Syncing audiobooks

If I backed up my phone today to my computer and I want to sync audiobooks and I get the message that the phone can only be synced with one iTunes library will I loose data if I hit erase.
I'm using the same computer that I backed up to.
I recently got a macbook pro and when I did I lost all data on my phone after 12/2012 due to a corrupted back up file.  No I am leary that I will lose everything again. I have changed back up preferences to prevent this from happening in the future but still nervous when it asks me if I want to erase my iphone. Scary thought!!!!
Thank you!
Jamie

okay. After disabling automatically sync, I connected my iPod, selected it, changed setting to sync only checked items. When I tried to look at my list of podcasts it asked if I wanted to apply changes. I said, yes, and it automatically synced all p'casts. When I look at the list of p'casts I don't see a box to check.

  • How do I sync audiobooks across to my iPhone?

Can anyone tell me how I am supposed to sync audiobooks across to my iPhone?
I have a whole bunch of them, and they are all plain old MP3 files, with a .mp3 file extension, but I have changed the "Media Kind" for them, by selecting File > Get Info, and then choosing the Options tab. Under there, I change Media Kind from "Music" to "Audiobook".
Having done that, they do all show up under the Audiobooks section in iTunes on my Mac.
I have my iPhone set to auto-sync, ie: "Manually manage music and videos" is unchecked.
I have "Sync only checked songs and videos" checked, and the relevant individual audiobooks that I do want to copy across are checked.
I just want a few at a time, so I only have a few checked.
Needless to say, Apple doesn't supply an Audiobook tab when viewing the iPhone settings in iTunes when the iPhone is plugged in.
I have plenty of space left on my iPhone. I do not get any error messages when attempting to sync. iTunes on my mac has no problems locating the files. But still, the audiobooks will not copy across.
The only way I can get them to copy across is to create a playlist for them, copy them from the Audiobooks section into this playlist, then go under the iPhone's settings/preferences when it's plugged in, and check this new playlist that I've created.
Then they will copy across to the iPhone.
But that's a bit of a hack-job. Is there no way to "correctly" copy across an audiobook to an iPhone?
I am running the latest versions of everything:
    Mac OS X 10.5.5
    iTunes 8.0.2
    iPhone OS 2.2.1

    I'm such an idiot...
Well, actually, I'm not entirely to blame on this one...
I just figured out that Apple has buried an "Audiobook playlist" checkbox under the Music tab in the iPhone's settings / preferences.
I didn't have this "playlist" checked.
So even though the individual audiobooks themselves were checked, because the main playlist itself was not, nothing was copying across.
So I'm the fool for not noticing the box wasn't checked — but can you blame me when Apple decides to hide the "Audiobooks" section under the "Music" tab instead of in its own dedicated tab, like they do with "Video", "Podcasts", etc.
Why does "Podcasts" get its own section, but "Audiobooks" doesn't?
How is an audiobook any more like "music" than a podcast is?
    Now where's that rolls-eyes emoticon...?

  • How can I find an audio book on my 4th gen shuffle? Can't find it even when it's set to play in order. Tried setting it to Sync audiobooks but a warning says 'do you want to remove existing songs from other itunes library? and I don't want to do this.

How can I find an audiobook on my 4th gen shuffle? Can't find it even when I play in order. When I try to tick Sync audiobooks it asks if I want to continue to remove existing music befoer syncing and I don't want to do that. Can anyone help?

Did you already load the audiobook manually (by dragging it to the shuffle)?  To confirm that the audiobook is on the shuffle...
Select the shuffle in the iTunes sidebar.  If the sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
Click the small triangle to the left of the shuffle name (in the sidebar) to drop down its content list, indented below the shuffle.  Click on Audiobooks there.  To the right, your audiobook(s) should be listed.
NOTE:  if you don't see Audiobooks on the content list, there are no audiobooks on the shuffle.
When you turn ON the shuffle, you are playing from the default All Songs list.  Audiobooks (and podcasts) do not play from the All Songs list.  You need to use VoiceOver to select the audiobook from the playlist menu.  This document explains how to set up and use VoiceOver on your shuffle

  • Why do I need to create playlists to sync audiobooks correctly?

When I try to just sync audiobooks to my iPod, I get a jumble of tracks. I have to create each audiobook as a playlist, and then add the playlists. Also, I had to designate each audiobook as such (instead of music) but in the grid view, each one was still categorized as music and it was impossible to change them. Only in list view could I change each track and have it "stick." I have been messing with syncing my iPod for over an hour now, when it should be an easy procedure.

