Syncing Calendars

I'm trying to figure out my new iPhone's syncing capabilities and having a bit of a gong show. I've set up MobileMe and also sync my iPhone directly with my computer occasionally, and now all the events in my calendar that were created on the computer have been doubled on the iPhone, while the events created on the iPhone have not been transferred to the computer. Should I set up the calendars to sync only through MobileMe, only the computer, or what? A similar problem exists with my contacts- the ones I create on the iPhone are never copied to the address book on the computer.

Beginning with firmware update 3.0, it became possible to sync contacts and calendar events over the air with an Exchange account and/or with a MobileMe account and sync contacts and calendar events direct with a supported application on your computer via the iTunes sync process. Prior to firmware update 3.0, this wasn't possible - it was one or the other, not both at the same time.
This was added primarily for those with an Exchange account who are syncing business contacts and calendar events over the air with their iPhone and also want to sync personal contacts and calendar events direct with a supported application on their personal computer via the iTunes sync process.
This is not required with a MobileMe account and doing so only duplicates contacts and calendar events on your iPhone.
To remove the duplicates on your iPhone, deselect sync calendars under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by selecting Apply.
On your iPhone go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Select your MobileMe account.
Turn Calendars off for over the air syncing. This will erase all calendars and calendar events downloaded from your MobileMe online calendars with a warning message provided indicating this will occur. This will not erase the calendars and calendar events synced direct with a supported application on your computer via the iTunes sync process.
Select OK and wait a minute or two for the online calendars and calendar events to be deleted from your iPhone.
Follow this by turning Calendars back on for over the air syncing. This will provide a merge prompt, which you want to select. This will eliminate the duplicates.
What is your MobileMe account setting on your computer for syncing contacts and calendar events with the supported application or applications on your computer? Automatically or manually?

  • How to sync calendars and contacts between ios 3.1.3 and Mountain Lion?

I have a 1st generation iPod touch under iOS 3.1.3 and a MacBook Pro under Mountain Lion 10.8.3 with iTunes 11.0.1.
Since the upgrade to Mountain Lion syncing calendars and contacts between the iPod Touch and the Mac no longer works.
I don't want my personal information in Apple's or anybody else's Cloud and anyway iOS 3.1.3 can't use Apple's Cloud.
So I can no longer sync without a) replacing my iPod Touch which itself works perfectly well and does not need replacing and b) using Apple's Cloud which I do not wish to use for personal data.
This is a MAJOR AND DAMAGING step backwards by Apple, which they should correct IMMEDIATELY if they wish to keep their increasingly fed-up older customers.
    Time-wasting work-around:
As I never trust operating system upgrades to not destroy something that "just works", I have Snow Leopard still on another bootable partition on my machine, and Lion on a bootable partition on an external Thunderbolt disc.
In order to sync, I backup Calendars and Contacts under Mountain Lion under which I do all my normal work, switch to either Snow Leopard or Lion, update iCal and Address Book from the backup files saved under Mountain Lion, sync the iPod Touch, and switch back to Mountain Lion.
Lots of time wasted with 2 successive re-boots, but at least HERE IS A SOLUTION THAT WORKS - I have seen lots of posts protesting bitterly about this totally unacceptable backwards step - what on earth do Apple hope to gain from this? More sales of newer equipment to replace perfectly functioning older ones? Certainly not from many of us.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

How do I get my Macbook Pro and iphone 5 to sync calendars in 2014? It worked fine in 2013, but the 2014 dates are blank on my Macbook. The all icloud is checked on my phone and the enable icloud account and push are selected on the Macbook.
    Thanks

Do the events from your iPhone calendar appear on icloud.com?  If not, go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Calendar (in the Calendars section) and make sure you have selected an iCloud calendar as your default.  If you haven't, make this change, then add a new event on your iPhone calendar and see if appears on icloud.com and your Mac now.

  • I tried to sync my phone and received this message: "iTunes was unable to load data class info from sync services. Reconnect or try again later." Now it doesn't sync calendars because it says I need to download Outlook, which I already have

I have synced my phone to my computer several times. This time i received this message: "iTunes was unable to load data class infor from sync services. Reconnect or try again later." It says if I want to sync calendar I must install Outlook to my computer?? Why does iTunes not recongnize that I already have Outlook installed on my computer?

This worked for me...i did a restore on my computer to take it to a date prior to the last update i did on itunes and now it works just fine.  Everytime i do a backup it syncs my Outlook! When a request comes up saying there's a new version of itunes click here to download the latest one DON'T do it.
Here's how to do a restore on your computer:
    Create a restore point
A restore point is a representation of a stored state of your computer's system files. You can use a restore point to restore your computer's system files to an earlier point in time. Restore points are automatically created by System Restore weekly and when System Restore detects the beginning of a change to your computer, such as when you install a program or a driver.
System image backups stored on hard disks can also be used for System Restore, just like the restore points created by system protection. Even though system image backups contain both your system files and personal data, your data files won't be affected by System Restore. For more information about system images, see What is a system image? You can create a restore point manually at any time by following the steps below.
Go to the Windows website to watch the video. (1:08)
      Click to open System.
In the left pane, click System protection. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Click the System Protection tab, and then click Create.
In the System Protection dialog box, type a description, and then click Create.
For more information about System Restore, see What is System Restore?
    I HOPE THIS WORKS!

