Syncing both my macs

i really need some help! i own 2 mac computer one is a Mac Pro. and the other is a Macbook Pro. My problem is that i use both of them for work and the the files on them are no longer in sync. now i have ask apple them selves. but all they can suggest is mobileme. which for me is no good. as i work with some very large files, plus my mobileme account keeps play in up. all i want to do is connect both my macs together by a cat-5 or USB. and the be able to just press sync!! with out having to send things over the internet! to my other computer a foot away.
come on apple it is not alot to ask for. if Mr Gates could offer this with his windows. then why cant you it should be a standed program

iSync is for third-party cell phones and PDAs, and Apple doesn't read these forums.

i synced both to my mac to see if they would come back and they do not. i looked at other forums and most of the people that had success getting them back used gmail. I do not. My email is verizon. The only notes that were on there before the sync were 2 short notes that look like they could have been from one of my kids (although they all deny they belong to them of course). now after the sync there are 4 notes all from december or this past sunday but the other 20 or so notes are nowhere to be seen. I suppose part of the problem could be that i really don't understand the icloud. I am really struggling to figure out how to use it. the other day i synced my ipad (because i usually enter all my calendar dates on there and they were not syncing to my iphone via the icloud and now i have duplicates of a bunch of calendar events. i am getting so frustrated. Any advice welcome. Thanks.

True by my description it would seem I sent them nowhere, but ten minutes later after turning on and off Contacts in the Cloud I got most of them.
I have the most recent one I added about 4 days ago but I'm missing some here and there.
I logged in with my Apple ID and it's the only one I've ever used.
Still a little weird.
I have synced my contacts with iTunes but not very recently.
I now have learned to do it often!
As far as I can tell there's no rhyme or reason for my missing contacts.
It's odd I would have most, but not all. So I must have uploaded something since I have some of my recent adds that were after my last sync with iTunes.

IPad and IPhone synced to different PCs how do I get the same music on both devices? I used one PC to put CDs on ITunes but these don't appear on the phone which syncs to the Mac.

I have 1 ITunes account but my IPad is synced to a Windows PC to download CDs onto my IPad and the Iphone is synced to the Mac. I was hoping that the CDs I'd put on the IPad from the Windows PC would automatically appear on my IPhone when both these devices were sharing the same Wi-Fi at home. This didn't really work very well and I've been left with the CDs showing on the list on my phone but when I try to play them, the different tracks keep scrolling fast and not playing. I've tried deleting them from the IPhone, but they just seem to retreat to ICloud.
I've tried syncing the phone to the windows PC but this has just resulted in an error and I think this may be what has screwed the music up on my phone. I would just like to be able to listen to my CDs on my phone.
Has anyone come across this before and resolved it?

Terminology check here. Do you really mean a "CD"? There's a difference in Cloud behavior between content from a physical CD you ripped (which only has Cloud content if you have iTunes Match) and an "album" you bought from the iTunes Store.

The above can get pretty complicated. You are probably best off by syncing both devices to a single library and/or updating the libraries on both computers to have the same content.

I solved this by reset of the Wifi (unplug cable and power to both modem and wifi ... wait 60 sec ... plug in modem cable and power ... plug in wifi power and LAN to modem ... restart AppleTV and Mac ... Turn Home Share 'OFF' in iTunes then back "ON" ... it took ~60 sec for the AppleTV to pick up my Mac in computers.

Nubie with Tungsten E2 with Mac sync, now have Palm Centro... can I sync both?

I have been using a Tungsten E2 for about 12 months, and now have a Palm Centro phone. I need to use both, and don't know what I should do about loading both disks on my Mac OS X 10.4.11 and if I can sync both. Any thoughts?

You can sync both, but it is recommended that you have two different usernames for both devices. If the Centro is to become the main device you can sync the device to the same username of the E2. But the E2 then should be hard reset and synced with a different username.
Reason this is, is so the devices and programs that run do not have problems in the future. If you have two different devices with the same username you can risk corrupted data, programs, and OS.

Solution to syncing with both a Mac & PC

This is for anyone trying to sync their contacts, calendar & bookmarks from a PC, and all of their media from their Mac. I had many problems, but finally figured it out (PTBoater, you led me down the right path!). You have to uncheck "automatically sync" on the info page, and check "only sync checked items". Then after you finish syncing with either the Mac or PC, uncheck both of them, click apply, and disconnect and the device should be recognized by the other machine. This worked for me...hopefully it will work for any of you guys out there struggling with it...

I have to do it with each sync....and it still doesnt work every time. Definetely not as elegant as the sync experience with a single machine.
I could be wrong on this, but you may run into issues. If I understand what you;re saying, you are trying to sync contacts between Mac & PC. Not sure this will work. I'm thinking (again, I'm not the expert here) the only reason what I'm proposing will work, is that I am syncing different data (i.e. contacts, bookmarks ONLY on the PC sync, and music, etc. ONLY on the Mac; no syncing same data on multiple machines). Not sure...but good luck

Need to sync pocket pc with both a Mac & PC ...