Unfortunately, organazing audiobooks is a bit trickier than it needs to be.  See this excellent article from another forum member turingtest2 for more information and tips.

  • IPod Classic refuses to sync Audiobooks

My iPod and iTunes now refuse to sync Audiobooks. Problem occurred when I bought a new book on iTunes. Refused to sync it. As I've experimented I've discovered that it refuses to sync any of my audiobook library except 1 book.
    So far, I've tried:
1)Authorizing the computer by highlighting the books and going to Store->Authorize
    2) Playing the books in iTunes and then syncing
    3) Restoring the iPod and re-downloading everything
    4) Telling it to sync all Music from the Music tab
    5) Telling it to sync only specific playlist and includes audiobooks
Any ideas? At this point I'll wave a rubber chicken over the darn thing if you think it will help.
    Thx.

I have the iPod Classic also.  Last week for the first time in months, I purchased a song and also created a new Playlist.  I have yet to be able to get them onto my iPod.  After my purchase, I received an email from iTunes to see how my purchase went.  I let them know all of my problems.  They wrote back with all of these links for me to try and solve the problem -- from deactivating and reactivating my laptop, etc -- and none of those suggestions work.  This is ridiculous.  I remember "the good old days" when all I had to do was connect my iPod to my laptop and it synched automatically.  This company must get pleasure in frustrating its customers.

  • IPod Nano WONT sync audiobooks

I am using a iPod Nano 5th generation and it wont sync audiobooks. I have restored my iPod twice and still the problems remain. Podcasts and everythign else syncs but audiobooks. Does anyone have any ideas? The audiobooks were downloaded from the apple store so not sure as to why they no longer will sync. They play just fine on my Mac.
    John

Make sure your audiobooks are configured to sync to your iPod from under its Books configuration tab in iTunes.  To access this tab, plug your iPod in and click on it when it appears under Devices in the left hand pane of iTunes. This will bring you to the iPod's Summary tab.  Locate the Books tab and select it.  Here you can configure how and what audiobooks sync to your device.

  • Can't sync audiobook to nano

Hello, I purchased an audiobook and I am trying to sync it to my nano. It says sync complete but it doesn't show up on my nano.

    Hey, TheMightyWitt.
To sync Audiobooks from your computer to your iOS device, we'll want to follow the basic syncing instructions outlined in this article:
    iOS: Syncing with iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1386
Specifically, what we are looking for is the "Books" tab at the top of iTunes (When your iPhone is plugged in). Here is what it looks like:
Once on the Books tab, there are two separate sections for syncing regular digital Books and Audiobooks. Make sure that the "Sync Audiobooks" checkbox is checked and choose to either sync all or selected audiobooks. Once these changes are applied, the Audiobooks will be transferred to your device for your enjoyment!

  • Can't sync audiobooks after IOS 5 upgrade.

After IOS 5 upgrade I am unable to Sync my iphone 4 either by WiFi or connected via USB.
Itunes becomes un responsive after "Determining tracks to sync".  Have been able to sync only after disabling Audiobooks sync.
SO far have done the following.
    - Changed the USB cable
    - Re "Keep Library Origanized"
    - Created new playlist with 1 audiobook.
    Itunes crashes everytime.
Have been able to sync my ipad 2 & nano with no issues.
Anyone have any ideas before I toast my iphone & start from scratch?

Nothing syncs if I have sync audiobooks turned on.
First I didn't know what the problem was and I even wiped my iPhone and started from scrach (what a pain it was).
Nothing. No music, no Apps, no ringtones, no audiobooks.
I installed some apps via the app store, and some audiobooks with audible app.
But the rest still didn't work.
Then I clicked "Tranfer purchases from ...'s iPhone" on iTunes and some of my music and ringtones started to transfer to the iPhone!! Partially. I had to click it again to get the rest of the music and ringtones. But the audiobooks didn't transfer. Not even from a playlist.
After I unchecked Sync Audiobooks, I managed to get some apps transfered to the iPhone but they're still "Waiting" not "Loading." Every time I click on sync a little bit of the apps transfer, but then their status goes back to "loading."
My biggest problem is that I have non Audible audiobooks. These I don't know how to put in the iphone.

