Syncing Apple mail folders between macs??

I would like to be able to sync the folders in the ON MY MAC section of Apple Mail on my MacBook with the Apple Mail on my iMac.
Is there a way to get iCloud to sync the changes made to these folders so they reflect new and deleted messages?

You must place the "On My Mac" mailboxes on the server for the mailboxes and messages within to be available via iCloud webmail access and with the Mail.app on each Mac.
Select and drag an "On My Mac" mailbox under the iCloud section in the Mail.app mailboxes drawer to copy the mailbox and messages within to the server.

When I perform a sync, why don't all the mailbox folders that have been created on my computer also appear on .Mac mail and iPhone mail? Shouldn't they all match exactly?

The sync process just transfers the mail settings, it is there just to help set up the email account on your phone so that you do not have to type your account name and password and the incoming and outgoing server if necessary

  • Can I use iCloud to sync my Logic folders between Macs?

So, I'm looking for a way to keep my MacBook and iMac in sync with regards to Logic (Pro 9 - downloaded). I figure I want the following folders on a two-way sync:
    1) Application Support/Logic
    2) Application Support/GarageBand
    3) Audio/Apple Loops
    4) Audio/Impluse Responses
    5) My Logc folder in my Music folder
Have been looking at iCloud recently but don't know if it'll do this. If not, know of any any decent software for this?
    Thanks.

WorldOfWires is probably referring to the audio content found in their home folder, not the factory content.

Hopefully iCloud functionality will be added in the future.
Currently I'm using ChronoSync to sync my ~/Library/Audio folders across machines.

  • Is it possible to sync my mail folders/boxes between Mac mail and iPhone?

Is it possible to sync my mail folders/boxes between Mac mail and iPhone? ie. I get an email on my iphone but I also read it and store it On My Mac folders.  Is there a way this can be set up 'same' on my iphone...then I would only need to read my mail one place? Same as my iPad...I'm tired of doing the same step 3 times ONLY because my folders are only on my MAC

IMAP is a mail protocol. Your email provider must support it (most regular ISPs do not). If your mail provider supports IMAP then when you create an account on the iPhone choose "IMAP" when prompted. You cannot convert a POP3 account to IMAP; you must delete it and re-create it. But first check to see if your provider supports it. Microsoft Exchange works similarly to IMAP, but has the added feature of "pushing" mail to your phone within seconds of it being received.
With IMAP and Exchange the master copy of all mail remains on the server until deleted. Your computer(s) and iPhone sync with the server, so all of your devices will show the same messages. When you delete from one the message will be removed from all with the next sync (or immediately for Exchange).

  • How can I sync Mail database between MAC computers without using IMAP

All, I know this has been asked several times in several forums but I wish to ask it again with a slight twist. The normal question is can I sync  Apple mail database (folders) between two MAC computers. The answer is always use IMAP, but unfortunately IMAP is limited on space to store historical emails. I keep mailboxes (on_my_mac) with thousands of emails and attachments that take up a massive amount of space, well beyond any IMAP server allowances. I keep these in order to search conversations that span over many months and sometimes years.
I use GoodSync to sync my normal folders from my MAC Book Pro and my Mac Pro desktop so that I can have the same information (in real time) when working from home on my big machine or at the office using the laptop. This is great except I can not sync the email. I use Outlook 2011 but would prefer to use apple mail if I can sync the two computers (Sync'ing Outlook 2011 is even more impossible).
I also do not want to start and stop my email clients to make this happen and worry about which MAC is running mail and what direction to copy the entire folder structure just to have to follow that up with a new re-build of the index.
Has anyone came up with a viable solution this this problem. Also keep in mind the amount of data - Cloud based solutions are dependent on Internet connection speed (days of initial transfer time and hours to sync) and if I am on my laptop without internet connection, say on an airplane, I would be out of luck so I need the information local on each computer.
Hopefully someone has some ideas, or maybe Apple can take a request for enhancement to Mail to support syncing multiple computers.

I assume that this is a POP system then.
There is no reliable method of syncing the Mail database between 2 Macs. Just how many Gigabytes of Mail do you have?

  • How sync mail accounts between Mac and iPhone!!

    Hi,
May a trivial and stupid question but never found an answer!
How easily sync mail account information (preferences of each mail account) between mac's (Mac Mini and Mac Book Pro) and iPhone?
Sorry to say that but it's so easy in Windows!! Just check the option box in itunes!!
For now, I use iCloud, define to sync mail and connected with same account on all my mac and iPhone ... nothing happened!
Oh yes, sorry, I have three accounts out of 13 who appear!!! But WHY?
I red somewhere that the account information (password) must be saved in keychain ... ok ... but how do I change that for all account?
I tried to remove one and recreate ... no success ... doesn't appear.
Why is it so complicated to have that working as the Mac is so user-friendly?
I also try a search on Apple site ... no explanation!
Some one with a clear and simple "How To" to share?
    MANY THANKS!
    Pierre

  • Syncing Pop Mail across two Macs

How can I sync my POP Apple mail folders on my work computer (Macbook Pro) and Macbook Air? I need to be able to read and download them on both computers but make sure the messages I've downloaded are on both computers. I can't switch to an IMAP account as I have 20,000 downloaded emails organized in folders that I need access to. Thank you for any help!

