Syncing audio with video shot at 23.97fps

I recently shot a series of interviews on a Canon 7D. We shot the video at 23.98fps and recorded audio on a TASCAM DR-100, the audio format was 16bit interger 48kHz. I have tried syncing the audio and video in final cut, it starts out ok, but begins to lose sync with clips that last over a couple of minutes.
Is there a way to convert the audio files to remain synced throughout?
Please help...

This may not be satisfactory but it usually works.
Assuming the audio and video clips are started on a clapper, find the exact length of your video clip. Write that down.
Open Speed Adjust on the audio clip and enter the time you wrote down. Render and then link.
If you do this for each clip in a separate sequence you can export the properly synced clips as self-contained media.
Hope you get it sorted, there is probably an easier and much more efficient way to do this. Back when I was shooting film, the speed of the tape deck sometimes drifted (because the producer was too cheap to get a crystal locked deck or Nagra). We'd spend many frustrating hours syncing by inserting cutaways and tiny chips of blank tape.

Sync audio with video rate

i have captured video/audio through the deck that I have and it's rate is 48KHZ 16BIT and I have a audio file that is from the actual microphone. I want to sync these 2, but I can't seem to find the right way.
i've tried exporting the audio file in 48KHZ 16BIT and 24BIT and nothing, its still not synced. I don't know how else to do this. can someone please help me?

ok heres what i do... we have a youth tv show where this guy talks. we record the video from a canon AXH1. The audio is recorded from the camera but we do not use that audio. The audio from the mic he speaks on is recorded on a laptop using some audio program our audio guy uses. So what i do is align up the audio from the mic/laptop file with the audio from the camera so its synced....does that make sense?

Syncing Audio with video

I have a short sequence of clips where I deleted my video, leaving my audio.
Now I want to bring back the video for each clip.

So I am looking for the in and out points of the audio clips so I can match them up with the orginal video clip.
When I look at properties on the audio clip it just gives me duration of the clip.
When I hover over the audio clip it just gives me in and out points based on where the clip is at the point in the timeline.
What can I bring up that will let me find the ins and outs of the audio clips so that I can match them up with the same in and outs of the video.
(I'm getting an inkling of how to do this as I write this question. But I'll let the others here make their suggestions in case there are various ways to do this, that would be helpful to all.)

Use Match Frame. Park the CTI at the beginning of the audio clip in the sequence, and make sure your audio tracks are targeted. Press the M key; this will load the original master clip into the Source Monitor cued to the frame you're trying to match. Mark an in point (I key), and then right-click the time ruler in the Source Monitor and select Go to Clip Marker > Audio Out. Mark an out point (O key). Drag just the video to your sequence, so that it matches your audio. Select video and audio, and Link the clips. Repeat.

Syncing audio and video with timecode

What is the best way to sync audio and video files from a one camera shoot on which the camera was jammed with timecode from the mixer? Is there a batch method? Is it best done with a third party application or within Premier?

The project is a 15 page short film shot over four days. Lots of dialogue.

Is "merge assets" different from "merge..."? I see the timecode option in "merge...".

Syncing External Audio with Video on iMovie

If syncing external audio with video on imovie, once successfully syncing the 2 is it possible to permanantly merge them so that I can continue trimming and rearranging clips without having to continue to re-sync the audio and video after every change I make?

In Final Cut Pro X, yes. In iMovie...no.
The workaround in iMovie is to sync your external audio to the video clip. Mute the audio on the video clip so all that is left is the good audio. Then use SHARE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. Choose Movie to QuickTime Movie and under Options choose Apple Intermediate Codec as the Video Codec.
Then save this clip in a place you can find it. Finally, import this new clip back into your event.

As you probably know by now, DVD camcorders are not compatible with FCE or pretty well any other DV based editing system.
Possibly the simplest (though not cheapest) route would be by using an Analogue-Digital converter.
Streamclip and other similar programs are supposed to work but I have had no experience with them.
In the long run probably the best (but costly) solution would be to buy a Mini-DV camcorder - it doesn't have to be a top of the range model - even the cheapest ones can produce high quality video. Then you would not have to mess around converting DVD files with the inevitable loss of quality it entails.
A cheap DV camera need be not much more expensive than an A/D converter.

Syncing Audio and Video but wish for the Audio not to move on timeline?

Has anyone worked out how to sync audio and video within Premiere Pro but have the Audio stay fixed on the timeline and the video move? Every way I try it Premiere Pro insists on moving the audio. Locking the track does not work as you cannot select the audio within it to Sync with.
I have a music video shoot with 14 camera angles used on the lead singer (don't ask me why). Multi-camera editing is not an option as there are too many sources for my brand new MacbookPro to handle. I think I would need the computer from Superman II to edit that many clips together.
What I am doing is syncing the first clip, the one Im going to use as the baseline fall back shot and then I need to sync other clips onto the timeline. However Premiere Pro insists on moving the audio to fit with the video not visa-versa.
Any help would be appreciated.

