Syncing Choices

Hi,
Maybe I'm missing something here but it appears that you cannot 'add' folders or photos to the Touch, it's all or nothing!
For example: I'd already put a photo folder on the Touch and wanted to add some more. It placed to the new folder on the Touch ok but overwrote the previous one! As there's no seperate entry under 'Library' in iTunes you can't select a an individual photo item to sync as you can with music, videos etc.
So, does that mean it's all or nothing with photos?
Mike.

If you use those, you have to live with what is there.
You can create smart playlist to do exactly what you want.

  • There is no sync choice in Tools/Options!?

So how do I get a sync choice?

In order to use Firefox Sync, you have to be running the most recent version of Firefox. Please go to [http://www.getfirefox.com www.getfirefox.com], and download the most recent version of Firefox (11 at the time of writing). Once you have the newest Firefox installed, go into the Firefox button, then inside there you have a "set up Sync" option.

  • I am trying to setup iCal syncing with Mobile Me on Mac Pro and Mac Pro Notebook.  I have accounts added in for MobileMe and Gmail.  Problem is that iCal does not appear as one of the Sync choices in the MobileMe sync window on either computer?

I am trying to sync iCal with all my computers and devices via MobileMe.  I cannot sync iCal on my Mac Pro nor Mackbook Pro.  I believe accounts to be setup properly BUT on both computers there is NO choice to select iCal among the choices in "Sync Menu" on the MobileMe window in System Preferences.  Help?

    Greetings,
If you delete individual messages they will be deleted from other accounts.
If you setup the accounts as IMAP (which is the default for MobileMe accounts) you can remove the accounts and the other users will still have the email.
Alternatively if you don't want to see the account in the other user go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > MobileMe account > Advanced > remove the check mark for "enable account".  This leaves the account and just turns it off so you don't see it  and it doesn't send / receive messages.
Finally,  you should be backing up your data for safekeeping so even if you did delete the account and the messages magically vanished you could restore them: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553
    Hope that helps.

  • What does the sync choice "erase data before syncing" do?

I want to synce a Sony Ericsson cell with my ical via isync. One of the choices before syncing asks whether I want to erase info on the cell before syncing or merge the info on the cell with the mac. I only want to sync the calendar data and not the contacts. I unchecked sync contacts. My question is will choosing erase info before syncing also erase the contact info in the cell phone or will it only erase the calendar data? Thanks for the help!

  • ITunes set to Sync no music, yet there's music on my iPhone

I've been battling this for awhile and got desperate, and yet - iTunes sync does not seem to work as I think it should.
In iTunes I select my phone, and set the Music options to:
    "Sync Music" - checked
"Selected playlists, artists, etc." - checked
"Playlists" "Artists" "Albums" and "Genres" all have NO check marks.
    On the iPhone 4S:
Settings / Music / Show All Music - NOT Green (message is "Only music that has been downloaded to this device will be shown.").
    Sync
I still have hundreds of songs on my phone.
If nothing is checked in iTunes to Sync, and I click Sync, why doesn't it Sync - as in, why doesn't it delete all the music off my phone?
Now, the real problem was that there was one Playlist that wouldn't Sync, or download to my phone.
During the Sync process it kept coming back saying I needed 1.4Gb of additional free space.  (That didn't make sense since all the songs in that Playlist were already on the phone, but no matter).
So I deleted a bunch of Apps. and that didn't free up enough space, or so the message said.
So I tried, via the steps above, to delete all my music, and yet it's still there.
And no, my Playlist, if checked, does not Sync.
One other trivia tidbit - if I check just one song in iTunes, the color bars at the bottom show almost zero blue, for "Audio."  Then if I uncheck it, it shows over 7Gb of Audio.  That seems backwards and nonsensical.
So, in order, my "needs" (request for help):
    * How do I get a playlist to show up on my iPhone?
    * Why does Syncing. with the options above, which should delete all music from the phone, leave all music on the phone?
    * Why would checking one song in iTunes show that a little space would be used by Audio, but unchecking it (leaving all boxes unchecked) show over 7Gb of Audio would be there?  (See question above - there's nothing checked, so it should be zero, right?)