Can anyone advise whether either pocketmac or missing sync will permit me to sync my pocket pc with both my mac at home & my pc at work? The pocket pc has been provided by work, & at the moment I'm carrying around 2 pda's because I can only sync mine with my mac - if I can just be sure that installing pocketmac or missing sync will let me use both platforms & so retain all info both at home & at work, I can offload my personal clie in favour of the work pocket pc.

Do not use Pocketmac Pro! They are the worst right now.
I purchased PM Pro 2 years ago and it worked reasonably well for 18 months. I could never get the Bluetooth working and it worked very inconsistently. The problems related to getting thinsg to sync first time. Often times it took many attempts to get these things to sync. Rarely did they provide updates or correct issues. Bottom line this was barely usable software, but I was desparate.
In August 05 it stopped working. I do not have time to write the details but they were totally incapable of fixing it, and when that became obvious, the customer support dropped off the map. Zero callbacks, zero emails.
I finally got a phone number, threatened a call to Better Business Bureau, and they refunded my original purchase price.
I loved my IPAQ, but gave it to my nephew for xmas. I am now a satisfied Palm user.
Finally, I never found a replacement application which is still hard to beleive.

Both my Mac and my PC are stuck in step 2 of iTunes Match sync.

I have spent a week on this. Since last itunes update, 11.2.2, I am only able to do an itunes match intermittently on both my Mac, and my PC. Prior, I have had no real issues since Apple started itunes Match.
I have blown out my library, started over, redownloaded everthing from itunes Match and had that sync. And then when I wanted to add additional music from that point, all subsequent matches get either stuck in Step 2 with some version of "matching 15654 of 15658 songs checked" on the latest. I first tried it with my Mac multiple times, and then tried it with my PC with the same results. I have tried sudo purge, booting in safe mode, logging in, out, in, out, etc., updating Genius, and changing operating systems. If I could go back one version of itunes, I would do it. I suspect it is an update issue.
I would appreciate any input. I have wasted far too much time on this function that I am paying.

This should fix it (hopefully you'll only have to do steps 1 and 2). FYI: 3231 is a general error code that doesn't indicate anything specific, but it could be caused by connection issues.
1. If you are using wireless networking, try connecting directly to your modem with a cable. Connections to the iTunes servers are a bit on the sensitive side and the occasional glitch can throw off matching if it has a lot of work to do. I have a "perfect" setup so I initially dismissed that as a solution (or part of one), but it does make a difference. Once it's working correctly you can switch back to a wireless connection and it should be fine from there.
2. In iTunes, hold down the Option key (or the Shift key if you're using Windows) while you click Store, Turn Off iTunes Match. Hold down the same key again and close iTunes. Since there may be some things cached, restart your computer. Open iTunes and Turn On iTunes Match again.
3. If Match does not complete, try a couple more times just to be sure. Note that Match completing doesn't mean everything is done - some changes trickle back over time, but it should report success.
4. If you still have problems, you can do a complete reset by contacting Apple's iTunes Store team and ask them to cancel your Match subscription and refund it so that you can purchase and start Match again from scratch. Wait until your iTunes account shows the credit before doing this (just to be sure the entire cancellation process on the Apple side has completed).

Battery on brand new iPod touch drains when synced to a mac and now it won't charge. If you're thinking of buying a new iPod touch, don't bother. The batteries don't work.

The battery on my son's brand new 64G iPod touch drained while it was synced yo the mac. Now it says 100% charged when it's connected to a charger, but drops to zero as soon as it's disconnected. It would appear that, either the battery is faulty or the battery indicator is faulty. iPod batteries are not supposed to drain while syncing. And rechargeable batteries are supposed to recharge after they have drained. Maybe I'm missing something simple here, does anyone know what it is?

I have synced my Aluminum BT keyboard with my iPod Touch iOS 4 with good result. However it no longer was in sync with my Mac Mini. I then could not sync with my Mac Mini. I had to shut off the iPod to get back to the Mac Mini. Most frustrating. Do I have to buy a second Al BT Keyboard in order to have a keyboard sync with my iPod? I am combining the functions of a PC desktop and PC Laptop onto a new iMac. I do have VMware's Fusion to run Windows 7 Home Premium, but I'd really like to sync both my iPad (first generation) and iPhone 4 to the Mac and move away from the Windows platform. In addition, with iCloud, can I determine which apps are synced to each device since some apps are designed for the iPhone and don't have corresponding iPad versions (with full screen size). There are apps for the iPad only that shouldn't be synced to the iPhone. I'd appreciate any advice from folks who sync two portable devices to one Mac system.

Just plug the two devices into the Mac, as if the other one didn't exist. iTunes will keep them separate and allow you control sync of apps and media content as you wish.
As to iCloud, for the iTunes in the Cloud feature, if you use the same iTunes Store account on both the iPad and the iPhone, you'll want to turn off the automatic download option in the Settings -> Store preference pane on your devices. Then you can sync, download and update as you wish on each device.
