Syncing audio in volvo

I recently purchased a 2012 Volvo XC60.  When attempting to control and play music through the USB connection and the iPod function on the audio system, my iPhone 4S (version 5.1) continually switches the audio output to bluetooth.  That results in me still seeing the display for the music but losing the audio.  I can go to the music app on my iPhone and see that the audio output has been switched from 'dock connector' to 'My Volvo Car' and change it back to dock connector, restoring the audio but it only lasts for about 30 seconds until the phone overrides the setting and switches audio back to bluetooth.
I have tried every sequence to avoid this as far as connecting my iPhone via USB only after the bluetooth connection is already established, starting the vehicle with my iPhone already connected and phone off at the time of start up and everything in between that you could imagine to no avail.  I understand that there is a 'last connection wins' configuration with the iPhone but this does not make any sense as my audio connection is not maintained through USB even when I make that connection after establishing bluetooth connectivity.  To make matters more bizarre, my wife's iPhone 4 does not have the same issue as I experience with the 4S.  We are both running the most current operating system software.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

BC1107,
I am still searching for an answer.  I have received the tech notes from Volvo and tried every potential sequence of connecting the devices and even manually changing the output on the iPhone but to no avail.  I have copied in the Volvo tech notes on the issue below.  As I mentioned, this is still not helping my situation.  I found one post suggesting that I have my Sensus software updated by the dealer.  My vehicle is less than two months old but I am going to give that a try since it is basically my last resort at this point.  I am just waiting for either Volvo or Apple to break down and fix this with an upcoming version release.  It is insane to me that Volvo points the finger at Apple as if there product should not be designed to work with the most popular phone on the market.  Good luck and keep me posted.
DESCRIPTION:
Statement: The iPhone is using a media connection strategy called "last connection wins". In short this means that the media connection that is established last is the preferred connection.
With the previous statement in mind, when a customer has connected (paired) an iPhone to the Sensus system and is using the bluetooth hands free function, it is natural for the iPhone to use the bluetooth streaming function also, as there already is a bluetooth connection to the car.
But if the customer wants to listen to music or audio books and at the same time recharge the iPhone, the customer can connect the iPhone to the USB connector in the vehicle with a Dock Connector to USB cable (USB connection is not available in cars with audio system Base performance). Depending on connection sequence, the iPhone will behave in different ways.
Essentially everything comes down to when the USB cable is connected to the USB connector in the vehicle, before or after the hands free connection has been established.
NOTE: When connecting the iPhone to the vehicle USB connector the music player in the iPhone is not accessible. The music menu is only accessible through the iPod function in the vehicle HMI (Human Machine Interface).
Symptom 1.
If the customer has the iPod function selected in the Sensus system when the ignition is turned off and connects the iPhone before the ignition is switched on, the iPhone will switch from dock connector to bluetooth streaming when the hands free connection is established. This may be perceived, by the customer, as "the sound disappears" and "no sound can be heard from the speakers after start up". The information regarding song, artist and track time can still be seen in the ICM display.
Explanation symptom 1.
What actually happens is that the iPhone has switched to bluetooth streaming when it establishes the hands free connection to the vehicle. In these cases the customer must select the preferred output manually according to Connection sequence 1 below. When this is done the sound will return. Or the customer could also in this case choose to switch to Bluetooth steaming by pushing the Media button repeatedly or by pushing the Media button and then turning the Tune knob and then selecting OK for Bluetooth. When switching to bluetooth streaming function the music could be in pause mode. For reference see TJ25640_Output.pdf, picture 9. By pushing the On/Off button to mute and then again to un mute the music will continue playing, but now through bluetooth streaming.
Symptom 2.
If the customer has the Bluetooth streaming function selected in the Sensus system when the ignition is turned off it will be selected again when the ignition is switched on.
If the customer connects the iPhone through USB cable after the hands free connection has been established, the iPhone will switch from bluetooth streaming to Dock Connector when the USB connection is established. This may be perceived, by the customer, as "the sound disappears" and "no sound can be heard from the speakers". The information regarding song, artist and track time may still be seen in the ICM display.
Explanation symptom 2.
What actually happens is that the iPhone has switched output to Dock Connector when it establishes the USB connection to the vehicle. In these cases the customer must select the preferred output according to Connection sequence 2 below. When this is done the sound will return. The customer could in this case also choose to switch to the iPod function by pushing the Media button repeatedly or by pushing the Media button and then turning the Tune knob and then selecting OK for iPod. The music will continue playing, but now through the iPod function.
Connection sequence 1.
If the customer connects the iPhone via USB cable, before ignition on, the preferred sound output will be bluetooth streaming. This is because the USB connection is established much faster than the bluetooth connection. The hands free function will be established after the USB connection and this makes the bluetooth connection the last connection and also the preferred connection.
What function should be used in the vehicle?
If the customer always connects the iPhone in this sequence the customer should select the Bluetooth function in the vehicle. For reference see document TJ25640_Output.pdf, picture 7.
If the customer wants to use the iPod function in the vehicle, the customer has to manually change the preferred output on the iPhone by touching the Airplay icon on the iPhone and selecting Dock Connector in the displayed pop-up. For reference see document TJ25640_Output.pdf, picture 1-3 to see how its done.
Connection sequence 2.
If the customer connects the iPhone via USB cable, after ignition on, and after the hands free connection has been established the preferred sound output will be the Dock Connection.
What Function should be used in the vehicle?
If the customer always connects the iPhone in this sequence the customer should select the iPod function in the vehicle. For reference see document TJ25640_Output.pdf, picture 8.
If the customer wants to use the bluetooth streaming function in the vehicle, the customer has to manually change the preferred output on the iPhone by touching the Airplay icon on the iPhone and selecting My Volvo Car in the displayed pop-up. For reference see document TJ25640_Output.pdf, picture 4-6 to see how its done.
Connection sequence 3
If the customer connects the iPhone via USB cable, after ignition on, but before the hands free connection has been established the preferred sound output will be the bluetooth streaming. This is because the USB connection is established before the hands free function and this makes the bluetooth connection the last connection and also the preferred connection.
NOTE: The Bluetooth hands free function is not affected by a connected iPhone to the USB connection in the vehicle. The hands free function uses a different profile to connect to the vehicle therefore it will work independently of the function used for music/audio books.
PRODUCT MODIFICATION:
There will be no product modification from Volvo as the function depends on connection sequence and the iPhone connection strategy.