Music can end up on your iPhone in different ways, not just by auto-syncing.  For example ...
iTunes purchases made directly from the device.  These can remain on the iPhone even after you sync to your library (which should copy them from your iPhone to your library).  Purchases made from the iPhone can remain in either of two ways I've seen -- a "Purchased" playlist that automatically gets created and the songs remain on the device until you delete the playlist and its contents (either right from the iPhone, or via iTunes).  But sometimes there's no such playlist and these purchases remain in a "Manually added" state.  If you look in iTunes where you set your Music sync settings, scroll to the bottom of that window and look for a "Manually added items" category.  It will only be there if such items exist on your device.  If you see this, select all items in this category and delete them, then initiate a sync.
As a variation of the above, if you ever did have "Show all music" turned ON and tapped a cloud, those items will be downloaded and can act like new purchases as described above, where they may end up in the "Manually added items" category.  If you don't see them in this category, just for kicks turn "Show all music" ON and download one song from the cloud -- you may then see that song, and perhaps several others in your "Manually added items" category.
Another possibility -- even if you auto-sync you can still manually drag and drop music from your library to your iPhone.  Such items end up in the "Manually added items" category described above.  If you see these, select and delete them, then initiate a sync.
As a final suggestion, you may have to do what I did -- temporarily change your iPhone to "Manually manage music and video", then Apply the change.  Then navigate to your iPhone's contents while connected to iTunes.  If you see music on the iPhone, select all songs and then delete.  But, you're not done -- to really make this stick, perform a backup to iTunes while your iPhone is still in Manual mode and empty of all songs.  Then Restore the iPhone, load your backup back in place, which should then put your apps back on -- and no music.  Now change back to auto sync, select your Music sync choices, then start auto-syncing.  Hopefully that nukes the rogue songs for you ... it did for me when I first installed iOS 7, and then again after doing an iOS update.

  • ITunes sync with 'Windows Live Mail' / (not local Windows Contacts))?

Are there any plans to add an option in the 'Info' panel's sync contacts choice dropdown for 'Windows Live Mail'?
There's currently "windows contacts", "outlook", and "Yahoo! address book" for contacts sync choices.
Problem is, in Vista, there's no more outlook express.
I used to sync iPhone to windows address book in iTunes, then in OE, you could add your hotmail account, then open 'address book', click tools/synchronize, and it would sync your windows address book with your online hotmail one.
Now in Vista, no more OE, there is Windows Mail(uses local 'windows contacts') and you can download 'Windows Live Mail' but it uses hotmail's online address book exclusively..
..and iTunes doesn't give the choice of 'Windows Live Mail' for contact sync.
so im not able to sync contacts between iPhone and Hotmail anymore.
    Ideas?

yup what? I asked a question...

  • Possible to sync iPhone to work and home computer

I am new to the iPhone thanks to Verizon. I have an iTunes account on my home laptop that I have been using forever- it has all my movies, shows music etc.
I am wondering if there is a way to load some of this content on my iPhone, AND still sync the phone with my work computer. (My work computer is completely separate). Put simply, is there a way for me to have some "fun" content from my home computer and some "necessary" content (Outlook, contacts, bookmarks etc) from my work computer on one iPhone. If possible, what steps should I take to execute this. Do I download iTunes on my work computer with a different user name? Can two iTunes accounts be associated with the same user name? Thanks for your thoughts, guys. Obviously I am a novice!

With the iPhone, you can sync all iTunes content with only one computer. Trying to sync iTunes content with a second computer will result in iTunes erasing the content from the first computer. However, non-itunes content such as contacts, calendars, mail settings, notes, etc. (anything in the Info pane) can be synced from another computer.
Do not allow your iPhone to sync until you have set up your selections. Prevent automatic syncing one time, without changing settings: Open iTunes. Then, as you connect iPhone to your computer, press and hold Command-Option (on a Mac) or Shift-Control (on a PC) until you see iPhone appear in the sidebar.
At home, make your selections from the Music, Videos, Applications, etc. panes, but leave the selections in the Info pane that you want synced from your work computer unchecked. When you are finished, click the "Apply" button at the bottom right of the iTunes window.
At work, Prevent automatic syncing one time, without changing settings: Open iTunes. Then, as you connect iPhone to your computer, press and hold Command-Option (on a Mac) or Shift-Control (on a PC) until you see iPhone appear in the sidebar. Make sure all options in all the panes you used at home are deselected (not checked), particularly the "Sync Music" at the top of the music pane.
Go to the Info pane and select your sync choices that you left unchecked at home(such as contacts, calendars), then click the "Apply" button at the bottom right of the iTunes window.

  • MobileMe Sync Issues after Snow Leopard Upgrade

After installing Snow Leopard, MobileMe has been acting up specifically with syncing.
I have tried to reset it via the instructions found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1497
I am hoping it will be corrected and stays corrected. If you have the same issues, please let us know.
    Thank you.

This solution has helped some with MobileMe syncing.
    1. Close all programs
    2. Logout from MobileMe in System Preferences > MobileMe.
    3. Run Disk Utility/Repair permissions from your startup drive.
    4. Restart computer.
    5. Login to MobileMe, and reset your sync choices.
    6. Try syncing.
The first sync may take a good while, and you may be ask if you want to merge, overwrite. etc.

  • Reset Sync History

I would like to change choice for syncing calender to "merge data." Current sync replace phone entries with computers.
Resetting sync history does not cause ITunes to ask for sync choices of contacts and calendar as Apple documentation suggest.
Any suggestions would be apprecited. Searched forums but could not find answer. Thanks.

    Roamingnome,
I got the "choices" concept based upon information as follows from Apple documentation.
    "Reset Sync History
If you find that some of your data syncs to your device but you see an unexpected number of changes or modifications, you may need to reset your sync history. This causes iTunes to prompt to Merge or Replace information on the device when you next attempt to sync your information. To reset your Sync History:
    Open iTunes.
From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
    Click the Devices tab.
Click the Reset Sync History button."
If it merges by default, then perhaps I have a different problem. Still seeking advice. Thanks.

