Syncing between computers

I started off on a different computer. Then, I tried to put all my music and photos onto a laptop but it will only transfer the ones bought on iphone. I looked on the instructions and it said to move manually but itunes doesn't have that button on my summary page. I am so lost. I have itunes 7 on both computers. Any suggestions?

Here is an article from the apple support website that might help out in moving your whole itunes library.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
This article mentions using an ipod as an external drive, but you can use any portable hard drive or even burn to cd or dvd. This article mainly takes you through the steps on consolidating your library into one location so it is easier to move.
As for photos, you mill have to move your My Pictures folder, or what ever folder yo have them stored in.
Hope this helps.

  • Any way to sync between computers?

I can't sync my Tungsten E2 to my Vista 64 computer.  But I can sync to my XP Pro computer (32).  Is there a way to sync between the computers?  Or to use the files on the XP on the Vista 64?
    Thanks,

You cannot sync between computers, What can be done though, to get the data from your E2 to the Vista 64 bit PC is to sync by bluetooth. You can check in your device manager to see if the PC already has bluetooth installed. If it does just find the bluetooth port on your PC, put the E2 a couple of inches away from the PC and in hotsync manager choose to hot sync by bluetooth. If you don't have bluetooth already installed on your PC you will need to purchase a USB bluetooth dongle, install the drivers that come with it and then sync. The first time you sync it could take a little while depending on how much data you have on the device.  Hope this helps.....

  • ITunes won't sync between computers!

I have two macs, one a late 2010 Macbook Pro that I use for University, and a Mac Mini Late 2012 that I use whilst at home.
I buy most of my music from the Mac Mini, but when I come to listen to it on my MBP, it won't sync! It doesn't happen the other way around because today I purchased something on my MBP and it synced fine to the MM.
I've tried all the normal proedures; turning everything on and off again, going to Store > Check for Available Downloads but still nothing! It says everything is synced up nad its not! Very annoying!
I look forward to anyones earliest reply,
    Ash

Correct. iTunes does not sync between computers.
It doesn't happen the other way around because today I purchased something on my MBP and it synced fine to the MM.
    You mean it automatically downloaded.
going to Store > Check for Available Downloads but still nothing!
Because it has already been downlaoded.
It says everything is synced up nad its not!
You mean it says everything has already been downloaded (not synced).
    On both computers...
    iTunes prefs > Store.
    Tick Music under Automatic downloads.
Now when you purchase on one, the other will automatically download (not sync) new purchases.

  • Stored passwords not syncing between computers.

I'm trying to use Firefox to Syncronize data between computers. It was working, but somewhere along the way it has stopped. I now have three computers, of which I'm trying to have two of them synced together. I thought that the issue was account related, so I deleted my original account & had to create a new one (with a different e-mail address - I'd like to change that back if possible). Anyhow, now it seems as if bookmarks are synced OK, but my saved passwords are not. Given that I can't tell what the status is of a sync, it is hard for me to tell where the process is.
So, I have one computer (a Macbook) with passwords on it that I am syncing and I have another (a new Dell Laptop), that I would like to have updated.
What do I need to do to get my passwords synchronized?
    Thank you,
    Paul

Make sure that you are forcing syncing by pressing Sync Now in your computers and allow some time (several minutes) to have all the information sent to the server and down from the server. If this still doesn't work, follow the steps in this blogpost to create a bug:
    https://philikon.wordpress.com/2011/06/13/how-to-file-a-good-sync-bug/
This would be really helpful. I've seen other people having issues with passwords but I'm unable to replicate it.

  • ICal won't sync between computers / iphones

Since I started my free trial with mobileme, I have been trying to synch calendars between two desktop computers and two iPhones. No luck.
I have established a number of calendars on my me.com account, using my iMac. I also share these calendars with only those people I invite. I can see these calendars on the iCal on my iMac, but I cannot see these calendars on my MacBook Pro iCal. When I open an email on my MacBook Pro, alerting me to the Mobile Me calendar, I cannot join that calendar: "You can't join calendars you're sharing."
So how can I get all of the calendars to sync between both computers? If I resolve that problem, maybe the iPhone sync will resolve itself.

