Syncing all podcasts instead of just some

My iPhone has been running out of space a lot recently so I decided to set the phone's Podcast settings within iTunes to 'Automatically include 10 most recent unplayed episodes of all podcasts'. Instead of trying to sync all the podcasts that I've subscribed to and fit them all on my iPhone.
Unfortunately, I've tried syncing this many times and yet the iPhone's podcast app still tries to download ALL podcasts and continuously fills my phone.
Why isn't the iPhone syncing only 10 most recent unplayed of each subscription?

Thanks for your assistance. Yes, I have done all that too actually. I ended up unticking Podcast syncing in my itunes and removing the entire app from my phone. I then changed the phone's settings in iTune's to sync only the 10 podcasts and re-installed the app. It's still trying to sync all podcasts though. When I go into my Podcasts App on the phone it says '67 items downloading' and many of the podcasts have a never-ending list of audio...

  • My classic iPod is syncing all songs instead of just the ones checked

my iPod classic is syncing all songs from library rather than just the ones checked and is not giving me the pull-up screen to make this change

To stop it from syncing automatically when you plug it in, in iTunes, choose Edit > Preferences. Click Devices. Select “Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically.”
If you click on your device name (from the left side menu) you can check "manually manage music".
You can choose what to sync with that selected .
Click here to find out how to manage content manually on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod.

  • Why can't I get my iTunes library to sync all tunes and not just purchased tunes

I have itunes on my pc, macbookair, and iphone .  I'm able to sync however the libraries are not the same.  iphone and pc 342 tunes, macbook air shows only those purchased from itunes and not those added years ago by uploading CDs.  All settings seem to be OK - share all, sync all, all devices authorized etc.  Any suggestions?

  • ITunes 7 attempting to sync all Podcast episodes regardless of selection

I don't know if it's just me, but iTunes 7 seems to be ignoring which podcast episodes I have selected to sync and which I haven't, instead attempting to sync them all then erroring. I can get it to work if I only sync new episodes, but I like to keep favorites of previous 'casts as well. Is this an annoying functionality change, a bug, or did I just miss a change in how to achieve my previous configuration?
*Also wanted to add that this now removes partially played podcasts since they're no longer "unplayed", and the "10 most recent/unplayed" options means I can't load whole podcast books anymore.

I've got a separate thread running on this, which Derek also replied on (thanks for posting in both, Derek):

The solution Mark found is not working for me. After disabling "manually manage" to enable "sync checked", and then re-enabling "manually manage", it at first appears like "sync checked" will stay enabled. But after hitting the Apply button, "sync checked" turns off again.

  • Itunes 11 not syncing all podcasts

    Hello,
I've been noticing I have fewer and fewer podcasts on iTunes 11.1.3.8 syncing to my iPhone 4S on ios 6.1.3.
I have a playlist for new podcasts and it keeps getting shorter ...
I thought podcasts were shutting down as happens when life takes over for the hosts.
I looked at the podcasts from the sidebar and listed all unplayed podcasts and it would seem that itunes has just decided not to sync half of the podcasts it's downloading.
These playlists have worked since I got my iPhone 4S about two years ago?
Is anyone else having this problem ?
    Should I downgrade to Itunes 10 ?
and have you found a way to fix this new feature in iTunes?
    Thanks for your time,
    Bobby

so it would seem that Apple decided I only wanted the most recent episodes instead of all episodes
iTunes was skipping most of my podcasts if there was more than one posted since the last time I ran iTunes.
Itunes was downloading a bunch of podcasts every day ... and skipping any that had multiple added episodes between checks.
    Settings Check ...
Check for new Episodes Every Hour - Yes
I had it set to download all Episodes, but installing Itunes 11 changed it to download Most Recent only ...
    will this fix it ?
Now it's downloading a carp load of podcasts to my computer ...
changing default settings is one thing ...
changing my settings without warning me is kinda frustrating ...
    lets see if this works

  • Icon Preview - Turn off for all system instead of just folders?

I hate the icon preview. I prefer the traditional icon placeholder.
You can go to "show view options," but it only gets rid of it for that folder.
Anyway to get rid of it across the entire system? Thanks.

You also need to click the button at the bottom "Use as Defaults"--I noticed it tends to be greyed out when I first open a Finder window, and I need to make some change to get it to be active again. I just now changed the option in List view to have it stop drawing custom thumbs for all folders in List view, and I had to first uncheck the "Always open..." box at the top for the folder I had open, then I could click the Defaults button at the bottom. Of course, we'll see what happens when I restart....