"Error while trying to sync Audio and Midi" I have been having this problem now and then for some time. Now, I can't run any audio files without a lot of popping. I tried all the suggestions on the support document for this issue. I even downloaded new drivers from Motu for my Express XT Midi interface and my 828MK11 Audio interface. There has been no change. HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!
Also, I have tried reseting the 828 to factory default and that does not help.

    Hi,
I solved my own problem by resetting the factory presets:
Follow these steps to restore the MOTU 828mkII to Factory Default Settings.
Disconnect the firewire cable from the 828mkII
    Press the Setup knob
Turn the Setup knob all the way to the right
    Press the Select knob
    Press the Value knob
Power off the interface and plug the firewire cable back in
    Power the interface back on
The same steps can be followed to restore the Factory Default Settings on a Traveler.

  • Error: sync audio & midi

    Hi,
I've searched the forum and it seems that a lot of people are having this problem - although I haven't found a solution.
I am getting the following error message:
"Error while trying to sync audio and midi. Sample rate 42572 recognized. Check conflict between logic express and external devices".
    Here's what I'm using:
    Intel MacBook Pro, OS 10.4.8
    M-audio Midiman 2x2
    Old Yamaha Clavinova controller
When I was using a powerPC iMac, everything was fine. Now that I'm using this macbook pro (intel), I'm having this error come up every 5 seconds during playback and recording.
What can I do? Is this an Intel compatibility problem or is there something else going on?
    Thanks!

    Yes. I've increased buffer sizes...
I copied the file over to my power PC mac and everything is working fine. I have a feeling it's just a compatibility issue with using a power pc program on an intel mac.
I will try downloading the intel update. If anyone else has any other suggestions, please suggest!
    Thanks!

  • Quicktime Export causing Out of Sync Audio?

I'm trying to export a self contained Quicktime movie from my timeline, and every time I try, the audio ends up being out of sync. What am I doing wrong?
The audio is set to just the defaults, 16 bit, 48khz.
    Sequence settings: HDV1080p30
When I bring the final exported movie back into FCP, it plays out of sync.
Exporting through the Share feature to bluRay resulted in perfect sync audio, so I'm at a loss as to why this isn't working.
    Please help!