I got some help from MobileMe Support. Here's how they solved the problem.
On the laptop, open iCal and click the word iCal at top of the screen. Choose Preferences. 2. Click Accounts. 3. Click the plus button at the bottom of the page. 4. From the "Account Type," please choose "CalDAV." Enter your full MobileMe email address, including the @me.com suffix. If you don't include @me.com, the setup will not be successful. 5. Enter your MobileMe password. 6. For the Server address, please enter: cal.me.com 6. Click the Create button.

  • Pages won't sync between computers in iCloud drive

Since I upgraded to iCloud Drive, I can't get my documents to sync between my laptop and desktop.
Before I upgraded, I could write on the laptop and it would sync with the desktop and vid-versa.
I upgraded to Yosemite thinking this would solve the problem. it did not. I upgraded to pages 5.5 on both. Still no success. Any ideas, or is this something you can't do on Drive. And if you can't, is there a way to go back to the old Cloud? I hate moving files manually -- always afraid I'm writing over the wrong thing.
    Thanks.

    Hi matthewfromconifer;
The following would be helpful, I suppose:
1- Make a backup of iCloud Drive docs (for precaution) .
2- Go to System Preferences > iCloud
3- iCloud Drive > Options. Uncheck all the applications listed.
      4- Turn off iCloud Drive.
5- Delete the CloudKit folder from:
              ~/Library/Caches
       6- Restart the Mac.
       7- Turn on iCloud Drive
This completely resets iCloud Drive and downloads a clean set of data from iCloud.
    Regards,

  • Aren't Safari bookmarks supposed to sync between computers?

I think that Safari bookmarks are suppose to be the same across all of one's computers running the same OS. But that is not the case between my iMac running OS X Mountain Lion and my MacBook Pro running OS X Mountain Lion. Any help?

OK, the service list is updated when you sign in.
    Try the solution suggested here:

  • Can iTunes Libraries Sync between computers?

Wondering if there was a way to sync libraries between two computers. I have a G5 and laptop both running Leopard. I'm currently running the same library on both. Wondering if I add a CD or song to one, is there an easier way to sync them up. Other than replacing the library and importing from the source. Thanks!

There is no Apple-provided way, but you may wish to investigate a 3rd party program such as Sync-O-Tunes. I haven't used it so cannot vouch for how well it might work.

  • New Sync between computers using iPod

Steve said that you should be able to sync music between two computers one being a mac, and the other being a PC, im trying to do that now, but when i insert the ipod into the PC it says they aren't formatted for a PC, im just not sure how its suppose to work. The iPod is first sync'd on a Powerbook and then disconnected and pluged into the PC. Anyone have this working please let me know how, and yes I have downloaded and installed iTunes 7 on both systems.
    G4 Powerbook 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   I also have a PC

Steve Jobs said and ill quote "This is the abilty to more eaily move content that you've purchesed on the iTunes Music Store between your various computers, so lets say you have a computer at home and at work, could be two macs could be two pcs could be a mixture, dosen't really matter, but they are both running iTunes 7 and they are both authorized with your account, they are both authorized for the same account. You can now take your ipod and sync it with your computer at home say carry it to work and that content will automatically sync back up to your work computer." Now i understand sometimes things don't work correctly the first time they are released, being a software developer and all i really understand this, however if it does work i'd appreciate help if someone has does this.

  • Only partly sync between computers

I am interested in syncing my history to two other computers, and in the future I wish all the computers to be in sync with history. But when I use Firefox Sync, only some of my visited homepages are synced to the other computers.
For example, yesterday I search on google for “backup safari history” and this is not in sync. But few minutes later I search for “firefox sync only sync some”, and for some reason this is in sync!? I think it is not a time problem, because I let it sync for a couple of hours.
I have tried different solutions. I have tried to make a new Sync account, and it didn’t make a difference. I have tried to use Xmarks without luck. Lastly, I have tried to export the history to another browser, so I could use a Sync option from another browser, but it is only possible to export bookmarks and not history.
    Some statistic:
Yesterday I visited 107 homepage on my computer (only 87 was visible on another computer)
    Last 7 days 1659 (1265)
    January 266 (215)
    December 5477 (2127)
    November 305 (67)
    October 460 (2)
    September 450 (449)
    Older 3220 (8)
Does anyone have a solution for this, so all my history can be synced?