  • Unable to sync calendar from iphone to itunes etc- message coming up

    Hi,
Since I did an upgrade of itunes on my phone I keep getting this error when trying to sync with my phone and itunes
"iTunes could not sync calendars to the iphone "iphone" because the sync server failed to sync the iPhone."
Any advice on how I can sync would be helpful as it is difficult when things arent updated.
    Thanks

    I have the same problem.
After upgrading to latest iTunes I got an error saying "Itunes cannot run because some of it's required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes". I fixed this by going into programs, found iTunes, right click and click repair (as detailed here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2775935&tstart=0 )
So now I have same problem, iTunes can not sync calendars to the iphone.
I only ever have problems like this after an upgrade. Very frustrating and time-wasting Apple!

  • How can I sync calendars between my mac, iphone and android phone

I use an iPhone as my primary phone, but do travel alot and need to have a secondary phone with a local SIM card when I travel. For this reason, I am considering buying an android phone. One of my major concerns though, is how would I be able to (if possible at all) sync calendars and contacts between all the devices. Today with iCloud I can get the iCloud syncing between my iMac, Macbook Pro, iPad and iPhone. When I introduce an android device, I am going to have to bring in Google calendars as well, so how do I get my iCal calendars to automatically sync to google calendars without having to creat duplicate calendars or without having to basically migrate to using only google calendars? Same goes for the contacts?

On your Mac and iPad, turn off iMessage.

  • I have DELETED calendars showing in my iTunes Sync Calendars list!?

    iMac late 2009
    OSx 10.10.2
    iPhone 6 Plus
    iOS 8.1.3
    Completely Up to Date!
no clouds involved, no calendar subscriptions.
I have had a major problem with my Calendar's calendars, which I have completely repaired using Calendar.  During that process, I had to rename a number of calendars in order to keep track of what I was doing - an intermediate diagnostic step.  Once I'd gotten everything right, exported all the "good" calendars to .ics files, and deleted ALL CALENDARS - both the good ones and the intermediately named ones -  then imported the .ics files back into Calendar... leaving me with ONE FULL SET OF CLEAN CALENDAR data.  When I open Calendars on my mac, I see 33 calendars listed on the left side of the window.
My problem now that I'm ready to put my calendars back onto my phone, is that my Calendars Library (library/calendars) still has many of the intermediate calendar files (that have NOT been DELETED) and in iTunes, the list of Calendars includes all these same intermediate calendars, as well as the new calendars that I want to transfer to my phone.  I would prefer to "select" "ALL CALENDARS" but I can't do that until I can remove the calendars that were supposed to be deleted/removed in the first place.  In other words, I have 33 good, clean Calendars, but there are 71 Calendars in my Calendar Library.
What are the correct steps to remove the Library/Calendars folder so that the iTunes "Sync Calendars" list only shows the 33 good calendars, and not the 38 unwanted (deleted) calendars.
What do I have to do to finish the job?

I have/had the same problem. I tried deleting all the "Library" "Calendar" preference files I could find and like others nothing worked. Like others they would just recreate themselves.
BUT, I did find the solution. Not sure which part worked, but this is what I did.
I quit all the apps, Calendar, and iTunes.
I went into the folder pointed to by job-seeker above:
                   <user>
                   Library
                   Containers
                   com.aple.CalendarAgent
                   Data
                   Library
                   Calendars
Manually went through each cached calendar folder and looked in the info.plist for the calendar title listed below "<key>Title</key>" and deleted the parent folders of no longer existent calendars.
Then find an app called "Reminders", open it and you will find all the deleted calendars that you have deleted over the years, they seem to get cached in it, delete them and quit.
Relaunch iTunes and find the deleted calendars in question are gone.
I think you could skip all the above and just try deleting the old calendars from this Reminder app and it may work, but the above is what I did when it worked for me and I do not want to recreate the problem just to verify my theory. ;-)
    Hope this helps,
    Michael

  • HT5621 I changed my apple ID on my laptop and I can no longer sync calendars from my iphone4s to the Macbook.  I went to settings and when I open iCloud account settings, my old apple id is grayed out and I can't tap it to change it.  Any suggestions??

I changed my apple ID on my Macbook  but I am unable to sync calendar from my iphone 4s.  When I go to settings in the phone, my old ID is there, but it is greyed out and I can't change it. I was able to change the app store ID, but the one in iCloud settings seems stuck.  Any suggestions??

