Syncing bookmarks using Dropbox – small problem

I recently found an article on how to sync safari bookmarks using Dropbox. Article can be found here: http://macs.about.com/od/CloudServices/qt/Sync-Safari-Bookmarks-Using-Dropbox.ht m
I'm using a latest 27" iMac, running Lion as my main work machine, along with a MacBook Pro 15" running Leopard.
I've followed instructions in the article and got my MBP to sync with my iMac.
The problem occurs when I add a new bookmark on my iMac, it seems to create a new .plist in the safari library folder as opposed to updating the one in my Dropbox. Thus not syncing. I haven't tried the other way i.e adding a new bookmark on my MBP.
Can anyone please help?
Thanks

Hi..
MacBook Pro 15" running Leopard.
If the Mac running Leopard can be upgraded to Lion, you can enable iCloud then sync Bookmarks via Wi-Fi.
Lion's requirements:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OSX v10.6.6 or later (V10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available spare

  • I can't import bookmarks (from Firefox) or Sync bookmarks using sync

    Hi
I'm on a mac desktop and running Firefox 21. I want to import the bookmarks from my laptop and so I have tried the following without any success.:
    1. Saving Firefox Bookmarks as a HTML file and using Import Bookmarks feature in 'show all bookmarks'
    2. Use sync to sync both machines.
On each occasion, using both methods, I can see the bookmark structure but only the folders seem to be imported and when I hover over the folder the message 'empty' is displayed.
I'm not sure what else I can do but it seems that Firefox will not actually import its own exported files from and identical version of Firefox: 21.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

  • I am having a problem moving files from a iMac  in location mac in another location.  I have tried using Dropbox and the Public folder in the i disc.  When I drag the files into dropbox they become alias' and I can't open them at the other end beca

I am having a problem moving files from an imac in one location to an imac inanother location.  I have tried using Dropbox which is installed in both locations but when i drad a file ino yhe app it becomes an alias.  When I get to the other location it says I can't open the file because the " original application that created it is not present".  This is despite the fact that the app that created both files is installed in both computers.  If I use the Public folder in the idisc, when I get to the other location the file isn't there.  Am I forgetting to turn something on or off?  Should I manually sync the Public folder and if so how? Thanks

So now that's two of us.  Hopefully, someone has an answer.

  • Using DropBox to Sync Address Book -- Mystery!

I've read several postings online about using DropBox to sync AddressBook between two Macs. The process involves moving the AddressBook folder from Library/Application Support to DropBox on the primary Mac, deleting it from the folder on the secondary Mac, and then creating symlinks from the folder in DropBox to the Application Support folders on each of the two Macs.
Seems both simple and logical. But I've been trying for a week and it almost works -- but not quite. I'm stumped.
    *The "Almost" Part*
    1) If I change or add a picture to a contact on one computer, the picture instantly syncs and appears with the contact on the other computer.
    2) If I edit a contact or add a new contact, DropBox activates on both computers and says that the data file has been changed on both machines.
    *The "Mystery" Part*
Although the DropBox link appears to be active, and although both Macs are getting their information from the folder in DropBox (both have only symlinks in the Library), the data never changes. I can add a new contact on computer #1 and it never shows up on computer #2. I can change a phone number or a note on a contact on computer #2 and it never shows up on computer #1 -- despite the fact that the new picture for that contact syncs with no problem.
Can anybody explain this? Since the two machines are sharing the same AddressBook folder in DropBox, and since the connection works well enough to update photos, why does the data never sync?
    All suggestions welcomed!
+(And yes, I'm careful not to run the Address Book on both machines simultaneously -- so it's not an issue of two programs trying to access the same data at the same time. One is a desktop at my office, the other a laptop used only on weekends or while traveling when the desktop is off.)+

Hi, I can't imagine what is doing it, but since nobody has replied yet, I'll throw this out...
Have you tried "Look for Duplicate Entries..." in the Card menu?
    Might also see this...

  • Sync Safari and Chrome bookmarks using Windows?

I've got PC that is powered by Windows Vista, I like to use iTunes to sync my media to my phone and never had any problems with it except syncing bookmarks. The deal is that I like to use Google Chrome vs. Safari therefore all of my bookmarks are in Chrome thou Safari is another one of my favorite browsers. I like Safari for some of its features and cause its apple product so I stick with it and Google Chrome for being userfriendly and its interface.
Now how do keep these two browser bookmarks insync so that just by going into iCloud in my Control Panel and having bookmarks there being synced with Safari while I'm making changes in Google Chrome everything stays insync. Or is there an alternative?

You can use xmarks http://www.xmarks.com which does a decent job.  Not seemless and I'd definitely make a backup first.

  • How to sync tags across several computers using DropBox

I use DropBox on several Macs - Mini, MacBook etc - and have set up tags within the DropBox on one.  How do I get the tags to synchronise across each of the Macs without having to rewrite them in each time?