  • HT1386 iphone 4 with outlook 2010. The sync does NOT sync all of info such as some Notes and some contacts. Any advice please?

When Syncing iPhone with iTunes with Outlook 2010 with Wiindows7 not all of the information is sysnchronized. e.g. Outlook Notes shows 8 more entries than iPhone. Any help would be appreciated. Sync is done by direct cable connection.

I finally found a solution that worked.
I installed the App "Group SMS" from the App Store. Then I created a new group. Then I added all my addresses manually one by one. And when I then synchronize - all my contacts appeared again in Outlook.

  • Ipod tries to sync all songs instead of checked ones...

So I'm having a slightly similar problem to others that have written before in that my computer doesn't seem to recognize the ipod. When I plug it in a message is displayed claiming that "there is no disc in drive e"; but this doesn't seem to interfere since songs will still go on the ipod and it will still charge. The main problem I'm having is that Itunes keeps telling me that I have too many songs for the available space, when I know that isn't true since the last time I plugged it into the computer it accepted all the songs. I will un-check songs to try to create more space, but the same message is displayed. It won't allow me to pick the option of only syncing the checked songs and therefore it keeps trying to put un-checked songs onto the ipod.

    If it has a click wheel and a 20GB drive, it's a 4th gen.
It is possible that the iPod's hard drive is going bad. Two things you can try...
First, use Windows to reformat the iPod's hard drive. You can do so in a My Computer or Windows Explorer window. Don't use any quick format options; use a full format. It is possible that this procedure will error out or otherwise not complete (for the same reason there is a problem with syncing). But if it does complete, run iTunes and immediately use the Restore button to install and initialize the iPod's software. Then try syncing again.
If you still have problems, or formatting does not complete successfully, the other thing you can try is to open the iPod, disconnect the battery, and check the connections between the hard drive and the logic board. There are two connection points. Disconnect them and inspect them for any corrosion. Reconnect them and then the battery, making sure there is no looseness. Before closing the iPod, try doing a Restore again, followed by syncing.
    Here is a helpful guide.

  • Some, but not all, podcasts existing on the iPod no longer appear in iTunes. Different podcasts have been affected at different times, after changes in the state of the iPod. Only podcasts are affected.

I have not seen this precise issue addressed anywhere. I don’t know if it’s an iTunes or an iPod problem:
    - Some, but not all, podcasts existing on the iPod no longer appear in iTunes;
this, after normal behavior for more than a year since purchase of the iPod.
    - Different podcasts have been affected at different times, after changes in the state of the iPod.
    - Only podcasts are affected.
    - This concerns an iPod nano 6th gen. and iTunes 11.0.2 (26) on System 10.6.8
    - The only change to iTunes, the Mac, or the iPod is that just before this condition began
I’d begun syncing an iPhone via iTunes.
I sync manually (“manually manage music and videos”). The first time this happened, I wanted to delete seventeen podcast episodes (all belonging to one podcast) existing on the iPod — but they didn’t show up in iTunes. I tried re-downloading them and re-syncing, to see if the new versions would somehow “re-link” to iTunes. They didn’t. Only one — new — episode appeared in iTunes.
I ultimately reset the iPod and manually resynced all the podcasts I currently had on iTunes. That worked, though I had to painstakingly add in all the other content deleted by the reset.
So: after that reset and manual sync, all podcasts and episodes on the iPod were visible to iTunes and I was able to delete the podcast and its — now 18 — episodes I’d wanted to get rid of to begin with. But the next time I connected the iPod, only 8 podcast episodes out of 21 episodes total existing on the iPod were visible to iTunes. These are different podcasts; I’d deleted the original “invisible” ones.
By “visible,” I mean in the “Podcasts” list view under “[name]’s iPod” in the iTunes sidebar. If I select “[name]’s” iPod in the iTunes sidebar and the “Podcasts” tab, all podcasts and episodes are visible, though greyed out because I’m set to sync manually. It’s unclear to me if these are the podcasts on the iPod or those currently in iTunes, as they are currently the same. If I switch to syncing automatically, all content on the iPod will be lost again, so I’m not up to trying it at the moment.
As I said,  this involves only podcasts. All other content on the iPod does appear in iTunes.

I have the same problem- i see my movies in the ipod section in itunes and they even show as mpeg4 in the 'kind' section but they dont have that small TV icon next to them. if i play these in itunes, they play fine- but try playing them on the ipod and all you hear is the sound and no picture. All videos that i manually transfer work fine in the beginning- its when i hook up the ipod to the comp again and start itunes- they start showing up without the 'tv' icon!! i have to again transfer them from the itunes library to activate them as videos.
    Need Help!!!