  • Video Sync Issues

I have two questions about videos and iTunes.  Apologies if these things have been covered here.  I searched for relevant posts but didn't find any.
    1) I downloaded a series of iTunes U videos, then synced them to my iPod touch.  I watched a number of them on the iPod touch but didn't delete any of them.  When I synced the iPod touch via USB, the watched videos disappeared from it, although I suspect that they're still on iTunes.  (I'm away from my Mac at the moment, so I can't verify this.)  What happened? Is this normal behavior?  Is there any way to control it?
    2) I transferred some TV shows from my TiVo box to my Mac, then used Toast to convert them for the iPad.  I noticed that when the conversion for each show was complete and imported into iTunes, iTunes would start to play that show.  I then synced with the iPad.  However, then I went to watch the shows on the iPad, not all the shows were there.  I suspect that any show that played to completion in iTunes after its conversion wasn't copied to the iPad.  Could this be the case?  If so, is there any way to prevent either the lack of sync or the playing on import?  I plan to pursue the playing issue with the Toast people, but perhaps someone here can help.
    Thanks for any enlightenment.
    iMac  OS X 10.6.8  iTunes 10.5.1  iOS 5.0.1

The default sync selection for TV shows is to sync all unwatched episodes of all shows and for iTunes U is to sync all unplayed of all collections.  So, unless you selected another option it's normal for those episodes you watched to be erased on a sync.
The other sync choices for TV shows include all episodes of all (or selected) shows, or the newest 1, 3, 5, or 10 episodes, or the newest (or oldest) 1, 3, 5, or 10 episodes.  The iTunes U choices are somewhat similar.  I think you'll find adequate choices within the drop down sync menus for what you prefer.

  • One Computer, two iphones and syncing to two yahoo address books - problem

    Hi all,
Before upgrading to itunes 7.7.1.11 (at least I think the upgrade caused the problem) I could associate my wife's iphone to her yahoo contact list and my iphone to my yahoo contact list. So when her phone was connected it would sync to her yahoo account and when mine was connected it would sync to my yahoo account.
Now what happens is that the last yahoo account 'configured' is what gets synced, regardless of phone. For example, I just set up my yahoo contacts in itunes and sync - great, evertyhing works.
Now, when I connect my wife's phone it will sync with my contact list - unless I go into the info tab and click the 'configure' button and change the yahoo account to hers (it automatically shows my account now. It used to show hers).
If I do this, then her phone syncs to her contacts fine. However, now when I connect my phone, the yahoo address book is set to configure with my wife's account, until I change it to mine - you get the idea of the pattern here.
Changing it isn't a big deal, but forgetting just once, really buggers things up.
This never used to happen - anyone experiencing this? Any thoughts to remedy?
    Thanks.

You're not alone. We want one phone to get Outlook contacts and the other to get Yahoo. Simple, right? Each phone gets its own playlists, so why not its own contacts? Because Apple doesn't work that way. "One sync provider per iTunes account" is how the popup box puts it. But only when it comes to contacts. Thank goodness they don't carry this nonsense over to music and video syncing.
Amazing that Apple didn't anticipate this problem. Mom and Dad and Junior want to be on the same account so the family's iTunes purchases are shared, but of course they don't want the same contacts on their phones.
I had posted the problem here:

  • Sync iphone to two computers without delete data

    Hi everybody!
I want to sync an iphone4 to two computers, both of them running mac os X 10.5.8 and iTunes 10.
The first one, called home computer, holds apps, music, videos, podcasts, photos. I don't want to sync contacts and calendars on it.
The second one, called office computer, contains just that: contacts and calendars, and nothing else. Actually, it contains a few other items, but I don't care to sync them.
First, I disabled automatic syncing in both computers.
Then I synced the iphone to the home computer, checking all the requested panes: apps, music, videos, podcasts, photos. I unchecked just the info pane. Everything worked fine.
Troubles are coming syncing to the second computer, office computer.
I check the info pane (everything ok, so far). But when I uncheck the app pane, it appears a box asking (sorry not to be precise, I have to translate from italian) "Do you really want to unsync all apps? All apps contained in iphone will be deleted". If I choose not to sync, the multicolor bar below starts worringly to decrease, and the green part (apps) disappears.
I wanted not to sync the app in the iphone, not to delete them!
The same happens if I uncheck all other interested panes, i.e. music, videos, podcasts, photos.
The final result is a sad, short bar showing just a very small yellow strip, "other" meaning contacts and calendar.
    What I have to do?

With the iPhone, you can sync all iTunes content with only one computer.  Trying to sync iTunes content with a second computer will result in iTunes erasing the content from the first computer.  However, non-itunes content such as contacts, calendars, mail settings, notes, etc. (anything in the Info pane) can be synced from another computer.