You could try increasing your Sync Quota and see if you get more of your history to Sync, but that 6o days max might be coded in and affected by the Quota setting.

  • I can't get emails to sync between computers. They are both set on imap.

I set both computers on the imap settings and had them synced. Then someone signed on with a laptop and we lost our sync. He removed the laptop, but we cannot get our sync back.

Are you sure your calendar doesn't belong to another service such as Gmail (Google), Yahoo or and exchange account that is set up on your Mac, rather than iCloud?  If the calendar doesn't appear on iCloud.com, it isn't an iCloud calendar that you are seeing on your Mac.

  • Why are playlists syncing between computers?

I've noticed that changes made to playlists on one of our computers are synced to all other computers, though I'm not sure whether it's through home sharing or iCloud.
It doesn't really make sense to me, why would one user want to see playlists created by another? e..g. My 8 year old son doesn't need to see my Slayer playlist , and if my wife deletes a playlist on her iMac it disappears from mine too . Is there a way to stop this from happening?
    Cheers.

Good point Keith, perhaps just disabling Match on his computer and letting him copy across the music he wants via Home Sharing is more sensible.
We all have our own libraries, mine has everything on it and is used for syncing our phones and streaming to two AppleTV's, the other libraries just have music and video for that particular user.
I think I will just move playlists into individually named folders for my wife and myself and leave iCloud on, it gives her access to the whole library when my computer is turned off.

  • Turn off Syncing between computers?

    Hi,
I recently set up a new iMac for an elderly family member and used my Apple ID. My bookmarks appeared on her screen, so I deleted all of them. This morning, when I brought up Safari on my laptop, all of my bookmarks were gone. It appears that the two computers are syncing data which I do not want. How do I separate the two at this point? Is this an iCloud situation?

You should not have used your Apple ID, now her Mac and your Mac are connected via iCloud. Go back to the other machine and take your account off of it. Backup your machine before you do anything.

  • HT204053 icloud won't sync between computers

I bought a film using my apple ID on my laptop, and it won't download on my other machines (mac Mini at home, iPhone, iPad) although I connect with the same Apple ID.
    Can you help?

The film studios need to agree to it for a particular country before re-downloading will be possible there, but it is gradually improving (for a long time it wasn't possible anywhere, and then it was just USA, and now more countries are being added) -  what can be re-downloaded where.
There are a number of ways that you could do it e.g. copying it to a flashdrive and then adding it (File > Add To Library) - though this page is specifically about music, the same principles should apply to films : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 e.g. if both computers are connected to the same wifi network then you should be able to copy them via home sharing.

  • HT1351 Syncing between computers

I have an iphone and an ipod touch, can I sync a movie I have on itunes with the ipod touch without it erasing everything else? Right now it tells me it will sync and erase data since the ipod touch is synced with another computer.
    Thanks!

    Hi
I doubt you can do what you want with what you have? Besides I don't think Time Machine can be used in the way you're thinking it can? It may be quicker and more beneficial if you pursued some of the dedicated 3rd-Party syncing software such as: ChronoSync, DropBox, SugarSync, SyncProX etc.
Depending on your budget you could look at OSX Server and use some of the built-in technologies to achieve something similar? Portable Home Directories would achieve a similar thing. However this may be a learning curve you're not prepared to get involved in?

+". . . the name of my Macbook now has the number (6) after it. Does anyone know why this has happened?"+
Usually it's because there are 5 other MacBooks called exactly the same. It can also be due to using the laptop at other locations and whatever network settings have been acquired at those locations are 'retained' in some confused way. When you get back to your location the network environment gets further confused and does not know how to deal with it. It can also be caused by whatever routing device you have at your location? In my experience some Router/Gateways cause this. Especially the ones using the Thompson chipset. Then again it could be because there's a damaged and/or corrupted and/or confused preference and/or .plist somewhere?
    +" . . . How I can change it?"+
System Preferences > Sharing > Computer Name. Key in what you want.
