Syncing and Clock Settings/Adjustment

Hi Everyone
I don't know if any of you do that, but I have the habit to moving my clock forward to make sure I'm on time.
All my clocks  show a different time ( macbook +15 mn, Iphone +20mn )
I know it's a bit silly, but it helps me to be on time.
However it becomes a problem when all the sudden the Iphone shows the same time as my laptop.
It first happened after I sync, then I made sure to turn Off the Automatic Date and Time on the Iphone.
(General /Datre Time /Set Automatically OFF)
But When I recently upgraded to IOS 6, out of nowhere it adjusted to the laptop clock settings, althought the Iphone was still set to OFF.
What do you think causes that?
How Can I avoid it?
is it ueo to IOS upgrade?
Thanks for your help
David

Hi, Gothboy -
If the PMU reset that Tom suggests does not fix the problem, then try a reset of NVRAM -
- Start the computer and immediately hold down Command-Option-O-F
- When the computer starts it should open into a prompt screen (Open Firmware).
- Press Return, you will see OK.
- Type reset-nvram include the dash, here and below.
- Press Return
- Type set-defaults
- Press Return
- Type reset-all
- Press Return
The system should restart. If not, try typing exit or shutdown, or you can manually restart the system.
Note - some machines may return "unknown word" in response to the reset-nvram instruction; if that happens, try init-nvram instead.

    Ok
my setting for my mail accounts are the same on my mbp and my 4S
How come when I sync, the settings on the 4s changes ?

It sounds like you might have two Apple IDs (maybe one for @me and one for iTunes with a different email?). Log out of iCloud and log in using your @me address that you already have.

  • Mobile Sync and Language Settings

Every one in our houshold uses mobile accounts on a few computers. No matter which computer you take, you can login with your server account. These are not network accounts, but mobile accounts with portable home directories (PHD) (so you can take the macbook with you) and they are synchronized with the server. My kids use the Dutch langauge for their OS interface. I manage everyone's preferences for mobility.
I found out the following: if you (for instance) add ~/Music to the skip list for home sync (so it all stays on one system), it turns out it does not work. I have to type that as ~/Muziek (Dutch word for Music). Hence: if a user of mine changes language settings he or she circumvents the managed preferences on this point. I find this completely unexpected. I would have thought that this would have been implemented at the unix level.
Ugh. I can understand the difficulties involved (e.g. translating a regex from one language to another is a no-go), but at least the language setting could have been well integrated with managing settings.
At least I would like to set the language for a user then, so I can control which interface language is used (and adapt the PHD rules accordingly). But I haven't been able to find a setting for that. Probably I have to set it once and after that manage acces too language in System Preferences? Is there a better way?

I always like to back things up to an external hard drive though. Get a western digital external 1tb hard drive for 50 bucks online. Great thing to have. You can store all music and movies on there and free up that space on your computer so it runs smoother

  • How do I transfer my MacBook Air to my wife so she can sync her iTunes account and other settings with her iPad Mini?

How do I transfer my MacBook Air to my wife so she can sync her iTunes account and other settings with her iPad Mini?

You can change the account shortname to whatever you wish to use.
As you can see from my example above. Once you click on the Create User button a new account will be created.
She will need to get her own Apple ID setup so when she starts with iTunes she can open her own iTunes account unless you both want to share the use of the same Apple ID. This can create a bit of confusion if you have your own iPads or iPhones or iPods. As you have discovered it's pretty much one iDevice with one Apple ID.
As for the iTunes library that becomes a more complicated issue.

  • I'm going to be using a borrowed computer, so don't want to make permanent changes to that FF. Is there a way to sync the FF settings and keep them on a thumb drive for temporary use?

Is there a way to sync the FF settings and keep them on a thumb drive for temporary use? I know you can try to copy the "default" folder in .mozilla, but that usually ends up a mess. The home computer runs on Linux, don't know what the borrowed one will be.