If you want to stay with POP rather than IMAP, make sure your mail account is set up to NOT remove messages from the server (Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Advanced).
Then, set up your account to automatically BCC yourself on messages you send. (Mail>Preferences>Composing).
Now all messages you receive and send will be available from either machine.
Another alternative is to periodically simply copy the whole Mail folder (<home>/Library/Mail) from one machine to the other.
This is what I do, in fact. I use the iMac as my main computer and made an Automator workflow app to copy Mail, Calendar, and Address Book files and selected Documents folders to my MBA. It's not elegant perhaps, but it works for me.

  • Using iCloud for Apple Mail on different macs

    Hello,
Is there a way to setup iCloud as the storage for my Apple Mail folders? I'd like to use the same mail folders on different macs.
Would they be available offline (as would be with imap email synchronization)?
    Thanks in advance,
    Francis

And if there's no iCloud folder nor entry in the Mailbox List window what should I do?
I do see a heading for MobileMe and GoogleMail, but nothing for iCloud.
Your computer's OS is too old for iCloud, 10.7.2 is the minimum and you have something in the 10.6's (I would guess)
    or
You have a compatible computer but never set iCloud up.
    Which is it?

  • Is it advisable to MOVE contents of "Users/~/Library/Mail/V2" in the Finder instead of from within Apple Mail "ON MY MAC" left pane?

Is it advisable to MOVE some folders/mailboxes within "Users/~/Library/Mail/V2" by drag and drop in the Finder instead of moving them from within the Apple Mail "ON MY MAC" left pane?
Any drawback or problem or danger about it? In case of doing it, should I do it with Apple Mail open or closed?

Notes on my Iphone 4S sync to Mail on my Mac but not on my Ipad

    Hello,
I simply ran iTunes, went to my iPad settings, Infos, then Synchronised mail accounts.

Notes on the web interface of iCloud, in the Notes application on the iMac and on my iPhone and iPad are synchronised.

  • When exporting and then importing Apple Mail from one mac to another I get "Some messages could not be imported. Partially imported mailbox will be labeled IMPORT" . That mailbox does not appear.

When exporting and then importing Apple Mail from one mac to another I get "Some messages could not be imported. Partially imported mailbox will be labeled IMPORT" . That mailbox does not appear.
    Any help would be welcome

This is a bug in Mail. The mailbox archiving function does not include attachments, which  gives the error with the import. To workaround this you can create a mailbox in Mail and copy to it all emails you want to export. Then go in Finder to [user]/Library/Mail/Mailboxes en select the created mailbox. Copy this to the public directory of your other mac. Then start Mail on that other mac and import the mailbox from the public directory. Should work now.

You may get an answer here at the Mountain Lion discussion, but I'd suggest Lion folks are more likely hanging out at the Lion discussion page:

A little more info would be helpful- when did this start, ever able to send in a timely manner, etc.

  • Syncing Mail Notifications Between Mac and iPhone

    Hi
I been having this problem with the mail notifications not syncing between the Mail.app on my MacBook Pro and iPhone. Let me explain:
When I get a new email, I hear the sound and see the red notification icon appear on both the MacBook and the iphone. When it comes to checking the new email, here are the two possible scenarios:
    a) If I check the new email on my phone, the red notification icon disappears from BOTH the iphone and the MacBook.
    b) If I check the new email on my MacBook, the red notification disappears from the MacBook but DOESN'T disappears from the iPhone (that is until I open the app). This happens with both cases, when the app is "running" in the background or when it is complety closed.
I don't know if I am crazy but I am pretty sure that both of the notifications used to disappear before, no matter where I checked the mail.
I tried deleting and creating the email again on my phone, and it didn't work.
Here some info that could help find a solution:
    - I'm using icloud email (@me.com)
    MacBook
    -Mountain Lion
    iPhone:
    - iOS 6 (this problem started before the upgrade)
    - Push is on.
    - Fetch (that suppodselly would be used only if push is off) is set to Manually.
    - On the "Advanced" sub-menu inside the Mail settings, Push is also selected.
Hopefully this can actually be fix and I can prove myself that I was not crazy!!
Thanks in advance for the help!!

Anyone find a fix for this problem? I've been waiting for this since notification syncing was announced a couple years ago with iOS 6. I use iCloud for my email and find it very frustrating that when I read an email on my Mac or on iCoud.com that it doesn't automatically dismiss the notifications for those emails on my iOS devices until I open the mail app on each iOS device. Notification syncing works great with other apps. With iMessages, for example, when I read a message on my Mac running Yosemite, the notifications disappear on my iOS devices without opening the messages app (badge app icon, home screen notifications and notification center). Why can't they figure this out with email? I remember at my old job, I had an exchange account that properly synced mail notifications between devices, but it has never worked with my iCloud email. I wonder if I am just missing a particular setting or if Apple just blew it here. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