Allright, since nobody out there seems to have the answer - I'm going to share what I discovered so that the next person will actually get an answer without having to spend hours and hours finding it in other forums. Here goes:
Problem: Audio plays in sync on the timeline, an export from the timeline through Share to bluRay results in correctly synced audio; but a Quicktime Export with current settings results in a final movie where audio is out of sync with the video.
Solutions: I found two solutions to this problem:
1- When exporting to Quicktime Movie, check "recompress all frames". This solution had mixed reviews, with lots of people saying you should never do this, as it will reduce the quality of your final output; while others said the reduction in quality was not noticeable to the naked eye. I guess you can try it and be the judge.
2- In your sequence settings, change the compression setting to Apple Pro Res. This is the setting I decided to go with, as I'm currently awaiting the 10 hour render.
I did do a quick and dirty test on the ProRes option, where it appeared to work. Since the audio is correctly synced in the beginning of the video and then slowly falls out of sync (obviously the 30p to 29.97 problem), I had to run a test using my entire sequence. If you run a test on a 2 minute sequence, it will appear to be correct, because it is a slow falling out of sync issue - the problems occur later in your project (just fyi). Here is what I did (in case you want to try it on your project):
I created a new sequence and then changed the compression setting from HDV1080-30p to Apple Pro Res 422. I dragged my sequences into this sequence (so they were nested). I unlinked the audio and then selected about a 20 second area from about 3/4 of the way through the project. I sliced this section and then removed all the video before and after (so it would speed up render time and only render black, but I would still be able to see if the audio synced up later - I hope that makes sense - this made my export time only 12 minutes). After it exported, I reimported the movie, found the little 20 second area, and it was correctly synced. So, now I am exporting the whole thing. I sincerely hope this works. I don't have lots of 10 hour blocks just lyin' around!
Since my audio issue was most likely due to the fact that I captured and edited in 1080 30p, I believe it must be a bug in FCP that exports the Quicktime movie in 29.97 regardless of whatever your sequence settings are (believe me, I tried to change it to 1080-30p and it didn't work). That is why I think the Apple Pro Res option works, but it involves a total re-render of your project. This is also why I believe it plays fine in the timeline, because my timeline was set to 30p. Again, I also believe that is why my export to BluRay through Share resulted in correctly synced audio - the bluRay export I believe uses the Pro Res codec (which, by the way, took 19 hours).
Wish Apple would fix this bug.

  • Dropped frames or out-of-sync audio

Using Sony HDR-FX1 and FCE-HD is set to DV-NTSC. I've also tried DV-NTSC Firewire Basic. I've been trying various suggestions I've found in the Discussions to cure dropped frames that prevent me from capturing and out-of-sync audio making footage I do capture useless. Mac is running 10.4 with 5.5 GB of RAM and dual 2 GHz G5.
I'm capturing to my main hard drive which has plenty of space - when I'm done editing, I archive old footage on an external drive.
"Abort capture on dropped frames" is currently checked. Lately, this means I can't get more than a few seconds without the capture stopping. This never used to happen, now it happens all the time no matter what tapes I'm capturing from.
If I uncheck it, the audio on the captured footage is out of sync. Over time, as I've been trying to trouble shoot this using the Discussions, my projects remain unfinished and deadlines are looming sooner and sooner.
If someonce could please help me I'd be very grateful.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Did you shoot in DV or HDV ?
Did you try to capture HDV with Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 (or 50 for europe)?
Does you downconvert HDV shooted to DV upon capturing from camcorder ?
DV-NTSC 48 kHz is the way to go with downconverted material.
Does your DV audio setting is 16 bit on FX1 ? (HDV is a fixed one).

  • Audio/video out of sync (audio delay) with PowerBeats wireless earphones.

I am having a problem with audio/video sync between my  PowerBeats Wireless earphones with my MacPro and MacBookPro. I have tried pairing, playing the video, pausing the video, turning off the PowerBeats, tuning the PowerBeats on, then starting the video playback again. I have the same audio delay so this not working for me. Anyone have an update as to how to fix this audio/video sync problem?

I am playing MPEG-4 movie files. I did open MPlayerX from my dock, then pulled down File to select Open which then did show the folder where these movie files are stored.  Then I was able to select a movie file, open it, and use "Decrease Audio Delay" to closely sync the audio with the video. I say closely because it is not perfect. Rather than stepping each increase or decrease in one tenth of a second, perhaps a finer adjustment would have been in milliseconds. This is the adjustment that I have with my AVR to sync the audio with the video, so I know this is a possible increment adjustment. The perfect adjustment was in between -0.4 and -0.5 second, however, this was not possible in one tenth second adjustments. The closest adjustment was with -0.4 second rather than with -0.5 second. So, adjustments in milliseconds could have been very near a perfect sync. Perhaps later versions of MPlayer will offer the adjustment selection in milliseconds. Nevertheless, this is working much, much better than before. Thank you so much. I have spent most of this day researching this problem and you have come up with by far the best solution. This problem goes all the way back to 2010 and possibly beyond for Apple products. There are hundreds of reports documenting out of sync audio/video issues with no solution that works as well as MPlayerX. Even the Beats support staff have no idea of how to resolve the audio/video out of sync.

