me just say that this is the best production prog I have ever used..
That aside.. I've had Battery 3 for sometime now and would like to learn how to sync it up with Logic..
Can someone explain how to do this?
I also have FM8.. will that sync up as well?
I've never sync up 2 apps b4.. so be gentle when explaining.
    Thanks in advance!
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Open Logic
    open arrange window
select or create an Audio Instrument track (not an Audio track)
On the left side of the screen above the fader control you will see 2 input and output slots (it has "I/O" above it)
The top one is the input slot. Click hold til you get a pull down menu.
    Select Stereo>AU Instruments> Native Instruments>Battery
The battery window will open just like using it as stand alone. Select your kit. Anything you write/play/record to that track will play with that drum kit sounds
If you can't see Battery 3 then you may be using an Intel Mac but not have the Universal Binary upgrade for Battery installed.

  • Syncing an MPC1000 to Logic

I am looking into buying one but am unsure on how to sync it to Logic. I do not have a MIDI converter - do i need one? Or can it sync to Logic via the USB connection?

    Hi Craig,
this subject has been discussed here numerous times during the last couple of months, although for the MPC 2500 and the MPC 2000.
May I suggest, that you initiate a search in this forum for "MPC" or MPC 2500".
This will help you to see that it is indeed possible to sync the MPC to Logic.
A simple MIDI interface is highly recommended. Something like USB MIDIsport 2x2 from M-Audio is all you need for your purpose.

  • Using the MPK Mini with Logic Pro

Hi, I got an MPK Mini with Logic Pro.
At first it was working fine but I left it for a couple of weeks but now when I plug it in, Logic doesn't recognise it anymore.
I've read this http://documentation.apple.com/en/logicpro/controlsurfacessupport/index.html#cha pter=1%26section=1 but I still haven't been able to get it working.
    Has anyone got any ideas?

  • Sync boss rc50 to Logic (tempo)

    Hi,
I've searched around with no luck so thought I would try here.
I have a Boss RC50 looper and would like to sync it to Logic.  In Logic, I setup Midi Clock in the synchronization section and RC50 is set to receive midi.  I have a Motu Tiempiece and connected Midi out to Midi in on the RC50.  When I hit play in Logic, in theory, the Boss should catch the tempo and start playing back.  I was able to do this easily with Ableton Live but not with Logic.  Can anyone help me out!
    Thanks!

Thank you! I will go home tonight and try your
suggestion. I am not sure if I understand setting up
the "environment" for midi, but will accept any and
    all suggestions and advice!
In fact, if anyone lives near Melville, New York, I
would compensate them for a few hours of private
    tutoring!
    Thanks again.

  • RAX and Logic 8 tempo sync

I installed RAX (virtual stack)so i can run Atmosphere. Been trying everything to get the tempo to sync between the two but no luck. Anybody done it?? Any help appreciated. Thanks

Thanks buddy - firstly, i dont think ypu can rewire RAX. Its basically a standalone plug-in host. The omly reason i use it is to run ATmosphere which is not intel mac compatible ( well its supposed to be but its NOT). The way i run it is to create an IAC Bus ( virtual midi connection) between Logic and RAX and i can trigger the RAX from Logic. For some reason i cant get to automate tempo changes thru Logic into RAX even tho i make all the settings in RAX for ext. tempo sync. Since right now i'm using only Atmosphere, tempo changes really dont matter since most of the sounds are "ambient patches". But if i am using arpegiatted sounds and there are tempo changes in the song, i cannot trigger the tempo changes in RAX. Am sure there is something in the LOGIC environment that i'm supposed to do but i cant figure it out.

  • Roland MC500 into logic - setting tempo for imported midi data

My mate has an Roland MC500, where he's programmed multi-tracked midi info for songs etc, and we've sussed how to import the channels into separate regions in logic.
We've set the tempo as per the tempo on the MC500, but after importing the track, after a certain length of time the tempo goes out of sync. All the midi data has come across, and when assigning soft-synths etc it plays fine, but just moves out of tempo.
Is there a way that, when you have imported midi data in this way, you can ask logic to confirm/set the tempo?
I've had a read thru the manuals etc, but may have missed where it describes that bit?
    Thanks for any advice.
    andy

    yes...
you need to set the MC500 to send the MMC over its MIDI outs... than in Logic you must set th sync "Blue button"
the picture shows MTC but if you scroll down the menu you will find MMC settings... that must be turned ON on Logic settings Synchronization.
Logic must be setted as Slave... because Roland device is the slower one!