You need to use the old ID and password to delete the iCloud account. After you delete the old account, you can sign in with the new ID in iCloud.
    Have you seen this.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5796
    iCloud
iOS 6 and later: Go to Settings > iCloud.
If you signed out before changing your Apple ID, enter your current Apple ID to sign in. The data from your iCloud account will download to your device.
If you're still signed in with your previous Apple ID:
Scroll down and tap Delete Account. Depending on what iCloud options are turned on, you'll be asked to confirm that you want to delete data from your device. To confirm, tap Delete. (If you're using iOS 7 and have Find My iPhone turned on, you'll be asked to enter the password for your previous Apple ID. Enter the password, then tap Turn Off.) The data will be deleted from your device, but not from iCloud.
Enter your current Apple ID to sign in. The data from your iCloud account will download again to your device.

  • ITunes says it can't sync calendar b/c calendar on iPod is in use.

Hi all.  I'm stumped.  I just got a new iPod Touch.  I was able to sync my contacts (and everything else) through iTunes on my MacBook, but I got an error message about the calendar: "iTunes could not sync calendars to the iPod 'iPod Touch' because the calendars are in use by the iPod.  Close the calendars setting on the iPod and try again."  The problem is, I don't have the calendar open on the iPod, and don't see where I could close it in any case.
Then, I thought I would just enter things manually onto the calendar, but I can't do that either, as there's no + sign and no way to enter/add anything.
I've googled around about this and seen people saying to turn on the calendar in iCloud.  But when I do that, it just crashes.  It says it's starting to merge and then crashes, sometimes instantly, sometimes after a minute. I can't use iCloud for now anyway because my MacBook is running Snow Leopard, and I'm not planning to upgrade to Lion until I get a new computer.
I've been syncing my first generation iPod Touch to my MacBook for almost 4 years now with no difficulties.  And, as I said, the contacts and everything else worked fine.  It's just the calendar, which I really need to be able to update.  I tried to sync it with my Outlook calendar at work, just to see what would happen, and I got the same error message.
Ideally, I'd like a fix that will allow me to sync it with either iCal on my MacBook or with my Outlook calendar on my work computer.  In any case, I need to be able to update it manually but don't know how to get the + sign back.
    Any assistance would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Sue

You will need to Restore the device...

  • HT204053 cannot sync calendar on my new ipad mini. my mac and macbook use a .me account for iCloud. How can I change this?

I cannot sync calendar on new ipad mini. My mac desktop and mac book have an old .me icloud account name. Cannot change that so how do I sync?

If you had a passcode set on your iPad your data should be safe.  The thief would have to force it into recovery mode and restore it in order to use it, which would completely erase it.
This shouldn't keep your daughter's device from accessing the iCloud account however.  If you can no longer sign into the account on iCloud.com from your computer, contact Apple support for assistance.

  • IOS 4.2.1 sync calendar to new MacMini

I have a second gen iPod Touch that I just upgraded to iOS 4.2.1.  I'm connected to a new Mac Mini with OS 10.9.1.
Until now, I was syncing the calender on the iPod with iOS 3.1.3 and a Mac Mini running 10.4.
Now I cannot get the calendar to sync.  I do not see anything about syncing calendars in iTunes on the new MacMini.
Did the calendar sync move somewhere elese?
I can't find an online manual for iOS 4.2.1.  Is there one?

    See:
iTunes 11 for Mac: Sync contacts, calendars, and other info with iPod, iPhone, or iPad
    It includes:
If you use OS X Mavericks v.10.9 or later, your contacts, calendars, and other info are updated on your computers and iOS devices via iCloud. For more information, see iCloud Help at icloud.com.
However yoo need iOS 5 for iCloud and a 2G only go to iOS 4.2.1

Since I upgraded to mountain lion my mac book no longer syncs calendars to my iPhone or iPad.  I have tried the procedure of deleting the calendar cache in the Library folder to no avail.  Any other suggestions?

Sorry, but I don't think I can be of much help on this, as I've switched completely to iCloud for my calendar syncing, and I haven't seen an answer to your problem. Maybe somebody else will come along with an idea.

  • Can no longer sync calendar events with Yahoo! Calendar

I have an ipod Touch 4G.  It used to be able to sync calendar items back to Yahoo! Calendar so I didn't have to enter them manually once I had entered them on the Touch.
Now I learn that in iO5 I can no longer do this with Yahoo! Calendar.  I thought that Apple prided itself on being user friendly.  I am sorry, but I have to consider this change "user hostile."
One reason I bought the iPod Touch was that it would sync to my Yahoo! Calendar.  Come on, guys!  Not fair!

I have the same problem with my ipod nano. I downloaded tunes from my old pc. ITunes does not recognise it from my new pc and I cannot sync.