  • Out of sync audio markers

Why there are not out of sync audio warnings in final cut x?

Not sure this is the best place to ask questions about why 'features' are not in the application, but to give you a genral answer from the manual about what I assume you are pondering:
By default, Final Cut Pro imports audio and video from the same source into one clip. You can easily detach the audio from a video clip so that you can edit the audio clip separately in the Timeline.
This means that unless you detached the audio yourself, the clip is treated as one source. If you detach it, you are own your own.
If you are wanting to request a feature of some sort for Final Cut Pro X, try this Feedback Form.
    Best of Luck!

  • Out of sync audio six channels

    Dear All,
I have not had a problem with this before, but suddenly I have out-of-sync audio when mixing six channels in FCP. Using my Canon XL1-S, I recorded 4 channels of audio in 12 bit mode, 32 khz. I then added another two channels of audio from a separate Sony digital recorder into the FCP edit. First I set the sequence settings to 32khz and ran everything in 32 bit mode, converting all of the audio through Quicktime pro. The 4 channels from the Canon XL1-s are in perfect sync, but the two channels from the Sony digital are playing at a faster speed and are drifting as the movie progresses...the length is 1:25:00. I then went back and converted everything to 48khz and changed the Sequence settings accordingly, but the Sony audio is still drifting and playing more slowly than the other two channels. What am I doing wrong and how can I bring all of the audio together? Thanks. I'm working with FCP 6.0.6 on a Mac Pro with Snow Leopard 10.6.6. Barbara Smits

What is the format of these Sony files?
. . . the Sony audio is still drifting and playing more slowly than the other two channels.
Unless you are timecode locked between devices, it seems reasonable to me that there will be sync drift if the Sony external recorder is not locked to the video signal.
You might try selecting the Sony audio clips on the timeline and adjusting the speed slightly, such as 101% and see if that gets you closer to sync.
    Hope this helps

  • Syncing Audio and Video but wish for the Audio not to move on timeline?

Has anyone worked out how to sync audio and video within Premiere Pro but have the Audio stay fixed on the timeline and the video move? Every way I try it Premiere Pro insists on moving the audio. Locking the track does not work as you cannot select the audio within it to Sync with.
I have a music video shoot with 14 camera angles used on the lead singer (don't ask me why). Multi-camera editing is not an option as there are too many sources for my brand new MacbookPro to handle. I think I would need the computer from Superman II to edit that many clips together.
What I am doing is syncing the first clip, the one Im going to use as the baseline fall back shot and then I need to sync other clips onto the timeline. However Premiere Pro insists on moving the audio to fit with the video not visa-versa.
    Any help would be appreciated.

@slitchfield: on the mentioned page, it is stated that "Improvements in screen real estate, with slimmer top status bar and optional (in some apps) bottom toolbar, meaning that all phones will have a larger useful display area."
But on the E6 the bottom toolbar decreases available screen size in most apps, most noticeable in Web browser where the full view has gone. The bottom toolbar is not optional, you can't configure it yourself.
And: "Homescreen widgets will now come in up to five different sizes (1x1, 2x1, 4x1, 2x2, 4x4) and allow a greater degree of interactivity.", but on the E6 they are in only one size, always with large borders and other visual effects.
So beware of differences between phones, perhaps some aspects of Belle work differently depending on the type of device.
"Notes now brings up a white (and AMOLED-unfriendly...) editing screen.": that you can change by switching themes, "Dark Solid for Anna" does a good job. It is a shame that the lines of Notes have gone though.
When switching themes, I found you have to restart the phone, otherwise the theme doesn't get properly loaded in all apps. Stopping/starting apps is not enough. So when experimenting and loading one theme after another, you may end up with disfunctional combinations of black-on-black and white-on-white, but it may not be due to the last theme. Also you may end up with a good combination that isn't around anymore the next time you restart your phone.

  • Combined Multiple Synced Audio Into One Element

I recorded audio with a mixer that creates 2 separate channels, then recorded audio via a lav to an ipod. I bring them into Premiere and sync them with PluralEyes. I want to then keep these items in sync and have PluralEyes sync this to video. However when I send back to pluraleyes even if I group or link audio files, PE still attempts to resync the audio. Because there is a lot of clips this leads to issues. How can I keep these in sync, merge multiple tracks into 1 synced audio element in Premiere? Thanks!

This might be a question better asked of Red Giant, who makes the PluralEyes software.

  • Can you sync audio automatically?

I thought I saw somewhere that Premiere CS6 would automatically sync audio. ie from a zoom to 5D footage?  Or do you have to use plural eyes?

PP can sync if both clips have the same timecode.  Otherwise you'll need outside tools.