    Hi,
I don't think this is possible, at least with any Outlook built-in features, as each Outlook client has it's own data file (.pst file) which need to be synced with the server.
If the major problem is the bandwidth, maybe you can prevent Microsoft Outlook from automatically downloading email messages by unticking the option of "Schedule an automatic send/receive every _ minutes." in
    Tools>Options...>Mail Setup
    tab>Send/Receive... button.
Then you can download emails in Outlook when the bandwidth allows, by manually clicking Send/Receive button.

It's recommended to download and install

I have tried to sync it using iTunes match, this did not work. I would like to have access to my full library without going into the user profile of my old computer, which is on my new computers hard drive. I would like to eventually delete the old profile so that I have more space on my hard drive.

  • Hi, I have small problem, for some time in music area I had two folders to use 1. Apple loops for soundtrack pro 2. Final Cut pro sound effects now both are gray and with out content may I know what happend

I just went through this and it appears that my Focusrite Saffire was the culprit. I connected all the outputs on the focusrite according to the way the jacsk on the back were labeled and then set up the multichannel speaker setup to match. Then I went into STP, created a pink noise clip and panned it around, the LFE, center and rears were not in the right place.
I reconnected the hardware to match the 5.1 pan pot in STP then changed the multichannel speaker setup to match. Everything appears to be correct now but I would have loved to have been able to just assigned the output busses to correct outputs in the saffire.
Next step is to pan that pink noise around with my SPL meter to calibrate the room.

  • My backup sync seems to have been erased, and i didnt use 'clear sync data', how can i recover my sync or see my sync bookmarks?

I recently formated my computer, and reinstalled Firefox. I used the Sync feature, and selected the option "Replace all data on this computer with my sync data". However, nothing happened, and my quota ( i only checked later) seem to be an unusual size for the amount of bookmarks i had.
I am pretty sure i havent erased my data by accident, since i only joined manage account page after things went wrong.
I have synced my bookmarks sucessfully before, when i switched from Firefox 32 to 64 bits.
Anyone knows how can i see my synced bookmarks on server to check if it was somehow erased, and how to recover in that case?

    Hi Shaktar!
By any chance did you used the Recovery/Sync Key to set up your account again or you resetted it? If you reset the Recovery Key your data was erased at the same time.
The Recovery key is used to encrypt your data and if you lose it, the encrypted data that we have is unusable.

  • Using Dropbox to sync calendars

I'm wondering if I can sync calendars between my laptop and iphone using Dropbox.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
I don't believe that is possible.
Have you considered using a CalDAV calendar, like Google Calendar?
    Best wishes

If you get an error that says can't backup, try moving the existing backup file to a safe location and thry again. again. You can find the location of the backup file here:

  • Syncing Bookmarks Problem

I have an iPad Air 7.1.2 and a Macbook Air 10.9.3 running iTunes 11.2.2.  I am unable to sync my bookmarks  between them.  When i open iTunes > Info, there is no option to manually sync bookmarks.  We have to sync via iTunes since iCloud is blocked at work.

    Hey CaptFox
Currently there is not a way to sync bookmarks through iTunes on OS X Mavericks. What you can do is export the bookmarks and then email the html to yourself. Open the email on your iPad and then click each link and then go through the steps to adding a bookmark on your iPad.

  • Use Dropbox as iPhoto library location?

I need access to my image files from several computers, and am wondering whether I could simply locate my iPhoto library on Dropbox, and access it as needed. I am, and would continue, backing up to a remote hard drive, so the Dropbox would not be the only location of my iPhoto library.

You can use Dropbox to run iPhoto from multiple computers but, unless you want to purchase additional dropbox space, the library's size must be less than 2 GB in size. See Old Toad's Tutorial #20 - "Syncing" a Small iPhoto Library between Multiple Macs with Dropbox for more info. Be sure to read the warning in the tutorial.
You must allow sufficient time for changes made on computer A to be synced to computers B and C (they must be up and online to do so).

  • USING DROPBOX TO SHARE A LR4 CATALOG AMOUNGST SEVERAL MACS

Our studio was told we could use dropbox to share a large database amongst several LightRoom users and not have problems sharing the same Catalog/database/preview files. I was able to copy the catalog database up to this dropbox folder but when copying the Preview database (98gigs) to the folder finder says there is not enough space for it. I upgraded my drop box account to 200 gigs so it should fit. Does anybody have experience with this method.

Lightroom is not designed for multi-user access to its database (catalog).
It's intended for single user access to a locally installed database.
If you're careful as a single user, you can set it up to be shared/synced via Dropbox (or Skydrive or similar) but you have to operate carefully with a meticulously structured workflow to avoid database corruption, data conflicts and duplication.

In a shared, networked studio environment, a solution such as Daminion for DAM and Lightroom for editing would be more suitable.