There's Portable Firefox for Windows - http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable - and another for Macs - http://www.freesmug.org/portableapps/firefox/ - not for Linux, AFAIK.
Firefox Sync works thru a server, either Mozilla's sync server or a local sync server the user has running on their own LAN. There's no way to sync the data to a thumb drive unless it has a version of Firefox on that thumb drive.
You didn't mention which "settings" are involved, but you can export your Firefox bookmarks in HTML format to a thumb drive, and view that bookmarks.html file on any web browser on just about any operating system.
Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks ''(or Organize Bookmarks for 3.6 and earlier versions)''-> Import & Backup - Export HTML...
For your other personal data in Firefox, there is no real solution outside of using Firefox.

You may want to look under date & time and set the clock from the internet.  At least you will have the correct time after a while.

  • Trouble with clock and date settings

    Hi Folks,
Every time I start my G5 I get a message telling me to set the clock and date settings. I set them as requested and save them and put the little lock on them, but next time I start the computer the same message appears.
Would anybody be able to assist please?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eddie

You might need a new battery. Go to http://support.apple.com/manuals/ and find your exact model - the manual should show you where it's located and which type you need to buy. They're not expensive.

  • Error: 0271: Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time settings.

    Hello all,
I have lenovo T430s laptop that is configured with Bitlocker encruptions and TPM PIN entry. I don't think that has anything to do with the error msg I am getting but here it is. Error: 0271: Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time settings.
Press Esc to continue or F1 to enter setup. I am unable to get into BIOS or even the login screen for Windows 7.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks to everyone for the help.  Just want to close this out.  I had a IBM/Lenovo technician here today and he replaced the CMOS battery.  Upon the change, the computer is fine being reconnected to the dock (the three times I tried it).  So it has been resolved with the battery.  Surprised by the incompatibility claim because I am not having issues now.  Wondering if it's just a USB 2.0 vs. 3.0 thing (and Lenovo trying to sell more peripherals, of course).
    Thanks!

It all depends on the definition of "factory unlocked". If the phone was purchased directly from Apple and the receipt says "Unlocked" then updating or restoring it will leave it unlocked (Apple never uses the term "factory unlocked" as there is no such thing; phones are unlocked at activation time). Similarly, if it had been locked to a carrier and the carrier authorized it to be unlocked, and you went through the unlocking steps they provided, it is permanently unlocked.
Unfortunately, a lot of the phones sold as "factory unlocked" were actually unlocked by hacking in the "factory" in the basement of some shop somewhere. These phones at best will become locked to the original carrier if restored, and in the worst case will be permanently disabled if restored.

  • ICloud syncing Weather and Stocks settings

We are a family with multiple iPhones and have all upgraded to iOS5 and iCloud syncing. We have come across one odd thing, our phones now have a combination of the Stocks and Weather settings from all the phones. How can we de-couple these as we like having our individual settings?

Hi All, this worked for me.
In your iPhone/iPad, go to Settings > Privacy > Calendars ... check which Apps are accessing your Calendar - for e.g. if you use an AccuWeather app, when you first installed it, it would have asked for access to your Calendar ... if the the button is switched to "On" ... the weather app will post the temperatures (Min/Max) of the day in your Calendar.
    - As the data appears in your Calendar, it's likely going to be replicated to everyone else's Calendar that you share an iCloud account with.
    > Switching off the button in the Weather app, no temperatures appear in my Calendar.
    - Do the same with the Stock app, switch the button to "Off", so it cannot access your Calendar/Contacts.
    > In your iPhone/iPad, go to Settings > Privacy > Contacts ... check which Apps are accessing your Contacts ... turn off the ones you do no want the data fed into your Contacts.
    Hope that helps.

  • Cannot adjust bass and treble settings.

I just installed the SoundBlaster Li've 24-bit sound card specifically so I could adjust the bass and treble settings under Advanced Options in speaker settings for a new job, but the bass and treble settings are greyed out. Can you tell me why this is? I have Windows XP.
    Thanks,
    Danielle

I'm having the same problem -- I also have Win XP Home. So I'll be interested to hear of any suggestions for fixing this issue. Also, when I try to record voice using Windows Sound Recorder and play it back, the sound volume is very low and poor quality (yes the mic volume is turned up).

You have no choice but to restore the iPod. You can restore from backup if y have one.
    To restore from backup see:
