Syncing bookmarks via iCloud

The sync of my Safari bookmarks via iCloud just doesn't work properly. I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro and I sync the bookmarks between the two devices. Sometimes, it works almost instinstantaneously, but now it has stopped working alltogether. What I can do to make iCloud sync my bookmarks again?

Your answer isnt't helpful, it took my 45 minutes to sync my bookmarks on both macs. The iPhone syncs so slow, that it causes even more problems. And it drains the battery. So I removed the bookmark-sync from my iPhone.
I used MobileMe before and it worked without problems. There was a sync-button and I could determine, in which direction the sync should go. I miss all this helpful funtions with iCloud.
The positions of the bookmarks in the folders are not synced. The service is not reliable, I expect from Apple to improve this as soon as possible. iCloud is not an improvement in comparison to MobileMe, the opposite is true.
Do you know alternative services, that are more reliable than iCloud?

On the setting under 'store' on my iPhone 4, there is no option to activate Music to automatically sync via iCloud to my other devices (iPad, Mac and MacBook Pro). It is possible to activate 'Apps' and 'Books', but not Music and I do not know why.

  • IPad 4 w iBooks syncs Books via iCloud but not pdf's on my iMac iBooks

Why dont the Pdf's come over from iBooks on the iMac to the iPad4?

They won't go via iCloud, only ibooks that you buy/download from iTunes will potentially show (whilst they remain in the store) in the iBooks app on your iPad for redownloading - if you want the PDFs in the iBooks app on your iPad then you will need to connect the iPad to your Mac and select it in iTunes, and use its Books tab to select and sync them to it.

  • Help Syncing Bookmarks pre-ICloud Desperately Needed

    Hello,
I’m in desperate need of some guidance in preparing my 4 Mac devices to go from Mobile Me to iCloud in the area of Safari bookmarks.
I have iMac, a Mac Book Pro (both reasonably current) iPhone 4s and Ipad 2.   I have not updated the computers to Lion yet, but thought I might want to take care of this issue before I do.  Mobile devices are updated.
Though I have used MobileMe effectively to sync Mail, iCal and Address Book, I have never tried to sync Safari bookmarks, because I’ve always been much too confused while reading about doing it to have any understanding whatsoever of what I wanted or how to do it.
I suppose I could just opt never to sync bookmarks and get by (assuming that is still an option and that my devices will all keep their bookmarks after going to iCloud / Lion,) but I do suspect it could be useful in the future to have some sort of sync enabled.  It would certainly be nice to have access to all bookmarks from all devices.
But I get utterly baffled by the very idea of syncing it all, because I have such different web habits on all devices.   Therefore I would like to maintain the general bookmarking folders system of each device, but ideally be able to access the systems of the other devices.   I don’t know if this is remotely possible.   I know there is a process called merging, but I’ve never been able to wrap my head around how that would work, and can only imagine it resulting in some kind of unholy mess of files that I will might never straighten out.
Given this situation, if anyone has any advice or guidelines you can point to that might clear these issues up for me, I would greatly appreciate it.  For all I know, it might be an issue better dealt with after I’ve gone to iCloud. If that’s the case I would gladly defer the issue till then, I just want to make sure I don’t loose my stuff from any devices after making the jump and find there’s no turning back.
Your kind assistance is greatly appreciated!
    Brian

Thanks for the reply. The trouble is that I think I have turned iCloud off everywhere I can think of. But I have two different sets of data on each device. Some events on MacBook do not make it over to the iPod, some events on the iPod have different times! I just don't understand it. I have even tried restoring the iPod, setting it up as a new device. This leaves the calendar empty. But then when I sync I get the same result!
    I am at a loss.

  • Trouble syncing notes via icloud

I recently turned on notes to be synced via icloud.  In doing that, notes asked me to sign up using an icloud email.  That ID differs from the ID that I used for all my other icloud activity so it won't sync.  How do I correct?

Are you sure it asked you to create a new iCloud ID rather than to create an iCloud email account?  (You have to have an iCloud email account in order to sync notes.)

  • Sync iTunes via iCloud in The Netherlands?

Hi, when will it be possible to synchronize iTunes via iCloud in The Netherlands?

I would also like to know the answer to this as my computer is full of music now and I have no memory left and I don't want to delete any songs from my computer yet!!

  • Two of my 7 calendars aren't syncing correctly via icloud from iMac to ipad and iphone.  i cant find the problem. Help!

