Syncing apps between to iphones on the same itunes account

My wife and I both own iphones (3G and 3GS). We sync them in itunes using the same account, which works great for the most part. However, if she installs an app on her iphone and then syncs it with the mac, those apps are then installed on my iphone the next time I sync with the mac. I would prefer to select which apps are on my phone. Same thing goes for her. Any apps I install on my iphone are automatically installed on her iphone. Any input would be appreciated.

That's the way it works. You just need to uncheck them in the list on the Applications tab, then click Sync one more time.

its been over year now and the iPad 2 is out, its apparently evident that when something goes wrong no one response here with a solution, can you or can you not sync both a iPad and iPhone with the same iTunes account flawlessly yet, because i helped over 4 people to do this and every single method seems to be work arounds.

You have always been able to sync as many devices as you like to one account/library/computer.
Plug in one device, select what you want to sync, then sync.
Unplug that device.
Plug in the other device, select what you want to sync, then sync.

Not really. And it's not that difficult at all.
Plug it in, select it and select what you want to sync.

You can do it this way but it's a lot more work.
(Apple reps are just people like you and me and don't always know everything)

I would not recommend this especially if syncing more than one device.
Create a playlist (or multiple) for each device.
Select the music tab and sync only the playlists you want. Then add/delete from these playlists to add/remove from the iPhone.

Has anyone been successful in syncing two iPhones to the same iTunes account. I am the main user of our Mac and my wife just uses it for email and internet browsing. Basically she uses my user account and therefore we share one contacts list, one calendar, one iTunes, and both use the same Mac Mail with our own email addresses. Both also want to use MobileMe.

Yes.. It is a very difficult process.. First, log into 1 computer with your account and Authorize that computer to use the iPhone. then Sync your phone.. Log out and go to the second computer.. login and Authorize then sync your phone.

As Ocean20 indicates, you want to make sure that you have automatic syncing turned off. In iTunes Preferences under Devices, make sure you have "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically" checked. Then connect each iPhone, and make sure that "Manually Manage Music and Videos" is checked on the Info page for each of them. Then go into each page for each device, and select what you want to sync to that particular device. (you would do this one device at a time - complete the steps for one of the phones, then connect the next one and do the same thing).
With this kind of setup, you can modify what will sync at any given time for a particular device once you have connected it to iTunes, but before you click on the Sync button at the bottom of the screen. If you want to change some sync options on a particular device, you would just go into the page you wanted to change (Music, Photos, Apps, etc.), make your changes, and then Sync.
If you do not have any changes, you can just hook up the phone and click on Sync.

You can use the same apple id for two separate phoones to share apps/music, however you would need a separate apple id for both phone for imessage/facetime/icloud.

Your iPhone and iPod can share the same iTunes account. Apps can be freely shared and used by one or both devices. You can't use money in your iTunes account to pay for your phone, but purchased apps can be used by both the iPod and iPhone.

My fiancee and I are wanting to use both of our iPhones on the same iTunes account because she doesn't download music and I do. I can't for the life of me figure out how to make it so she has access to my account and I am scared I will mess something up and have to reset the phones. The phone calls going to other phones/iPads is a new feature described in Connect your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch using Continuity
You can turn it off by going to Settings > FaceTime and changing "iPhone Cellular Calls" to off.