@slitchfield: on the mentioned page, it is stated that "Improvements in screen real estate, with slimmer top status bar and optional (in some apps) bottom toolbar, meaning that all phones will have a larger useful display area."
But on the E6 the bottom toolbar decreases available screen size in most apps, most noticeable in Web browser where the full view has gone. The bottom toolbar is not optional, you can't configure it yourself.
And: "Homescreen widgets will now come in up to five different sizes (1x1, 2x1, 4x1, 2x2, 4x4) and allow a greater degree of interactivity.", but on the E6 they are in only one size, always with large borders and other visual effects.
So beware of differences between phones, perhaps some aspects of Belle work differently depending on the type of device.
"Notes now brings up a white (and AMOLED-unfriendly...) editing screen.": that you can change by switching themes, "Dark Solid for Anna" does a good job. It is a shame that the lines of Notes have gone though.
When switching themes, I found you have to restart the phone, otherwise the theme doesn't get properly loaded in all apps. Stopping/starting apps is not enough. So when experimenting and loading one theme after another, you may end up with disfunctional combinations of black-on-black and white-on-white, but it may not be due to the last theme. Also you may end up with a good combination that isn't around anymore the next time you restart your phone.

Issue - syncing Audio and Video Clips

Hi Friends -
Definitely, I am newbie for - editing in this application (Adobe Premier CS6) .
My idea is to sync audio and video clip - 'based on clip markers' or 'based on Audio wave' .
But, in my machine, I dont see option to 'add clip markers' (in Marker Menu) for these clips, which are supposed to merge. And, coming 'based on Audio wave' - I dont even see those options, when I select (both clips to be merged) and choose merge.
Am I missing any setting - Do I need to have any additional plugins for that? Can anyone pls. help regarding that.

The audio option wasn't added until Premiere Pro CC.
You can set clip markers in the Source Monitor with the M key.

I can no longer recommend Firefox to viewers because of the severe problem I have been experiencing: No audio with video; navigation often does not work. Maybe this is purely a local problem. Note that there are a lot of popular extensions that can cause issues with videos not working apart from issues with the Flash plugin.

Error trying to sync audio with midi

I get this "Error trying to sync audio with midi" using my motu 828mk2 firewire sound card.
I have updated my osx to 10.5.2 and now i cant use my motu ... osx 10.5.2 has a firewire issue with the motu 828mk2 if any one else has the same problem with any make of audio devices please let me know, i cant seem to find a solution unless i go back to my old osx or buy another sound module, but i should not have to result in doing something like that when i have spent a **** lot of cash buying this in the first place, isnt motu and apple both big players in pro audio? why is it so un compatable, is it just me with this issue or is their a major blunder with apple or motu, it only seems to happen with osx 10.5.2 and nothing else with the same machine with diffrent installls, so apple get on to it and fix it as im sure its the new osx firewire kexts or something, its not motu as it works fine with everything else and the same machine with all os systems.....except osx 10.5.2.

Well, I thought this was fixed by changing the buffer size but it isn't. Still get the "Error trying to sync Audio with MIDI" error. Logic is detecting 44.1 kHz, I have Logic set for 96 kHz. The FireWire is set for 96 kHz, internal sync. Logic preferences are set for sync -> internal. Audio sync is set for "external or free" (I am not using a MTC source). I have downloaded and installed v1.8.4 from M-audio. I changed the IO buffer from 256 to 512.
I can't figure out what the magic is here. When I boot Logic, it syncs fine until I click on the "help" menu, the loses sync. Occasionally it comes back for no apparent reason. The system has no problem recognizing the 410 or bringing up the management interface.
Any sage words of advice?

Audio sync with audio and video shot separately

Using Final Cut Express, I am editing some old silent film footage (transferred to video) to a matching audio track that was recorded on a tape recorder. The camera that was used predates crystal sync, so what I have is picture with slightly varying speed throughout and audio with slightly varying speed throughout. This rules out the fit-to-fill type of solution where you get the beginning and end in sync and the middle should naturally fall into place.
What I have been doing is razoring the audio into 10-20 second chunks and applying a speed change to each chunk as I go to pull things back into sync. The speed changes are small enough (less than 1%) that there is no noticable pitch change. Each chunk gets a slightly different speed change to compensate as the camera and audio recorder motors wobbled about. (I'm effectively keyframing the audio speed changes).
All this works reasonably well, but I'd love to know if there was a better way to solve this problem. Some way to mark matching frames of video and frames of audio and letting the computer do the work to manipulate the audio speed would be very nice. There seems to be no way to do this particular trick within Final Cut Express. It was suggested on the Final Cut forums that Soundtrack might be able to.
Any thoughts?

Soundtrack Pro 2 can do a such process by stretching the audio file to match the lengh of video footage. I think you can even automate the process. But STP 2 is only available with Final Cut Studio 2.

Sync AUDIO to VIDEO in FCPX with timecode only (no scratch audio)

We shot a film on the RED. We will be editing the film in Apple ProRes.
The audio was recorded separately. And we have no camera audio to use as scratch to sync audio waveforms with AutoSync.
I am looking for a solution to batch sync my project using timecode.
Can I do this in FCPX? Do I need a third party App?
Please help.

Do you have a clap strike you can sync to? Or timecode? Use markers on the audio and and the video. Open the video clip in the timeline. Drag the audio into it and line up the markers.