Two calendars in my list of seven are not correctly syncing between my iMac and my ipad & iPhone.  Also, the two calendars appear in my iCloud list with alert symbols after the (triangle with exclamation mark) whereas others in list show a "broadcasting" symbol. I don't know how to find out what these alerts are.
I have noticed problems in syncing special recurring events....I.e I am able to set up a 'last Friday of each month"  on my iMac, but it doesn't appear on my iPad or iPhone.  And I note I can't set up a special recurring event on my iPad or iPhone.  What can I do to solve this?  Is this a known flaw in iCal?
    Mary C

I have no idea if this will help as I sync via iTunes under OSX.6.8 - but there may be a clue somewhere here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4981514
I have to say that, even after doing all that, my problem seems to recur at random with no obvious trigger - and it is even more bizarre because, like you, not all calendars or events are affected.  Sometimes, different events within the same calendar are duplicated whereas others aren't!
And just how the iPad seems to pick up events which no longer appear in iCal is beyond me - presumably somewhere in a plist or old cache file but, as I said, no-one has any idea what or where!
No-one has managed to explian why my problem occurs or, indeed, just what is happening, but at least I now know how I can correct it, albeit via tedious series of steps.
    I hope that helps?

  • After 4.2.1 update I am unable to sync bookmarks via Mobile Me

After the update all my bookmarks had vanished, though they should be synced via Mobile Me. I tired a Restore, and a then restored from a backup, but I still can't sync any bookmarks to the iphone.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

I spoke (wrote) too soon. Though the calendar is showing all the events, an event I just added on the iphone has not shown up on other devices. I created an event on my Ipad too, which also didn't show up on other devices.
I logged in to Mobile Me, which reports all services running OK, but something seems to be wrong

  • Sync email via iCloud vs. IMAP account

I have access to my iCloud email account set up via IMAP on all my Macs, and I also have accounts on my iDevices. IMAP keeps my email in sync by storing messages on the server, so what's the added advantage of checking "Mail & Notes" on my Macs? Does that just add notes to the synching process, or is there something else?

@PDADoc: I just tried activating Mail & Notes on one of my Macs on which I hadn't manually set up an account to access my iCloud (formerly MobileMe) email. Doing so immediately created an iCloud account in Mail.app. In the past, I had always set up my Mac-based MobileMe accounts manually, since I wanted to use a different replyto address than ****@me.com or ****@mac.com. With MobileMe, that wasn't possible, but I just discovered that you can specify another replyto address for an iCloud account in Mail.app. I just tried sending email from that account, and the alternative address worked as expected.
So maybe that's the reason for the Mail & Notes checkbox in iCloud. Unlike iOS, where iCloud is one of the explicit choices when you add a new email account, there's no such option on the Mac.
I'll be interested to see if this works for you.

  • Safari on Windows 7 is not syncing bookmarks with iCloud correctly

I have a Windows 7 computer for work and on this I added iCloud and Safari.  I configured iCloud to sync with Safari (not Explorer) and it was working okay.
I wanted to reorganize my bookmarks as I look at most things on my iPhone these days.  I tried to move the bookmarks in Safari (on Windows 7) and found the operation to be clunky.  It was often crash out and I would have to wait a couple of seconds between every move why the iCloud sync occured.  So I gave up doing it in Windows.
So i started to adjust the bookmarks on the iPhone.  After moving a few around it appeared to be working to I got more aggressive.  Then Safari on Windows stopped syncing.  I am now missing a whole bunch of bookmarks on Safari in Windows.  They are still there on my iPhone.  I have not checked my home Macbook yet as, well I'm at work, so I am not sure if this is just a windows issue or also a mac issue with Safari.
I have shutdown and restarted Safari.  i have disabled and enabled icloud on Windows.  I can't get it to sync my bookmarks back.
    Any ideas?

Don't worry I have the bookmarks back.
I don't know why but they took a couple of hours to sync up whereas normally it is almost instantaneous.

  • Auto-Sync Bookmarks from iCloud Account 1 to iCloud Account 2

I have two different mac machines using two different registrations. I am able to keep the calendars, notes, reminders in sync between them automatically.
I need to keep the safari bookmarks also in sync automatically. I don't want to manually download and upload everytime. Please suggest ideas or tips for this?

"iCloud requires iOS 5 on iPhone 3GS or later, iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation), iPad, or iPad 2; a Mac computer with OS X Lion; or a PC with Windows Vista or Windows 7 (Outlook 2007 or 2010 or an up-to-date browser is required for accessing email, contacts, and calendars). Some features require a Wi-Fi connection. Some features are not available in all countries. Access to some services is limited to 10 devices."

  • If You Sync Notes Via iCloud, How Can You Make Local/On My Mac Notes?

I've you're using the Notes app in Mountain Lion, and your Notes are stored in iCloud, is it possible to make notes that are just On My Mac and not in iCloud? If so, how do you do it?

Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Mail, Contacts & Calendars.Open Mail, Contacts & Calendars preferences
Set up an account with Notes:
    For an existing account:
Select the account, and then select the Notes checkbox.

Click an account type, enter your account information, and then follow the onscreen instructions.

  • How do I sync apps via iCloud

Is it possible to view my books on my iPad as well as my laptop

If you mean ibooks from Apple then you can have copies of them on your computer for backup/syncing purposes, but you won't be able to read them on it - Apple haven't yet made a Mac or PC reader for them, they can currently only be read in the iBooks app on an iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.