  • 5th Gen iPod Video not syncing all video podcasts

My 5th Gen iPod video is not syncing all of my video podcasts.
I did specify in the settings to sync all videos, but for some reason it only places 3 of each on the iPod. This is using the latest version of iTunes, OS X 10.4.8, and iPod up-to-date.
This did work fine with the previous version of iTunes and only seemed to happen since the "upgrade".
I've tried restoring the ipod - didn't work
    Reinstalled iTunes - didn't work
    Rebooted system - didn't work
    Undocked/Redocked iPod - didn't work
    Please Help.

Assuming you're running iTunes 7, connect the iPod and wait for it to appear in the iTunes source list. When it does, click on it, and click on the 'podcast' tab. Make sure it is set to sync all podcasts. Check the 'video' tab as well.
iTunes 7 included several new options for setting just how the iPod will update in iTunes. So, it's a good idea to go through them and make sure they're set exactly how you'd like them to be.
    Hope this helps

  • ITunes forcing ALL podcasts onto iPod

Hi! First time poster, long time lurker...
I have an 80g video iPod and my wife have a 30g, fyi...
Last night I subscribed to several new video podcasts; I have used and subscribed to many video podcasts in the past without a problem. When I went to sync our 30g iPod, it automatically syncs all podcasts onto it - as unusable files, not as viewable content. That's 11.11 g of space that I might want in the future. This is with the "Sync Podcasts" box unchecked - which means that, in theory, after you sync your iPod all podcasts should be removed. I removed it and it appears to have no podcasts/tv shows/movies, yet still it shows 11.11g used up in video (and, I presume, 2-3g of audio podcasts as well that are unusuable, and unsearchable, too.)
I did a Restore on my wife's iPod and it worked fine after that - you can now pick and choose podcasts. Did the same with mine, but it still happened - all podcasts are now saved without me choosing them to. If you then add a Podcast it syncs for a second, and the chosen Podcasts are automatically there, now veiwable.
    I hope I'm making myself clear - I'm not a really tech-savvy dude.
    Any help would be sweet!

Am suddenly getting error code 3250 when trying to download certain podcasts...not all, just some. How can I fix? Help.

I am getting the same error, and have been, since the last iTunes update.     Driving me crazy, as some podcasts download without issue, others won't download at all, and get the 3250 error code.

just bought the iphone 5 and before syncing to my mac i took some photos then finally decided to sync it but it deleted ALL of the photos and videos and replaced them with the old pics i had on my iphone4.. i need those pics please help

    Nope.
Did you fail to import them before restoring from backup?  If so, then they are gone.
You should import all photos taken with the iphone to your comuter regularly as you would with any digital camera, most especially before any update or restore.

  • ITunes won't synch just the 10 Most recent Podcasts, it syncs all.

I have two podcasts I want to listen to on my iPod, Security Now! and The Mac Observer's Mac Geek Gab.
I don't want them all on my computer either, there are over 160 episodes combined... I just want the 10 most recent of both. So I go to the iPod's menu, click on Podcasts, and click on sync, and select from the pulldown menu "10 Most Recent" episodes of: and I hit the radio button named Selected podcasts, and I select only:
    I click only:
    Security Now!
The Mac Observer's Mac Geek Gab.
When I press Apply, it syncs all of the podcasts from those two podcasts and not only the 10 of them like I requested.
What is going on, why is this happening, and just for upcoming questions.
I formated the HD, installed a new OS, itunes is all new, there are no saved preferences from the old itunes, or old system.

With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

  • ITunes syncs ALL episodes of a podcast

I am subscribed to the CarTalk podcast which is a subscription through audible.com For some reason, even though I have it set to only sync the latest 3 episodes, it syncs all of them, taking up a large space.
I've even un-checked the older ones and set the "Only sync checked items" option, and it still syncs ALL of them
What can I do? Or what am I doing wrong?

Chances are that iTunes does not have ALL the old episodes of this show, but you can get whatever it does have by right-clicking on the title of the podcast in your Podcast library and choosing "Update Podcast." After a moment, all old shows that iTunes knows about and which you have not previously dismissed will appear in light gray with "Get" buttons next to them. Just click the "Get All" button above the list.
If you had previously cleared this list but now want another chance to look at it, the only way I think you can see it again is to unsubscribe from the podcast, then resubscribe.
For older shows iTunes doesn't know about, look for them on the producer's website. You may find an archive there. Chances are good that if you download the shows from the producer's own site and drag them to iTunes, the files will have the right information inside them to make them appear in the Podcast library alongside current episodes.