  • Syncing audiobook playlists is (almost) broken

Is anyone else annoyed by the shoddy interface for syncing audiobook playlists in the latest (9.1.1.12) version of iTunes? There is no scrollbar and most of the playlists are off the bottom of the window. The ONLY way to see them is to use your mouses scroll wheel, but then the whole window jumps around too, and it is a pain to scroll back UP the list. Has anyone found a workaround for this?

I want to reiterate this problem, and see if there are any known solutions out there.
To update: I have a major problem syncing my iPhone to my computers. After a day, it think it's the authority on Contacts and Calendars, and wants to delete and replace everything on my computer. Doing this has undesirable consequences, like corrupting my Groups in my Address Book.
Here's what I have done: I have removed all computers from .Mac syncing. I added one back in, and forced .Mac to replace its data, using that computer. I then readded my other machines, and force-replaced all data on them using the .Mac data. I then synced my iPhone, and force-overwrote all info on the iPhone. At this point, everything should be a good agreement.
But no: today, the iPhone thinks that once again, it has all new data. It wants to delete 300 contacts and add 300 contacts on my computer. It wants to delete 800 calendar events and add 800 calendar events. It gets this way every day. I end up always force-writing to the iPhone, to keep it from messing up the data on my computer, and forcing a bad chain-reaction of syncs across machines. Does anyone else experience these same problems?
This. Should. Not. Be. This. Hard.

  • Syncing audiobooks to iphones

Hi, I have purchased some audiobooks through itunes on my mac and cannot sync it to my iphone. It is extremely frustrating! My iphone 5 music library does not have an option for audiobooks so it does not seem to sync and I have not been successful with adding to a playlist either. Can anyone help me. Thanks.

Click the arrow beside your ipod in the sidebar under devices to expand the menu. You should see a sub-menu there called books. When you select that, you should be able to check the "Sync Audiobooks" checkbox and choose the books you want to sync.
There may be the possibility that it got added to your music collection for some reason which would mean it does not show up under audiobooks. In that case you would need to right click on the book in your music collection > get info > options > media kind > audiobook.
    Hope this helps

  • Cannot sync audiobooks

My wife's iphone 3GS will not sync audiobooks. My iphone 3GS will. We are syncing to the same computer with the same itunes, files, etc. On her phone in the syncing window under the "music" tab there is no "audiobooks" box to check. If I check "entire music library" the audiobooks do not transfer. If I create an audiobooks playlist and put the audiobooks in the playlist, the playlist does not show up in the syncing window with the other playlists. If I do the same thing, but include a music file in the playlist, then the playlist shows up--but when I check it only the music file syncs.
Apparantly her phone just can't "see" the audiobooks. Anyone have an idea what is going on, or better yet how I can fix it?
    Thanks.

Well, im having the same issue. I have 3 audio books and for some reason one of them that I just purchased using the app store on my 3gs is in my Audiobooks area of my playslists, but when I sync to my computer to try and get the other ones, they wont move over to my iPhone. And if I uncheck all 3 books and try to remove the one book that is on my phone, it wont remove either. Ive tried syncing All Audio Books, and tried syncing Only Selected audio books, neither of those options work. Any idea's? Im using an 32 gig iPhone 3gs with the 4.01 update and iTunes 9.2.

  • Auto-syncing Audiobooks.

    Hello,
Thanks for taking the time to read my question.
Is there a way of auto-syncing Audiobooks to an iPod other than having them all synced across? At the moment I'm manually managing music and video which means I can just copy the few audiobooks I want at any given time but I would like to be able to take advantage of play counts/ratings on the music side since I do 99% of all my listening on my iPod touch.
I would very much welcome any tips.
    Much obliged.

I don't have audiobooks checked in the 'Music' tab
Most likely because there is no audiobooks to check in the music tab unless you created a playlist with audiobooks.
Click the Audiobooks tab and uncheck everything.

  • Can't Sync Audiobook from itunes on pc to my iphone5

I purchased an audiobook from itunes on my pc and I can't get it onto my iphone5. The audiobook shows up in my pc's itunes library under books. (itunes version 11.0.2.26. iphone ios 6.1.3.)
I followed instructions that I found to do this: From Devices in itunes on my pc, in Books folder I clicked Sync. Then I can see it goes through 3 steps (1:Waiting for Sync to start; 2:Preparing to Sync; 3:Waiting for changes to be applied) but these occur quickly and then it ends.
There's plent of space on the iphone.
In the itunes library, in Books, the title is listed and the box is checked.
In devices, in options, "Sync only checked songs and videos" is checked.
